Have been trying to re-start my supply for 8 weeks after my dd refused to feed from 4 weeks (12 weeks now) have tried to get my supply going again...have tried everything..latching her on 6+ times a day...nothing

tried expressing 6+ times a day...nothing

tried fenugreek on top of this...nothing

last ditch attempt is to beg my doc for domperidone on tuesday (they wouldnt give it to me last time at 8 weeks)

but im thinking its time to give up!

oh your lovely jet! this is really getting to me, why do i have to be the one person that noone will prescribe it to! You would think they would try their hardest to help somone who wants to get it going again!

they are so expensive though jet!

I also tried to get Domperidone from the GP, she practically laughed at me and said no I couldn't BF my two boys as I can't physically produce enough milk to sustain (I'm not just saying that, I actually have a medical condition!) I asked for it right at the beginning and I still wasn't allowed it Your only hope is to buy it. I wish I'd known I could have bought some - I would have paid the earth to breast feed.

Let us know what the LLL say

It really is heart breaking

gorge2003 · 08/12/2009 17:48

winter i am producing about a drop of milk, hand expressing/pump expressing this is all i get out and dd will latch for a few mins and then get annoyed cos she isnt getting any!

Honestly I don't mind gorge - it's got to be worth a try along with the pump. My email address is lindsaywarner@tinyworld dot co dot uk - let me have your address for posting. No idea what dose you need to relactate but am sure someone will come along with the numbers soon enough.

Have you visited Kellymom yet? I found this

www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/relactation.html

It's focused to adoptive moms but really the principal is the same.

gorge2003 · 08/12/2009 18:12

thanks for that!

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 08/12/2009 21:42

Print out the Kellymom page and take it to your GP. Domperidone is NOT an expensive medication to prescribe. Some doctors will be reluctant to prescribe it off licence for relactation though.

Here is a link for the "Relactation Boot Camp" .

Are you taking Fenugreek? Take enough to make yourself smell of maple syrup, it does work.

God, you sound so motivated and have really not had much back-up from medical professionals !

Keep reminding yourself that every drop counts, also that there is more to BFing than just the milk.

Here are reasons to be proud, however far you get with your quest.

Very very best of luck .

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 08/12/2009 21:44

Sorry, only just saw you have tried Fenugreek . Up the dose?

gorge2003 · 08/12/2009 21:52

i was taking 8 tablets of fenugreek a day and no maple syrup smell and the size of those things no improvemnt though...about 5/6 weeks ago it seemed to be getting there and then just disappeared this is when i asked for domperidone and was refused, told today its not going to come back and basically to give up!!!

Well, if adoptive mothers can induce lactation at least to some extent, then why not you??

Equally I think it is important as well that you do not make yourself ill with expectations that you may not be able to achieve, IYKWIM.

If your baby gets FF and BF, that's ok, and if they get only FF it will be fine too . We are lucky that living in the West we can make up FF safely and without danger to our children. Formula is not poison and you are in no way to blame if BF as much as you would have liked does not work out for you on this occasion.
It took me to my 3rd child to get the hang of it by which I mean I breastfed each subsequent child more than the previous one.

It is just shitty that you have been so poorly supported. An electric double pump, ideally hospital-grade, would be good too.

You should get a goldstar for effort, woman!!
Go and give your baba a cuddle, that's the part of breastfeeding you can do with or without milk !

gorge2003 · 08/12/2009 22:43

thanks! I have tried everything, domperidone is my last ditch attempt really! I feel really shitty that it stopped when it did and now look what's happened I have struggled and struggled with no support from doc and as for hv I haven't seen her since I said I wanted to restart, she never phoned me back and it's like contacting the queen! She is never around!

PrivetDancer · 08/12/2009 22:58

spiderlight · 08/12/2009 23:05

My herbalist recommended fennel tea to boost my supply and it really seemed to work. So sorry you've had such a battle - blooming doctors

gorge2003 · 09/12/2009 05:46

Thankyou everyone! The gerenerosity if everyone is quite overwhelming! It's lovely, my email address is gorge2003@ hotmail dot com. It is rather annoying that I have had such a bad time of it with my doctors and hv's I really thought they would do everything to help but obv not, I have no local LLL's near to me, closest one is About 90 mins by train! I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow for some advice I think! xx

I heard that fennel tea, raspberry leaf, nettle and camomile were good for supply so in a paranoid moment when I thought my supply was low, I gave it a go. I would add boiling water to a mixture of the tea - mostly fennel and raspberry leaf, sometimes fennel and chamomile. Then I let it stew till it was really strong, and then I added it to cold water to make it up to a pint of brownish liquid and downed it. I did this three times a day and within about 36 hours I had a ridiculous amount of milk! It would shoot out at high speed and DS couldn't finish it all - and he is a hungry little thing! My boobs just kept filling up! I actually had to stop as I think DS was getting too much foremilk - he was never getting to the hindmilk. It was amazing. I stopped and it all went back to normal. I tried it again to make sure it was the herbs and it happened again (very interested in power of herbs). I held a bottle to my boob and filled 40ml in about 30 seconds. I then read that if you don't have problems with supply, you shouldn't drink these things cos they do cause oversupply and the problems that go with it.

Good Luck Gorge! Can't believe Doc and HV aren't helping!

gorge2003 · 11/12/2009 19:16
