Is anyone else terrified by the popularity of Reform UK?

I am. I feel like it's indicative of sentiment that is really bad for me and my family.

I know that they are unlikely to win many seats but the fact that so many people will consider voting for racists is not a good sign.

Yes some of the Reform supporters are a bit lulu and are racist but Nigel Farage has stated he wants nothing to do with that. Take with that what you want

He would say that, though.
He's not going to admit being overtly racist.

Even though he is.

This is the Black MNetters Board.

What so white people have to ask if it’s ok that they post on here??

More concerned about what has just happened in France.
People are sheep!

No, that is not the case at all. Was there something that you actually wanted to talk about?

PortiasBiscuit · 04/07/2024 13:00

TheShellBeach · 04/07/2024 12:56

It's respectful.

Does that make the rest of MN only for white people then?
Honestly, it never occurred to me (white, middle class labour voter ) that there were restrictions on where I could post in MN.
and I am terrified by the rise of the right across the whole of this hemisphere frankly.

LadyKenya · 04/07/2024 13:01

I personally would not go onto Muslim MN for example, just to make a pointed remark, and add nothing of value to what is actually being discussed.

Neither would I.
Likewise I wouldn't go on to Jewish MNetters and announce that I was a denier of the holocaust.

Gosh no. Just why would anyone think that would be appropriate? I do wonder about people, sometimes.🤔 Never mind, the sun is trying to shine, tennis is on the television, and it is polling day😁🎾.

They may not have won the seats but the sheer number of votes Reform got in such a short amount of time has really spooked me.

It's horrifying that so many people are willing to vote for racist bigots.

Nobody should have to ask anyone where they can post!!!!! It’s absolutely ridiculous!

When you are reading through posts and see that white people are continually asking if it’s ok if they post then yes, we have every right to comment! No one should have to ask!

Then take it up with the white people asking rather than trying to derail a discussion between black women about how they feel about the rise of the far right...

I do not agree.

When I, very occasionally, post on a board which has been set up by MNHQ for a very specific and already marginalised and oppressed group of people (in particular - this board, Jewish MNetters and Muslim MNetters) I would not dream of starting a pointless argument about where I am entitled, or even welcome, to post.

I am aware that as a white Christian woman, born in this country and well educated, I am privileged.

Nobody should come on to any of the three boards I've mentioned, unless they are willing to be absolutely respectful.

TheShellBeach · 05/07/2024 17:43

And I'm sorry if I've further derailed your thread, @NewNameNigel

Rubbish! You should be respectful no matter what board you are posting on! You make problems when you start treating people so differently!

Hi @Milsie892

As we do with users who are new to this part of the talk forum, we’d like to point you in the direction of https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/black_mumsnetters/4024964-Black-Mumsnetters-a-new-section which explains why we introduced it.

In a nutshell, it was decided that there are sensitivities and common experiences that Black MNers will find easier to talk about in a dedicated space.

The board exists primarily for the use of black Mumsnetters. While other posters are welcome to use it, please be respectful and mindful that this is a ‘safe space’ for those posters. While some may be happy to answer questions on race, others may not and it’s not their responsibility to educate on these issues.

With that in mind, please do be mindful of our Talk Guidelines when posting - and as always, if you see any posts that concern you, please report them directly to MNHQ.
Peace and love.

Absolutely not! I believe there should be boards for everyone but they should be inclusive! No one should have to ask permission to post. Nobody should feel uncomfortable to post and nobody should feel they are the wrong colour to post! I never came on here to create an argument but I believe when you segregate specific groups then that causes problems.

Nigel Farage is a very dangerous manipulative man who knows exactly what to say to rile up a particular type of person who is very dangerous to black people. He does this all while appearing reasonable.
