Not sure if this will appear in Active but really I just want to hear the experiences and opinions of Black (and even Asian) MNetters here.

Given the descent into racism of this site, are there any other non-racist ones you’d recommend? I’ve had a look at Tattle and quite frankly that’s worse so it’s a no from me. Plus they’re kind of obsessed with “influencers”, in whom I have no interest.

It’s just a shame that the racism has seeped into all boards here - even TV and S&B is no longer safe. Anywhere else that isn’t a total cesspit?

@BeckyAMumsnet@BeckyAMumsnet let's see if your statement on swiftly deleting posts that are dismissive holds up.

Starseeking · 03/03/2024 16:46

@NewNameNigel I've also reported that nonsense.

NewNameNigel · 03/03/2024 16:54

I'm actually quite pleased that someone came on to prove our point 😂

NewNameNigel · 03/03/2024 16:55

It's actually gone already!
Fast work @mnhq
Thank you deleting it.
Can you see why it might be best to keep posts from here off active.

thefallen · 03/03/2024 17:02

@BeckyAMumsnet really disappointing that MNHQ are dismissing the calls of black MNers to move this board out of Active.

PinotGrogio · 03/03/2024 17:17

Ah I missed the little invasion but I’m only surprised it took that long 🙄

It was good one. It was the classic we're all too sensitive.

Oh it was that old chestnut then, that racists use to try and silence poc. I am glad I missed that foolishness.

They like a certain type though - Frank Bruno & Alison Hammond are both well liked. Frank, I need not explain. Alison is bubbly, 'entertaining', struggles with her weight and they love an underdog, so she earns their sympathy in typical 'saviour' way. If she were slim & beautiful that would be another story. I did notice however that when there was a thread suggesting who could take over from Holly Willoughby, Alison was never mentioned neither was a more obvious choice 'Rochelle Humes'.

Edited

Your comment about Alison reminded me of some research that was done years ago about the Teddy Bear Effect and black CEOs. The idea that is sometimes beneficial to have a baby face and chub.

Krampers · 03/03/2024 22:42

Alison is beautiful but honestly it is because she is overweight. They don't feel threatened by woc who are.

PinotGrogio · 04/03/2024 17:33

I don’t know, I saw plenty of complaints about Allison before the last series of Bake Off. Lots of “I don’t like her but can’t put my finger on why and ohmygod how dare you suggest it’s her race”.

OP posts:
Rege · 04/03/2024 18:08

That comment, 'I don't like her but can't put my finger on why', doesn't make your light shine any brighter, it dims it.

Anyone who is reading this thread whether white or black if you are the type of person who says the above about a person you do not know AT ALL it shows you have a very ugly spirit. I think it's okay to have a 6th sense about someone usually within the context of something the person has done previously, but strangers on TV or other If you just can't figure out why you dislike them perhaps you need to deal with this inwardly and tell yourself to reign in it and if you did that, you would probably discover EXACTLY why you don't like but find you can't express it because you know it's not them, it's you.

WhatAreThey · 05/03/2024 04:57

Sadly, I have to agree!
In my opinion, Mumsnet has and protects its favourites.

For years I've been saddened and frustrated by the hate threads and hate comments directed at M&H which seem like 80% of The Royal Family section.

I never used to comment on there. It was just a place to see some fashion then it became an amusement of how some are praised for simply doing grocery shopping and quickly full on pile on and opportunity for racists to play their game.

Anyways, I decided to post some of my thoughts including a post I made on Sunday 3rd of March about interviews and SM posts Kate's Mother has made using her royal proximity for publicity.

Mumsnet deleted it without even an email to notify me my thread had been deleted.

I was searching for it just now and couldn't find it. Thank God for my browser's history which confirmed I actually posted it and I've now see a trace under posts I'm "Watching".

In my view, Mumsnet has a low tolerance to criticism if directed at their fair y grandmother.

I've written them a very king email about the danger of using their platform to protect some and villify another. These women will teach their children how to practice prejudice and discrimination with dangerous repercussions for society.

From this thread I see they've been called out already. I guess I'm beginning to see them for who they are.

WhatAreThey · 05/03/2024 05:02

I certainly need a non racist forum please!

You should see the shit about black female athletes that is being allowed to stand in one thread. The same slurs that were aimed at Fatima Whitbread and Tessa Sanderson 40 years ago.

Hi @PinotGrogio we try to avoid taking whole boards out of Active because it reduces visibility and means posters who could benefit from a topic will be unaware of it. The Jewish MNers board was in Active but due to the current conflict, it was attracting a very large number of trolls. We removed it from Active as a temporary measure and we intend to put it back soon. We're interested in hearing the views of MNers who use this board so please let us know what you think.

On a site as large as Mumsnet, you are inevitably going to get trolls and troublemakers, but we are very clear in our long-established guidelines that we have no tolerance for hate-speech and will delete racist posts. We're also clear that this board is primarily for the use of Black MNers who are under no obligation to educate, inform, or answer questions about race issues.

Posts we believe are dismissive or aggressive or designed to derail a conversation (or just generally made in bad faith) are likely to be removed, so please report this kind of thing to us.

Thanks.

You remove pots made in bad faith? Have you seen The Royal Forum?
Over 60% of the threads are about discrediting or dehumanising Megan and Harry. Of the remaining 40%, 99% of it is derailed to have a go at Megan.
To me it seems you view it as permissible, acceptable and that's just the modus agreed to by BM.

WhatAreThey · 05/03/2024 05:17

PinotGrogio · 27/02/2024 10:03

Well yes, I assume that is also why they’ve been quite happy to let the Royal Family board turn into the We Hate Meghan Markle board. Good for business so why should we care about MNetters of colour who might feel ground down or triggered by the constant aggressions, both micro and other.

I just posted about this in my comment above. It's horrid trading on trauma.

There is a thread that is very annoying on at the moment. The poster has asked for Indian book characters. It's offensive as:

  1. It reduces POC to a national dress costume. I don't know how to explain this properly. But I find it crass and crude have people reduced in this way.
  2. It states shalwar kamees is Indian dress but its actually also from Pakistan which is a separate history/people/country. And perhaps others I don't know. Its a thread for misinformation to flourish.
3.. It shows the ignorance of posters who are suggest people like Malala and JASMINE from Aladdin as appropriate people (I.e. from different countries). It shows how little people know and how OK it is to conflate countries/cultures that are non western. Imagine if I confused Italian and French cultures!

I can't be asked to explain on the thread why this thread is very othering as people won't understand. It does make me sad though in the context of widespread dehumanisation of nonWhites. This sort of nonsense adds to that. If you dont get it, it's because its not your culture being shat all over.

It's constant isn't it. And if we dare point it out we are "too sensitive" as the now deleted racist poster told us.

coureur · 05/03/2024 11:43

I’ve asked HQ to pull the entire thread I mentioned earlier as it’s beyond redemption. They’re not even trying to hide it anymore. It’s basically “TRAs are forcing us to be racist”. Let’s see if they do.

NewNameNigel · 05/03/2024 14:08

The thread is still there @coureur
I am thinking of deleting my account to be honest. While I have had some good chats on here I don't know that I want provide content to mumsnet anymore. Ultimately us posting on here is what draws in the adverstisers. I no longer want to make money for a site that allows such blantent racism.

Ugh, another MM thread gone to the dogs too. Funny how in addition to being stylists and legal experts, these MNetters are now the most ardent feminists since Germaine Greer!

It must grind their gears that her and Harry are not suffering like they wanted after they departed and both look like they are thriving not being under the thumb of the RF and the British right-wing tabloid media.
