Feeding here, I just want sleep Blush

Marbles sorry I wasn't v clear - you have to count them point wise, I just don't count them quantity wise!

Ahem, are we forgetting BabyTea, king of sleep awfulness, who turns one next week? Grin

This bloody fever is still raging on Sad Dr today said it might be a virus, but he wants to rule out UTI. So now I have the fun of trying to get a sample - who has done this before, was it larle?
Means we can't go to baby signing tomorrow, or go to my mum & dad's where my aunt and cousin are visiting Sad

DS has had calpol and is now failing to go to sleep. Feeding, cuddling, singing all having no effect. Sigh.

MrsNPattz · 17/04/2013 23:53

Give me strength, transfer fail. I have just given Calpol which he was not happy about - not like him cause he usually likes it!

tea definitely wins!! Grin with marbles second... And actually if stitch is still around she was 11 months about a month ago.
can you do the cottonwool-in-nappy trick for the sample tea ? That's how we did it with BG when he was newborn.

BG has made himself a nest. Has pulled the sheet free and arranged in round his head so he is tucked in snugly. Ahhhh...

GiraffesAndButterflies · 17/04/2013 23:58

Poor old babytea! How the heck do you catch a urine sample from a baby? Blue Peter never covered these life skills, way more useful than Christmas decorations out of jam or whatever.

Sympathies to all of you with 'older babies', I can't imagine having to do all this for months and months. You have my respect Shock Brew

Thanks for the sympathy re: no chocolate. That's actually quite gratifying! And I can show your comments to DH so he appreciates the sacrifice and thinks up ways to compensate Grin

GiraffesAndButterflies · 17/04/2013 23:59

Blowing sleepy dust your way MrsN

Anypants · 18/04/2013 00:53

First feed tonight - got to sleep for about an hour-ish and feel more tired. Despite my 5 and half hours sleep last night, I didn't get any more today so I'm no better off. Will have to nap more tomorrow depending on how tonight goes Brew

larlemucker · 18/04/2013 00:56

Yes tea I had to get a sample from BL! I popped him on his gym on top of towels and a absorbent change mat and waited, and waited, and waited. Was so busy getting fluff out if his belly button I missed the first one!! Got some in the end though. Some one recommended sitting him in an empty baby bath which I wish I had thought of

First feed here. I've had 3 hours sleep which is probably the most I'll get in one lump tonight.

Decided this weekend we're going to try and get him back to sleep without feeding overnight as he shouldn't need feeding this often and the lack of sleep is killing me

Sleepy dust to all

milktraylady · 18/04/2013 01:55

Hi, our transfer did work last night! Yippee! But then she needed fed again, so woke up crying an hour later. And looking at the feeds timing- she fed every 2 hours from 8pm.
Looks like she's doing that tonight as well.

So I caught up on sleep in the day yesterday, DH gets a night sleep. As he can't nap. I assume its my hormones: head hits the pillow + can't hear crying = me asleep!

Plus my mum gave me advice- I wondered if anyone else does this:
Feed, change nappy, swaddle, another short feed to sleep, cuddle to ensure asleep & transfer to Moses basket. It worked 3 times today successfully. She slept for over an hour each time doing this.

I know the nhs policy is against swaddling, but I was wondering what you think?

milktraylady · 18/04/2013 02:02

Goat- a good tip for getting a urine sample from a nappy, in case i need to (hope not) Thanks.

MrsNPattz · 18/04/2013 02:18

Third feed, so sleepy.
Larle can I ask how you are going to try and stop night feeds? I will try anything

OP posts:
larlemucker · 18/04/2013 03:47

MrsN if he wakes not long after a feed then we are going to see of he can be rocked etc back to sleep. If he really cries then feed but hopefully that means we have spread the time between feeds out (from what to expect the first year).
Not going to start till friday though as at least then DH is off work.
He aim is to slowly stretch out night feeds so we get to sleep longer.

Second feed here so not a terrible night so far, it sounds horrid outside though.
Hope others are getting some sleep

Anypants · 18/04/2013 03:48

Milk I use the same pattern - feed, change, swaddle, feed, sleep. I find DD only sleeps soundly if she can' t wave her arms about and it makes sense in the 'fourth trimester' theory. I also use the 5 S's: swaddle, sway, shush, suck (i don't use a dummy, just boob, if necessary) and side (have your LO on their side slightly when you're cuddling). Put all these together at once and I can always get her to sleep. Not always successful with the transfer though but the swaddling helps her feel like she's still being held. You're doing a great job so keep going the way you are! Smile

milktraylady · 18/04/2013 04:01

Thanks for the reassurance anypants.
Last feed was at 12.30, am trying to decide whether her grumblings are enough to try for a feed just now (5days old) or leave her.

Is it possible to detect a pattern when they have gut pain? She was a bit screamy after her feed, then settled on me & I didn't transfer. But now I have a numb bum!

Just wondering if this will happen after every feed?

Novia · 18/04/2013 04:15

Hi there, wondering if I can join. Just fed and now have a tired baby in my arms which I'm trying to rock to sleep. She's 13 days old and usually a good feeder/sleeper, but I'm on a ton of antibiotics and its making her poor tummy very uncomfortable. Hmm

GiraffesAndButterflies · 18/04/2013 04:27

milktraylady - I've done zero research on the matter, but one of the nhs hospital midwives swaddled DD while we were there. So I'd imagine they can't be that strongly against it Grin

Good luck with the new plan larle

Any I know what you mean, sometimes it feels like it would feel nicer not to sleep at all than to just get a short sleep Confused

DD has just slept for more than 3 hours, possibly a personal best. Oh hell,, does this mean giving up chocolate is the way to go?

abi2790 · 18/04/2013 04:29

Hello ladies Smile. Little man had a fantastic sleep again from 8 til 4! This is the 2nd night in a row... Maybe this is a permanent thing. not keeping my hopes up.

Sending lots of sleepy dust to you all Brew

Anypants · 18/04/2013 04:31

Welcome Novia - if you're awake in the middle of the night and feeding a small human then come on in, the water's lovely! You'll need to bring some biscuits to the party though Wink Congratulations on your new arrival Smile
Milk don't worry about patterns at the mo - it's early days and even if your LO keeps doing the same stuff now, it'll be different next week!
Off to try a transfer now - wish me luck!

larlemucker · 18/04/2013 05:17

Welcome novia and congratulations!

We're up again Hmm I've had a total of 4 hours sleep broken into 3 chunks. So, so tired.

Emilythornesbff · 18/04/2013 05:40

Hi everyone. Can't readjusts clearly because tiredness has made my vision blurry but I'm thinking of you all.
Welcome to the joy of night feeds Novia.
In spare room so dh can sleep.
Babythorne didn't settle until after 11 and seems to have had micro snacks every hour since then Grin when she dozed off an hour ago ds woke up and I've been trying to settle him. I can hear him again now so a grand total of no fucking sleep for mummy tonight Sad

The problem with swaddling s he potential for overheating so you just need to use light coverings, like a sheet for swaddling and don't pile blankets on top for example.

Hope baby tea is better soon

SoYoFromKokomo · 18/04/2013 06:14

So. Tired. But. Can't. Sleep.

Aaaaaaaaagh

MissingMyMarbles · 18/04/2013 07:25

Very sleepy this morning. Not a good night, just as I was saying it was all improvingSad. To be fair, though, it's because she's got a stinker of a cold and really isn't well. Nose too blocked to feed. Have her upright now for drainage and she's managing to sleep some. Being a bit sick with sticky snot. Poor love

MrsNPattz · 18/04/2013 07:31

Morning guys, bloody awful night. At half 4 I fed lying down for the first time and kept him in with me. I think feeding lying down is going to be the way to go if this continues!

Larle we may join you in trying this, are you going to rock or is hubby?

Welcome Novia!

OP posts:
Anypants · 18/04/2013 07:53

Ugh. Not. Enough. Sleep. Perfectly reasonable night by all accounts but feel as if i've had no sleep at all. I estimate a total of 5.5 hours but in three chunks, just like you larle.
Really need some quality time with my duvet Sad

abi2790 · 18/04/2013 08:12

Sorry for everyone who had a bad night. Hope you get a good night's sleep soon.

DS is driving me nuts this morning. I have boobs like Katie Price from him sleeping so well but he only wants to play not eat!
