Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BooStar · 30/06/2010 12:23

Been away for ages due to holiday, manic work and Glastonbury... which went really well & had a great time although have had to sleep for nearly 2 days solid to recover! Time to start winding down now I think.

Took ages to catch up from old and new thread and unfortunately due to preggo brain I can't really remember enough to comment on any posts in particular except to say:
BF - encouraged by breast-feeding comments, really hope I can as I have my heart set on doing so and also having carried these humungous boobs around for years, suffering backache and wardrobe restrictions I feel that it's only right they should come into their own & be put to their proper use!

Thank you so much to whoever suggested hotmilk bras - they're beautiful and go into plus sizes!! At last. Been feeling such a frump the last 6 months. Going to be treating myself to a couple of those...

Buggy - had a go with a friends bugaboo cameleon and have to say was v.impressed. However, looking online I'm a bit confused with what parts you need to buy etc - why don't they just do a complete package for numpties??

Very impressed with how organised a lot of you seem to be with regard to hospital bags, shopping, nurserys. have done nothing yet to prepare (which may be why I've been avoiding the thread a bit) so it's all been good inspiration to get my arse into gear.
It's not good having the due date on the 1st of the month as i keep thinking September is ages away, yet when I remind myself that's the end of August it seems scarily close & I freak myself out!!

Promise I will following thread a bit more regularly from now on and maybe be able to contribute something useful!

BooStar you're not alone. I've done almost nothing too.

Sassy feel free to ignore cat convo. So not important. Sorry to hear what you're going through. Any advice yet about management and treatment? Might be worth a look at other threads on MN to get in the picture and prevent too much worry.

Love2Dance · 30/06/2010 12:46

Oh: Bugaboo Cameleon. Got ours in late 2006 so may not be totally up to speed on add-ons but basics should do you:
Main frame carry cot/pram bit;
Pushchair seat;
Rain cover.

Possibly a warm cosy (sheepskin?) insert as cold weather coming not long after due dates? Worth checking prices of similar generic cosy things as Bugaboo stuff is pricey. I didn't bother and used home knitted blankets to line and cover, but might have a look this time.

cinnamongreyhound · 30/06/2010 12:53

sassy34264 I'm so sorry about your news, hopefully they will be able to control it with diet for the last few weeks of your pregnancy and then you can go back to normal when the babies are here.

At least you now know the reason for their size and you can do something about it.

I don't envy you having twins at all, it one of our fears when going for the 12 weeks scan as my mum is a twin. On the plus side she had a great relationship with her brother (he sadly died of a heart attack 2 1/2 yrs ago) which is something special to twins

Debs75 · 30/06/2010 13:10

Sassy I have gestational diabetes as well. They will try to control it with diet first, if not you have tablets which aren't too bad.
I go to clinic every fortnight and am having scans and monitoring when there.
I am assuming you have more regular checks with having twins so apart from the diet changes and finger pricking not much will change.

I am on the gestational diabetes thread so pop on there and you will find some great tips.

SkaterGrrrrl · 30/06/2010 13:43

Hey Boostar, how was Glasto? I was there too with huge bump in attendance. Did you go to the radical midwives tent?

PickleSarnie you can get a net for buggies from Mamas and Papas. Ive seen them in store - they protect against sun, insects and cats.

sazziej · 30/06/2010 14:38

Sassy hope you are ok.

SkaterGrrrrl .... radical midwives? tell us more

Boostar I have packed baby hospital bag, but not mine, planning on doing that this week... just need to buy BIG pants - oh the joys! I keep thinking I have ages but actually only 9 weeks until due date.

I never thought I'd say this but I'm looking forward to the rain which is forecast for tomorrow, hoping it will cool things down, I think I am keeping magicool in business.

I have my 2nd pregnancy class at my local nursery tonight - as a first time mum looking forward to it, I'm soaking up information like a sponge at the moment.

sassy34264 · 30/06/2010 15:24

Hi, thanks for all the well wishes. Back from hospital. Have a testing kit, to test myself 4 times a day. Got another appointment (i already have 11 booked till due date!) with an obstetrician for monday at different hospital from the one i'm due to give birth in(?) and awaiting an additional appointment with a nutrititionist.
I suppose this might explain why my dd was 9lb 12oz, stuck and I needed an emergency c section. Although no-one has made the connection before, it's only because both these babies seem to be measuring beyond a singleton that anyone has noticed. And to be truthful, my normal consultant was off and so saw a different one and he's the one who's made the connection, otherwise i'm not sure if i'd be any the wiser now.
Sorry if it's a little jumbled. Head is mess.
On a good note DP is on is way home due to family bereavement (not so good) but at least i get to see him 4 weeks early.

debs75 will look at GD thread. In fact will be reading everything i can lay hands on!

SkaterGrrrrl Glastonbury was great, was quite nervous beforehand as I've been to quite few before so was aware of the scale, the amount of walking you need to do, and wasn't sure how I'd handle being sober at a festival - it all seemed a bit wrong.
But in the end had an amazing time, it was just a bit different I guess, saw more bands & did more stuff during the day which was really good rather than being wasted all night in the dance field (which don't get me wrong is also good) & having no energy during the day! ;) Still managed to have a bit of a boogie and Groove Armada got me jumping up and down - just had to hold on to the bump!
Not being able to have a smoke was tough though... Also I'm glad I took an umbrella - it's been so long since I've been to a sunny Glasto I'd forgotten how little shade there was.

I'd heard about the radical midwives, didn't make to their tent though, were they good? - did you hear someone gave birth there this year? I thought I was brave going at 6 months.

How was it for you?

sazziej BIG pants?? OMG no-one has mentioned this to me, there are just some things you don't think of eh? I'll add them to list.
Can't believe it's only 9 weeks (aaarrrgh!) and that's if we're not early...
Also got an ante-natal class tonight (NCT) - I'm the same re soaking up information, it's strange coz I've never been this keen a student before ;)

patito · 30/06/2010 15:33

Hi all

Just been trying to catch up.!
Been away for last mini holiday before birth, had 3 days away at a lake in northern spain right next to border of Portugal, was so beautiful and relaxing. I actually had the reverse feeling of having been away longer, it was so relaxing!!! .

Dont remeber who said they´´d got varicose vains, but second recommendation for compression tights. I have the full pull up over the belly ones as mine are right at the top of right thigh. The best thing by far for them is legs up against wall (think someone mentioned this for cramps as well, and haven´´t had those yet so propably works). Put a cushion under your bum to help circulation. After showering, run cold tap over legs to help circulation get going. EWhen i put my feet up mine completely disappear, so am hoping that this is a good sign for them going after birth.

Again dont remeber who asked but re: homebirth, had home birth with 1st and am planning a homebith again. Am happy to chat about this more.

My good news of the week is that I passed my driving test this week, at the grand age of 31!!! better late than never I guess.

Hope everyones feeling well (as can be expected). Im off to the beach this afternoon, .

SkaterGrrrrl · 30/06/2010 15:36

Radical midwives had a yurt in the healing fields at Glastonbury! They were offering advice and belly casts of your bump (kind of like paper mache of your belly and boobs). I didn't get a cast done but I did get my bump decorated. Like this: Skater's painted bump

My MIL was quite cross that I went to a festival at 31 weeks, but honestly all I did was sit in a deck chair and listen to lovely music all weekend long. (Early nights and no festival naughtiness for me!) And there were such good medical facilities on site, I'd have been treated faster there had I gone into labour than if my waters broke on a London street!

sazziej · 30/06/2010 15:37

BooStar BIG pants were recommended incase of C Section, most scars are in line with top of bikini line / most knickers can therefore be uncomfortable - midwife recommended we got some 'nana pants' (her words) just incase - she also said that if people were thinking of buying paper / disposable pants to buy one size larger than normal as these are normally on the small size.

sazziej · 30/06/2010 15:40

OOOH I want a painted bump - thank you for sharing pic skatergrrrrl

Love2Dance · 30/06/2010 16:25

Love the painted bump Skatergrrrl. Would you dare go out in London with it out?

SkaterGrrrrl · 30/06/2010 16:46

Probably not in London - the good people of Pilton loved it though!

Re Big Pants: Ive heard cheaper cotton ones you can bin once recovered from the birth are more comfy than paper/disposable ones.

Monstermuncher · 30/06/2010 19:40

Hiya

Would deffo say get big cotton pants rather than the paper ones after a c/s. You can get multipacks from Tesco and ASDA pretty cheaply. Glastonbury looked amazing on TV - not sure I could handle it at this stage of pregnancy but I salute you ladies who did - love the painted bump Skatergrrrl!

Stickhasgrownup · 30/06/2010 20:07

Oh yes... don't buy disposible pants... they are so uncomfortable and do come up very small (I thought I must have put them on the wrong way round) but no... just dug in.
TBH I just wear the pants I've worn in pregnacy as with the hugeness of maternity towels they are the most comfy. - I remember wearing 2 towels at a time at first!
Those of you who are breast feeding... don't forget to by sleep bras for comfort and ease in bed.
Don't know how you girls coped with Glastonbury! Especially in this heat... I could bearly function on Sunday!

Debs75 · 30/06/2010 20:49

Skater Love the painted bump. when pregnant with DD1 on feb29th I wrote on mine. 'Daddy please marry my Mummy'.
He said yes but 14 years later we still haven't managed it.

Disposable pants are awful and a bit crinkly. If you can get some the netting ones which I think are for C-sections are brilliant. I got given some in hospital with DD1 and they are comfy, non-sweaty and stretch without digging in at all.
I think JoJo Maman Bebe sell them

patito · 30/06/2010 21:13

Hi

Re: big pants, heres my thrifty tip of the day (if not very glam but then neither are big knickers )I used a couple of DP´´s old boxers last time and planning to do the same this time round!! He has a few worse for wear looking ones, they are comfy and hold in those huge maternity towels nicely.

PickleSarnie · 01/07/2010 09:22

Thanks all for all the cat info!

Huge congrats patito on passing the driving test! I can't even begin to imagine sitting my test with added preggo hormones. I used to frequently cry during lessons, I think I would have been a bawling wreck doing a test right now.

Cool bump SkaterGrrrrl. I reckon they'd have their work cut out on mine, trying to figure out how to incorporate my stretchmarks and road-map veins into the design!

SkaterGrrrrl · 01/07/2010 13:38

Quick poll: who has packed a hospital bag?

cinnamongreyhound · 01/07/2010 13:44

Nope! Have started to think about making a list about what I need to put in one though . Have got some bits for it though.

Debs75 · 01/07/2010 13:56

Not packed yet but have most things bought and put away.
Should pack one soon as I will have no chance during the holidays.

Dixiebell · 01/07/2010 14:03

Nope. Don't even have a list! Haven't bought anything for bubs yet either. Gonna start thinking about pram this weekend...

HI

No bag packed here neither, had a wander around baby section in supermarket today but didn´´t buy anything in the end.
