Does this sound like your baby?

  1. Feeds frequently daytime
  2. Feeds frequently nighttime
  3. Needs to be constantly held
  4. Wont sleep alone
  5. Hates the car seat/pram
  6. Short naps

If so - join the club! :)

Wow from reading this I realise that my 12 yo was HN and still is! Thankfully I'm finding 17 wo DD2 easier

JeewizzJen · 22/12/2011 05:30

Wow. DS's first ever sttn, with a 5 hour stretch from 7 til 12 then just one more feed at 3 until wake up around 5. I'm stunned! Maybe it has something to do with his first really proper dinner of carrot! :-D

SpannerPants · 22/12/2011 05:50

Yay JeeWizzJen Grin

tickleme63frenchhens · 22/12/2011 08:18

Yay Jen!

Teehee, our DS's have decided to surprise us this week haven't they?! (mine did his first 5.5 hour stretch on Monday night! :))

This morning DS woke at 6.50am for a feed, and what I thought was up for the day. After popping him into bed with DH and me, he promptly dropped back off to sleep! Bless him.

He's moved more towards every 3 hours it seems, at night, with a 4 hour stretch at the beginning of the night, which I'm really happy with compared to every 2 hours! Only problem is, DH and I keep waking up in the night (either to feed baby or just waking spontaneously) and are wide awake for ages! So not fair!

JeewizzJen · 22/12/2011 08:56

Haha yes - know what you mean about the waking - I was awake much more than DS last night! Most annoying!

Have you started your DS on solids tickle?

Mampig · 22/12/2011 09:40

Jen- that's great news!! Long may it last!!Grin

tickleme63frenchhens · 22/12/2011 09:50

Nah not yet, he's only just 5 months and don't think he's ready just yet. Hopefully holding out for 6 months... But it depends on when he shows us he's ready :)

Had 'the conversation' with DH last night about when to wean little man off the boob. I'm so bleeding torn on the issue. On one hand, I don't want to stop now we've come so far together - I was aiming for 6 months, now I don't think I'd mind a bit longer. But a little selfish part of me feels like I'm ready to stop. Some days I feel he would be happier with a bottle, as my flow is still so very fast that eating is a sprint rather than a marathon. Think a bottle (of EBM) might be a calmer alternative, but could be wrong about that. But other days I don't quite know what I'd do without the Boob.

Tis a toughy!

Mampig · 22/12/2011 10:57

You're right- a hard decision!!! Every time i think of what to do, I say I'll think about it again in a few weeks! Cos of my blocked duct, ds has been pulling on my nipple, so the lanisoh is back out! Times like this, I would be closer to giving up, but can't face any possible pain/ more blocked ducts or mastitis! So I'm still going, and will be for the forseeable!!! I'm hoping it will taper down enough in it's own time, that one or 2 feeds a day will be enough. He got more solids yesterday and less overall milk- and was very clingy to me in bed- needing to be close but not feeding. I felt so sorry for him- never thought he was so attached iykwim?

And out comes that guilt again!!!Blush

LittleWaveyLines · 22/12/2011 20:35

Hey you lovely people!

Sorry I've not been back for a while - have been trying to shake off the "high needs" label I'd put on my DD, in the hopes that it was all psychosomatic..... It didn't work though Grin

Anyway - since her tongue tie snip almost 2 weeks ago, she's been going almost 2 hours between feeds during the day, and 2-4 and occasionally 4.5 hours at night! If it's a coincidence, then it's a big coincidence! :)

Am hoping the next weighing will show she's gaining weight better now - at 6 months she's 2lb off double her birth weight, has slipped from middle of the 50th to middle of the 9th centile, and last month only put on 4 oz :(
Not that the "health visitor" seemed too worried about it, but I am.

So hope everyone is OK?

Mampig · 22/12/2011 22:13

Hey there- nice to see u back!! Ikwym- don't like labels either, but if shoe fits!!! Good days and bad days here, but weaning going well, and sleep is getting better too. Don't think it's an age thing tho, as the last bad night we had, he had very few solidsConfused. So I'm steaming ahead with weaning, as per medical advice, and he really lives his grub!! Glad all good now after snip, I don't think it's coincidence btw, and fwiw, I'm convinced my ds has TT, undiagnosedSad. Too late to do much about it though as where I live, they won't snip TT unless poor/no weight gain.

TitaniaP · 22/12/2011 22:31

LWL good to see you back. I know what you mean about the Weight gain DS is still a pound or so off doubling his birth weight and he's 27 weeks. Had TT snipped at 3 months but has never really made much difference. Hope it all gets much better for you now.

We've had a mixed week. It's lovely to have DP home but it disrupts what little routine we have.

We've been working on getting DS to sleep/nap somewhere other than on me this week. It's not easy, but I've had a few child free hours with DP in the evening which is all good.

LittleWaveyLines · 22/12/2011 22:32

Well the NHS wouldnt do it here either past 12 weeks - so had it done privately....

Glad the weaning is going well :)

SpannerPants · 23/12/2011 20:31

Hi everyone, well done baby LWL on the sleeping front Grin and hope everyone's prepared for Christmas!

I'm trying to get as much prepared tomorrow as possible so if DS decides to be clingy then DP can cook the dinner with me directing from the sofa. Just hope the inlaws don't get funny about BLW, MIL has been trying to get me to give him rusks since he was 12 weeks! He's only on one meal a day but has gone from disgust to loving it, he happily chews on carrot sticks and feeds himself porridge pretty accurately. Banana and cucumber haven't gone down so well but the faces he pulls are hilarious!

We've just come back from a couple of days visiting family and friends and he's been an absolute delight. I was worried he'd end up overstimulated and awful but he was really smiley and chatty and charmed everyone he met although my little sister didn't appreciate being woken up by him shouting at 5am

ATruthFestivelyAcknowledged · 25/12/2011 21:21

Merry Christmas!! Hope you've all had a lovely time and your babies haven't been too high need for the last few days Xmas Grin

tickleme63frenchhens · 26/12/2011 20:47

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas!

DS was very grizzly (teething) on Christmas day, hardly napped and got seriously overtired. He seems to have developed 2 new cries for me to decipher as well, he's finding his big boy voice all right!

Had to go to sis-in-laws today, and the traffic was atrocious - but after a little teething powder, DS slept like a dream and didn't fuss at all, even though we were in traffic jams for almost the whole way. He was such a smiley boy all day today too, wowed everybody in his little suit :) So proud

LittleWaveyLines · 27/12/2011 11:28

Hiya gals, hope you all ha merry ones! We are back home now after a few days at my parents' home. Was kind of nice, but kept getting the Hmm looks as I ran up and down the stairs all evening trying to get him off to sleep. A few mutterings from my mum about 'tough love' too. Felt a bit stronger about my choices this time round now so managed to grin through it.

Oddly enough my 87 year old nan surprised me by being all "plenty of time for routines, just let him be" and pro-BLW "mine were tucking into roast dinners by 8 months!"

Hope you all got lots of lovely presents!

QueenKong · 31/12/2011 19:16

Where is everyone? DS has been dreadful since we got back from our Xmas travels. Have all your babies shed their high needs over the festive period? Am I all alone? Waaaah...

SpannerPants · 31/12/2011 20:23

No such luck Queen - I had to cook Christmas dinner in short bursts between feeding and singing to/jiggling DS! He decided to have a nap in his bouncy chair just as it was ready so I got to eat though Grin he's learnt to sit unsupported since Christmas eve though so is slightly less frustrated than he was, and happy to amuse himself with his stacking cups for 5 minutes now.

JeewizzJen · 01/01/2012 07:31

Hi all, happy new year and all that! Still fun and games here with DS. We've had 2 teeth appear in the last couple of weeks which hasn't helped. Sleep has generally been crap except for last night which was pretty good, with a four hour, then three hour stretch before a bit more frequent wakings. Since starting solids he's definitely started feeding less at night, and shown me occasionally that he can sleep for longer, but he still does wake a lot despite not wanting food. I guess it's the teeth, and after 3am generally bum wind.
Anyhoo, let's hope 2012 is the year of sleep eh?

butternut234 · 01/01/2012 14:22

Gosh wish I'd seen that checklist at the start of your thread months ago - that was us to a tee, and I thought it was just us as no one else had a similar baby! Must let you know that as a toddler he is now adorable (though I cannot go and do something else even in same room for more than 1 minute ha ha...)

PS we too had the 1.5 hourly wakings until he was 15 months old, but to give you all hope I have to tell you he now (more or less) sleeps through the night and I didn't have to do controlled crying or even wean him (though I have now nightweaned him but he got to just waking once a night before that).

tickleme63 · 02/01/2012 10:08

Happy New Year, all :)

Hope you all had a fab time. DH and I were in bed by 10.30pm, just couldn't stay awake this year. DS is still drooling like anything and biting on everything in sight but still no sign of a tooth, poor fella. Some days he really seems to suffer, which is awful especially when (a) there's only so much you can do to try and help/soothe, and (b) you have no idea whether there's any relief in sight for him :(

He has been sleeping better though - last few days he's slept from 6.45/7pm to 10.30/11pm, fed, slept till 1.30/2.45am, fed, slept till 5/5.30am, fed, and then slept till 7/8am. Only problem is that I feel a million times worse with the extra bit of sleep! Its funny how used to no sleep your body gets over 5 months!

I think he might be on the cusp of rolling too

tickleme63 · 02/01/2012 10:09

Ooo I meant 1.30/1.45am...

LittleWaveyLines · 02/01/2012 17:11

Hey Tickleme and Jen - brilliant news!

Well my now 6 month DD started doing 3-4 hour stretches following her tongue tie snip - for about 2 weeks. Since then she's had a cold, swiftly followed by THE COLD - really rotten and I've had it as well and felt ruddy awful, poor little mite.
So you can imagine - not much sleep going on here, and lots of whinging and clinginess... and that's just me! Grin

Happy New Year all xx
