Hi,

Is anyone expecting a March baby?

I've just found out I'm pg following a mc in April at 12 weeks, so I need some company

Can I join BFP this morning!!! Although heavily suspected all last week - I always have the worlds earliest morning sickness!

EDD 16/3/2011, already have dd 2.5yrs. This is my 4th preg however - 2 early miscarrys before I got DD, so have got fingers and toes crossed that my body now knows what its doing so I get to keep this one!

So far have only told OH and a couple of work buddies (couldn't keep it all to myself!) - don't think will tell friends/family until 12wk scan.

I'm so happy I can't stop smiling! (Apart from the feeling ill that is!!!)

superpenguin · 05/07/2010 12:40

Hello everyone and welcome to newbies!

snapdragon hope you manage to get some sleep and feel better!

sunchild sorry to hear you've decided to quit your course, hope it all works out for you whatever you decide and that you will now have more free time!

Am 5 weeks pg today! I find it really weird though that they count it from your last period, so for the 1st 2-3 weeks of pregnancy you are not pregnant! So really my baby is only 2 or 3 weeks old and not 5!

I haven't told anyone yet other than DH and you lot! am in 2 minds between wanting to tell everyone and not wanting to tell anyone!

sorry for all the people with sickness.

I haven't had any sickness yet, fingers crossed, just feel a bit queasy when I wake up but nothing too bad. Boobs still hurting and all my bras are too tight already! But do I want to go out and buy loads of new bras when they're likely to get much bigger yet?

As this is my 1st time I have no idea what all these appointments people are talking about are.
What is a booking in appt?
can anyone summaries what appts you need and when you have them? and which ones everyone has, which only some people have etc. Thanks!

jeffily · 05/07/2010 13:05

Hello all

Back from camping! Everything in the house stinks of wood smoke, and today DD is teething like billy-o and grumpy. This does not help me get on with all the washing/sorting that there is to do. Instead I've put her down for a nap and have my feet up on the sofa.
Well, for all my worrying that people would be asking me why I wasn't drinking, not one person even noticed! I guess if you aren't at a pub then no one offers to get you a drink so it's easier to get away with it. Told my sisters through, DH is sooo excited he couldn't contain himself and had to tell them! Other than that, no one so far, except you lot. Was tempted to tell my jobshare partner t'other day, but decided against for a little bit. Just seems it would be tempting fate.

Most doctor's surgeries have a booking in appointment super, down here it's around 7-8wks, when you go to tell them that you are pg and they refer you to the midwife. Varies a bit depending upon your neck of the woods. Then, in most areas I think, you have a dating scan around 12wks, a 20wk anomoly scan and regular midwife appointments. Neither of my previous pgs were normal, so not 100% sure about that.

On that note- anyone know if I will get offered all the extra scans that I did with DD now that I have had a 'normal' healthy preg? Our first DD had hypoplastic left heart syndrome, discovered at the 20wk scan, and she was born and died at 23wks. So last time I had 4 extra scans including 2 heart ones at Guys, but not sure what to expect this time. DD was also 6 wks prem- never got given a reason for that, does that make a difference to when I should expect this newbie to be born?

Gonna make the most of DD sleeping and have a snooze now. Or maybe eat some biscuits...

mendipgirl · 05/07/2010 15:28

I'm worried that I'm not really pregnant!

I have absolutely no symptoms, last time my boobs really hurt, this time nothing, I'm tired, but I'm always tired (toddler and working)! I haven't had a period and have taken a test, but I feel like I am waiting for more signs. Doesn't help that my DH can't believe it either, he keeps saying "are you sure??". It was our first month trying, which is probably why we are both a bit stunned! But I really want some symptoms......

superpenguin · 05/07/2010 16:08

Hi Mendipgirl - it was my first month trying too and my DH doesn't seem quite sure either and kept asking if i am sure! I eventually told him i had done 4 tests and all were positive so yes I am sure!!!
but if even 1 test says positive then you are definitely pregnant!
maybe you'll have more symptoms later, it's early days so don't worry.

jeffily thanks for the info about appointments. sounds like it varies a bit.

Anyway so I just phoned my GPs and asked if i need to come in and the girl on the phone said ok I'll make you an appointment, so I said: ok so that's what i need to do is it? do i need to come in? then she said she will get the doctor to phone me tomorrow instead! So i already have no faith that anyone knows what they are doing! oh dear. Hope the doctor will be more clued up than the receptionist!

lindamgw · 05/07/2010 16:36

Hi all, just thought I would "check-in" so am not too out of it here! Good to see all the good news carrying on!

I still haven't done a test but really want to! I am now officially overdue my period and still feel the same as I have for the last week-ish! Over strong taste buds, things making me feel sick that normally would have no effect, thirsty always... for the last few days I have felt sick at about 6-7ish too - do I have evening sickness as opposed to morning!???!

Anyway I am now 29 days, but last period was 35 so am still waiting a little longer - haven't told my hubby yet! We haven't properly been trying as such, but haven't been preventing things happening either!

EvianBaby · 05/07/2010 16:37

Hi superpenguin where i am you have a booking appt with your midwife (i phoned the GP's surgery who made the appt for me but didn't have to see the GP). From what I can remember last time i was there about an hour while she went through loads of health related questions, discussed where you would like to have the baby and took some blood. She also discussed the types of screening tests/scans available. She then contacted the hospital on my behalf and they sent me a date for my dating scan. I went at 5 weeks last time (was super keen and excited) but when i phoned the other day the receptionist said I have to be 8 weeks. I'm sure it's different in different areas of the country etc also.

Hi jeffily - good idea to put your DD down for a nap, i let my son sleep for an extra long time on Friday so I could have some time to let the news sink in (and come on MN!). So sorry to hear about your first DD. I am not an expert at all but I would have thought that you will be offered the extra care your were given with your last pregnancy.

I started to feel sick/dizzy etc last night and it continued this morning, i don't think I have been very efficient at work today!
Hi to everyone and congrats to the new people!

Oceanbreeze · 05/07/2010 18:12

Can I join please - been lurking on Mumsnet for the last few months - bizarrely thinking it would be tempting fate to join before a BFP. So, my first ever post. First pregnancy, due date 8 March. Completely clueless, but happy

spilttheteaagain · 05/07/2010 18:25

Congratulations gemma!

sunchild I'm sorry about your course

I think I'm going to have to talk to my boss tomorrow , didn't want to yet but I need to be able to justify why I have refused to clean up chemical spills etc today... and probably why I fell asleep at my desk... and why I feel so darn sick!

I have a midwife appointment on 14/07 which might be the full booking in (hope so), so I get to skive off work early that day . At least there are some perks to this!

linda apparently morning sickness in the evening is quite common. I feel sick before meals at the moment (because I'm hungry) so I'm trying to pre empt that by snacking when I get the first twinge of nausea. Really puts you off your food.

spilttheteaagain · 05/07/2010 18:27

Congrats Ocean, did you get your BFP today?

Incidentally, who here is still peeing on sticks weekly or whatever to check they are still pregnant?

lindamgw · 05/07/2010 18:29

yeah spiltthetea it is at most meals I think, certainly was at lunchtime today!!

Maybe I'll take a test... should do them in the mornings right?

Oceanbreeze · 05/07/2010 18:33

Thanks spiltthetea.

BFP was Saturday...followed by Sunday, and again this morning....so I think I'm gonna struggle with stopping my poas addiction

BUnderTheBonnet · 05/07/2010 18:48

Yes, I'm another POAS addict. I've been using up my supply of ov sticks, which also show positive when you're pg. I also did my last Clear Blue Digi and got 3 weeks + Hurray!

Evening nausea here too. I need to eat constantly to hold it at bay.

I have my doctor's booking in appointment next Monday. They're going to ask when my last period was, and I'm going to tell them I haven't had one, post mc, so they'll ahve no idea when I'm due! I'm pretty sure because of charting my temperatures and stuff, but hopefully they'll send me for an early dating scan. Otherwise I'll shell out for a private one. I won't have a booking in appointment as such with a midwife. I'm using the same independent midwife I used last time with DD, so she has all that info already, and we'll just discuss anything that's different this time.

So far I have told all my family (they were such a support last time when things went wrong) and two people at work for the same reason. Won't be telling DD or work generally until 12 weeks plus.

Has anyone's sense of smell gone mad? My DH just brought me a glass of diet coke, and it smells of over ripe cheese . Bleurgh!

OP posts:
BUnderTheBonnet · 05/07/2010 18:49

mendip don't fret! They'll kick in soon enough. My mum didn't know she was pg till 4 and a half months with me - no symptoms at all, and I'm fine here.

Linda You must have nerves of steel! POAS you crazy lady

OP posts:
spilttheteaagain · 05/07/2010 19:10

linda yup, POAS with your first morning urine. And let us know how you get on! Would it be your first?

B my sense of smell and taste are both more acute. Could definitely smell a lot of vinegar in the tinned tomatoes!

Am just wolfing down some cheese and grapes to stop me feeling too sick for my dinner in a bit. I have no interest in food, it's just like having to refuel and balance some finely balanced nausea gauge. PITA

sarahscot · 05/07/2010 19:33

I think it's time for me to join you. Got a positive today, although a faint one. Was mid afternoon, will do my other First Response in the morning to make sure. If I am pregnant by EDD will be 11/3/11.

spilttheteaagain · 05/07/2010 19:41

Congrats and welcome sarah. Is this your first pregnancy?

Hello

Just thought I would join you all.
Got a faint positive yesterday - we have been trying but I wasn't expecting it all. Kept thinking I was about to start my period.
Have two DS already (3.5 and 5.5) and this one will be due on the 13th March. Although both my boys were 11 days late so probably looking at the end of March instead!

Feeling a bit sick and v tired at the moment - and can't sleep, is anyone else finding that?

Hi ladies...

Have been reading everything, but brain gone a little blank re: who said what.

For the record about sickness in evenings... in my last pregnancy I was sick ALL day everyday for 28 weeks, and with my first it still wasnt restricted to the mornings, but thankfully eased up by about week 14.

I feel a little nauseous today but only a little and I couldnt actually finish my toast or my coffee (the coffee thing is unheard of).

I still havent had a MW call me when the hospital said that they would call on Friday or early this week. Perhaps it is just too early especially as it is baby 3 and previous pregnancies have been pretty straightforward.

Anyone having problems already dealing with younger ones.. my 2.7 year old just wants me to pick him up all the time and he is a big boy, I carried him alot on Sunday and my body has been aching since as if I have been to the gym???

Has anyone also been get aching sensations in their tummy. I wonder if it is placenta attaching or something as it tends to be on one side but is quite sharp. In fact I may have made up placenta attaching.

snapdragon3 · 06/07/2010 10:08

Morning lovelies. Hello to all the new ladies and big congratulations to you.

Linda have you POAS yet? And yes, morning sickness should really be labelled "any time of day sickness". Often first thing in the morning when your blood sugar is low (keep a sugary drink or a snack next to your bed if DH can't fetch you something), or also that mid morning/mid afternoon bit when blood sugar levels drop between meals. Better to keep snacking on fruit or a cereal bar or anything like that to stop it if you can - though in reality that can be easier said than done. When you're tired is another big culprit.

I am finding smells setting me off again - traffic fumes, someone smoking a cig passing me, the blast of heat from the oven door when you open it, putting a bus ticket/car parking ticket in my mouth while I hang onto two kids/steering wheel. Have gone off coffee as well.

Things do vary a lot from area to area, don't they? I have my dating scan next Tuesday 13th because I could be anything from 6-10 weeks. Dating scans here usually done 9-10 weeks. Booking appointment usually done at 12 weeks. Have already suffered the indignity of the scales though so that should be okay . Then I've been asked to decide fairly quickly what I want to do about all the tests they offer - the triple test and whatnot. Didn't bother with my other babies but for some reason am agonising over it this time. Probably because this will have to be my last baby
Anyway, am feeling a bit more human today after a night's sleep. DD and DS are both at nursery today so I need to crack on with all the cleaning, ironing and other stuff I neglect when they are at home with me!

Love to you all and lets keep those BFPs coming! What a privilege it is to be part of a group like this, sharing this amazing experience with you all.

I remember somebody asking about where we all are in the country - I'm in North Yorkshire

snapdragon3 · 06/07/2010 10:13

mixedmama I've had quite an achey tender tum and put it down to stretching of uterus as it grows so darned fast! I know also with DS I had pain from adhesions from previous section. Some people do get implantation pain but that is often really early on and people think it's their period, don't they? Because you can get spotting as well....or maybe I'm misremembering!

BTW another curious pregnancy side effect - I have lost the ability to parallel park. It happened with my other pregnancies and lo and behold, I suck at it again!

spilttheteaagain · 06/07/2010 10:19

snapdragon thank you so much for that tip... put something by my bed to nibble as soon as I wake up! Why didn't I think of that??? The early mornings are miserable at the moment, that would probably help

Congratulations polka, yes I found for about a week that I was really tired but struggling to sleep and waking up constantly. Good news is I can now sleep. But I am still utterly knackered.

Out of interest, does anyone know why blood pressure drops in pregnancy?

snapdragon3 · 06/07/2010 10:28

Spilt it's a pleasure. I got so many useful tips so I like to pay them forward.

Blood Pressure often drops in pregnancy for several reasons. Dehydration is one huge factor. So keep drinking. Remember you are building another little being and your body has to keep the placenta fuelled, so that can be another factor. Your body is working so much harder, let alone the weird hormonal effects. Some people get the opposite effect, of course, but I'm a low BP gal and often find myself going woozy and have been known to faint in sensible places like Sainsburys and doctors surgery....

Keep drinking tonnes, keep snacking, if you can do anything sat down not stood, do it sat down, don't stand up too quickly. Can't remember the rest but it'll come to me... HTH

spilttheteaagain · 06/07/2010 10:36

Thanks snapdragon, that makes sense. I've just been googling and apparently pregnancy hormones have the helpful effect of widening your blood vessels which also contributes to the fainty-ness. And when pregnant your blood also has a tendency to pool in your legs, can't see why though. Will keep drinking!

I nearly went over in Sainsburys yesterday Am sending DH on his own next time!
