thisis the reply I had...
Good afternoon,
Thankyou for your recent email to Wyvern FM, regarding Late Night Love with Graham Torrington and I can assure you that your email has been fully read and considered.
Late Night Love is put together by an external production team who are not directly under Wyvern FM's 'minute by minute' management.
However, I have listened back to the item to which you refer and am glad to report that it doesn't break any Ofcom guidelines (the radio regulator). Graham is not a counsellor or judge and jury and as a professional radio presenter, has a duty to ensure that all opinions are heard on a particular subject.
The piece you heard was a conversation between himself and a caller (not a one man 'rant'!) in which he drew out her opinions on breastfeeding by playing devil's advocate. She was a strong caller and held her side of the argument and I have no doubt had many hundreds of calls, backing her. However, without the 'devil's advocate' part, the subject might never have made it to air (a subject that I am sure you will agree, deserves frank discussion) or the major points that the caller was capable of making would never have fully been told.
If this particular subject had been covered as a monologue from the presenter without any soliciting for callers and/or frank discussion, I would uphold your complaint. However, as a frank late night balanced discussion from different points of view, it went well beyond a simple radio show and became something that people could talk about, debate and examine their own personal feelings.
There is no hidden agenda in these kind of shows so feel free to phone up Late Night Love and put your point of view when you hear something you would like to discuss. It's what the programme is all about.
I hope this clears any misunderstandings up and thankyou for listening to Wyvern FM.
