Welcome Holly I'm in Brighton too.

Lcr-I would have loved to gone there, seems lovely, we don't drive though so bit too far I think as we will be getting a friend to drive us to hospital. Have u looked around it?

I love my gym ball, used it loads last time too, & in labour, it was great! Mine was only about £4!

Hope everyone is well x

LCRLCR · 06/07/2010 15:45

Hi babyducky have you started your antenatals yet? We started ours in Hove last week and it's a lovely group so hopefully i'll make some friends as I moved to Brighton 6 months ago and don't know many people yet.

We did look around Crowborough and had a really lovely impression so as long as LO cooperates, then that's the plan though I wonder how I'll manage the 40 minute journey...

Chulita · 06/07/2010 17:29

Ok, can you all please tell me to stop getting my hopes up.
I've had random tightenings all day, a few this morning but then loads this afternoon. I've also had a few rather painful twinges right down in my pelvic area. I've been getting the tightenings regardless of whether I'm sitting/standing/walking but I went for a short walk with DH and they were stronger then. The thing is they're not painful, they just take my breath away sometimes and they're very random and I haven't had a show. They also don't have an obvious start/finish iyswim, they come on gradually and then fade.

I've been getting stupidly excited thinking maybe tonight something's going to happen but the sensible side of me says it's just rubbish...

Either it will or it won't Chulita not very helpful. If i have another night like last night i may be up to keep you company should you be labouring through the night will keep my fingers crossed for you

neenz · 06/07/2010 17:57

Hi Chulita, sounds like BHs but you never know!

I went to MW today and had glucose in my urine (+3 which is a lot I think). Anyone else had this? I have to go back next week to have it checked again. I have a pretty low-sugar diet altho I have been treating myself a bit more than usual lately I suppose. I hadn't had anything sugary before I took the sample (one biscuit four hours before!). I had just had a big lunch one hour before, nothing sugary though. If there's still glucose next week I have to go for GTT. I am a bit gutted cos I like to think I have a really good diet, but at the end of the day all that matters is the baby is OK. Just wondered if it's likely glocose will be back to normal next week. MW said it is nothing to worry about as a one-off. Baby is measuring spot on for dates and is head down . HB and BP fine too.

Chulita · 06/07/2010 18:02

Yea [sigh] I've been trying to convince myself that contractions can be painless It's just that they've been going all day and if this drags on I'm going to be threaders with it very, very quickly! Got reflexology booked for tomorrow though so might see if we can get anything going.

neenz if they check it again and it's high then it could be a worry but as a one off I wouldn't worry too much!

girlsyearapart · 06/07/2010 18:05

good luck if this is it chulita

went for dd2's egg challenge today and she failed so no egg still..

very scary that 1 teaspoon of egg can cause a bad allergic reaction

Chulita · 06/07/2010 18:54

gya it must be really hard to avoid egg, loads of stuff has it in. Sorry you still have to go through all that faff

OP posts:
bouncingblueberries · 06/07/2010 19:28

alice tesco have an even cheaper gym ball - can't remember exactly, but I'm sure it's about £4??

chulita I might be joining you on the night shift honey. Been getting period-pain style cramps since Saturday that were really regular yesterday and seem a bit stronger today. Not painful enough to keep me awake but a few have taken me by surprise! I'm also really grumpy and irritable - seriously hormonal! No show here either, but I didn't have a show with ds, so who knows...I did say to dh that I reckoned baby would arrive on the 7th of the 7th (only because ds arrived on the 4th of the 4th and I like to keep dates tidy that way!)

gya that's such a shame about your dd - is it cooked egg? A friend of our is allergic to egg, but only if it's raw. Once it's cooked it's ok - but of course he can't let the raw egg touch his skin, so bit difficult for him to whip up an omlette on his own!

Welcome holly

neenz hopefully the glucose in your urine will just be a blip. But don't be so hard on yourself - gestational diabetes has more to do with hormones changing how your body reacts to sugar rather than an excess of sugar in your diet (and remember, all carbs are eventually broken down to simple sugars in your body anyway, so it's not just about refined sugar).

So, I wonder if we'll have more babies by the end of this week then?

kcoffin27 · 06/07/2010 19:34

Evening all, I have also been getting the period type pain on and off since thursday. However had much more today but only every few hours. Had no show either but (sorry for tmi) have had an increase in discharge

seeing the mw on thursday and she wants to go through a birth plan. Didnt know I needed one when im having a booked section

Glad its cooled down alot, but am still getting the fat ankles

babyducky · 06/07/2010 19:49

evening all

good luck chulita!

Ive been having lots of BH the last few evenings,
Ive got a feeling this baby is going to arrive early, not for at least another 2 or 3 weeks though I hope as i'm only 34 weeks.

My hospital bag is now completely packed though, woo hoo!!

LCR- no, we are not doing them this time.
Hope you enjoy yours
I havent lived in this area that long either.

Thats what I was worried about with crowborough, if we end up having to get a taxi it'd cost a fortune!

thedogwalker · 06/07/2010 20:21

Anybody heard from weehector, as she was complaining of back ache etc on Sunday and last post was early on Monday morning. Maybe there has aready been another pop and we just don't know it yet?????

chulita, Blueberries and Kcoffin, I wish you three good luck and hope all goes to plan.

Chulita · 06/07/2010 20:32

kcoffin I've had the same, going through 2 panty liners a day at the mo - minging! Blatantly tmi, sorry ladies!

Still got the BHs, going to try and ignore it, might even plan something really fun for tomorrow cos then baby'll have to come!

Fingers crossed blueberries

kcoffin you can do a birth plan for a c-sec too, someone posted something about it on another thread. I can see if I can find it if you want...

OP posts:
Chulita · 06/07/2010 20:37

Here's a copy of the c-section birthplan someone else posted for kcoffin (sorry it's so long, would've linked it but it was a long thread!)

C-SECTION BIRTH PLAN NOTES
Before my baby is born, I would like:

  • all procedures to be discussed with me and my partner.
  • my partner to be with me throughout the preparation procedures
  • to carry out the shaving myself / shaving to be kept to a minimum.
  • medication to be administered only after receiving information about it including the purpose, effects on me / baby, options about timing, e.g.: before or after the baby is born.
  • to avoid any drugs that will make me drowsy or - if absolutely necessary - to be kept to a minimum dise.
  • a Spinal / Epidural / General Anaesthetic (delete as appropriate)
  • to have the catheter inserted after the anaesthetic.
  • to have a suppository for pain relief administered before the operation.
  • x number of students / no students whatsoever to be present at birth.

During my baby's birth I would like:

  • to have / to not have a commentary of what is happening.
  • to have the curtain dropped at the moment of birth / no curtain blocking my view throughout.
  • a mirror so that I can - if I so wish - see what is happening.
  • photographs / a video to be taken of the birth.
  • our choice of music to be played.
  • as little noise as possible at the moment of delivery and for the baby to be handled as gently as possible.
  • the suctioning of the baby's airways to be kept to a minimum.
  • to discover the sex of the baby for myself / my partner to tell me the sex of the baby.
  • my baby to be delivered onto me, if he/she doesn't need resuscitation
  • to have help to hold my baby immediately / to have the baby washed first.
  • to have help to put my baby to breast whilst the operation is in progress.
  • my baby to stay with me at all times.
  • to be consulted if my baby needs to go to SCBU
  • if I need a general anaesthetic, for my partner to hold my baby immediately after the birth.
  • if I need a general anaesthetic, for my partner to put my baby to the breast as soon as possible.
  • my partner tostay with my baby at all times (i.e. in the recovery room / SCBU)

Emergencies
I and my partner (or my partner alone, if I am not awake) will discuss and assess all eventualities as they arise. In any case, it will help us to know the answers to these questions:

  • What exactly is wrong ?
  • What you suggest and why ?
  • What would be the possible outcomes with or without the recommended intervention ?
  • How much time do we have to make a decision ?
  • Are there any other alternative courses of action open to us ?
We will be guided by balanced, informative advice. Our wish is for both baby and myself to be healthy and we will take all the necessary steps to achieve this.

Post-natally, I would like:

  • to be offered regular pain relief which does not conflict with my desire to breastfeed. This includes any drug that will make me drowsy (i.e. codeine)
  • a Patient Controlled Unit (PCU) for pain relief.
  • for my baby to NOT be offered any formula.
  • to be given help to breastfeed on demand.
  • for my baby not to be washed/dressed immediately, so that he/she can have the opportunity for skin-to-skin contact.
  • my baby to be with me at all times, unless I specifically request otherwise.
  • to be given help to hold my baby, if necessary.
  • to be present when my baby is bathed or has a nappy change.
  • to be consulted as to when I can be discharged from hospital.

ElusiveMoose · 06/07/2010 20:37

Wow, very exciting that all these babies might be about to pop!!

Quick post cos my mum's here, but just wanted to reassure you all that my hospital bag is now fully packed .

LittleMissSnowShine · 06/07/2010 20:55

Chulita - Ooh sounds like there's def not too long to go by the sound of things. Raspberry leaf tea at the ready!! There's some reflexology points that specifically stimulate the uterus, little toe and somewhere near the ankle I think... so hopefully reflexologist can move things up a gear for you!

And thanks as well for the C-Section birth plan - I'd been thinking about that just in case LO does stay breech and we end up needing one so this is very handy to have

Neenz hope everything is ok - I guess that if they told you not to come in again until next week they're not too concerned about it. My friend developed gestational diabetes in her last trimester and they decided to induce her a week early but everything went fine and mum and baby both doing well so try not to worry too much no matter what results of GTT are...

Been on all fours for about 5 mins a go a few times today and spent 40 mins on birth ball earlier so surely this must be having some effect!! Baby was very quiet this morning and was getting a bit worried but kicking away again now..phew! T minus 12 days til GP checks position...move baby move!!

isheisnthe · 06/07/2010 20:56

Hey all - my maternity leave has finally started so I will be more of a feature here - need to catch up!

Top tip to all you ice crunchers - don't. I have just snapped a bit off of my molar - I onyl had a check up 4 weeks ago - I can not believe it!

Not a great start, funeral yesterday for my grandad and today my tooth snaps....

kcoffin27 · 06/07/2010 21:21

Thanks chulita for the birth plan, its very helpful. I know what you mean about the pantyliners.

Just eaten a lovely bowl of ice cream and home grown strawberries
had a bath and was still getting pains, but seem to have stopped now.

vix206 · 06/07/2010 22:08

Hi girls just a quickie from me, would have been on earlier but its hard to use the computer when you are spending all evening on all fours with your bum in the air

baby has been uncomfortably transverse since yesterday morning so I thought I'd have a try to get him back head down. After what felt like an eternity he moved, only the wrong way. He is now diagonal with his head just under my ribs on the right hand side. I have tried ice on his head, bouncing/gyrating on the ball, light shone lower down - all the tips I have found online but nothing works. I know I have a way to go at 34 weeks but I am so uncomfortable I just want him back head down where he belongs. Hopefully he'll get the hint soon and move.

Anyway back to (carefully) crunching ice - I just can't resist it!!! x

isheisnthe · 06/07/2010 22:20

Just saw about CazM - and I am peed off about a bit of tooth - puts it in perspective - so sorry for your loss x x x

weehector · 07/07/2010 00:43

Hi guys, dogwalker I'm still here. As is the back pain (which I think is just back pain as the baby is lower now & tbh with 32j bangers I've been lucky to be relatively pain free so far) but I think we should start the slow coach bus for the maternity unit (ie a few weeks away) - in the past day or so I've also started getting those shooting twingey pains in my cervix that others are talking about. I have no idea how I know this and it may be wishful thinking my part, but it feels like my cervix is softening. It's not freaking me though...still haven't packed the hospital bags (but well done elusive!)...there's something stopping me washing the baby clothes & making the final preparations to the house. I think I need a few more weeks yet. Start my freebie hypnobirthing classes tomorrow night so that may help me get my head out the sand.

chulita & blueberries if you're joining me in the Wideawake Gang tonight, I suggest a virtual midnight feast, where we can whinge about aches & pains to our hearts content? Anything beats this crazy sleep deprivation...didn't sleep at all again last night..back to bed for an hour at a time between pees between 1pm & 4pm this avo...

weehector · 07/07/2010 00:47

isheisnthe sorry to hear about your grandad btw..is sad he'll not meet his great grandchild...

Alicetheinvisible · 07/07/2010 05:32

Can i join in the Wideawake Gang? Monday night i was up til 3am with cramps and backache, last night DD was up a few times (She normally sleeps 11-12hrs straight)we are now all up and DH and DD are eating breakfast, but it feels too early

MW this morning, so nice long walk with the buggy (uphill)

Have a good day ladies

vix206 · 07/07/2010 05:40

I'm awake too slept on and off between 12 and 3am but baby laying transverse and kicking/wriggling/hiccupping is so uncomfortable that I just can't get anymore sleep. Up for work in 2 hours plus have our last hypnobirthing session today.

I haven't had a proper nights sleep since 20 weeks and am so tired all the time. Oh well mustn't moan. Have a great day ladies.

weehector · 07/07/2010 05:45

alice application approved think I'll just give in and have my first breakfast of the day too.
