Thanks for all the support ladies.

MrsN you are not a bad mummy. As someone said on another thread you don't see any 21 year olds that feed or need to be rocked to sleep. Don't beat yourself up. A few if my friends have babies the same age as baby larle and their LOs go to sleep on their own and sleep through the night whereas baby larle doesn't. It doesn't mean I'm a bad mum just that baby larle is different. At the moment I'm going to do whatever makes life easier and means he doesn't cry. I don't think that decision makes anyone a bad mummy.

Pour yourself a big glass of wine and take plenty of virtual hugs x

Evening.
Babythorne having what I hope is her bedtime feed (fed 3 times since 6pm). Just 2feeds last night so I felt spoiled. Also ds slept until 6am (miracle here). fingers crossed, holding breath for more of the same

larle your dh was very naughty spoiling your night out but remember that dh's are very annoying. I reckon as others have said, that he's probably tired (bloody cheek i know) stressed by new fatherhood, felt anxious about whether he'd be able to cope, plus a little bit of being a knob that day Grin. Hopefully things are brighter today. If not come and yell at us.

mrsn I have been there with feeling inadequate about dc's sleeping. He's come so far in the last year. Fwiw, I read elizabeth pantley's "no cry sleep solution" and found the section on napping and on stopping feeding to sleep (and subsequently dropping night feeds) really helpful.
I also found it helped me lose some of the guilt and worry about his sleep.

Anyway, hoping for a good night Hmm.
Thanks for this thread, it keeps me slightly sane in the night.

Feeding here, hubby has tried to settle him for half an hour so we decided to feed him one more time before 11. Anyone have any suggestions what to do in the night if he won't be settled? Really want to stop the feeding in the night!

I'm reading that at the moment Emily thank you. Hope you join the rest of the Thorne's in sleepy land!

Aaaaaargh, cluster feeding here too. Have been at it since 8pm. Every hour, then she gets drowsy but then wide awake and grizzly. I've got a funny sense of deja vu but am praying it doesn't go on till 3 again. Or I may just leave the house to get away from the crying. Come on girly, finish up and go to sleep. Glad i'm not alone tonight Smile Brew

Good evening ladies. First feed here. DS is in a grobag tonight instead of blankets tonight to see if that helps him sleep. He's done well so far :) I'm hoping he doesn't want to stay awake for 2 hours after feeds like the past 3 nights!

Going out for lunch tomorrow with DM and DSis and DF is babysitting. Not seen my mum since she told me she was diagnosed with breast cancer (we live far away and me and dp don't drive) so I'm looking forward to seeing her.

I've managed to express 3 1/2 oz. Do you think that will be enough? I will feed him before I go anyway so he probably won't need it but we'll probably be gone a couple of hours.

Woohoo he fed for about 30 mins and no transfer fails Grin will probably only get two hours until next feed.

Evening ladies,

We met some friends for dinner so late to bed for Miss Madam, she didn't go down until about 11 (after 1 epic transfer fail) but just up for a feed again now. Hoping I might get through until sometime around 5 with this one but that's hoping a lot at the moment!

At least we had a lovely evening Wine

Just finished 2nd feed. Babythorne not settling Sad.

Well done abi hopefully you're in sleepy land by now. I'm so sorry about your mum. I hope that you all have a good lunch tomorrow.

mrsn toddlerthorne stopped night feeds around a year old after I used the "pantley's gental removal system" in that book. I was a wuss, have never let him cry, just can't bear it. That system really worked for us to stop night feeds, it was amazing.

Evening. Thurs feed here.
Off to a wedding tomorrow which baby larle can't come to so my DSis is having him during the day. I've got 20oz of milk to give her to last about 8 hours!! God knows if that's enough.

Neighbours seem to be having a party tonight. Thank god for the new double glazing as can only hear the thudding of the beat. Glad I don't need window open tonight!!

WW on hold today and tomorrow so I can enjoy myself!!

Baby larle asleep so going to attempt transfer in a min.

Sleepy dust to everyone

Second feed here. Think I may have to open the window as it is so warm! Maybe that's why ds didn't sleep for very long?

Well I'm up feeding - hubby has tried to settle him for an hour and 15 mins without success and he's now taking a big feed so I'm at a loss. He obviously still needs night feeds at the moment?

Sounds like some lovely days planned tomorrow! I am having a lie in and then we are popping in to see my friend.

I was right - DD still awake and complaining like hell. Left her with DH at 1 after getting her to sleep but apparently she was awake again by 1.30 (well, I must have fallen into a coma quite easily...) and he gave her a bottle of ebm but she wouldn't settle back down. I heard her about 20 minutes ago (bad Mummy, sleeping through the crying) and have taken over so he can catch some zzzzzzzs. Which, by the sounds of it, he has accomplished already. Unfortunately, when this happened the other night, I had no influence in her going off to sleep - it was simply that I put her down while she was crying and she.self.settled after about ten minutes. I have tried that again but I don't think she's exhausted enough yet. I'll just keep feeding her now and ride it out....... At least i've had some sleep Confused Brew Brew Brew Brew

Another feed. They're so short, which probably doesn't help but when she's done she's done. What can you do? Smile.

I think Colombo's on in a minute Grin

I 've been so proud of my (ok, very recent) healthy eating and willpower. Thought I'd give a fast day (5:2 style) tomorrow. Just hope I can hold out when feeling so tired.
Really want to be slim for the summer.

larle I hope ou enjoy the wedding. Well done for expressing 20oz.

mrsn sounds like babypatz does need that feed eh. How old is he? I started with dropping one feed at a time at about a year (or so). Sometimes they just need that food don't they. Monkeys. Grin

Keep going thorne - mine's just gone down after an epic feed of 30 mins. I'm chalking it up to a growth spurt and take comfort from believing she'll have worn herself out so tomorrow will be much more sleepy!
As for the summer slumming, i'm there. Just waiting until after my check up before I go back to healthy eating WW style. I'm enjoying tje freedom at the moment though and it's going to be hard giving up eating whole packets of choccy suggestives. As they say though - nothing tastes as good as being slim feels!

Crap - I meant 'summer slimming' although 'slumming' may be appropriate for me... Grin

Grin anypants I quoted that "nothing tastes as good...." thing yesterday on the weight loss board. Great minds think alike obviously.

I hope you get some sleep after that fabulous feed.
Just think, 20 calories burned for every ounce of milk (or thereabouts).

Up feeding again, poor hubby has tried for nearly an hour again to settle him but it wasn't happening. Taking a good feed again now. I don't know what to do - he's not sleeping enough in the day which is probably effecting his bedtime and sleep at night so do I concentrate on naps or night time first? Do I try and solve the feeding to sleep or night feeds first? I feel completely lost.

He's 7 months Emily.

Well that was a bit rubbish! Got in from work at around 1 and it was about 2 when I got into bed. Missmarbles woke at 10 past and was up about every hour thereafter until 5 when she slept til 8Confused DH has just taken her downstairs though so will get some more zzzz now. My joints ache with tiredness after a thoroughly exhausting week.

MrsN, NCSS says daytime sleep at all costs, so in pram, on you, or whatever you need to do until nights are sorted then work on days that's how I justify it when Missmarbles and I have a little snooze togetherGrin

Report
Emilythornesbff · 13/04/2013 09:52

mrsn I would agree with missingmymarbles about daytime sleep.
NCSS does say that you should do anything you need to ensure a daytime nap (looking at 2 naps a day for babypatz' age I think).
Try not to worry. He's still young and night feeding is completely normal at his age. I would get those naps in, even if it means dh taking him for a drive, or a walk round the block fifty times or rocking or whatever. Then concentrate on the "pantley removal plan" to help reduce his need to feed to sleep. Night feeds might continue but then they'll be because he needs the milk rather than feeding to sleep IYSWIM.
Fwiw, another sleep programme "millpond" I think, strongly recommends reducing dependence on feeding to sleep (that includes avoiding a dummy) from about this age.
Good luck.
Em

(still feeding)

Thanks Emily and Marbles that's really helpful!

Hubby has suggested trying a bottle of formula at bedtime feed - what do you think?

Marbles sleep well!

Aha - the epic feed did indeed work and she was still asleep until just now. Have woken her to feed as it's been over 6 hours. Why couldn't she have gone that long during the night? Looks like we've got some night and day differentiating to do Envy

DS is 6.5 months and no two nights are the same!

last night bottle feed at 7.00 goes down awake up at 11.00 breasfed then up at 1.30 gave him dummy then awake again at 4.00 breastfed up at 7.45 for the day.

Thursday night bottle fed at 7.00 up at 11.00, DH gave him a bottle so i could sleep and that was him until 6.45. this is the first time he's slept through for about 2 months.

his daytime sleep is pretty good. usually two short naps
and one long one around lunchtime.

BLW so don't really know how much he's eating but is definitely eating something twice a day.

who knows what tonight will bring....sigh
