Not a double buggy but we just went to look at pushchairs today and now have to decide between the iCandy Cherry and the Babysafe Oyster, both of which look like they would meet our needs well:

  • good for use in town
  • compatible with car seat
  • rear-facing option
  • easily collapsible
  • will fit in our small car (a Micra, though I didn't tell the sales lady the exact make, so hopefully still ok)

Now just to decide between the two! The Oyster has got really lovely colour options [shallow]...

31 + 7

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 03/07/2010 17:46

No experience of either comixminx sorry! If both give you what you want I'd definately go with the nicest colour Doesn't 31+7 make you 32?

I don't really have kicks anymore just general squirming! The baby was regularly asleep when I was active but is now moving around even when I'm walking and starts as soon as I lay in bed at night!

For childminding I have a kingswood 3-wheeler double buggy which I love, it's easy to push, plenty of room and turns in a tiny space but I never have to fold it- just park it in the garage and it doesn't fold very small but is great in the forest! Not planning to buy one as DS will be 3 and 4 months when baby's here and hoping to use a sling for at least the first few months.

comixminx · 04/07/2010 07:46

"Doesn't 31 + 7 make you 32?" Nope - I even count on my fingers each time to check! The count rolls over on a Sunday so today I am 32 weeks.

I'm with you on the squirming - plenty of it here too!

Monstermuncher · 04/07/2010 10:38

Eek! Some of you are so organised, I haven't even thought about a pram/travel system yet. We have a few things from when DD was a baby that I really need to dig out and dust off. 9 weeks to go, sometimes it seems like thats no time at all sometimes it seems like ages.

Had a lovely treat yesterday to cheer myself up as work has been a bit pants - I had a Clarins Mum To Be Treatment. Lots of lovely massaging, baby loved it and was visibly rolling around.

31 weeks
3 weeks left at work - yay!

MammyG · 04/07/2010 22:48

I have the phil and teds double and love it. I have never taken the wheel off when folding it so that wasnt an issue. Before that I had the mothercare urban detour and loved all the space in that. I have to do a lot of walking as I live just out of the town and am uphill so a buggy that is light and easy to manoevre was a must.
Hubby gone camping for a few days so on my winsome with the boys. Could not sleep last night. Felt like i had drank 30 cups of coffee and just watched the clock. Finally got to sleep at 3am and boys woke at 6am! Joyful! Baby really takes off when I lie down and even have to wear a
pad by night now as I get very strong kicks right into the bladder! Pregnancy really is the gift that keeps on giving!

bellabelly · 04/07/2010 23:16

Have just this moment bought a bargainous Phil and Ted's sport double on ebay. Glad to hear so many people like them! We've already got a side-by-side (Maclaren twin techno) but it's annoying when yu can't fit into shop doorways etc. Checked out the Phil&Teds at BabiesRUs earlier today, the shop assistant showed us how to fold it - definitely didn't need to take any wheels off so maybe that is a different model?

My bump is feeling v uncomfortable now, have had to dig out my old physio support tube - looks like a surgical stocking that goes over your bump. So darn sexy! [cynical]

SkaterGrrrrl · 05/07/2010 13:43

@ MammyG's luxury pedicure.

Hope you had fun at Glasto JaysForth!

Didnt mean to freak anyone out asking about hospital bags... I am due on 1 Sept so a whole month before people on this thread expecting late Sept!

I have ordered [[http://www.mamasandpapas.com/product-pliko-pramette-polka/185783003/type-i/ this Mamas & Papas pram (turns from flat pram with baby facing you into sitting buggy with baby facing out).

32 weeks!

Mamas & Papas pram

sassy34264 · 05/07/2010 16:27

I've yet to buy a pram as i'm struggling to find one that lies down like a pram and also comes off the chassis. I like the Tako twin pram, but don't know if it comes off the chassis or if they are any good. Anyone heard anything about them. I have emailed the company about returns and they say it can be returned if it's not suitable; so may get it and see.

Went to hospital today for my first diabetic and pregnant appointment and had the fright of my life. Doctor decided that it would be in babies best interests to give me steroid injections (then and there) for babies lungs in case they come soon! Didn't even have time to think. Got upset (again....... it's a theme during this pregnancy). Wanted to know things like side effects ie, chances of lung problems, allergies asthma, etc but they said there is none. Luckily the consultant (who was supposed to see me but was on labour ward) was rung and she decided that it would be best to wait till i'm 32 weeks instead. Anyone else's baby needed steroid injections for pre-term?

cinnamongreyhound · 05/07/2010 17:05

Sorry that your first appointment didn't go well sassy34264, how was the diabetic side of it though?

A friend of mine had them with her second pregnancy as she went into premature labour at 26 weeks. She had an infection and once she got intravenous antibiotics the labour stopped and she ended up being overdue, no signs of any ill effects for her litte man- big strong boy, born in October last year.

Stickhasgrownup · 05/07/2010 17:18

What a thing to spring on you sassy , I guess they are thinking the babies may come early as they are big. I've no experience with this though, so can't offer any advice.

I just wish this baby would turn around... really want a home birth... I know its apparently early days but I'm now nearly 32 weeks and my other two were always head down.

Started to pack a hospital bag after reading this thread last week... not sure what to put in it for a change of clothes though. Judging by the weather we've had of late I'm thinking summery but who knows in the uk! Ended up half heartedly bunging a tracksuit in (but too hot to iron it - so if I need it sooner rather than later I'll look a state!)

Can't really get my head around it though as still think I'll have it at home and won't need a bag (didn't last time).

Should prob get in the loft and dig out baby bits - but again its too hot! Is anyone else being utterly pathetic in this weather?

ooosabeauta · 05/07/2010 18:57

One of my antenatal friends has got exactly that buggy Skatergrrrl, she used it from birth and is still using it now, nearly two years later, so that's got to be an endorsement

Sorry to hear about your appointment sassy. It's awful when they spring things on you and you want to be able to research and decide but feel pressurised at the same time.

I'm feeling pretty rough still, probably in part due to the weather, and dh being too busy with work to help out a lot, ds having outgrown his nap and my bp getting very low which makes me rock and reel all over the place! Ds has identified my weakness and is making the most of me not being able to keep up with him... Sooo tired!

28+4

MammyG · 05/07/2010 22:33

Sassy - I hate when things are sprung on me but you must have been reeling when it had to do with the babies. Have you managed to get research done on it since?
Ooosa - My bp only picked up two weeks so big sympathy from me. Everyone keeps saying 'its better than high bp' would love to see them try to get thru the day with it when there are other children to mind and jobs to do etc. I was so ill with mine that last fortnight has been a real respite. Drink as much as you can as it really does help.
Have surprised myself by managing days without DH quite well. Havent been sick tho so that made a big difference. Still cant wait to have him back as am tired. Little man has a cold and spent last night in with me - not much sleep had between him kicking me and bump having a party.
Anyone else suffering pain with their gums? I feel like the nerves of my teeth are exposed.

sassy34264 · 06/07/2010 08:31

Cinnamon Well, they have wrote in my notes that i seem to be controlling it through diet, but they gave me a prescription for tablets anyway......just incase! So if my blood sugars start getting irratic i have to take them.

stick, oosa, mammy It was definately sprung on me. I let out an anguished 'no' before bursting into tears. Midwife was all hugging me and trying to reassure me, whilst the big butch male doctor looked very uncomfortable. You'd think they'd be used to hormonal crying pregnant woman by now!
After looking on the internet i'm reassured that's it's ok. If they do come early they have a much better chance if they have had it, than if they have not.

Anyway i always seem to be posting bad things. Decided to post all the things i can be thankful for during this pregnancy.
-I don't get constipated, so therefore never had piles.
-I've never had varicose veins
-I've yet to get a stretch mark (got loads from previous pregnancy, praise to the bio oil!!!!!!!
-my spd disappeared overnight.

sassy34264 · 06/07/2010 10:12

I mean erratic! Baby brain x2.....

skyeplusbump · 06/07/2010 12:37

hello! im quite new here, and posted this exact thing on pregnancy forum earlier but....
i had to go in for fetal monitoring yesterday after a nasty bug on sunday id been having cramps and back pain, midwife wanted me to go into nearest big hospital for a check, everything seemed fine(even had one of those tests that tell if your going to go into labour)
anyhoo cramps died down and we came home, today ive been doing the normal stuff around the house, with dd, and the cramps are back...so what do you think, should i be worried?!

Love2Dance · 06/07/2010 13:07

Hang in there Ladies!

Sassy34264 sorry to hear about the stress of GD. Better out than in re the cry at Dr's. Atta girl on the positives!

Stickhasgrownup, have you thought about acupuncture if baby hasn't turned after a few weeks? I can't remember the name of the manual manipulation the Dr's do if baby is breech, but it's less invasive I think. Something to do with encouraging the energy flows to allow the uterus to warm up and encourage baby to move.

Oosabeauta and MammyG, sorry to hear about tiredness. Any chance of occasional naps? I was waiting for the second trimester bloom and energy but it never came.

Had a prang today in a car park when I was reversing into a space. Don't you just hate that Oh fu*k feeling? The other driver hadn't noticed my reversing lights and indicator I think and was merrily driving along to the exit. Luckily no damage to either car! I said to the other driver "there's a lesson to be learned there...by both of us." She ruefully agreed. Nice we could both be civilised. I wonder if a bloke would have been the same? .

The loft and the spare room are desperate for a sort out. Cue lots of displacement activity by me or total can't be arsed moods brought on by heat.

We are getting our kitten this week. We were going to wait until after the birth, but on reflection we decided it's better to settle a new pet before baby mand DS will love it. If we didn't work the hours we do we'd love a dog too... I think DH has forgotten I shouldn't touch cat litter when preg. Hope it grows into a big bold boy cat. Yesterday I found a HUGE (dead) rat in our garden. I guess another cat (or fox?) must have killed it, but nice to have our own rat/fox deterrant.

Please may I join in?

#2, EDD 18/09/10, Swindon, Surprise!

sassy34264 · 06/07/2010 20:59

skyeplusbump I would be worried......but that's not saying much as i have done nowt but worry! I would definately ring mw or even labour ward.

Welcome parkj83

Stickhasgrownup · 06/07/2010 21:24

skyeplusbump - Give them a ring... better safe than sorry!

Love2Dance - I'm giving it until 34 weeks until I try anything myself... have also heard that osteopathy can help by lining you up and giving the baby as much room as possible that way up iyswim! Trying not to worry as yet as midwife says it doesn't mean anything at this stage and they don't worry until 36 week check... so 34 is my comprimise! So, 16 days left for LO to turn

Have horrid cold coming today... how can this be happening in all this lovely weather?!

Swordfishtrombones · 06/07/2010 21:49

Hi everyone, and welcome to parkj83.

Sorry to hear about your woes Sassy but at no stretchmarks. Mine appeared with DD1 and now with DC3 on the way my belly looks like a road map!

Stick - this baby has been either breech or transverse on each midwife visit so I'm also thinking of ways to encourage it to turn. I think s/he still has too much room in there! My sister recommends kneeling with your legs wide apart at the top of the stairs...I know, I know, go with it.....and slowly walking your hands down until your top half is pointing downwards. I'm not sure if this just confuses the baby or not, but I will be trying it after 34 weeks! I think if you have a short bit of stairs (where they turn or whatever) it might be a bit safer!

Got the 34 wk scan in 2 weeks to check whether my placenta has moved up or not. Once I know then I can start planning bags and childcare etc. If it hasn't budged then I guess I'll be booking myself in for a CSection - booo. Fingers crossed though...

Sorry Skyeplusbump. I didn't mean to ignore your post. I didn't see it so may have cross-posted. Is everything ok? Please let us know.

Hello and welcome Parkj83. How old's your first?

sassy34264 · 06/07/2010 23:11

swordfishtrombones
I'm amazed at the no stretch marks. Think someone must be feeling sorry for me and decided to give me a break. I am half expecting them anytime soon though and if it makes you feel any better i've never met anyone with stretch marks as bad as mine from dd pregnancy. They go way over my belly button (bad for a bikini, but i wear one anyway) and some are nearly a bloody inch wide!
Also, with regards to your turning the baby comment- visualising myself walking down the stairs with my hands until i am torso upside down- thinking how the bloody hell would i get back up!!!!! I weigh half an elephant, think my puny arms would give way and even if they didn't can't see DP having the strength to lift me back up, and he works out at the gym!! Giggling away at this thought. The fire brigade would have to be called with a winch!

Debs75 · 06/07/2010 23:26

Sassy I was looking at that pram when picking a double and if DD had been a year younger I would of got it. I am pretty sure that it does come off the chassis as it turns around and you have carrycots which is good. Plus £300 on Amazon is A good bargain.

I'm hoping the diabetes doc will let me go full term as I am coping with tabs and baby is on 50% for growth. Keep asking them how far they are willing to let you go with extra monitoring and you could get to 36 weeks. Still it will probably depend on how huge they get. whyen I had DD2 a women had twins who weighed 8lb each so you could have a way to go.

sassy34264 · 07/07/2010 08:07

debs75
Thanks with regard to the pram- think it's a definate that i'm going to get it.
With regards to the diabetes, i have been told that they will be willing to let me get to 38 weeks as long as there are no immediate problems.
I'm hoping for this for 2 reasons- one for babies sake and two, i'm still camping out at my mums (Scream) and i still have optimistic hopes of getting in my own home before babies arrive. It is not plastered yet, as no ceiling upstairs at all cos of the loft conversion and doesn't have any central heating yet. There is no kitchen and bathroom and obviously we need to paint and put flooring of some kind down!!!!! Sigh, there is no hope.
