Not sure if this will appear in Active but really I just want to hear the experiences and opinions of Black (and even Asian) MNetters here.

Given the descent into racism of this site, are there any other non-racist ones you’d recommend? I’ve had a look at Tattle and quite frankly that’s worse so it’s a no from me. Plus they’re kind of obsessed with “influencers”, in whom I have no interest.

It’s just a shame that the racism has seeped into all boards here - even TV and S&B is no longer safe. Anywhere else that isn’t a total cesspit?

I see that MM has launched some sort of lifestyle brand. The ww of MN are going to lose their minds over this. Prepare for them all to suddenly become e-commerce and branding experts!

I thought the same when I saw the instagram news from MM. Get ready for the 'how dare SHE?!!' outrage. I know online papers are all about clickbait but it is shocking how popular artcles slagging her off still are years after she did exactly what they wanted and left.

MissUnicorn · 15/03/2024 10:13

I'm on a site called Long Hair Care Forum. It's $6.50 a year. It's not perfect by any means. It's very American and Christian (I'm neither) and has got quiet over the years, but it's definitely a safe space compared to most.

I didn't know this section existed, but I'll definitely be on the lookout for threads now.

They have slow and forgetful minds considering she had a lifestyle blog (The Tig) before she met Harry and had to give it up amongst many other things when she moved here if I recall correctly.

I swear some act as if she did nothing before she married Harry and then when she was an actress they said she was horrendous yet in another breath, she’s good enough to “fool” Harry, the Queen, etc.

PinotGrogio · 15/03/2024 11:05

I’ve never watched Suits but from what I gather it wasn’t Friends but it was successful enough to run for a number of years. A part in a successful ensemble series is not to be sniffed at! But of course the ww of MN are so accomplished that nothing but the RSC is good enough for them.

I loved suits, I watched it all long before she met Harry. The fact the ceo is a tall black woman who took no prisoners was brilliant but it was just a lovely funny light entertainment show with great fashion and good look people. Meghan was great in it so I never got all the 'second rate actress' comments. No she's not Judi Dench quoting Shakespeare, but she is a good actress.

Probably be annoyed that MM still makes money through royalties from Suits despite her “bad acting”. She was in the show for six seasons so couldn’t have been that bad. They usually change actors and actresses in a heartbeat on tv shows if they are bad.

She was making £50,000 an episode for Suits even though it wasn’t on a main network like Friends was. Plus, American tv season can be at least 15 episodes long. That’s a lot of work and really long days when you’re one of the main characters.

LadyKenya · 15/03/2024 13:39

I would be interested to know what positions those people who are always quick to describe her as a second rate actress are holding. There is so much jealousy, and bitterness being directed at her. She was successful at what she was doing.

skullbabe · 15/03/2024 14:35

I’ve seen some episodes - I thought it a pretty standard show and Meghan good in her role. She did well as a jobbing actress and I feel comfortable to say that here because away from those threads we can allow for nuance. It’s the zeal to call her a z list actress (she may well be - and if she is then so what - gets me 🤷🏽) and to denigrate what seems like a pretty standard entertainment career that gets me. But they’ve now found something else to beat her with - so hold on to your hats.

pipsfromthefuture · 15/03/2024 16:51

I love Suits! I watched it weekly as it came out during undergrad for me, and they used to film in the penthouse of my best friend's condo! So I've been a Meghan fan for a long time (long before Harry).

Gina Torres is stunning, and her wardrobe in Suits is goals!

Agreed. And calling her a burger flipper and a suitcase girl
It's just derogatory

skullbabe · 15/03/2024 16:58

Can I get an amen? Why she so gorgeous though?

PinotGrogio · 16/03/2024 08:17

I see the branding experts got their thread deleted - what a surprised!

See also Northwestern University. It may not be Ivy League but it ranks higher than a lot of prestigious British universities and is now denigrated on Mumsnet purely because MM went there! It’s beyond bizarre.

OP posts:
skullbabe · 16/03/2024 11:40

Yeah saw that too - wonder why Northwestern is now nothing to consider accomplished? 🤔😂

I used to be on that forum what seems like decades ago. Lovely and wholesome. It started to go quite ages ago. Shall dig it up.
I hope it gets revived.

Rege · 17/03/2024 13:58

@PinotGrogio Northwestern is an excellent university, they'd be very lucky if their offspring got to go there as I would.

My sister and her friends used to love that site. Got all their haircare tips from there

I just wanted to give a quick wave ladies - I haven’t seen many of us out and about but just wanted to say hello. I’ve pretty much stopped posting in my niche topics because the dogwhistles and insidious bigotry have just got too much. I’m posting here also because I lurk from time to time and see some of you trying to post in these sections in good faith - and that board is so far gone I wouldn’t bother. Keep your peace - report the egregious posts but don’t engage.

JingsMahBucket · 29/04/2024 12:04

@skullbabe do you mind me asking which other niche topics you follow on here? The Royal board has gone absolutely rabid over the potential of jam and they’re currently racist dog barking about a Nigeria trip. JFC. I noticed even folks like Roussette and Samcro aren’t even bothering on those threads. It has seriously all gone to the dogs.

PinotGrogio · 29/04/2024 12:20

Yes, after a third thread was reached just about jam I decided not to both even looking. As you both say, too many racist dog whistles (and people who’ve only just discovered gifs) to even bother. What a bitter little lot.

OP posts:
skullbabe · 29/04/2024 12:57

I’m also on the feminism boards - posted a lot less there but have now just avoided entirely.
