Congratulations kcoffin another lover of the name Ruby - we couldn't have it because dd2 is Rosie so too similar themed..

alice the bf ing this time is really different. My boob is easily the size of half of Tilly's body so hard to do it discreetly but we are gettin better.

Like chulita I am finding it hard to see to the others when bfing which is why midwife suggested 30 min limit on the breast then a top up.

Obv only works when mix feeding though.I am a bit discouraged when I feed for 30-45 mins and then she downs a bottle though, wondering how much she is actually getting from me but hopefully the top ups will reduce or can replace a bf when her feeding gets into a pattern.

alice the girls seem to quite like her- dd1 very interested. wants to hold her and see to her all the time. Dd2 not as interested but today asked to cuddle her for first time. Heart melting stuff

vitapulchra · 31/07/2010 21:29

Sorry Nikalah you sound pretty miserable, hope you don't have to wait too long. I can sympathise somewhat about acid--I've been waking up in the middle of the night b/c of the pain of it pooling in my chest and throat. Ach. And disgusting.

Right, ladies, we'll need a new thread soon: any suggestions for titles? I've updated the list (below) but taken the liberty of moving babies born off from the waiting room area--what do you think or should it remain as above? The only prob is we lose your age and location. I also added in the number of children since I vaguely remember somebody suggesting that.

Thanks for all your comments on her name
sorry to be so self-obsessed, but I need to complain as I feel like total cr*p
since I have been home I have done nothng but cry for no reason. Feel sad for no reason.

mw came out this evening Ruby has gone yellow so got to sit in the sun with her in the morning, if no improvement got to go back to hospital
This afternoon Ruby also had a bad tummy and did in total 7 poohs, runny mw said she might have a tummy bug, will see what she is like tomorrow.

I was unsure of breast feeding so didnt try till yesterday, she latched on but wasnt that interested. Tried once since then and she didnt seem to get any, so I have kept to the bootles

I have not had much sleep as Ruby wakes every hour and sleeps in the day.

Sorry to do so much moaning, just had to say something.

ElusiveMoose · 31/07/2010 22:52

Oh kcoffin, I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish. Life with a newborn is just SO tough (and I've only done it with one so far, I haven't had to contend with looking after a baby and older kids yet, which you're going through). Please don't think I'm being glib, but I notice again that you're 3 days post-birth at the moment. I'm sure you know already because you're on your third, but it's such an established fact that your hormones go completely mad about 3 days after the birth, around the time your milk comes in. I remember that night well from last time - I was still in hospital at the time, and I just lay there sobbing and sobbing and sobbing (was also just starting to develop problems with bf'ing as well, having thought it had gone ok for the first couple of days). Obviously that doesn't mean the difficulties you're having are any less real, but it does mean that it's much harder to cope with them around now (and should get a bit easier again soon ). WRT the bf'ing, IIRC the third day is a really transitional time, halfway between colostrum and proper milk, so if you're still wanting to bf, maybe you could keep trying for another day or two to see if things change?

Just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you tonight (I'm sure everyone else on here is too). To be perfectly honest I'm seriously daunted about the thought of doing it all again in a few hours/days time. By then I'm sure I'll be the one on here venting, and you'll already be feeling much better and trying to reassure me . Anyway, just wanted to say hang in there, and try to remember that those early days do pass (so hard when you're still in the middle of them, as I remember only too well). xx

Chulita good to hear from you, and sounds like you're really soldiering on in spite of the difficulties (the thrush sounds horrid, poor you). And I'm really sorry it's been hard with your DD; I'm really anxious about how DS is going to cope with our new arrival too. But forewarned is forearmed - I'm really going to try to think of some ways to make him feel more positive about it over the next few days (good tip about nap times by the way, vita).

Not much happening here. I think I'm finally getting a few proper BHs (not painful, but just a few more intense and long-lasting tightenings now). And the indigestion is back with a vengeance - yuk. Just watched some good telly to take my mind off it, though - caught up with Sherlock on iplayer, which I absolutely loved! Whoever it was who said thank god for box sets, I completely agree - just started the Sopranos, which I'm also loving, and should keep us going for a good few weeks .

cazzybabs · 31/07/2010 23:27

kcoffin - don't forget you have lots of hormones to get rid of which is making you feel down...and also everything seems worse when you have no sleep plus you are still recovering from major surgery - hugs hugs and more hugs....[cazzy hands over a vitual cup of tea and some chocolate biscuits]. Also as one of the 1st you haven't as yet got anyone else in the same boat but don't panic becayse soon we will all be moaning/crying/exhuasted!

BUT I have seen your photos and Ruby is beautiful.

weehector · 31/07/2010 23:31

kcoffin You're not moaning, you're a new mummy with crazy hormones all over the place..stop beating yourself up. Give yourself a break because..

  1. You've just had major surgery
  2. You now have 3 kids needs to meet
  3. You're sleep deprived
  4. You're contending with BF issues, Ruby's dodgy tummy & potentially having to go back to hospital because of the jaundice

Objectively speaking, that's a lot when you're feeling pants, emotionally & physically. Huge hug...hope tonight is a bit easier & tomorrow is a whole new world for you. Oh, and congratulations!!

Aussieng · 31/07/2010 23:34

Hi all - sorry to those of you feeling rubbish in "the waiting room". It's officially august in 40 mins so it will soon all be over...

Really popped on to try to offer some comfort to kcoffin but elusive just beat me to it, said everything I was thinking but better - that 3 day thing is so true! You're doing fab Hun - the fb picture of you sitting up in hospital with ruby - I'm in awe.

Chulita, sorry you've had such a tough day and your dd too. Hope the bf issues clear ip soon. Jamie has a milk tongue- will get the health centre to check it is not thrush on Monday.

Gya - well done on the public bf. I fed jamie in a pub beer garden on tue but there was no-one else there so I don't think it counts. I met a friend from my ante-natal group in cafe Nero on thu and I was praying jamie would not wake up as I didnot want to feed him in there as it was so crowded. I was Reading the mn thread on the hooter hiders and it made me so angry - it's tough enough trying to do these things especially as a new mum without judgy idiots criticising you for wearing a cover!

Bf is going okish - I have a bit of a forceful letdown which causes J some distress in the afternoon so have just ordered a pump to take some of the pressure off (literally). I expressed a little by hand earlier and swear some of it hit the ceiling.

Anyway - night all. No pressure but a 1 august baby announcement would be lovely (and last chance for the full child trust fund)!

weehector · 31/07/2010 23:58

vita that is one good looking list. Cherry may well get jealous of your list skills (if she had the time)

chulita DD's meltdown just sounds so sad for all concerned. Knowing & understanding why are one thing but it must be heartbreaking not to physically have the time (or free arms) to comfort her. Poor wee soul..and Glasgow was good thanks, made it until a rock and roll 10.30pm but have decided that that's me not going more than an hour from home without DH with me now. Monday's funeral roadtrip is off too, though I now have a friend coming to stay for the night with her two kids - I've been promising them a trip on uncle Weehector's ship for months now & it'll keep me occupied...it's a short crossing but it would be typical if I went into labour on the boat.

elusive I'm working my way through Mad Men but have never seen the Sopranos and it's next on my download purchased perfectly legally from Amazon list.

Sleep tight all. Thinking of those who are on the outskirts and wondering...hope tonight's the night (if it's convenient & you feel ready!). X

Alicetheinvisible · 01/08/2010 00:19

Woohoo Happy August!! It is finally here!!!!

(actually, i am bricking it )

Congratulations KC give yourself a break, it is not easy, but it is temporary, remember the great MN saying 'This Too Shall Pass'

Nikalah my DH has been a grumpy bugger all day too.

Ended up having a lovely meal together (M&S dine in) and i had a glass of wine, he had the rest of the bottle. In bed quite early, day shopping planned for tomorrow, lovely. DD wakes up about 45mins after i have fallen asleep (nightmares) so need to put her back, just fall asleep to wake up to the cat scratching around in our room so ask DH to chuck the cat out as he had stirred too, but because he has had a couple of drinks, he wakes up groggy and completely overreacts so i end up swearing at him He immediately falls asleep again taking up the whole bed, i can't get comfortable what with pelvic and rib pain and BH, so i am back downstairs I am sore and grumpy and tired.

Chulita · 01/08/2010 08:52

alice what a nightmare! You've inspired me to pop a bottle of wine on the Sainsbury's order, 9 months without any is long enough I think! At least you're getting the practice in, I haven't slept more than 4 hours in a night since Sam came along! I really hope you get your VBAC cos not being able to pick your toddler up is really crap! I hate cs even though this one has been a lot better than last time.

kc I hope you get some rest today! Once your hormones settle things will be a lot more manageable. If you really want to bf it's worth giving it a really good go. Sam's been bf'd since birth (a whole 8 days ) and he still takes between 5-10 mins to latch - drives me up the wall cos I just want him to get on with it but he's on/off/on/off for ages!

aussie I was saying to my mum that I wanted a strong letdown and she said it was horrendous. If she was feeding on one side the other would be squirting all over the place! I'm quite glad I have a barely noticeable one especially if it makes it harder for Jamie to feed. Once he's a bit chubby 4 month old though he'll love it!

August babies come on out! cazzy it's your turn I think...

OP posts:
girlsyearapart · 01/08/2010 09:16

morning all happy august

sorry to hear you're feeling rough kcoffin
the first few days can be so rough and if you aren't a first time Mum people assume you know it all and will cope fine.

Had a rough night last night- dh decided to go on a stag do (not even invited to the wedding just an excuse for a piss up)so left home at 515pm. I got all three asleep at 7 but decided to stay up to give Matilda her next feed so went to bed at 11. she woke at 215 fed from breast then drank 3oz formula nappy and clothes changed all done by 3ish but she wouldn't settle and was wide awake.

I spoke to dh who was in a taxi about 30mins max from home but by 4 he still wasn't home and the baby was still awake.

I texted him to find he was at a friends house and made him come home Matilda finally gave in at about 450 then woke yet again at 530 then the dds woke at 630..

Mil has taken the older 2 till 1030 but obv as soon as they left Matilda woke and has been feeding since 8ish.. arrrrgh I am tired!

ps- can someone talk to me about bfing and alcohol please?

cazzybabs · 01/08/2010 09:38

Girls - I think it depends upon you...the advice is the same as pregnancy as alcohol can enter the breastmilk...however I have always drunk not so I am drunk but a couple of glasses and not everynight.
(it helps the sleeping )
The main worry is that if you co-sleep you will roll on top of the baby

Tummy dosn't hurt today so off to a maize maze.. feel all hormonal and teary though

sparkle101 · 01/08/2010 10:06

Okay so it's finally here - the 1st August which seemed so far away 8 months ago. I am just going to ge my bag and leave via the back door if poss as realisation has finally decided to set in (with a little help from the active birthing class yesterday) and not entirely sure I can do this.....

Although the midwife did suggest having a sprtizer whilst waiting for labour to come on properly so that's good news.

Chuilita am amazed at your perseverence with the BF you have definately inspired me to not be a chicken and try and do it and keep at it!

Hope everyone has a great Sunday. We need more babies please!

LittleMissSnowShine · 01/08/2010 10:08

kcoffin - Congrats on baby Ruby's safe arrival! Sorry it's all a bit tricky at the minute - can't be easy adjusting to life with a new born, esp after a c section. Hope you're able to take things easy and let your body get some rest and heal, and hopefully the post birth hormones will start to calm down. Don't be hard on yourself, you're doing the best you can and it'll all come together soon!

Chulita - Sounds like quite a juggling act with your new LO and DD. I'm sure your DD will get used to the new baby soon and I really hope your bf issues can be resolved so you're less uncomfortable.

gya - i know nothing about bfing and alcohol but more than happy to talk about it! I found some wine in Sainsburys that's only 5% which is good news cos unlike the no alcohol wine it does actually taste like real wine and you can have a bucketful of it without getting particularly pissed

Went out for curry and a movie with DH and some friends last night. Spicy food seems to do nothing to me - not even BHs So will be persisting with raspberry leaf tea, pineapple and charging up and down the stairs for next couple of weeks!! Glad AUgust has arrived, getting very excited now

vitapulchra · 01/08/2010 10:42

Here it is, ladies, in honour of August 1st: our shiny new thread. Come on over for ice cream and lollies (great for heartburn!), my best chocolate raspberry pudding cake and even a glass of wine to help us relax before labour.

Bubbabear · 01/08/2010 11:01

Think all this demanding of August babies to arrive now it's August may have started something?? Just had some big, intermittent trickles of clear liquid over the last half hour which was definately not wee! At first thought I need to really focus on those pelvic floor exercises, then remembered someone else saying that right b4 her LO appeared - Cherry ??!
Not convinced it's all happening as not due til 19th but not sure what it was otherwise...

mrsZaC · 01/08/2010 15:34

afternoon lovely ladies, just checking in to let you know i'm still around! was away in Tiree for a week and very busy doing lots of photography jobs, trying to sort out the nursery at the moment, it's chaos! pain in the but trying to squeeze everything in alongside my office things, wish poor baby had his/her own room, but we'll just have to wait I suppose.

Not had a chance to read back so i think I will have a few congratulations to wish after this message!

hope your all well.

x

thecoffeelady · 01/08/2010 22:07

Hello Ladies,

Sorry I haven't posted in an age, I have been lurking and reading but didn't have the energy to post anything.

Huge congratulations to all of the ladies who have had their babies.

I am finally on maternity leave! I finished yesterday after a very long 10 hour day at work. Only a week to go until my due date, but as my dd was 10 days late I do not hold out much hope for this one doing anything different.

Feeling a little bit discombobulated at the moment, cant quite put my finger on why.

Had a nice clary sage bath tonight while DP cooked my dinner, bless him. He is making a real effort to look after me. We have both finished now and have left staff to run both shops, bit scary as that is it for 5 weeks, that is when DP is due to return to our coffee shop and I have no idea when I am going back to work.
