Just came across this

and cant believe it was actually a real advert for Macdonalds in Austria!

OP posts:
belgo · 16/07/2008 08:57

Just read the first few posts, I imagine the thread kicked off at some point.

Expat - I also giggled when I saw it - and I'm also pregnant, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

ExterminAitch · 16/07/2008 09:02

afaia bree's wee boy is about five.

tiktok · 16/07/2008 09:07

Bree has not just given birth - she is referring to events that happened some time ago.

SuperSillyus · 16/07/2008 09:12

Okay, her post is as if it only just happened and she sounds still really raw about it.
I must admit I was very confused by all the reactions on this thread.

ilovemydog · 16/07/2008 09:14

I don't get it.

tiktok · 16/07/2008 09:14

I think she is really raw

But she's getting mad at the wrong people and seeing stuff which just isn't there.

ExterminAitch · 16/07/2008 09:16

i think she is raw, clearly, which is a real shame. but this thread, and what poor pecka actually posted, had bugger all to do with formula feeding and everything to do with shock tactics in advertising.

Ledodgy · 16/07/2008 09:18

Morals aside I think the advert itself is shit.

ExterminAitch · 16/07/2008 09:19

and actually, feeling raw isn't a great excuse for being nasty to your actual friends. not me, i couldn't care less, but it looks to me like some people were pretty directly hurt by her words last night.

Slubberdegullion · 16/07/2008 09:19

Oh. I clicked on the picture and thought "now I know what that dermatological condition is...oh oh it's on the tip of my tongue...ghaaaa small white cysts...poor lady she's got a nasty case of it...durrr"

hmm

ExterminAitch · 16/07/2008 09:21

it is weird, isn't it, ledodgy? what is the message, that mcd's is nutritious as bm? can't be. i suspect it is driving that it's as comforting, iykwim? although someone made a good point last night that it appeals to the teen boy market.

SuperSillyus · 16/07/2008 09:23

lol slubber

I just saw the sesame seeds which my ds2 is allergic to so I thought 'argh poison!'

I hate mcd- it wouldn't fill a flea, I'd rather have a pot noodle

Ledodgy · 16/07/2008 09:24

I don't reckon it appeals to the teen boy market, a woman in a bask with real breasts would appeal to them not a baby breast feeding a burger bun.

ExterminAitch · 16/07/2008 09:26

who, then? just lazy arses who eat too much of it anyway? or mums? i wonder?

and i think the gist with macdonalds is that if you supersize the meals become more filling. [burger king gal icon]

VictorianSqualor · 16/07/2008 09:28

Maybe there wasn't a message behind it.
Maybe someone else made it as an anti-early-weaning sign and they pinched it.
OR Aitch had it on her baby led weaning blog to show how they can eat without purees and they pinched it.
MaccyD's (or mankyD's as DS1 calls it)
WE ARE ON TO YOU!!!
Aitch has copyright, you owe her tons

sabire · 16/07/2008 09:30

There are lots of people around with raw feelings about the way they fed their babies.

But I've seen from other boards how bullying has pretty much put a stop to ANY informed debate about what goes into formula, how it's sold, and the health issues connected with infant feeding. Mumsnet is unique in having a combined bf and ff board where these things are discussed openly. I think it's only to be expected that there will be regular protests from people who'd prefer for personal reasons not to have to read about it or take part in the discussion.

BandofMothers · 16/07/2008 09:30

FGS people, the ad isn't saying anything about ff, or bf. Someone had the idea to link the burger with a cute baby to make people want it more, (well expat wanted one!!!)
Then some pea brain probably said "why don't we make the boob into a bun,!" and everyone round the table said, OMG what a great idea, that's so witty and funny and clever, HUR HUR HUR!!!!

Then they did it. No one is sayingf MacD's is as good as breast milk, and no one is suggesting weaning your baby on burgers, let's try to keep it in proportion here.

I thiknk the fact that there has been so much discussion about it proves it is getting the attention it was made for, tho maybe in a more negative light than they thought it is still promoting MacD's and at the end of the day whatever they think of the actual advert, many people will still think, "Hmm, I could just go for a MacDonalds," and off they trot.

{hmm]

Ledodgy · 16/07/2008 09:31

I have no idea, it's just rubbish. They are obviously going for shock value and maybe the comfort connection which is very dodgy or maybe they're trying to say they are pro breast feeding which would be strange as i've just come across articles which state they they were voted the worst restaurant to bf in.

Ledodgy · 16/07/2008 09:32

here

NumberJill · 16/07/2008 09:32

Did you see my joke, BOM? Didja? DIDJA?

BandofMothers · 16/07/2008 09:33

And I had to stop bfing dd1 at 4 mths, and went on to ff, then fed dd2 myself til 14 mths, so I have been on both sides of the feeding fence.

I think people read far too much into things like this, and that last bit should have been this

iMum · 16/07/2008 09:34

Thing is tho, why shouldnt I be smug that I bf? Its a fabulous thing-just because some cant or have problems doesnt mean i cant be happy or proud of myself. Heck what about all the ladies who cant get pregnant that have to put up with endless threads moaning about posters children/terrible births/sleepless nights it goes on.

Im sure Bree has got something to feel very proud of herslef about, her new baby! bitching about other peoples being able to (and feeling smug about) bf is pointless.

Lifes too short-sometimes I get chocked up that people moan about their birth expiriences not being how they had planned etc etc, and think but you have a baby at the end of it-move on! I had to go through a horrid bith exp to give birth to my dead dd. Heck, people moan about all sorts, put it into perspective.

And yes picture is gross, but baby is ver cute!

lou031205 · 16/07/2008 09:34

Bree, sincerely, do you think that you need to get some counseling with regards to the breastfeeding? You seem to be very upset about your health stopping you from feeding, and with a new pregnancy that is bound to be accentuated.

I may be a bit blurry eyed, because my first thought was what an incredibly ugly tit that was - until I realised that it was a burger bun

Ledodgy · 16/07/2008 09:34

Hey I formula feed too. I lasted 5 weeks bf this time, 3 with ds1 and 4 months with dd. That doesn't have anything to do with it. The advert is just crap.

SuperSillyus · 16/07/2008 09:35

Ah sure advertisers are always trying to incorporate boobs into an advert one way or another.
