Is anyone else terrified by the popularity of Reform UK?

I am. I feel like it's indicative of sentiment that is really bad for me and my family.

I know that they are unlikely to win many seats but the fact that so many people will consider voting for racists is not a good sign.

Can you explain to me what about it is racist? The person saying racist things undercover as reform was said to be an actor who had nothing to do with them.

This is exactly what I mean. I don't want to spend my energy explaining. People of colour and anti-racists have done this dance many times before , it's boring.

People should just admit to being racist, and then I can just tell them to fuck off. No need to get all intellectual and debate things, pretending to like and respect each other.

They hate me because I'm Black, I hate them because they are racist 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

Is this thread a joke?
Wanting to stop the boat-loads of non-essential illegal migrants coming into the country for the surefire reasons of being able to claim benefits, housing, grants and NHS access is not at all racist.
Whilst millions of our workers will be much better off by the £20k income tax threshold change, meaning a more prosperous life for our families.

I can understand and sympathise why you would assume that if you have experienced so much racism before, but It’s really, incredibly, rude of you to assume I’m a racist and call me a racist, because I asked you what about reform is racist when the only proof of it is a video of someone pretending to be them and saying something racist. I don’t care what colour anyone is

TheButteredBiscuit · 28/06/2024 13:41

Stop making baseless accusations

'prosperous' because of the tax threshold going to £20k? That's literally only something like £1600 less tax a year

Crikeyalmighty · 28/06/2024 14:06

Farage has promised the moon on a stick - very very easy to do that when you know you won't be in power but it should be enough to get you quite a few seats including his own- where is all the money coming from for these massive personal allowances when he has never seen the books ? It doesn't matter to him because he won't be in power- I'm amazed the Lib Dem's didn't get in on this little wheeze years ago!

Crikeyalmighty · 28/06/2024 14:10

@PerfectYear321 might just be enough to cover off your new health insurance bills if you are lucky! Or those things you will need to pay for privately as he will have cut any public services to next to zero. What tosh people latch onto

Amisilli · 28/06/2024 14:11

I made the mistake of reading the comments today in the Daily Mail!!! silly move I know.
It seems like they have a lot of support hopefully these are bots, keyboard warriors and it won't translate into votes.

That is all uncosted pie in the sky flannel. Reform UK Ltd can promise anything as it has no chance of having to keep those promises.

The irony is just astounding.

This thread isn't discussing what's costed and what's not in each political party's manifesto. Please, you can say the same to ALL the parties.
The point is about someone shouting racism without cause, factual evidence or proof.

Ooo I'm so sorry that £1600 is just pocket change to you.
For a family of two workers, that £3200 is going to help pay towards a lot of our ever increasing bills!

TheButteredBiscuit · 28/06/2024 11:51

I don’t think they’re racist, it’s not about skin colour.

Why have they attracted so many racists as candidates?

Croupie · 28/06/2024 15:06

NewNameNigel · 25/06/2024 11:56

While I think the government bears a lot of responsibility I think it speaks to your husband's character that his idea of a protest is to vote along with racists.

There are racists in Reform. There are also anti-semites in the Labour Party. Doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone who supports them is racist or anti-Semitic.

Do you think being against mass immigration is intrinsically racist? I think it can be driven by racism but it can equally be driven by concerns about resources, integration etc. Surely importing 6 million people to prop up a cheap-labour-based economy (resulting in a per capita drop in GDP and as a consequence insufficient resource to provide healthcare, housing and education) ought to be questioned?

A lot of middle class people dismiss reform voters as stupid gammon (itself a pretty bigoted viewpoint) but the middle classes are insulated from our government’s terrible immigration and economic policy and don’t have the empathy to understand how it might affect poorer people.

NewNameNigel · 25/06/2024 12:08

I guess I feel like it seems like people get frustrated and anyone who isn't white British is seen as collateral damage. Can any other black women relate to this feeling?

Unfortunately we’re the scapegoats. All the problems in the UK have been blamed on immigrants and immigration for so long that it’s become a normal opinion to hold.

I was born here, but my family is originally from the Caribbean. I am visibly black and have been racially abused multiple times.

People are only getting bolder and I can’t see it getting better anytime soon.

Maggiethecat · 28/06/2024 20:10

cupcaske123 · 28/06/2024 14:53

Why have they attracted so many racists as candidates?

when people tell you who they are you should believe them.

they have attracted openly racist candidates because their views align. simple as that.

now NF is trying the Trump playbook- the Andrew Parker recorded racism is a set up.

so, any alleged racism of Reform candidates/members/supporters will be dismissed as the old banter or a set up. nice.

Maggiethecat · 28/06/2024 20:31

He’s on the Question Time special now saying Andrew Parker is an actor, the whole thing is a set up 🙄

TheShellBeach · 28/06/2024 20:33

I'm white and I'm horrified that Reform are even allowed to field candidates.

It's awful. It's outrageous.
Racists should never be allowed to stand.

TheShellBeach · 28/06/2024 20:35

And I'm so sorry and despairing, that people on this thread and throughout the country are still receiving racist abuse.

LadyKenya · 28/06/2024 20:36

Exactly@Avocadont77 . The Government's strategy of look over there, they are taking from you, all the while they are creaming off the top, and people will blame people with less than they have, for their ills.

TheShellBeach · 28/06/2024 20:38

Oh yes. "Banter"
Hmm FFS

Maggiethecat · 28/06/2024 20:38

So when pressed on racist comments made by his own candidates apparently it’s the establishment’s fault!

EmeraldRoulette · 28/06/2024 20:39

Mixed race here in terms of appearance

Have had to explain to a couple of people of colour that Reform is kind of the new BNP. I think for some, they assume that nightmare is in the past. I don't think it is and I'm quite scared.

I forced myself out the weekend of the Brexit vote - got called names a couple of times from blokes sitting outside pubs. I dunno, it feels scarier this time. I might stay home a few days post election. I just have a horrible feeling.

I'm also hoping the PM has extra good security. Something is making me feel very uneasy and I'm sure he does too.

TheShellBeach · 28/06/2024 20:40

Same. And worried for his family.

EmeraldRoulette · 28/06/2024 20:40

Also Farage made an odd comment

said proudly they destroyed the BNP - who is "they?" - so the BNP end up voting Reform. Reform voters can't be in denial still?

MotherOfRatios · 28/06/2024 20:41

I'm quite frankly fed up of the amount of racism on here it's getting worse so many reform voters
