Does this sound like your baby?

  1. Feeds frequently daytime
  2. Feeds frequently nighttime
  3. Needs to be constantly held
  4. Wont sleep alone
  5. Hates the car seat/pram
  6. Short naps

If so - join the club! :)

Mine is coming up for 5 months.

D'you think it's too late to swaddle then ladies? We've reintroduced it here because of the little one's flailing arms, and that plus dummy seems to help him go off. Obviously no good if your babas are rolling, but Woombies come in sizes for bigger/older babies.

Doesn't make him wake up for feeds any less (why would it, i guess!) but just being able to get him down at a decent hour is enough for me!

bell31 · 03/12/2011 13:50

I tjhought all babies were suppose to like grobags? Mine seems to sleep worse in it!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 03/12/2011 13:53

Not too late Tickle no, I just wish I'd discovered it sooner. It calms him almost instantly! I'd never heard of a woombie until this thread. Are they good?

QueenKong - surely the only answer is that you hand DS to doting grandparents as soon as you arrive and leave it to them? I recently went to a smiliar party (also with a good sleeping older cousin) but wasn't allowed near DS anyway as there were so many cooing relatives! FWIW - they were all impressed with his 'spirit' Wink

Titania - do you have to go? Could DH take LO so you can have a rest? Or use the cold as an excuse and all hole up together?

JeewizzJen · 03/12/2011 14:06

I forgot to say, my DS has just turned 5 months. So looks like many of them are pretty similar ages!

tickleme63 · 03/12/2011 15:52

Truth I only came across them while looking for swaddled for bigger babies, as DS outgrew his Miracle Blanket. They are pretty cool - it's semi-tight, as in they can move their arms around a little inside the swaddle but not enough to wake them up, if that makes sense?

They zip up at the front like a little peapod, and are made of a nice stretchy fabric. We got ours from Amazon (but only because we had our hearts set on the dinosaur pattened one, and the official site didn't have the size we wanted!

As an aside, I just had a lovely hot bath! DH has taken Baby Tickle for a stroll to the post office so I could have a little break, bless :) Now sitting here waiting for their return all clean and smelling lovely and stuffing my face with biscuits

SpannerPants · 03/12/2011 16:12

Hello ladies, hope you're all ok.

I'm shattered and feeling sorry for myself. I've got a cold and feel rubbish and while DS doesn't seem to have it yet he's being even fussier than usual and fed every 2hrs last night Hmm and won't be put down at all. I even hoovered the house with him in the sling this morning and put my back out

JeewizzJen · 03/12/2011 16:15

Afternoon girls

Titania really hope your DS feels better soon, its just horrible when they're ill :-(

Tickle that bath sounds like heaven! I was really lucky yesterday, managed to leave DS with DP to get a massage!!! Feckin lovely it was too, shame it couldn't be followed by a great night's sleep, but hey, can't have everything!

Today we went for our photo shoot. I was fully expecting disaster as I had to wake DS to get there on time and it was all a mad rush to get out the door. But miraculously it went really well with all 4 of the kids present behaving beautifully. DS even managed to be an angel during the following lunch in sainaburys cafe despite being very much due a nap. He seemed to be very entertained by the shiny xmas decorations! Perhaps I ought to get them up in the house! (Still feels early to me!)

Hows everyone been?

Queenkongmerrilyonhigh · 03/12/2011 18:28

We are ok. DH suddenly got manically busy at work so not only didn't manage to take yesterday off, was also working til 9pm every night. So have not had a minutes break in 4 days. He's home now though and giving Prince Kong his bath. I'm laying on the bed, preparing myself for the evening onslaught of whinging/feeding/complaining etc. Sigh...

JeewizzJen · 03/12/2011 18:32

Oh no Queen, that's rubbish. Horrible when you thought you'd get an unexpected extra break only to have it taken away :( Fingers crossed tonight's a good one for you.

Funny though, it must be that time of night - DP is also bathing DS and I'm currently awaiting the same as you...!!

tickleme63 · 03/12/2011 19:14

Ooo ta for the chocs!

Hugs to Spanner, Queen and Jen, with an extra spesh back massage for Spanner! I know how you feel lady, my back is shitting killing me - wore DS in the mei tai much of the early afternoon to get him to nap. Was bloody tough, he gets so tired and grizzly but can't stop looking round at everything. I then, out of desperation, shoved a blanket over both our heads to block everything out, and off to sleep he went!

Hope your nights go well ladies, sending lots of zzz's your way!

Mampig · 03/12/2011 21:25

Hello all!!! This thread moves fast!! Glad most are feeling a little betterSmile. My ds is just over 5 months now too!! Thankfully upstairs sleeping in his crib, gave me enough time to do a home hair colour- thanks dh!!! So now waiting on him to waken for next feed- any minute now....

Also missing LWL- where are u- hope alls ok!

Zzzzzzz to all for tonight, it's wine o'clock fir meGrinGrin, a glass before bed, cos I got my Xmas decorations up todayGrin, and ds just loves them!!

buttonmoon78 · 04/12/2011 05:56

SIT DOWN LADIES!

I have just had 6.5 hours unbroken sleep and DS managed 8.5!!! Shock

He refused his parsnip at 4.30 (though I managed to get him to take enough for his omeprazole down, refused any more milk after 3.30 and went to bed at 6.30 in disgust at life. He woke at 8 so I thought 'here' we go! Took 5oz without blinking, had a little play and then took the other 1oz before going back to bed at 8.30! I went at 10.30 assuming it would be not long at all before he joined me and he woke just before 5!! There is hope!

However, having changed his size 3 teats to size 4, we came home and tried them and he drowned. So I re-tried the size 3 that on Friday night caused such indignation and.... oh yes, they're just fine mum. I like these ones! So we're back off to Mothercare again today to get yet more size 3s Hmm

Sounds like I need to get my decorations up and leave them up all year Grin

Hugs to whoever needs them. Sounds like there are quite a lot of us who do Sad

Oh, and ds was 20wks yesterday so about 4.5m?

buttonmoon78 · 04/12/2011 06:02

BTW - is anyone finding this thread really slow? Every time I type a post here it takes ages for the characters to appear on screen and catch up with my typing but not with other threads Confused

Is it because each one of the posts is a long tale of woe post therefore the thread is big despite being only 500 and something?

JeewizzJen · 04/12/2011 06:52

Oh my god button, that is fantastic! You must feel so refreshed, I'm so pleased for you!

We had a very up and down night, literally. I thought we were getting up for good at 4 but somehow managed to coax him back to sleep on my chest where he stayed for about 30 mins. I then came downstairs but left it dark and he managed to sleep til 6 :) No sign of a poo til 6 either which is good news for future nights if it continues!

Queenkongmerrilyonhigh · 04/12/2011 07:51

Morning all. Baby Kong was pretty much an angel last night, well for him anyway - it's all relative I guess. Down at 7, up briefly at 10, 2 (poo), 5 then dozed and snacked til 7. My sleep however was disturbed by a very vivid nightmare in which I was imprisoned in a large house by Greg Wallace from Masterchef. Every time I tried to escape through a room, his dimply, grinning face would be gurning at me from the otherside of the door. Was most sinister.

Congrats buttonmoon! That's really great news!

JeewizzJen · 04/12/2011 08:12

Haha queen! Well, part laugh part shudder at your dream. I can see how that would be pretty scary!

A question for you...when your DS poos in the night and you change him, do you find it hard to get him back to sleep? I have had no luck with that!

I seem to be poo-in-the-night obsessed at the moment Blush

Queenkongmerrilyonhigh · 04/12/2011 08:20

It depends on what time it is. Before 4am, I can usually feed him back off again pretty quickly. After 4am, and we might as well get up for the day!

tickleme63 · 04/12/2011 09:25

Wow, nice one Button! Hope indeed!

DS managed a 4-hour stretch last night; from 6.30 to 10.30 (we put him to bed early after his bath as his napping had been even more atrocious than normal). He then fed, slept till 1.30, fed, changed, slept till 4, fed, slept till 5.30, and then after popping his dummy back in, he slept till 7. So not bad at all! Although why is it that when you finally get some sleep you wake up feeling worse?!

His skin is starting to feel much softer now as well. Still those stubborn red itchy patches but they are softening too, yay. It's such a mission trying to get his cream on without him somehow managing to transfer some to his mouth! I need another pair of hands...

Happy Sunday, y'all! DS is 20 weeks today!

ATruthFestivelyAcknowledged · 04/12/2011 09:59

Wowza! 6.5 hours sleep?!! Go Button! (And I wonder if the thread is as tired as we are and that's why it takes so long?)

I just laughed so much about QueenKong's dream that my niece asked me if I was on the Cbeebies website. Bless. I might have to check it out if it's that funny.

Jen, not sure if you've already tried this (and DP calls it 'playing with fire' as he expects one of us to get wee-ed on in the night soon) but i've started keeping a supply of nappies and wipes in the cot and if DS needs a change overnight I do it in his cot in as little light as possible rather than take him to the bathroom which always wakes him up. Thankfully he usually saves his explosive poos for the daytime - not sure if would work if your LO is making a right mess!

I'm still clinging to the successes (self settling, less screamy) and ignoring the fact that LO's longest sleep last night was an hour and 20 mins. Urgggghhhhh

Have a good day all Smile

buttonmoon78 · 04/12/2011 18:25

Oh man he's made me pay for it though today! 30min naps at most. Screaming when fed. Screaming when not fed. Screaming when dirty. Screaming when not dirty. Are you spotting a theme? Wink

He's also got a new trick - pulling his dummy out. I'll not mind so much when he masters putting it back in again!

Right. Off to begin bedtime. Been wanting to since about lunchtime Grin

JeewizzJen · 05/12/2011 10:03

Morning ladies. How are we all?

DS woke pretty much hourly for milk last night - thank god we're cosleeping is all I can say. At 2.30 he decided it was time to wake for a whinge so I had to get up and rock him until he settled - 45 mins... we ended up with him sleeping on my again for the rest of the night which I don't really mind. Up at 5.30.

I think I'm going to start trying him on solids this week, he's definitely showing signs, not least the constant milk demands. Please god let it mean he'll sleep better

TitaniaP · 05/12/2011 10:50

Jen - hope the solids work. I had started trying my DS but since he's had this cough he gags and throws everything back up. Will try again when the cough goes.

We had a mixed night. Not too many wakings but all of them accompanied by screams. DH got up and paced with him at 1.30 and I feel guilty as he left the house before 6 this morning and has a two hour drive to get to where he's working today.

At 6.30 DS woke and screamed constantly til. 7.30 when he passed out on my shoulder. I brought him back to bed and he woke up at 10 as did I .

So although I could do without the screaming the extra sleep was very nice.

His cough/cold shows no sign of abating, his nappies are horrendous and we now have nappy rash to add to the mix.

I have stupidly invited a whole load of people over for Christmas drinks/nibbles on Saturday. We do it every year but haven't tried to do it with a baby before. At least there'll be plenty of people to hold DS while I rush around frantically trying to get mince pies out of the oven... What have I let myself in for?? I think I'll just buy as much as possible ready made this year!

buttonmoon78 · 05/12/2011 11:09

Morning!

Had a bad evening - took 2 hours to settle him off but then he woke at 10 and 3.30 for feeds. He did wake a bit at about 5.30 but came into our bed and dozed on and off til 6.30. What a result!

Two good nights does not a habit make, but it does raise my hopes that one day I will sleep through the night again!

Titania I think you're nuts! Get thee to Sainsbury's or Marks and buy buy buy Grin

ATruthFestivelyAcknowledged · 05/12/2011 12:00

Titania - two words: online shopping!

Button - glad you're getting more sleep. I'm v jealous, but you're showing there's light at the end of this tunnel.

Jen - my night was similar to yours. Ugh. Loads of wakings. I'm starting to suspect they're because of teething rather than hunger though so am going to start keeping the bonjela next to my bed. I hope you get a chance to catch up.

LWL - where are you? Is everything okay?

Right, LO's just dropped off. I'm off to blitz the house. Having mil to stay was a great help, but now there's a lot of housework to catch up on!

TitaniaP · 05/12/2011 12:01

Button - glad you had a good night after an awful day. I have taken your advice and done an online shop for lots of nice things to eat next weekend!
