Does this sound like your baby?

  1. Feeds frequently daytime
  2. Feeds frequently nighttime
  3. Needs to be constantly held
  4. Wont sleep alone
  5. Hates the car seat/pram
  6. Short naps

If so - join the club! :)

Well lo was sleeping well till 4 months then he suddenly started waking every 2 hours! apparently it's something to do with them realising that they are a seperate person to you.

Last night he'd have a feed I'd put him down and he'd immediately wake up to be fed again. That could be the 4 month growth spurt. Did that most of the night.
How can someone so small be so complicated?
My lo is currently sleeping in the sling.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 02/12/2011 16:07

Wow!! Has anyone tried a recording of a hairdryer to help LOs sleep? Best 59p I've ever spent. LO went down after about three seconds just now Grin

Bell, that is exactly what LO is doing at the moment. Eventually I stopped trying to put him back in his cot last night and just kept him curled up next to me. I thought it was because he was cold (he usually prefers his own space once he's actually gone to sleep) but maybe he just needed a bit of reassuring.

bell31 · 02/12/2011 16:19

I'm going to try my lo in his grobag again tonight. Didn't like it the first time I used it.

JeewizzJen · 02/12/2011 17:58

Evening all, and welcome to the newcomers!

Mampig, hope you're doing ok, I meant to send some of those un-mumsnet hugs but got sidetracked by my screaming child!

Early night for both me and DS tonight, his napping has been shite so he's shattered, and I'm... just shattered. Smile

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 02/12/2011 18:18

Can I have a 'Whoop whoop?' DS just went to sleep with no screaming. None. At. All. Whooooooooooooop!!!!!

I suspect he'll wake up as soon as I sit down with my tea, but still, whoooop!

JeewizzJen · 02/12/2011 18:31

Whoop whoop! Was that with the aid of the hairdryer CD? Brilliant either way, fingers crossed you get your tea too!

DS is now asleep next to me... can't decide whether to sneak downstairs where DP and visiting DS are watching a DVD, or just stay here and read until I doze off, which probably won't take long!

Tomorrow we have a family photoshoot. Be interesting to see what DS does ...

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 02/12/2011 18:40

No! I was just gently reaching over to get my phone and put the 'hairdryer' on while he was feeding when he rolled off me, gave a little smile, wriggled for about three seconds, let out a satisfied sigh and fell asleep Shock

Ah, the photoshoot will be interesting! Just remember you'll have a story to tell his first girlfriend no matter how he looks ('yes, this is DS having a strop... he did it often when he was a baby...')

Queenkongmerrilyonhigh · 02/12/2011 19:17

Oh my god Truth, that's the dream!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 02/12/2011 19:20

And what a wonderful dream it was... Until he woke up SCREAMING after 45 mins. Still, I got my tea Grin

Mampig · 02/12/2011 20:26

Evening all!! Thanks for all the tea and sympathy and arm punches!!

De-nitting done for now- have to do it all over again in a week, but will comb every night in betweenAngry
Took ds to gp and he has red throat. Gave me AB to start on Sunday if no better. Does anyone know if it could give him thrush??-last thing we need!!

So am tired (with everyone else!!) but having family tv night so can't go to bed just yet, ds is upstairs sleeping for now, so for first time today, I'm actually sitting down!!!
Hope u all have restful nights!!

TitaniaP · 02/12/2011 20:43

Loving the new username QK!

This evening has reminded me how far we'd come since DS was a newborn. He's so grumpy with his cough/cold that he's screamed much of the evening. DH and I are alternating. He goes over DHs shoulder for a bit whilst DH does the Dad dance (and gets snot and dribble down his back). When that stops working I shove a boob in his mouth. The first 3 months were like that every night! He's slept loads today and now he's not looking sleepy at all. Just grumpy!

Doc said that his chest is clear and he doesn't have a temp so just need to wait for it to clear. He's struggling to feed now though 'cos he's so full of snot. Deep joy.
Atruth- good news about your sleeping DS, shame it only lasted 45 mins, but hey it's s start.

Wishing you all sweet dreams!

tickleme63 · 02/12/2011 21:19

Evening all,

Little man had another bottle this evening. I pumped some milk for him and assumed he would take it as it had literally just come 'from source' - but he refused it until we heated it up a bit more. What a fusspot! So grateful that he's taken to it though. Now I just need to try and set aside some time every day to express milk. Am thinking it will have to be an evening thing as I can't imagine being able to double pump and hold DS at the same time! I'm just not that dextrous!

Hoping you all have good evenings/nights. DS is in his brand new Woombie, seems to like it! Looks very comfy and snug, think we'll have to get Mega Baby size if he outgrows it before he's rolling... Can't believe the size of him now... He was 4lb 13oz at birth, and was 16lb 8oz at last weigh-in at the beginning of November. Am beyond proud that it's all thanks to booby! All hail the booby!

Queenkongmerrilyonhigh · 02/12/2011 21:33

Fanks tickleme needed that .

DS has been a little monkey tonight. Typical. Heaven forbid we get three good nights in a row. DH decreed tonight we should do CC because (and I quote) "you can't handle this any longer." Right, so it'll all be my fault when he cries himself to sleep. I then asked DH what he thought CC was. He didn't really have an answer. Then DS let out a little moan and DH sprinted up the stairs to him. Quel tit.

Queen- loving your sense of humourGrinGrin

JeewizzJen · 03/12/2011 06:07

Shit, shitty night.

Started ok , DS went off nicely at around 6.30 and was feeding every hour & half to 2 hours until 2am when he woke and that was that. He did actually try to get back to sleep for about an hour so we stayed in bed, but he just kept getting to that drop off point and then would wiggle awake! That happened 4 times at which point he got hacked off so I got up and rocked him til 4, then handed him to DP til 5 at which point I admitted defeat and brought him downstairs in an attempt to wear him out. He's finally just gone at 6. We've been up since 2am. Waaaaa.

I best try and snooze now too...

tickleme63 · 03/12/2011 09:58

Oh Jee, sending hugs and lots of zzzz's your way.

buttonmoon78 · 03/12/2011 10:07

Morning all! Haven't had the time to read everyone's posts Blush

DS is absolutely covered in eczema and really loves being slathered in sticky hydrocortisone ointment twice a day - not. It hopefully will get better if we avoid fruit and stick with the ointment but it is really dreadful at the moment.

Reflux wise, we're back on omeprazole which is easier to get into him now he's taking some solids - he had parsnip last night and loooved it! We're still on domperidone and we've introduced gaviscon back into the mix. Unfortunately the combination of gaviscon and nutramigen is too much for the size 2 teats to cope with on his Dr Brown's bottles so I went out and bought a full set of size 3s last night only to find that it's too much for them too Hmm Am going to take the unopened two packs back today and swap for the size 4 in the hope that it works! So we've been using his old Tommee Tippee bottles overnight which let the milk through but aren't much good for his wind. Ho hum. It's like two steps forward and one step back Sad

On the upside, I also bought a little treat last night - Michael Buble's Christmas album - I just love him! It's made me feel all Christmassy and hopeful that things can and will be enjoyable again at some point in the future. Maybe!

Virtual coffees, cake, chocolate (dairy-free if required), wine (in the fridge for after lunchthis evening), arm punches/hugs to all who need them Smile

buttonmoon78 · 03/12/2011 10:08

Grr - in the fridge for after lunch this evening

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 03/12/2011 10:31

I'm focusing on the positives...
1 - The virtual horlicks was delicious. Thanks tickle
2 - DS fell asleep with NO screaming & I got to eat my tea, hot, in one sitting
3 - After multiple wake ups/feeds throughout the evening, he eventually fell back to sleep by settling himself, in his cot for about three hours
4 - After a feed he slept for another two hours
5 - We didn't have to actually get up with him until 6am (and DP did that)
I'll glaze over the bits in between!

Sending arm punches, Brew and Biscuit to Jen, Button and anyone else in need.

Queen - DP also regularly spouts 'We should just let him cry it out' and sees to think it's my fault DS cries so much as I 'mollycoddle' him Hmm The one night we did try CC I found him lying on the bed next to DS playing on his iPad - "I just couldn't leave him"

JeewizzJen · 03/12/2011 10:52

Thanks all :)

Out of interest, how old are your high needs DCs? Sometimes I read stuff that people are doing etc and wonder if it relates to us, or whether they're older/younger.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 03/12/2011 11:56

Mine's almost four months old. We didn't really 'try' anything until he was three months as we are wimps and we hoped he'd just fall into a natural pattern. If there's a 'next time' I'll swaddle & use the hairdryer from birth.

Queenkongmerrilyonhigh · 03/12/2011 12:17

DS will be 6 months next week. Ditto Truth - think we cocked up majorly by not swaddling. But was worried about him overheating.

Can I have some advice for next weekend please ladies? It's my mum and dad's anniversary party at their house. They have about 50 people coming from 6pm onwards. Do I try and get him to sleep upstairs and spend the whole party up there with him? Or do I let him stay up and whinge? My brother's little girl will be there (9mo) who sleeps 7-7. So am going to look like a terrible parent in comparison. Which I probably am.

TitaniaP · 03/12/2011 12:28

Mine is 5 1/2 months. We've not really tried any sort of routine yet, but think we will over Christmas. I'd like him out of my bed if I'm honest - DH will be off over Christmas so can help with night wakings!!

We've had the worst night ever. He's so full of cold he's struggling to breathe & feed. His cough is horrid and I've just not been able to settle him. He's also got a upset stomach!

He's either asleep or screaming at the moment. His eyes are red and puffy from crying and his nose is red from the constant streaming. He's asleep on my lap at the moment. Am not moving!

We are supposed to be going to a christening tomorrow. Not sure I can face leaving the house!
