A brand spanking new thread for midnight ramblings, chocolate covered pretzels and so much more Grin

No mention of vit D here either. I wonder what that is all about.

goat babyfunch voms after every feed at the moment too. I am hoping it is because of catarrh and will pass when her cold does.

DH has just proudly showed me his skills with the snit-sucker I bought from Boots...it gets an impressive amount of snot out but it is not really a spectator sport - I nearly threw up!

Goatbongosanonymous · 01/12/2012 17:29

Ewwwwww funch but maybe I need one. Although I have a feeling I may have to be the operator, as just describing it to DH made him nearly throw up!

Smallgreenone · 01/12/2012 18:21

Hi all from a very sprightly me! DH did the nighttime for me with expressed milk so I had a full nights sleep!! Also baby small actually only woke once at half two so huge improvement there- what's the betting now I'm on my own he'll go back to hourly waking?! Anyway if your partner is willing and you can express some milk if bfing then I suggest you beg them to do a night for you even just one night has made such a difference. I shall still go to bed early tonight though just in case I get another bad night.
We have a snot sucker too funch but I could never get very much out with it. Baby small is v snuffly but its not visible snot, it seems sort of stuck somewhere if that makes sense. I use olbas oil but not sure it helps much.
Last feed before bed now. Good luck everyone!

missingmymarbles · 01/12/2012 19:37

Maybe we should get a snot-sucker. Missmarbles is very snuffly again, but like Small I can't see it.

DD1 had vitamin drops and iron drops daily when she first came home, but she vommed every time. It was the paediatrician that told me not to worry too much as I was ebf and absorption is so much better.

On bedtime feed but its taking a while. She's done but I fine-tuning the heater we've got on her room. It worked well last might but you seem to have to reset it.

Sleep well. See you later.

Loislane78 · 01/12/2012 20:04

We were shown one of those snot-suckers at my ante-natal group. None of us knew what it was until the tutor explained - there followed widespread disgust (esp by the dads) until she also explained how it worked ie. you don't have to suck the other end! Grin. Followed lots of relieved 'ahhhhh's' :)

MrsNPattz · 01/12/2012 20:16

I think there is a snot sucker in our Tommee Tippee set but it sounds gross lol but if it works then Grin

I have brought little man up earlier tonight as I am shattered and so is he. I'm hoping this is the last feed but probably not!

We go home on Monday Sad feeling really sad about it, even though it's not long until we are back.

I forgot to tell you guys that I have referred myself for counselling because of how I am struggling with being away from home and how I feel about my in laws since little man was born. Really hoping it helps resolve the issues as I don't want it to come between me and hubby.

small sounds like heaven! How were your boobies in the morning??

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 01/12/2012 21:11

Congratulations on impending auntiedom marbles !

Well done mrsn it sounds like you are doing the right thing, everybody needs a bit of extra support from time to time but if you've been feeling consistently like you're struggling its great that you are going to get some back up. And we're all always here for those extra times when you need to talk things over.

I'm feeling crap today, its been one thing after another today. I've got a horrible cold and a sore throat making talking or eating really painful, my tooth is still bad even after dentists visit and my dodgy back is getting worse :( Then to top it all off I took the DDs to the garden centre today where they have a little soft play room and DD1 managed to fall off a chair and split her lip on the horrible hard concrete floor of the cafe area. I felt so awful but she was such a good girl, and when the manager said they didn't have any ice (I'd asked for some to try and bring the swelling down) I was very nearly really pissed off until he said "but we do have some magic ice cream if that is any consolation" and then I nearly kissed him for being so thoughtful. He gave her a massive bowl on the house and she was very quickly clamouring to get back in the ball pond. Still feel terrible though, I know they have accidents but I feel like I should somehow be psychic and be able to prevent them :(

Hoping for a good night tonight, we've had a few very screamy ones since immunisations on Wednesday but my cold riddled body can't cope with much more!

Ok moan over...sorry about that!

funchum8am · 01/12/2012 21:29

mrsn you are definitely doing the right thing...trying to soldier on when you are feeling low is generally a recipe for worse problems in the end. and as Heff says, we are here to listen too Smile

heff I have a cold too Sad Not looking forward to tonight but DH is going to do the next feed from a bottle as small suggested...fingers crossed I can get back to sleep after he takes her!

DH has just asked 'is it bad that I want to try the snot sucker on myself?'. Shock Delightful.

I leave you with that thought, for now Grin

Smallgreenone · 01/12/2012 21:34

Boobies v sore and hard mrsn! Worth it though.
Oh dear heff sorry you are feeling rotten and your poor dd, hope she is recovering from the fall.
Baby small has just awoken and downed his bottle of expressed milk that I was going to give him at 11pm- I like to give him a bottle at that time so I know he's had a good feed. Anyway it's made me wonder if he's getting enough at his 6pm feed. He always feeds for ages at that one and my boobs always feel so empty by that point in the day. Anyway had better delve into my freezer stash and defrost some more for 11 o clock feed although secretly hoping he might sleep through that now and go to 1?
I think counselling is a good idea too mrsn last thing you want is it affecting you and your DH.

blonderthanred · 01/12/2012 22:02

mrsn that sounds very sensible to get the counselling. Hope it helps you get back on track.

Btw do you have the Tommee Tippee 'grooming kit'? I was thinking of getting it, mainly as I wanted some baby nail scissors but there are mixed reviews on Amazon.

Goatbongosanonymous · 01/12/2012 23:42

mrsn the counselling sounds like a really good idea in the midst of everything you have to deal with right ow. Talking things through with someone neutral and really good can help o much.

heff sorry you are feeling so bleurgh. Can you get your back seen to? With two LOs ou really don't want to risk long term damage...

funch it is moments like this that reminds us why we are with our DPs!

small fingers crossed for 1.

blonder I just use ordinary nail scissors as Kid is bizarrely amenable to nail cutting all of a sudden.

Ameybee · 02/12/2012 00:07

I am chief snot sucker in this house and I find the whole thing quite satisfying with the little implement - DH thinks I'm gross but I like spot picking too & he hates that!

Glad you're getting some help mrsn it must be tough being away from your family, I think when you have a baby you realise how much you want your own family, me and my mum have been so close since I had DD!

First feeds since 830 here but its a rubbish one - he's messing about falling asleep! Groan!

heff hope DD's lip is ok, I can relate to how you feel! I often cry when DD hurts herself & I think people think I'm a nutter but its just how I'm made!! Xx

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 02/12/2012 01:13

Thanks for the sympathy ladies, its so good to have you all to talk to as sometimes you just can't whinge about things repeatedly to people in 'RL'. :) goat you're right I probably should get it seen to, its one of those things on my endless to do list bit I should probably give it higher priority. New Year's resolution will be to stop putting important things on the back burner!

We've just come upstairs as I thought babylump was finally asleep but five minutes in she's up and raring to go again so we're having a token feed to try and send her off again.

funch that sounds gross! But glad it seems to work for baby funch.

Sounds like a very well earned rest small, hope baby small starts to follow suit.

Sleepy dust liberally sprinkled...

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 02/12/2012 01:39

Righto, attempting transfer...

funchum8am · 02/12/2012 02:44

heff so sorry to hear dd1 hurt herself and I know how you feel after my little car seat mishap, only yours wasn't your fault at least! But seeing them hurt is just so awful! glas the man brought lovely magic ice cream!

babyfunch has refused DH's best efforts to feed her Sad. she took half the bottle from me and is now bfing. We will have to keep trying as I would like to go away for a proper night's sleep at some point!

blonderthanred · 02/12/2012 02:48

Poor DS hasn't pooed for 2 days, apparently not uncommon in bf babies but he is in some discomfort, either there is backed up poo or trapped wind. Lots of tummy rumbles but clean nappies (although still wet so he is weeing).

We've had a very unsettled day, naps in arms only, he seemed very asleep a while ago so attempted transfer 1am but he was immediately awake again and wanting to feed repeatedly (maybe to get things moving?) since then. Scared he will burst if it keeps going in one end and not out the other.

DH has just taken him downstairs so I can get a couple of hrs sleep but I can hear him crying which is breaking my heart.

Hope you are all having better nights...

Smallgreenone · 02/12/2012 02:51

Ooh quiet on here tonight are you all sleeping? Baby small had another 4oz at 11 after his 9pm feed and another 4 just now- I love knowing how much he's had! Seems a lot though, I think I may have been starving the little man. Just expressing and then I shall be back to bed until 5 I hope or if I'm super lucky 6.
Hope you're all snoozing happily.

MrsNPattz · 02/12/2012 02:52

First feed here - early for us.

Thanks guys! I really hope it does help.

blonder yep it's the grooming kit - I have only used the scissors so far so can't really review it but I like to know I have things to hand!

heff glad DD1 is ok - poor you! Hope you are feeling a bit better now, maybe you need some ice cream yourself Grin

Ameybee · 02/12/2012 03:01

small sure you've not been starving him HV told me that even if you express 4oz off baby can still get another 5oz off! Efficient little things these babies! But I think bf is too hard work & comforting for them which is why they nod off- as my DS is doing as we speak Confused! I don't have the energy for nappy change - but know I need to Hmm

Ameybee · 02/12/2012 03:09

Playing nappy roulette and may have lost Confused - smiling at me! Nooooooo

Ameybee · 02/12/2012 03:27

He just had a sneezeathon and I got SO much out with the bogey sucker - he sounds much clearer! Although now he's making the cutest sounds ever and is awake Blushattempting boob back to sleep as that's 2 transfer fails under our belt! X

missingmymarbles · 02/12/2012 03:48

Yay! Just had 4 hours. Sadly I didn't coz I was faffing with heater. She slept 7.30 til 11, when I discovered nappy had leaked wee, so I changed it and she had a poonami 5 or 6 days worth!! Blonder, bf babies can go longer than 10 days and it still be normal. Anyway she's then done 11.30-3.30. Amazing! Same again will see us til morningGrin

Attempting transfer. I repeat, attempting transfer. Over.....

funchum8am · 02/12/2012 03:58

Feeding again here after leg flailing and grunting - think it is trapped wind. but she slept 3-3.45 again which is progress. I am starving but snack stash is empty...Shock Still it is the local Christmas fair tomorrow so can stock up on goodies Grin
Good luck for lovely sleeps that last til morning everyone.

Goatbongohohoandjinglejingle · 02/12/2012 03:58

blonder the longest we went on ebf was six days... Xmas Hmm that day six wasn't pleasant! But tree was no harm done, and he looked very pleased with himself!!

Kid is getting to the 'helpful' stage. Put the bib on and it gets removed... Go to put bottle in mouth and there is a hand there already... Tries to hold own bottle and sends it flying. makes feeing ever more interesting!

Susieloo · 02/12/2012 04:02

4th feed tonight I think, he's so bunged up he keeps waking himself up, will catch up with thread during my first coffee, hopefully nearer 8 o clock rathervthan 6!!
