My DD is 8 1/2 months old and we both love breastfeeding. I plan to carry on for the foreseeable future and wondered how other mums got on with the "Are you STILL breastfeeding??" comments.

OP posts:

dd1 mixed feeding until 3 months when she refused breast. I was forced into mixed feeding by a midwife who dispite her experience didn't seem to think babies lost birthweight!

dd2 3 years and a bit, I kept going dispite all the people who told me to stop. Mum, doctor ect wanted me to stop at 3 months but by then I had done enough research to know why they were wrong. Lots of feeding done in private though. I do feel that she was presuised into giving up though.

i stopped with my ds at 9.5 months (he was on short night feeds only for a couple of months before that0
Bummer - wish I'd carried on a bit more now, seeing all the posts below.
I wanted to drink again though!!!

dinny · 25/05/2005 22:41

you can drink when bfing though, Teeavee - I just drink whatever I want and am feeding ds.

sansouci · 25/05/2005 22:48

not sure about that, dinny, though my mum had a beer at night when bfing me to put me to sleep! In her defence, she was told that beer increases milk production.

I would say be very careful of anything narcotic like alcohol or meds when bfing.

zaphod · 25/05/2005 22:48

ds1 - 15months
dd - 13 months
ds2 - 27 months
ds3 - 15 months
ds4- 22 months and he shows no sign of wanting to stop......

SleepyJess · 25/05/2005 22:50

Well you can drink.. but it's not really ok.... the baby gets some of the alchhol.. which is obviously not ideal..

dinny · 25/05/2005 22:52

well poor ds must be well and truly sozzled as he's 9 months and have drunk wine whenever I fancy it.
