Thanks Cadmum. Nice to hear from you. I was just thinking about you this morning!

Come on baby. Come on baby (repeat ad infinitum and you're in LaTrucha land).

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/06/2010 21:27

Congratulations JoKettle .

Lovely to hear from you Cadmum. How is life in Cambodia?

Well finally reached my due date, but obviously baby didn't realise .

virgo1979 · 29/06/2010 22:13

Apologies for the delay in coming on here, just to let you know i had a gorgeous baby boy on 13th June, following an induction due to Obstetric Cholestasis....we are both doing well, he was 7lb 9oz, and still has no name...... will be on soon to catch up with everyone else....congrats to anyone else who has popped in last couple of weeks and good luck to everyone else still waiting...

Barbeasty · 30/06/2010 16:55

Just been catching up on all the action over the last few days.

Ruth Damaris Rose was born on 25th, weighing exactly 9lb.

It all started well, with contractions starting at around 8pm on Wednesday, gradually building (so that I couldn't get any sleep) to every 5 minutes by about 10pm. Phoned the MLU on Thursday morning, and was told to wait until they were 2 minutes apart, or the pain was too much. Went in at 6.30pm Thursday, already at 7.5cm. Got straight in the pool, and on the gas & air. After 4 hours they checked and no progress, so my waters were broken and I got back in the pool. After another hour there was progress but not enough, so I was sent by ambulance to hospital. Not sure if ut was the journey or the driver forgetting to put the handbreak on when we arrived but by the time I got to their delivery room I was fully dilated.

Contractions weren't enough to get her out though, especially when they decided that although the spine was in the right direction, her head was back-to-back. I was put on a drip to increase contractions in the hope that her head would turn, but eventually they gave in and I was taken to surgery and put on a spinal anaesthetic for a forceps delivery.

3rd degree tears, but apparently they're really well stitched and I've got some pretty good pain medication!

We came home today, having transferred back to Stroud for the aftercare. Can't be too complimentary about Stroud. It started when they came around to take the evening drinks order (with biscuits) and carried on from there.

She's lost a bit of weight, but nowhere near the 10% she's allowed. Breast feeding is going ok now, although she was reluctant (to say the least) at first.

Good luck to all those still waiting, and congratulations on all the arrivals so far.

fillybuster · 30/06/2010 18:24

Congratulations Barbeasty and well done on surviving what sounds like a fairly traumatic labour so calmly...hope you're enjoying being home with Ruth now

Lovely to hear from you Cadmum, was just thinking of you the other day...hope Cambodia is proving as interesting as you hoped I'd love to know if PP is still as 'wild west'y as it was when we were there 7 years ago?

All going ok here...Bfing is sort of going ok, but Mia seems incapable of feeding for more than 2-3 minutes without getting really horrendous wind, so out of an hour, I spend about 15 mins feeding her and about 45mins trying to get her to burp. Which is really frustrating...

Today has been spectacularly frustrating...after a night of really windy, slow, crappy feeds the morning started with explosive diarrhoea (all over me and her) when I was feeding in bed at 6.45am. Fortunately I was sitting on a towel and it didn't hit the sheets - and dh was around to lend a hand with the clean up. Mia then threw up (not too badly) over me as soon as I was showered. Back in the shower, clean clothes...M then threw up the next feed in spectacular fashion after about 10 mins feeding (and 20 mins winding) all over both of us. I calmly stripped us both off, changed her, put on clean clothes, put her back on....and she did it again!!!! [grr] Amazingly, with less than 3 minutes feed, she managed to produce another huge arc of milk to soak us both! Then she crashed out cold for a few hours...leaving me a bit worried, but she has taken a reasonable feed this afternoon and was fairly alert for a while afterwards.

Repeat to self, ad nauseam..."this too shall pass"

Hopefully, this is just the result of me being on high grade antibiotics (last day today) and will sort itself out once her tummy has a chance to recover. But any advice hugely appreciated

Went back to hospital yesterday to have a couple of my stitches cut out as they were pulling and were too tight, so fairly sore down below today, but apparently all healing well. Fingers crossed...

Hope the remaining bumps are doing ok...don't lose heart! I had DD on 29th Jan and was the last one on my thread...felt a bit like I'd been left to tidy up the chairs and turn out the lights alone, as everyone else had migrated to a post-natal thread....at least we haven't abandoned you all

imkeepingmum · 30/06/2010 20:31

Hello all just a quick update to say I had a baby girl weighing 7lb 11oz on Monday (28th) by EMCS. All ok and home now, BFing well and generally enjoying being a mummy! Congratulations to the other new mummies and hope the other bumps arrive soon

greensnail · 30/06/2010 21:17

congratulation Virgo, barbeasty and imkeepingmum

fillybuster - sounds like it could well be the anti-b's upsetting her tummy. Fingers crossed for you that it improves soon.

Virgo - sorry to hear about the cholestasis. Has it cleared up quickly after the birth? My symptoms cleared up immediately after my first pregnancy, but have taken longer to go this time. Are you getting any follow up? If the doctors aren't already doing this, make sure they take bloods at your 6 week check to see that everything is definitely back to normal. This was done as an afterthought for me last time, but it proved very useful to have this set of blood results proving that things had returned to normal inbetween my pregnancies as my liver function went off so early on in my second pregnancy my consultant felt that something other than just OC was going on.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/06/2010 21:26

I've taken out a few of the people that we haven't heard from for a very long time too this time.

Congratulations to the latest arrivals - Barbeasty, virgo and imkeepingmum.

madamefreckle · 01/07/2010 00:13

I'd forgotten how little time there is to do anything when you have a newborn...hence my absence. However, I am LOVING the tiny baby days this time round! I spent the first 3 months wishing the days away with ds but this time it's amazing. I'm so much more relaxed. Emma and I are quite happy sharing the spare bed so I barely have to wake up for feeds and DP gets a really good night's sleep so isn't arsey in the morning and he has the energy to do a grand job entertaining DS before he goes off to work.

Anyone who may still be worried about induction, although there are some bad stories out there, my induction was actually really good (despite my enormous reluctance to be induced and many tears shed). I felt amazingly in control and focussed throughout. It took two pitocin pessaries and 10 hours to get anything going but then contractions were suddenly 3 mins apart but not intense. DP was sent home at that point as it was 9pm and I wasn't in established labour. Things progressed steadily and I was put on the monitor a couple of times to check the baby's heartbeat but most of the time I was free to wander. I had my TENS which possibly helped a bit when contractions started to get stronger. My mantra was 'It's only pain, no injury is happening' - This and really focussing on the breathing really helped. By 4.30am I felt like I needed more pain relief and I asked them to ring my DP to get him to come in. I was taken up to delivery and had gas and air while girating on a birthing ball. The MW then examined me and said I was 5cm dilated. I was a quite disappointed...sensing another 5 hours or more ahead of me. After 20 mins, DP arrived and very soon we made a dash between contractions to the pool room. I didn't think I'd like being in the pool but the instant I walked into the room I felt elated. It was a lovely big room with open windows and a fresh dawn breeze floating in. With my first contraction in the pool, I suddenly felt like pushing - and 3 or 4 pushes later, Emma was out! Lying in the pool for 20 mins after the birth, holding Emma and watching her gradually turn from bluish to pink was just amazing.

Barbeasty - I really wanted to go to Stroud but due to being induced I couldn't. It sounds like it lives up to its reputation despite you not actually being able to deliver there. Congratulations to you and welcome Ruth!

I'm so far behind but want to say...Congratulations to
MonkeyMargot - on your brilliantly named boys! Just amazing weights. Hope you're all doing well.
Congratulations also to: Suzy1975 and Sam, earlyonemorning and Edgar, sobloodystupid and Stella , Gaelicsheep and Robin, Fillybuster and Mia, Nizzynoodles and Samuel, summerhols and Lilly, JoKettle and James and imkeepingmum Phew! .

Such good weights on this thread! Emma is a tiddler - finally hit the 7lb mark today at 2 weeks old. Sunshineday - Really pleased to hear that Faye is home now.

Cadmum - Lovely that you dropped by. Hope everything's going well for you.

madamefreckle · 01/07/2010 00:16

)h - Virgo - Congratulations to you too!

Barbeasty · 01/07/2010 10:02

Madamefreckle It certainly lives up to its reputation. And one thing I did mean to say is that while I was waiting to be discharged from Gloucester, was every woman leaving being given a lecture on why not to co-sleep, and that it's dangerous.

First night in Stroud when Ruth was fractious (to say the least!), the midwife came in, swaddled her and showed me how to co-sleep safely. So much easier, and sums up their attitudes I think. Surely better to know how to do something safely than be lectured on why it is wrong!

sunshineday · 01/07/2010 12:07

good to hear from you Cadmum hope everything is going ok and you and your family have settled well in your new home.
Congratulations on the new arrivals
hope everything is going well with all the babies and they are feeding well and having good weight gains and hopefully not to long to go for the mummies still in waiting.

Faye is doing great, breast feeding well and is now weighing a big 5 lb 9 oz! She had her first immunisations yesterday and she sobbed poor thing I felt very mean indeed.

AlwaysHopeful · 01/07/2010 14:54

Filly much sympathy for you. I experienced something similar with DD due to her reflux which lasted until she was weaned. All the clothes changing and laundry can be very wearing... Fingers crossed for Mia improving very soon for you.

Things here are far better this time round than they were last time. First babies are a massive learning curve and I felt the whole time DD was tiny that I wasn't getting the hang of it at all. This time, I feel much more chilled out and stable.

Best wishes LaT, CSWS and all those still waiting for their little treasures to arrive.

AlwaysHopeful · 01/07/2010 15:02

As if to prove a point, George just threw up on me....!

whenwillisleepagain · 01/07/2010 16:44

congratulations to jokettle, Virgo, barbeasty and imkeepingmum

filly sorry you are having tough time with reflux

thank you for all that experience that various of you shared re: bedtime routine when you have 2 kids. Due to, er, having 2 kids, haven't had a chance to post for ages. CSWS thanks for link to bath support - turns out we have a cheaper mothercare version, so cheap in fact that one of the suction feet came out during a practice run... but am using for Alice's bath now.

Have spent a fair bit of time on the bf section during the last 10 days, but hurrah, I have left the land of mastitis, and what a relief that is. Alice had 6 week check Tuesday, can't believe we've made it that far, - GP said to keep an eye on her weight (25th centile) but he's not worried - altho he was to start with, as someone has wrongly plotted her weight a few weeks ago so it looked like something alarming going on - those charts, they can be a bit anxiety provoking.

Alice has taken to being very wakeful and eating lots during the day, which obv is far preferable to nights, but not great for DS when he's at home. And greensnail looking at your bf thread, life not much fun for DS while I've had bf problems either - worst bit being his having to sit in bf drop-in while everyone watched me squirt milk into a plastic cup.

bluesnowfalcon · 02/07/2010 06:49

Just a very quick post to update.

Corey was born tuesday at 2.20pm after a 19 hour labour and emergency c-section. He weighed in at 8lb 11 3/4oz and got stuck!

we arrived home yesterday afternoon

whenwillisleepagain · 02/07/2010 08:01

bsf congratulations on the arrival of Corey, that sounds like a gruelling experience. Hope you are getting some rest now you're home. Lovely name!

NowWeAre4 · 02/07/2010 12:30

congrats bluesnowfalcon and all other new baby arrivals!

fillybuster · 02/07/2010 12:32

Quick question ladies: a few months back some of you posted a couple of links to sites that sell underwired nursing bras...I thought I had bookmarked them but can't find them now If you have a moment, please could you re-post? Thanks

fillybuster · 02/07/2010 12:33

PS Any news from LaT????? I hear a rumour things may be happening but nothing on FB or our other post-natal thread either....

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/07/2010 13:03

Ooh where have you heard that rumour filly. She's supposed to be keeping me company to the end!!

underwired nursing bra.

Congrats to bluesnowfalcon. Sorry you ended up with EMCS, but hurrah for managing to get home so soon afterwards. The sweetest little boy ever in our village (age 2) is called Corey .

Another day, another sweep here. Head has moved down some since Monday, but cervix still pretty much the same, so looks like I still have a while to wait. A third sweep booked for at home on Tuesday, but that will also be the day that the mw will book my induction, and the weekend might mean a fight to try and delay it enough for my liking, as they don't like to start inductions on Fridays or Saturdays.

herewegrow · 02/07/2010 13:35

I'm still here with you CSWS. Oooooooh how exciting for LaT!!!

I am six days over now and being offered a sweep on Sun, not overly keen to have one but would rather that than a full induction

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/07/2010 13:45

A sweep really is no big deal ime herewegrow. I've had loads of them and never found them painful.

greensnail · 02/07/2010 14:34

I'd been wondering about LaT too, hope its all going well for her!

Hoping something happens before you find yourself under pressure to induce before you feel ready to CSWS. Same goes to herewegrow and anyone else still waiting.

HV had to cancel her visit today, so am still waiting to find out if she's managed to put on any weight - she'll be coming on monday instead. I'm convinced her cheeks look a bit chubbier though, so am not too worried.

muchchocolate · 02/07/2010 14:39

Hi all and congrats to everyone who has had their baby and sympathy to all who are still waiting.

I've been following thread but just never get round to posting.

Lots of great birth stories and lovely baby names.

I'm 5 days overdue today and feeling v down today - managed to keep myself busy the rest of the week but today been in the house with DS and going slowly mad as well as feeling like this baby might never come.

I just don't have the energy to keep up with my DS who is 2.5 and I feel so bad for him as he is so fed up from being in the house with boring, tired mummy so much.

Got a sweep booked on Monday if nothing over the weekend - I just hope something starts soon as the idea of another week of this is not good - my bump is so low I can't sit comfortably at all and driving is pretty tricky now too.

Sorry for the moan!!

Hope all goes well birth-wise for us remaining few!
