Not sure if this will appear in Active but really I just want to hear the experiences and opinions of Black (and even Asian) MNetters here.

Given the descent into racism of this site, are there any other non-racist ones you’d recommend? I’ve had a look at Tattle and quite frankly that’s worse so it’s a no from me. Plus they’re kind of obsessed with “influencers”, in whom I have no interest.

It’s just a shame that the racism has seeped into all boards here - even TV and S&B is no longer safe. Anywhere else that isn’t a total cesspit?

I’m not sure this is the same thread, but if it’s the one that I saw it was the curtsey posts that killed me. I cannot believe in 2024, there is the expectation she should just have known to behave slavishly to someone on the basis their ancestors were particularly successful warmongers. It just felt like a whole new level of unreasonable criticism.

Rege · 09/03/2024 19:03

Looks like i missed all the excitement but i saw the thread was being investigated and wondered what had happened.

It is admirable the amount energy people spend just hating when called out, some posters have said, 'the moment she married Harry, She signed up to it!'. They clearly do not see how that makes them look. Why would anyone sign up to being bullied and having their character torn apart and why would you be proud to boast that you are indeed bullying /slanedering someone you don't even know?
Surely if other royal family members have been bullied, the lesson would be to recognise it is cruel and leave these people alone. It's seems for some it's like a hazing party.

Agree.

If it was a workplace, a job someone applied for and were treated like crap, they would tell people to leave. LTB is a common phrase when a spouse isn’t sticking up for his wife against his family, yet MM’s situation is somehow exempt. 🙄

And of course another day, another thread about how terrible MM is. But they’re not at all influenced by racism, oh no!

Meanwhile MM is happily getting on with her life but she lives rent-free in the heads of these keyboard Karens…

Yep, same old, same old. I just had a look at that MM thread just now. It is so sad, the constant, nasty attacks going on. They cannot do anything without being constantly criticized. The sick name calling is why I cannot bear to read those threads, especially when I am very aware of the real reason behind those venomous verbal attacks. I am done making any comments on them though. The people on there can carry on with their disturbing hate, they have issues.

Makes you wonder what their own lives are like that they feel the constant need to moan about a stranger who has done nothing to them and has nothing to do with them.

Can only imagine the examples they set for their own children doing this or is it some secret obsession that they have.

For being so-called feminists, I don’t understand why they would want to continue the disgusting tradition of vilifying one woman and sanctifying another. Can only imagine how they will act with Charlotte and Lillibeth despite their big age difference.

There is a brilliant podcast on BBC Sounds entitled "Why do you hate me". Looking at the trolled and the trolls and actually meeting some of those who abuse others online or get fixated by someone well known. What an eye opener.

Former female footballer Eni Aluko was mercilessly attacked online and bottom line is...it tends to be that these people aren't happy in their own lives so spewing hate about someone else is an outlet for them. An very unpleasant one

Sounds about right. Same thing with bullies.

N3m3 · 10/03/2024 13:33

I stopped posting on the BM thread as when others tried to flag or suggest topics should not appear in active to avoid the racist comments, this was ignored. So no I don’t feel safe to post in this thread anyone.

However in answer to the original question I haven’t found anything online. Instead a friend recommended a WhatsApp group called Black Parents Together. It’s a community group, that has a range of sub groups in different areas (so not London focused at all) other sub groups include education, parenting, book clubs, religion, business owners, healthcare etc. It’s also moderated very well any behaviour that doesn’t follow their guidelines is addressed appropriately. People are respectful of each other within the groups (I certainly haven’t come across any abuse) and I think it helps that this WhatsApp group is run by a group of black people. If anyone wants me to add them please send me a private message.

areyoutheregod · 10/03/2024 17:43

Sadly I have found racism on every platform or forum I have tired and whoever runs them never seems to understand. I think that real life communities are the only way we can discuss our issues amongst ourselves without being mistreated.

theduchessofspork · 10/03/2024 17:53

@BeckyAMumsnet

I understand that generally you don’t want to take boards out of active. But this is a very quiet board probably in part because black mumsnetters don’t feel it functions as it was intended to.

How about an experiment - take it out of active for 6 months and see if it gets busier and becomes a better resource.

I remember when MM married PH. I commented to a colleague now we will see all the racists pop up.
we were excited at what she would bring but disappointed with what happened.

I remember when they became engaged and the news outlets were reporting it. Could have made a drinking game out of how many times her mother’s roots were brought up while her father’s were brushed over. It would be death by alcohol poisoning.

Krampers · 10/03/2024 20:57

Quite sad, lives must be that bad to still be commenting on MM like this.

@PinotGrogio I was going to start a thread on this. Called "Trickle down..."

LadyKenya · 12/03/2024 11:21

I can't even... honestly, so much hate.

pipsfromthefuture · 12/03/2024 12:24

That's disgusting. He needs to be arrested for incitement of hate

intheloft · 12/03/2024 12:48

I disagree, I only have the app and I'm glad it was in active, I only found it because I only look through active and had no idea there was a black mums section. I will still be using active though for convenience but would like to see threads for inspiration and not to go hunting for them.

MCOut · 12/03/2024 13:40

The entire article is a joke and this man is a walking caricature. He has done everything:

  • Still believes he is not racist
  • Brought up the “racism” he himself has has to face
  • Has pointed to his Taiwanese partner
  • Is so entitled he feels he is owed Diane Abbot’s precious time because of course she should absolve him by picking up his call

@Reugny yes, this man who has also been called out by his own employees for racism is an NHS contractor… It fills me with such great confidence.

Then you are missing a few parts of MN as not all areas show up in Active

As I've said before myself and other posters direct people to parts of MN that are more appropriate for their posts, as many people think AIBU is the correct place to post serious questions.

skullbabe · 12/03/2024 13:44

The fact that Frank Hester was not immediately censured for saying something so completely egregious tells you just how much anti black racism and specifically anti black woman racism is accepted in this country.

areyoutheregod · 12/03/2024 13:59

he scares me... how awful for Diane. I hope she's ok.

PinotGrogio · 12/03/2024 14:47

I spotted a thread about the comments on AIBU that started of promisingly enough this morning but I see now that the racists and whatabouterists have shown up.

Horrified at what I heard.

i think I’m going to ask my gp surgery to keep my data private. I remember awhile ago I could opt out. I hope can still do so. And more do the same.

MCOut · 12/03/2024 21:00

Surprisingly the apologists are getting shut down on that thread. My heart breaks for Diane Abbott, she’s so brave to continue doing this. I know his comments were a while ago, but what she faces is just relentless and it makes me worry because truthfully I don’t think the current iteration of the Labour Party is a black ally. It’s just less terrible than a particularly terrible Tory party.
