Urgent School say my Sons hair is too short!

My son told me last night, that the his hair is cut too short. The school have had, if it happens again, that he will have to go into isolation until it grows to a acceptable level. I need to contact school this morning to speak to them about it. It looks neat and tidy and it grows really quickly. His hair is mixed and he doesn’t look after it properly. Is there anything, that’ll can say to the school, or will l just have to accept that it’s too short?

[quote SkedaddIe]@Dontjudgeme101 does this picture help?

Thanks for that picture. It does help. His hair is longer at the top then shown in that picture. I can’t work out the back bit. I think probably at the bottom of the fade it was 1.5/2.0

Has it grown back yet 😉?

Faultymain5 · 15/05/2021 10:19

@Dontjudgeme101 Are you saying it doesn’t fade to the skin? Sorry it’s not clear to me how it looks/looked.

Dontjudgeme101 · 15/05/2021 10:21

It has grown a bit more and school are fine with now.

I assumed it was a bald fade ie faded up from a 0/0.5 at the back/sides from your earlier comments and the photo you shared is a bald fade.

If it was approximately a 2 at its lowest point then I take back my earlier comment and actually think that the school were being discriminatory.

You did abide the rules but they interpreted them incorrectly and your sons learning was impacted.

A curly hair level 2 is shorter than a straight hair level 2. The policy clear states cut level and not hair length.

In your position I would write directly to the head teacher or escalate directly to the clerk of the governors.

I see you have been back to update OP.

I was about to ask if it was a private school too! I think it’s ridiculous tbh and I would of just emailed the head and apologised to smooth things over.

Aside for this I hope it’s a good school.

Sounds like on this occasion the fade is the issue and the hair on the faded parts is too short. Save those styles for the holidays next time. It was a mistake that's easily done. Absolutely crazy though. I'm very glad my dc go to school in Scotland where state school pupils can go to school with whatever style, length and colour hair they choose!

You are to totally clueless - choice is an illusion! You got lucky but you see that as choice, I hope you know that.

I’m a secondary teacher, we have kids leave/join the school regularly because of differing policies across other schools in the region. I’m not clueless, it happens. We have a student that commutes 20 miles because our school is exactly what they and their parents want. It’s a standard inner city school rated good by ofsted.

Dontjudgeme101 · 15/05/2021 11:09

I have to be honest, l don’t know much about male haircuts, as you can see. Thank you for everyone giving me the heads up about this subject! It’s been settled now.

Well I’m a parent my daughter is on the waiting list of 6 schools. Has been since before year 7. So my experience (and tutor fees) tell me otherwise.
RedMarauder · 15/05/2021 11:23

@Lulola you seem tone deaf to why other posters are calling you clueless.

While it is possible in some areas of the country to commute miles to go to a preferred school and/or college, it isn't in others.

I’m so sorry OP. What really gets me is the endless white middle class boys with hair touching their shoulders and no comb in sight. To me, that hairstyle is plenty more extreme than a little fadeHmm.

Yes, you are right. I know of one boy in my sons class, who has long greasy hair! That disgusting and untidy, whereas a fade looks smart imo.
