Good to hear from caz though so sad that she is burying her baby when she should be cuddling her instead. Life is so shit sometimes

Wrt birth plans- not having one, didn't have one either time before and no one asked for one anyway. I think the ones with major important points are worth it but the really detailed ones with stuff about music and candles etc are just setting yourself up for a disappointing start as things rarely progress as you'd expect.

LittleMissSnowShine · 05/07/2010 13:13

Saw MW this morning and it ended up being pretty stressful

Took AGES to find heartbeat, which has never happened before, and she kept moving the doppler around and looking at her watch and I was completely panicking since, because everything has been so straightforward so far, I was there on my own! Eventually she found it and said the heart rate was fine but she seemed to be able to hear it in two different places!! So between that and the strange, contorted shape the baby seems to be in, MW started to become convince it must be TWINS in there!!

I asked (nervously!) would they not have picked that up at my scan and she just asked when my last scan was . She read through 20 week report and agreed they probably should have noticed if it was twins but she wasn't at all convinced.

She then told me baby was breech (which I was already pretty convinced of anyway) and it was back to back. I'm nearly 33 weeks now and she has told me to see the GP in two week's time and if he agrees with her and the baby has shown no sign of budging then it's off to the hospital for a scan and prob to plan an elective c-section because she thinks because of awkward positioning, difficulty of finding heartbeat and my general body shape that it's pretty unlikely to turn of its own accord. gulp.

Sorry for mammoth post but the whole thing really freaked me out from beginning to end and it's thrown me for six a bit since I was so used to breezily getting the all clear every time I've had a check up that I just assumed this morning would be the same!! Anyone out there had similar experiences? Any advice?? Thanks!!

Chulita · 05/07/2010 13:35

littlemiss they can turn very late, this one turned at 36+ weeks so don't panic. You can birth a breech OP baby too so it doesn't have to be a CS. Up until last week they couldn't find the heartbeat easily on this one either cos it was in the most ridiculous position - at the hospital I've been going to you can ask for a quick positioning scan, have you tried that with yours? How odd if you had twins in there!

mrsZaC · 05/07/2010 14:16

owh littlemiss sounds like you've had a right time of it! i woudn't pay attention, there is plenty of time for little baby to move. I know this sounds really silly but I keep a picture of baby in the correct position for birth beside my bed and look at it everyday, it seems to have worked so far - may be worth a try! also when I do yoga that seems to shift the baby about sometimes, try going on all fours and then stick your arms on the floor and lay your head to the side (bum up in air) this gives baby a good amount of room to encourage it to shift about.

How strange if you do have twins in there but by the sounds of things it's just your midwife being a little barmy?

chin up mrs

LittleMissSnowShine · 05/07/2010 15:27

thanks chulita and mrszac!!! very good tips - hope you're right that MW is just being barmy, I'm sure twins would be lovely but it would have been nice to have a little bit more warning lol

I managed to meet up with a friend this afternoon who is (handily!) a trainee obstetrician and she made me feel a lot better about the whole thing too. I think I was just so used to being told everything was fine that I didn't for one second think there'd be any kind of problem when I went along this morning but when MW couldn't find the heartbeat it felt like it went on forever

So it looks like I have a two week window to get on all fours and bounce on a gym ball and hope baby decides to turn, then, if that doesn't work, I'll get a scan (which will hopefully confirm for definite there's only one baby in there!!!), they will offer me the chance to have the baby manually turned by a doctor and if that doesn't work it'll be a c-section at 38 weeks, apparently. But none of those scenarios are nearly as scary as not being able to find the baby's heartbeat.

Feeling some kicks and movement again now so feel a lot calmer. Thanks again for all your advice...phew...

soontobefatnat · 05/07/2010 17:17

Ooh - LittleMiss sounds like quite the eventful MW appointment! Hopefully the sage advice above will help you get your little one turned. I'm on the same mission - and apparently swimming helps too, so if you can fit in a bit of that it might be good (breaststroke/front crawl).

Nothing much to report here - just had a lovely long weekend on the Kent coast with DH. Home now and absolutely shattered! Bit too much hilly walking, I guess. (eating my bodyweight in chips might not have helped either!)

T-minus three weeks at work, then am into the final stretch. Really better start getting ready for this little one's arrival!

Massive love to Cherry and Corey. Sounds like it went brilliantly!

girlsyearapart · 05/07/2010 17:25

littlemiss how scary- same thing happened to me at consultant apt the other day. He even left the room to get another doppler to try. Just as well I'd felt the baby move not long before or I'd have been freaking!

Will eat my hat if it's twins- they just don't miss them with the scans they have nowadays..

Just been for the furthest walk I've done in weeks in vain hope of getting baby to get a move on.

Have hospital tomoro avo with allergic dd2 for an 'egg challenge' which can take 4-5 hours.. joy

sparkle101 · 05/07/2010 19:23

littlemiss hopefully all is okay and that there's only one in there!

soontobefat what part of the kent coast did you visit?

cazzybabs · 05/07/2010 19:24

WOW - what alot...

Cherry - thank god you didn't go to term...big baby!

Caz - thanks for your message - still thinking about you, dh and Belle.

My blood pressure is down with the help of drugs...now panicking about them and the effect on the baby - I googled it but mostly it seems to be fine. Midwife thinks I am anemic! I also have a massive stye on my eye ...anyway apart from that I am fine.

sparkle101 · 05/07/2010 19:43

cazzybabs - I too am taking tablets for high blood pressure - was really nervous - same as you about taking them with the baby but the pharmacist showed me the complete medicines book where it says in huge capital letters it is entirely safe to take and there are three or four tablets which are first in line to take for ladies which are pregnant. Have been taking them for about three \ four months now and baby progressing well (had 5+ extra scans) so try not to worry too much!

Bubbabear · 05/07/2010 22:19

Thank you for the message Caz, lovely to hear from you hon x

A friend of mine from work is due on Friday. She popped into work today as she only lives around the corner & has lots of building work going on at her house so likes to escape for a bit now & then! This is her second & was over a week late with her first so she's not expecting this one to be on time. So much so that she has only just got the car seat out the loft & still hasnt packed her hospital bag yet! Makes me feel a bit better as she's got 6 weeks on me

I have my first NCT class tomorrow, looking forward to it. DP cant make it so my mum is coming with me. Will be good (hopefully) learning / remembering anything helpful but mostly just cant wait to see other women who are as far along as me just to compare bumps!

Sweet dreams everyone x

Emster30 · 05/07/2010 22:33

I went to my first antenatal class this evening, and cellyD was there! We didn't actually speak to each other as I think she came in late and left early, and was at the other end of the room, but I recognised her name on the signing in sheet from Facebook. Next week we will have to have a chat if we can!

At the end we went round and said how many weeks we were and at 37 weeks I was the highest by quite a few weeks! I don't know if I'll make it through all four weeks of the class but it was really useful to have the labour one tonight, and then we've got the breastfeeding one next week so that will be useful. I definitely didn't have the biggest bump by a long way, so much for my mum telling me I'm enormous!

Alicetheinvisible · 06/07/2010 08:37

Morning

Emster how funny that you would meet another aug10 lady.

Was up most of the night with cramping and BH but managed to get to sleep at 3am with the aid of a hot water bottle against my back. Need to get some paracetamol before this evening. Did think things were starting at one point, but think baby was just trying to shift around.

So tired though.

Got about 90% of the baby stuff washed yesterday though, so feeling a bit more organised.

Chulita · 06/07/2010 08:39

Morning everyone!

Does anyone want a 19 month old for the day? She's lovely and won't eat anything other than nectarines and grapes so she won't be any trouble. I just need some sleep after she was up all night last night - how is she still going?

I didn't get offered antenatal classes, hope they don't have anything new to say!

Right, off to get breakfast and start the day I think

OP posts:
Emster30 · 06/07/2010 09:33

Urgh I'm so glad I don't have to cope with a toddler at this stage. I was round for a cup of tea with a colleague who lives up the road whose second baby is due a couple of weeks after I'm due, and while her little boy is adorable, it's pretty full on!

The antenatal class was good - it's run by our local children's centre and the midwife there is quite into natural childbirth and relaxation techniques rather than drugs etc, but because she works in the hospital she knows how it all works. I was a bit worried that DH would be a bit put off as he is very pro-drugs but he found it really interesting and useful (as did I).

tunise · 06/07/2010 09:52

Wow, congratulations to Cherry, what a great birth story!
I'm hoping that now i've finished work i can keep up with the threads a bit more, i've had time to skim over them normally but never seemed to actually post much.
It's all getting so close now, am almost ready although i dont expect anything exciting to happen by itself, this is number 4 and a planned C Section.
Did have to go for a growth scan yesterday as bump was measuring 29/30 weeks when i am 33 weeks. However scan measurements showed up as being towards the top end of average and not a small baby at all. She even has chubby cheeks!
Loving the fact it's cooled down a bit around here, hurrah!
Hope everyone has a good day today and manages to get in the rest they need.

LittleMissSnowShine · 06/07/2010 11:13

Emster - Me and DH had planned on going to the NCT classes but they rescheduled the night they were being held on at the last minute and moved them to the night when DH teaches a night class so we couldn't go! So I phoned hospital to see if they could fit us into their parentcraft classes and they can - but only problem is they're full until 10th and 17th Aug! And baby is due on 28th Aug

So if it comes early for some reason then we're in trouble!!

So after seeing MW yesterday and all the panic about not being able to find the heartbeat and LO's odd position making her wonder if there's twins in there (still haven't quite recovered from that!!!) and then deciding LO is breech and back to back, I've been spending plenty of time on all fours, rocking back and forth and generally wriggling my bum (it's a very attractive look lol). Some success - LO seems to have moved again....but is transverse again from what I can tell Not sure if that's better or worse!! Will keep it up tho and go for a walk later - read that only 4% of babies refuse to turn themselves out of breech which is reassuring. Sort of. That's still 1 in 25!!

Hope everyone's well

Alicetheinvisible · 06/07/2010 11:53

I am going to get a gym ball today as apparently circling your hips on one can help turn the baby. Decent one in Argos for £6.99

mrsZaC · 06/07/2010 12:20

off work today as I feel a cold coming on and trying to keep it at bay! sore throat and a little woozy. Shame my idea to rest includes a trip to mamas and papas and boots to get some hospital bag essentials anyways back home now and planning on resting for the afternoon, got those really heavy eyes you get when you have a cold... hope I can stave it off, last thing I would like just now!!!

alice I have a birthease ball, very good I use it for the computer now instead of a chair, but a little more pricey than your £6.99 jobby.

emster totally strange how u met cellyD! hope you can get a chat next time

littlemiss I'm sure if baby is persuaded to move in anyway its a good sign I'm sure if you relax and take it easy it will all come together in the end!

chulita I feel for you, I'm with the other girls on the last thing I would want to be doing right now is running after a little one all day!

well off to 'rest' as you might have gathered I'm not very good at it!

thedogwalker · 06/07/2010 14:04

Good afternoon everyone.

I hope everyone is okay

alice I bought a reebok ball from argos for £6.99 only last week and i now use it when I'm on the computer instead of a chair. My LO is already in the correct position, but I don't want him to move, so I sit on this and do exercises on all 4s everyday, just to keep him where he is. I hope it works.

I've got 40 days today until my due date and I cannot wait, I'm getting all excited. Yes you can tell it's my first!!!

However, I'm looking after my friends 2 children for the next 3 days, starting tomorrow. Phew that is going to kill me, the boy is 12 motnhs and he is a little darling, but at that just walking stage where he is into everything and the girl is 4, who I've to collect from school. She is still only part time, so I will have them both all afternoon. Talk about in at the deep end, gets me some practice for changing nappies

Take care everyone
xx

HollyandKitty · 06/07/2010 14:23

Can I join the august babies please?

My name is Holly, 26, brighton and I'm expecting my first - a little girl called Kitty-Rose on 28th August.

xxxxx

Chulita · 06/07/2010 14:44

Hello holly, love your little one's name!

OP posts:
LittleMissSnowShine · 06/07/2010 14:44

dogwalker good luck with minding the kids!! nappy changing and everything - full on

Alice - I borrowed a gym ball off my mum today. It's just a regular, Everlast one so prob not as good as the BirthEase ones mrsZaC has been using but I'm going to inflate it tonight and give it a go. Anything to move LO back out of transverse again - I thought breech was annoying lol

Hi Holly! Nice to meet another newcomer Great that you have your due date, know the baby's gender and have a name picked out already - very organised!

LCRLCR · 06/07/2010 15:05

Hi Holly

I am also in Brighton! Where are you planning to have your baby? I am hoping to go to Crowborough, looks so sweet there

thedogwalker · 06/07/2010 15:15

Hi Holly and welcome

I love the name you've chosen. My DH and I shortlisted Rose if we were to have a girl, but our LO made it very obvious at the 18 week scan that he was a boy, he left nothing to the imagination. My DH was well pleased at the size!!!!!
