I know I want to BF but why the hell is it so hard? We were doing really well up until today. My left nip is sore again, but latch is fine so fuck knows why it hurts. Daniel has been attatched to me all fecking day, bar 2hrs where we co-slept because thats the only way he will sleep.

im pissed off, tired and hormotional

(Duh! Yes, of course he is three weeks. You've just told us so!)

What pump have you got and how are you finding it?

DanJARMouse · 20/12/2007 20:15

3 weeks today.

DH has been giving the bottle at different times of day, last night was 11pm, today 4pm, havent got any EBM left and wont be able to express tonight, so probably wont get an EBM feed tomorrow... which is no bad thing!

He is a guzzler though, and we have had some projectile vomit incidents - all over my brand spanking new pj's i only bought today!! GRRR

Assuming the vomit thing is ok, has only been once every few days?!

DanJARMouse · 20/12/2007 20:17

got the avent isis - love it! Easy to use, and is fairly quick tbh, only need to pump for 5-10mins for 3oz so thats ok.

MerryPIFFLEmas · 20/12/2007 20:17

Bloody hell DJARM, you must have some supply!
Go girl!

moondog · 20/12/2007 20:18

Ooh yes,very good indeed.

DanJARMouse · 20/12/2007 20:28

lol so thats good then?! See, i have no idea how much you are supposed to get out in what times!

Nipples are fine, have managed without the lanisoh! Are sometimes a little tender after using the pump, but otherwise all is good.

Question about latching - do babies "learn" how to do it? Ive just noticed this week that Im not really having to "assist" with getting him on, he just kinda goes on by himself and does what he needs to do!

OP posts:
moondog · 20/12/2007 20:29

Oh yes,they certainly do!
Wait until they can reach in and lob out a boob on their own-that's kind of weird!

MerryPIFFLEmas · 20/12/2007 20:31

DJARM
I have always let ds2 get himself on, oh bliss at night, I can sleep through
3oz in that time is ace
I have fabby supply IMO and get 2oz of hand expressing in 15 mins and I am told that is great!

MerryPIFFLEmas · 20/12/2007 20:32

ds2 hears the click of my bra (he is 9 mths) and immediately turns

DanJARMouse · 20/12/2007 20:37

lol

thanks girls, this is so good for me - you are really so helpful! I know i probably sound like a loon in asking all these silly questions, im sorry!

Going to get him weighed tomorrow (its been nearly 2 weeks!) more for my peace of mind than anything because i know he is growing because he is out of his newborn stuff!!!

OP posts:
moondog · 20/12/2007 20:39

No,you don't sound like a loon at all.
All totally normal.

I used to keep a dieary on frequence and duration of feeds for about the first month and insist on showing it to the mw.

DanJARMouse · 20/12/2007 20:44

im not that obsessive!!

Not worries about the duration or frequency of feeds so much, take the cues from either him screaming or my boobs feeling too full!

Ive always been a stickler for weight though - I love to know they are growing well, and I guess one of my fears with BFing was "failure to thrive" label that HV's love so much!

OP posts:
MerryPIFFLEmas · 20/12/2007 20:47

I have bf one over 99.6 ( you feed him too much) one FTT (dd had other issues but at first they tried to blame my milk) and one who has dropped from 75th at birth to 25th now - and at 8 mths is perfect !
All are fab healthy kids

mawbroonGotRunOverByAReindeer · 20/12/2007 22:33

HI DJARM, sounds like you are doing great My ds seemed to be able to latch himself on and off from around 4 weeks. I took the opportunity to let him help himself at night times and could sleep through the whole procedure. If anyone asked me how often ds was feeding in the night, I honestly had no idea.

Sounds like you are doing really well with the expressing too.

Well done!

imdreamingofawhiteKITTYmas · 20/12/2007 22:48

hey JARM you seem to be doing really well, 3 weeks is a milestone, once you get past 3 weeks you are there, it gets easier and easier from now on in.

As for the latching on themselves, I think DD2 did that from the minute she was born, I couldn't get my boob out fast enough for her, I would go to latch her and she would be there already. Nowadays she just shouts "Mummy more tatties" at me

DanJARMouse · 21/12/2007 12:33

GET IN!!!!

10oz in 10 days! 9lbs exactly!

My boobs WORK!!!

OP posts:
DanJARMouse · 21/12/2007 18:18

Can I just add to this now I have just about pulled myself down off the ceiling!

THANK YOU for all of your help and support over the last 3 weeks, it has meant so much to me, and todays weigh in has given me the reassurance that indeed my body does work, that Daniel is a very efficient feeder and I am giving him the best start possible.

Im not saying there arent going to be ups and downs, lord knows Ive been a bit of a dragon to DH today because the boy has been fairly demanding since lunchtime, Im to admit I passed him to DH and said "ive had enough, he's been fed, im going to bed" at 3pm this afternoon! I think I have some making up with DH to do!

On that note, Im going to wake the boy, give him a bath, feed him and hopefully get him back down for a good sleep while we try and get the girls to bed!

Oh Jarm, I'm dead please about your excellent weigh-in and your, er, excellent boobs and even your afternoon sleep which seems only reasonable. 3 weeks in to be feeling like this and having confidence now is fantastic...

well done jarm you're doing a fab job. also do what YOU want, not what the MV/HV tells you you should do - you know this have confidence in yourself and you'll not go far wrong.

MerryXMoss · 21/12/2007 22:38

Jarm it's so great to hear you're doing so well. I think that your threads should be printed out and included in Bounty packs for new Mums who are trying to bf, as an example that it can be a struggle at first but you can get through it and do really well!!

moondog · 22/12/2007 22:34

Terrific news JARM!
i think maybe now you really do have faith in your body don't you?

I also know that it's easy for people to be dismissive and say that weight gain doesn't matter so much but obviously as the mother of a new baby it is the thing that one fixates on.

Ooooh, am sooo proud of you, girl!
