Is anyone else terrified by the popularity of Reform UK?

I am. I feel like it's indicative of sentiment that is really bad for me and my family.

I know that they are unlikely to win many seats but the fact that so many people will consider voting for racists is not a good sign.

Exactly. Even if they don't get seats, the split in the vote will make other parties create more right leaning policies to capture those votes.
Plus any success will make people more bold.
My friend got loads of comments after Brexit in her most Leave area.

As a black woman I'm extremely worried. Not necessarily for this this election, but long term. I'm of the belief that wealth inequality is the thing that needs to change and only the Green Party has anything in their manifesto to tackle that.
Once people see that no significant change is happening under Labour I think the voting will get more extreme.

You’re bang on there - look at how some Tories have said they would welcome Farage into the party.

To people talking rubbish about supporting Reform because it’s okay to want to focus on immigration and ignoring its racist roots I’ll say good for you.

RubyWinehouse · 03/07/2024 21:47

Not at all, because I follow independent news channels so get the truth and not the biased stuff that the MSN channels churn out. Both Channel 4 and BBC have tried to hinder Reforms chance in the election, Channel 4 used an actor posing as a Reform campaigner and the BBC planted people in the audience on Question Time to try to discredit Reform. The largest donation to Reform came from the multi millionaire Zia Yousuf, plus many of the candidates are different ethnicities and religions, so I am not concerned, or brainwashed

The undercover video showing reform canvassers is sickening. The way they were talking about people was disgraceful. I cannot say that I am easily shocked, but what that man said to the paramedic was chilling.

You do know that this man Andrew Parker is a well spoken actor that has "rough speaking" on his profile, who isn't an actual campaigner? Reform have pressed charges against Channel 4.

Ill try and help reclaim the thread. I walked down the street next to mine, three houses proudly displaying vote reform in their windows. One of them works in the same industry as my white husband, so we chat . I'm ashamed to say I didn't want to have conversations, I don't want to get into conflict about the colour of my skin, it was traumatic enough as a child.
The local Facebook group lets posts stand like 'Labour don't care for the white working class' like there is only white working class, no other, and colour of skin matters.
I can't believe people just believe what gets fed to them by Farage and his cronies.

Edited

Thanks @Max28W@Max28W, it's hard enough without white women coming on and telling us that we should, in fact, be happy about the popularity of the far right.

I completely understood not even wanting to have the conversation. I think white people see it as an abstract debate because it doesn't affect them.

From what I can see there is no evidence that Channel 4 paid him benyond Farage saying so. If you have any please feel free to post it...

@NewNameNigel - as I say, NF is a charlatan.
He’s very skilled at making baseless claims and knows that you just need to get the message out there. Say it loud and clear and it will land somewhere.

The actor claim is laughable but of course people fell for it.

Orange man is excellent at it too.

@PandoraSox - you can’t possibly expect us to accept Ofcom’s findings, they’re part of the establishment.

NewNameNigel · 04/07/2024 00:27

Unsurprisingly Ofcom investigated and dismissed the claim. Funny that @RubyWinehouse didn't know this, what with all her research on independent news channels that let her get to the truth.....

Sorry - I hope I am ok to post on this due to being white. Apologies if not

Are you serious? Asking permission to comment because you are white???

I want the Tories out. This doesn't mean that I want live in a country with lots of people willing to vote for a far right party like Reform.

That's democracy for you, can't stop people voting for who they want to represent them. Unpalatable as it may be, it's probably best these views are aired. Clearly letting them fester underground has only made the problems worse when they erupt.

Luckily you have a choice which country you live in. I'm planning to move outside of Europe as I can see the way the wind is blowing...and if you think that's dramatic or nothing will change that much, I believe in the next ten years you'd be wrong.

cantgetmybreath · 04/07/2024 02:38

At the moment I live abroad. I have always planned to return once I have got where I want to get career wise and as my parents age and will need more help.
Conservatives labour Lib Dems whoever is in would not effect that decision. If reform were in power I wouldn't return. I expect most of their supporters would be pleased about that tbh.

FastQuoter · 04/07/2024 03:43

I think the fact that many of you are saying you are 'terrified' and 'worried' about the possibility of Reform getting into government shows just how well the mainstream media have set the narrative.

Any party in the West that is remotely conservative, traditional and seeks to favour it's citizens is automatically classed as far-right. 😴China has done this, and it's population is thriving, cities are booming. Poverty levels are decreasing. Not without it's negatives but much better than the UK IMO (I've studied and worked there).

What I admire about the Reform is that they're the only party that are pledging to support more stay at home mothers! They understand the need for stability in the home both emotionally and financially. Compared to the Tories and Labour, with Reform I can at least see my household being better off (even if just 10% of their policies get implemented).

Yes some of the Reform supporters are a bit lulu and are racist but Nigel Farage has stated he wants nothing to do with that. Take with that what you want.

Immigration:- We thank God for the possibility to move around, it's what allowed my parents to migrate here decades ago! I feel like the Tories have opened the floodgates however to just anyone and not individuals and families that will bring productivity to the country and are willing to ASSIMILATE. Come on think about it, if I was living in Nigeria and people who have no care to integrate into my culture and way of living, but instead do crime and laze about, I would not be happy. Please be honest with yourself. The country has gone DOWNHILL, life was so much rosier when I was younger over a decade ago. So many young people are leaving the country. I don't think Labour will make it better, but we'll see. Immigration needs to be managed properly and it hasn't which has caused a supply and demand issue in terms of housing and other things.

Thank you very much.

BCBird · 04/07/2024 04:11

Very worrying. Heard Ann Widdecombe on.radio. Sounded credible. If u had not heard the first part of introduction stating she was part of Reform, u might have thought, this woman is talking sense. Air of respectability. Very Very worrying.

themoonishotthesuniscold · 04/07/2024 05:37

Terrified. Listening to what is happening in France with Marie La Pen's party and the rise of the far right in Europe terrifies me. You'd think it would act as a cautionary tale but seemingly no.

themoonishotthesuniscold · 04/07/2024 05:40

Also I'm assuming that most people on here commenting in favour of Reform and similar parties aren't Muslim because these parties are openly Islamophobic.

Why do you think that a Black woman may be worried about the fact that racism seems to be on the rise. Would you ask a Jewish woman why she would be worried about a rise in anti-semitism?

I’m also horrified. It feels like since Brexit people have become emboldened to say out loud some truly horrible things.

I’m white - but I am also the granddaughter of an immigrant. I hope it’s ok to post here and offer my solidarity.

Same here.
