goodname you are not on your own at all! You are not likely to be doing anything wrong - many newborns are the same. I also had a bad night and ended up bringing george in bed with me. He wouldnt feed and wouldnt wind and wouldnt cuddle! The sleep deprivation is torture but it doesnt last forever.

I would recommend trying a sling. I have just got a front carrier for george as the two slings i had bought just werent for me. The new one suits george and i and does make things easier in the afternoons when he is restless. My evenings are just spent feeding, though. He wont let me do anything else! DD is getting upset that i dont put her to bed anymore, which is upsetting me. If i bath her, george is screaming for me, if i feed george, she is crying for me. Poor DH feels like shit because neither of them want him and he is trying so hard to help.

Oh, happy days!

herewegrow · 23/06/2010 10:41

Sympathies to every stuggling either being heavily pregnant or with newborns.

Bit of a me post. Been struggling the last couple of days with pains before bed. Crampy, backache, tightenings etc then everything to calm down during the night. Really don't remember having these episodes during my last pregnancy

Anyway planning on doing a few jobs round the house this morning so that I am ready to lay on the sofa with an ice cream for the first half of the football. . . .

sobloodystupid · 23/06/2010 11:27

Hey all. Just to let you know my lovely little girl arrived 5 days ago without being induced (Hurrah!). Stella is 8 Ibs 8 oz and apart from being a little jaundiced is beautiful. Hope to update you all soon with the whole story

MrsDmamee · 23/06/2010 12:13

goodname hope your ok, the first few weeks/months with newborn is always tough they want to feel close all day and night. and are as unsure as you how to comfort themselves.
As others have said try a sling too during the day and at night try handing him over to DH if you feel its not hunger.

I'm on the final slow crawl to my due date 39+1 today, havent really got any texts or msgs from anyone, must be the 3rd baby =less excited relatives.

Even my DH is so laid back that he said yesterday he must one of these days give me his pager number in work after he fixes the pager

MrsDmamee · 23/06/2010 12:25

CONGRATS sobloodystupid and welcome baby Stella

LaTrucha · 23/06/2010 13:07

Hello everyone.

Totally fed up today. 39 weeks and cannot believe it is feasible I will be pregnant for potentially another three weeks. I have no patience and am knackered no matter how much I lie down. I have a tummy upset and am feeling lousy. DH is being great. Dd is being great (for a two year old). I am being a louse!

Somebody slap me.

Congratualtions on the birth of baby Stella!

RnB · 23/06/2010 14:03

I have put a photo of Artemis on my profile if anyone is interested...

Congratulations to all the new mums

Goodname - you have my sympathies, is so so tough and the sleep deprivation is torture. The only think I can say is - it will pass. Sending an very unMN (((Hug))

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/06/2010 14:53

Oh another lovely name from sobloodystupid - congratulations .

Very arty shot there RnB!

Buggy has arrived (baby jogger city select) . No car seat adaptors yet, so technically couldn't put baby in it at the moment, but tis nice to have a new toy to play with!

Hot hot hot here though. Will hopefully be able to take it relatively easy for rest of day and let my mother do the playing with dc and father do the school run, whilst I watch the footie. Might even go get myself an ice cream to eat whilst I watch!

AlwaysHopeful · 23/06/2010 15:11

Beautiful photos RnB

myhandslooksoold · 23/06/2010 20:01

lovely baby photos RnB Artemis looks so alert!

Hurrah hurrah it was 'showtime' this evening!! Loads of hardenings no pain yet. My brill DH is out getting some groceries ready for the grandparents and they are on standby.

I had a huge burst of energy this morning and did the most detailed clean and hoover of both our cars this morning- quite a challenge. The cars are fit for our princess!

roundabout1 · 23/06/2010 21:17

my hands - yay - hope something happens for you soon

rnb - love the photo & the name

sobloodystupid - congrats on the birth of stella

I really feel for you ladies heavily preggers in this heat, also re the endless calls & txts, it infuriated me in my last few weeks.

I'm struggling with the sleep deprivation at the mo, sore nipples from allowing lo to comfort suck at night, in the end gave in just so I could sleep. We are semi co-sleeping, have a crib at the side of the bed which Lauren sleeps in at the beg of the night but from about 1am ish through til morning she comes in bed with me. Dp is relegated to the spare bed, he's a really heavy sleeper & it worries me him sleeping in bed with a baby - think he's quite glad to get away tbh! I even resorted to a dummy earlier, Lauren seems really colicky & after an hour of screaming & struggling to get dd1 to bed I gave in, did work a treat although struggled to get her latched on properly for a feed after.

poguemahone · 23/06/2010 22:50

rnb - what a beautiful photo of Artemis

sobloodystupid - congratulations on the birth of Stella

Both babies have excellent names!

It seems like no-one's getting any sleep - neither those waiting to give birth nor those with newborns. Wishing you all a good night's sleep tonight!

Magnus (pic on profile) is now 2 weeks old and it feels like he's always been here. Feeding's going well now and my nipples have healed so it's only nippy when he latches on. This is my 3rd baby and I never did get the hang of feeding a newborn without mangling my nipples, but it always has resolved itself by about day 14. 14 days can seem like a long time, though.

And georgee your comment "My feet are puffed up and fat like little baby feet" was inspired!

georgee · 24/06/2010 07:15

Ha ha, well they still are poguemahone! I look at them with continual wonder and disbelief!

Just a quick update from me. MW yesterday. I was either 40+11 or 40+2 depending on whether you're going by scan dating or LMP. Was hoping for a sweep but apparently babe's head is not even low enough to do this. Plus looking rather posterior. So some work to do - last night I draped myself stomach-down over various items of furniture and went for a good walk with DH.

In terms of where we go from here, I'm resisting induction because of the discrepancy in dates but will be monitored from Friday.

Weirdly feel better having got this sorted - although no closer to having the baby, at least there is a plan ... I was worried about being induced just for the sake of it too. But actually there aren't any induction spaces here for a week anyway which is probably why they're taking the monitoring approach with me!

Hope everyone has a good day, whether meeting the needs of your new babes or struggling on with bumps. Hoping for some action for you myhands!

LaTrucha · 24/06/2010 13:56

Afternoon all.

Babies MAgnus and Artemis are lovely.

I do sympathise on the sleep deprivation front, although I'd rather be doing something useful, like feeding a newborn than heaving my bump from one saide to the other all night.

I actually thought I was on my way last night: really crampy, upset tummy and sick feeling, but no. By midnight it had all passed away.

Had check with a different consultant today. Baby not engaged or only a bit. Hated this consultant but I won't bore you. Told me lies about VBAC and had the 'we'll allow you to do x,y,z' attitude. Erm, no. If I give you permission to do medical proceedures on my body, then YOu will be allowed to do so. Just annoying, no more than that. None of the doctors, consultants and midwives here seem to take a blind bit of notice of any of the others!

Saucepanman · 24/06/2010 14:29

Marking my place for later on the off chance Gabriel allows me back to post!

Elena67 · 24/06/2010 15:05

Afternoon all. I was due for induction (or just the gel at least as, like LaT, I am fairly keen to have a say in what happens to my body!)tomorrow, but the hospital have phoned with a vacancy so I am in this afternoon to be checked, monitored and have a (gentle) bash at getting him or her on the way. Wish me luck...

georgee · 24/06/2010 15:15

Oooh good luck Elena - due date buddy! Hope it goes really well, keep us posted.

whenwillisleepagain · 24/06/2010 16:31

good luck elena

congratulations sbs on arrival of Stella - gorgeous name

my whole life seems to be revolving around boob problems and various debates on feeding section about what to do - it's been a tedious saga of plugged ducts which I had never heard of until the last few days and now know more about than I would ever wish to, and potential mastitis - which I've been given ABs for.

On a more forward-looking note, those of you with more than one child - would be really interested to know how you manage bed and bath routines. I had agreed with DH that we'd just go along with Alice's flow for first 6 weeks, but as of next week, I want to start doing not exactly a routine, but having some fixed points in the day like bath and evening preparations for bed - so far we have struggled to find time to bath her before 9 or 10 at night as doing stuff with 3 yr old DS and keeping his day reasonably consistent has been about all we're capable of. NOt sure I'm being very creative about it - always thought two kids would be a challenge too far for me!

fillybuster · 24/06/2010 20:15

Mia Rae finally arrived (under her own steam - yay !) on Tuesday afternoon, weighing in at 9lbs 3oz (which was a heck of a lot more than the growth scans had said!)

I never thought this would happen to me, but the whole thing was pretty amazing...I'll try to keep it brief:

Induction on Monday was cancelled because of contractions that started on Sunday night - I stayed up most of the night with them but in the end they stopped by lunchtime so we re-set the induction for Tuesday morning. Tis time I was quite happy about it, especially as I was knackered from the previous night! Monday evening the contractions started again, but not strongly, and this time I ignored them and went to bed assuming they would disappear. Woke up at 4am and was cxing every 10 mins, dozing in-between, still convinced this was 'nothing'.

At 6 I was getting very uncomfortable so got up, and suddenly realised I was having proper cxs every 3-5 mins ! Phoned the hospital and agreed I would go into the birthing centre for assessment (please remember that my previous 2 labours nothing had progressed when this happened!) and then go for induction on the labour ward if necessary.

Woke dh up at 7 with the words "sorry sweetie, but I'm having contractions every 3 minutes and need to go to hospital" , got into the birthing centre at 8, straight into a beautiful, huge room with a pool with lovely mw...who checked me....and I was already 3-4cm

Had some co-dydramol (I'm allergic to opiates, so can't have pethidine anyway), walked around, bounced on the ball etc for a few hours and Mia turned the right way round At 12 I was around 5-6cm, so used the pool for a couple of hours (always wanted to do that, never thought I would get the chance ), was around 7-8 by 3pm, then everything got a bit slow, around the same point that I suddenly realised I was going to be doing the whole birth thing without an epidural....arrgh, panic!!

Then my amazing ante-natal midwife turned up to see how I was doing...none of her afternoon patients had turned up for clinic so she came along to help out. Perfect timing - she's the head mw in the birthing centre and Mia had got rather stuck. At 9cm after 1.5 frustrating hours she reached in and helped Mia over an internal ridge that was stopping progress and then suddenly everything happened really well. My waters finally broke with a vengeance all over dh and the 2 mws and the Mia came out

DH was absolutely amazing the whole way through, did loads of full-on back rubbing, lots of verbal support, generally brilliant

Only a tiny bit of tearing and Mia was out...

We spent a night in (due to muconium in the waters), but all is fine - we're now home and DS and DD seem quite impressed. Mia is feeding brilliantly, and my nipples are coping despite being a bit sore and a few blisters (my fault due to poor latch on the first night). I'm exhausted, but not in a bad way - the labour was very physical and mobile - but delighted to have finally had the sort of labour and delivery I always hoped for but had kind of given up on.

Hope all the other new babies are doing well and those with bumps are surviving the last few days/weeks. Will post some photos tomorrow

LaTrucha · 24/06/2010 20:24

So happy for you Filly! Well done you and well done Mia.

greensnail · 24/06/2010 20:31

Congratulations fillybuster. Brilliant to hear you had such a positive experience Mia is a very pretty name too.
Congratulations to everyone else I've missed too!

Have had a pretty busy few days so am feeling quite exhausted at the moment. Had my liver scan yesterday which looked fine - good news. Hope my bloods come back clear too.

Alice is still jaundiced so we've been referred back to the hospital jaundice clinic to get her checked out. However, as the clinic is on tuesdays and it was decided on tuesday that she needs to go, we've actually got another week's reprieve to try and clear the jaundice and get the appointment cancelled!

whenwillisleepagain I'm also planning to start a gentle bedtime routine from when Alice is 6 weeks. I don't bath the girls every day so that's not part of our bedtime routine here, but my plan is to do DD1's bedtime as normal for now, and then do Alice's afterwards, hoping to combine the 2 at some vague point in the future. I would also be interested to know what other people do.

Hope you and Gabriel are ok saucepanman

LittleRobbo · 24/06/2010 21:05

Yay Filly Congratulations on the birth of Mia Flump! Cant wait to see pics.

LittleRobbo · 24/06/2010 21:06

RnB wow you and your DC's are stunning! Artemis is a gorgeous name too.

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/06/2010 21:29

Oh congratulations filly! Am so pleased that you finally got a good birth experience with a non back to back labour .

whenwilli - hard to remember exactly what we did re routines when I had dc2, but I think that by about 3 weeks we might have fallen into a routine of bathing them both together (ds had one of these which lifts the baby high enough for the other child to still have a decent depth of bath) and getting them ready for bed, and then I would put dd (elder) to bed before giving ds another feed. Ds would only sleep on us for the first 13 weeks or so though, so he'd then stay downstairs with me or dh until one of us (usually me) went to bed with him. Before 3 weeks we didn't bother with regular bathing for the baby - totally unnecessary task really, which we only started doing so that we could form some sort of routine and keep him occupied happily whilst dd was in the bath!

gizmo · 24/06/2010 22:24

Just a quick message to say congratulations Filly: I am extraordinarily pleased to hear you have finally had a functional, ordinary delivery...hope you can start to claw back some energy over the next few weeks.

Also some impressed swearing in the Gizmo household at the amount of baby you've been carrying around, MonkeyMargot.

Hester is 5 weeks today and 3 days past her proper due date and is showing signs of really waking up, with a couple of periods of proper alertness each day. I'm hoping to gently nudge these around to start to work her into a little routine and get her to notice the difference between day and night - not a subject she is particularly great at.

Goodname she was showing some signs of similar behaviour to your problem, and it is torment, I agree. I'm nodding at the advice re slings and having baby in bed with you, another trick which I have been trying has been feeding from the same breast for a number of feeds to try and avoid oversupply of foremilk (Kellymom is quite helpful on the subject). If you're getting lots of explosive poos and windiness, it might be helpful, particularly if you find you get plenty of milk when you express. Good luck.
