Hey ladies, here's a shiny new thread for us to discuss, query, whinge about and rejoice our high-need bubs!

Pretty bad night last night, bleeding exhausted. Can see why so many of you co-sleep. We haven't gone down that route, but it's never looked so attractive...

Gawd, grizzly DS. Poor tooths. Hope you have had a decent night!

Queen - Shock I can't believe your mum said that. You can't choose your family eh? If it makes you feel any better, I lost all my baby weight about three seconds after giving birth (bear with me, that's not the reassuring bit!) but have put on stacks by eating cake all the way through my maternity leave Grin I pee-ed on a stick the other day because my tummy was sticking out so much I was worried that BabyTruthTwo might be imminent!

I may have said it before, but our local gym has a great creche, which allows me an hour of baby free time and the chance to work out, so it may be worth checking if there's anything similar near you.

Mampig · 20/02/2012 21:03

Tulip funny, kind of had that feeling- that's where I'm from Smile

buttonmoon78 · 21/02/2012 10:06

truth don't ask me! I failed miserably last time!

I'm fat. DS likes to cuddle it Wink.

buttonmoon78 · 21/02/2012 10:07

In fact truth the epic quote from last time was 'I'm not depressed. I'm happy sometimes. At least once a week'. Cue my head in my hands wanting to laugh or cry or both...

buttonmoon78 · 21/02/2012 11:26

I've just remembered it's pancake day! Yay! Scoff scoff!

Diet starts next year tomorrow... Wink

TitaniaP · 21/02/2012 11:39

Well DSs sleep is pretty bad at the mo - think it's because he's trying to stand (help). He's also become very anti-daddy in the two days since we've come back from London. A far cry from the little boy who went to anyone and everyone on Saturday night.

I have lost another 2lbs (1stone 1 in 6 weeks which I'm very happy about). I will be doing SW pancakes tonight (can I just add I still have another 5st or so to go)

DS had a big fall last night and hit his head on the corner of the shower tray. Cue massive bruise and lots of screaming

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 21/02/2012 12:43

Poor BabyTitania! Is he okay? And are you okay? It's horrid when they get hurt isn't it? Guilty feelings!

I'd totally forgotten it was pancake day. Whoop. Wait, does this mean I have to give something up? I might try to give up cake. I eat faaaaaarrrr too much of it.

Did I mention we've put DS in his own room? It seems to work well for the first part of the night, but by 3am he's waking every 30 mins so I've ended up sleeping in there with him until morning. That's okay isn't it? He's still getting used to his own room.

MissusTulip · 21/02/2012 12:50

titania - wow, v impressed at weight loss! Poor wee DS, hope he'll be friends with daddy again soon. Poor daddy!

mampig are u still in the land of tayto? Mum has been issued the usual shopping list - plain loaf, veda and tayto om nom nom!

just been to the shop with ds in the ring sling (to buy nutella, ice cream, lemon juice and eggs for pancakes Smile where he was smiling at everyone. No smilesfor mummy so far, just another broken night's sleep, fussy at the boob and a stealth poo out the side of his nappy onto my leg... He was grizzling on his mat and I picked him up for the usual battle to get him to sleep but he dropped off right away Shock. Bless.

Looking forward to everyone's pancake updates! What toppings and pancake style please

LittleWaveyLines · 21/02/2012 13:19

Cake is what is seeing me through - I have lost 1 stone, but still have another to go - which won't until i stop eating cake! Grin

Hope your DS is ok Titania.

Well I've been into work/school today. Didn't get to see the head, but spoke to the deputy head and saw my department.

I'm not going back until she's 10.5 months, so I wimped out of the whole "I will still be breastfeeding" conversation, and just left it as a part time request for now.... she may well be only feeding nights by then!

Pancakes - will be off to the shop in a bit to buy flour and maple syrup. Is maple syrup ok for babies anyone know?

I never ever cease to be amazed that so many people obviously can't cook pancakes that they have to sell ready made pancakes, and ready made pancake mixture.... I never even bother measuring, and it still always works out ok - they're not hard!

QueenKong · 21/02/2012 13:56

Have just got back from the shops with a jar of nutella and some cream for whipping! Faaaaatty! But it is baby's first pancake day [weak excuse emoticon].

Titania - DS fell and bumped his head this morning too. He then got flattened by a 15mo at sing and sign. Sad Well done on the weight lose - that's really impressive!

ATruth - am very jealous that you're managing to get your LO to sleep in his own room. Congrats. I honestly think DS will be in with me until he goes to university. Just cannot see how we will ever get him out! Ah well, he keeps me warm!

JeewizzJen · 21/02/2012 14:54

Oh dear to those with fallen over babies! DS has been toppling a lot recently. He learnt to sit up about 2 weeks ago, and as of yesterday has suddenly worked out rolling over, which he now does non-stop and is looking threateningly like he'll be crawling very very soon. It's all happened so fast!!

I'll mostly be sporting maple syrup on my pancakes this evening - I'm Canadian, and it's law Wink

Nice work on the own room thing Truth!! I'm also jealous!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 21/02/2012 17:42

I don't like having him in his own room though. I miss him! Plus, we always end up in the spare bed together anyway so I'm not sure it counts.

TBH, i don't think BabyTruth is particularly High Needs any more. I just like hanging out here. The nights are hard work & weaning is proving impossible, but otherwise, well he's just amazing Grin Shall I get my coat?

Haha on wimping out LWL. I got an email back from the head confirming that expressing will be fine & am going in later this week to work out details. There's a teeny tiny chance I may be going back to a promotion. Fingers crossed! Dont know why I was so worried.

Makenzie · 21/02/2012 18:13

Atruth. Best of luck with the possible promotion. It's funny how things work out sometimes.
Jeewiz. I have been dreaming about hot buttermilk pancakes. There's just something about a lil one attached to the boob and mixing batter, pouring and flipping them that just doesnt work for me. I'm so jealous! Gotta have hubby make me some tomorrow. Until then it's anything in a box to grab. You must enjoy!

LittleWaveyLines · 21/02/2012 19:35

Hey Truth - don't go - it's fab that he's no longer high needs and well done on the promotion!

I'm not sure mt DD is s high needs anymore - was able to leave with someone for a couple of minutes today without her batting an eyelid!

Mind you some days she still wont be put down, and still bfs 2hourly day and night so... [shrug]

TitaniaP · 21/02/2012 20:03

Well DS doesn't seem any the worse for wear for his bumped head, and I'm sure they'll be many more to come.

Truth - please don't go, we need you as a reminder that one day they might leave our beds!! We like you hanging around here too!

I suggested to DP that I don't need him in his own cot, we just need a bigger bed. He's not convinced!

I had a lovely day today, met up with a group of mums that I know through sling meet and they have regular net mums meetups (shhh I know it's the 'other' site). Despite not being on net mums I tag along to their meets which often turns into a mini sling meet (our local sling meet can be a little quiche-like). Today there were three wraps, a connecta, an R&R a custom half buckle and a mai-tai! I fell in love with the custom half buckle (soft-tai) and may be selling my R&R to fund. They're such a lovely group- and so not judgemental. Unlike my NCT group who I'm meeting tomorrow ( I really like a couple of them). I'm much more relaxed about my parenting choices now, so don't mind going along.

Hope you're all enjoying your pancakes - I forgot to buy flour and milk -d'oh!

SpannerPants · 22/02/2012 08:03

I've been feeling like that too Truth - most of the time he's just wonderful and I can even put him down on his playgym for 10 mins at a time without him having a total meltdown anymore. I put him in his cot while I had a shower the other day, was 5 mins max and by the time I got out he'd fallen asleep by himself for the first time! Grin

He still hates the carseat, the pushchair and we're still cosleeping about half of the time well I try to sleep while he pulls my hair, scratches my face and pinches me but he's nowhere near as difficult challenging as he used to be!

Hope you all enjoyed the pancakes!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 22/02/2012 08:57

He woke up every hour from 7pm until 1am and wouldn't be settled without BFing last night. I eventually folded and got into the spare bed with him at 1 and slept reasonably soundly (topless so DS could help himself!) until DP came and took him at 5.30. Stil HN then?

Welcome! You can only join though if you provide us with reassuring stories about how wonderful and easy your previous HN DD is now. We need some light at the end of the tunnel.

Haha, ATruth, had a feeling you would have jinxed yourself with that earlier comment. DS was up every hour too. He is teething (again) and is very snotty. He is 8 and a half months old - when am I going to get some sleep for crying out loud?! Sad

DS up every 2 hours for the fourth night in a row, and won't settle without The Boob. Not as bad as every hour I know, but I am on my knees today. Got a nasty cough as well, which will be even more delightful when DS inevitably gets it. Ugh.

Queen I'm with you. When are we ever going to get any sleep?! I feel like I'm going insane. I'm really hoping that he's waking because of teething but it's so hard to know for sure.

He's had loads of poos and a bright red bum for the last few days so we've stopped all solids until he's better. Nothing in the bloody cupboards anyway

Welcome Joyful :)

Hi puddle hope the matchsticks n espresso are helping! I am in awe of the ladies who cope with older kids too, I know you just have to get on with it, but still.

Ds looked to be lining up for shannigans last night, but went to sleep at 1am. I didn't trust the wee man n decided to bring him in with me, where he slept til 5am Shock < massive engorged boobs emoticon>. I sneaked him into his cot after he had a feed, stirred again at 7am but went straight back to sleep til 9am Shock. admittedly I didn't sleep well cos of baby fidget bum so am on sofa under ds wishing for matchsticks now. Oh well.

Also in today's contrary tulip household, my mum (visiting from NI) looked me up and down and said 'your weight loss is going well'. Shock as I mentioned above, I've put weight on... Last nights pancakes won't have helped Grin

On the negative side, ds's nursing strike may be sore ears rather than teething Sad. trip to gp looming.

truth congrats!

Well I've realised that despite the perceived wisdom that if babies nap well during the day they sleep better at night that doesn't hold true for us! DS had a mammoth nap of three hours yesterday and his sleep tonight gas been awful. I didn't dare wake him from his nap though as it meant I could tidy the house and get dinner on. I know a 3 hour nap is very unusual but the days he has 2 lots of 45 mins he sleeps much better at night. Oh well my DS clearly hasn't read any of the books that's for sure.

Hope you're all getting more sleep than me!
