swordfishtrombones - I'm the same with regards to the maternity clothes. Bought three lots for my ever increasing bump. I have size 12/14/16, so even though i too am stumped as to what size i will be after birth, i have a good variation!!!!

My dd gave me horrendous heartburn, so in comparision to that it's not been too bad. She was born with a full head of hair, so think these babies are bald.

I had my 28 week appointment last week, but no bloods were taken. Everyone was too concerned about the size of um, i think. Will have to ask for it during next appointment.

bellabelly · 22/06/2010 12:01

About the glamorous shopping, H&M Mama have got quite a good sale on if your local branch sells the maternity range. I'm desperate for trousers that fit so I hit the shops this weekend but somehow came away from H&M with millions of new tops that I don't really neeed! Am trying to justify it by telling myself I'll ebay them all at some point after the birth.

All this talk of getting hospital bag/baby's room ready is making me realise how under-prepared I am... Must get sorted while I still have enough energy!

sassy34264 · 22/06/2010 12:12

bella I have found maternity pants- pants! None of them stay up. Why? My bump is getting bigger and if anything they are falling down more! It's exasperating! The best i have found (I have 7 different types in total) are some 3 quarter length sort of genie pants (sound awful but they're not) from Asda. Bought them 2 weeks ago, so they should still be in.

If i could go back in time, i would stick to dresses, but then i would need regular waxing, cos shaving at this point is an impossible task! Infact grooming in general as gone out the window. DP has raised his eyebrows but unless he wants to do it- it's tough.

PickleSarnie · 22/06/2010 12:20

sassy34264 I'm seriously considering braces (since living in leggings in not an option with my thighs). I don't know how all those grumpy looking teenagers who purposely wear their trousers so low that you can see most of their pants cope. The constant hitching up of jeans is doing my head in now.

Swordfishtrombones · 22/06/2010 12:21

What is the difference between maternity and 'normal' pants? I've never worn maternity pants - just worn the same pants as normal all through each pregnancy. Maybe it stretches them a little, but they fit fine. I wear the sort of shorts style ones mostly and maybe they are all a bit old and stretchy!

Does it depend on the shape of your bump? Maybe I carry quite high.

bellabelly · 22/06/2010 12:34

Picklesarnie - braces are a fantastic idea - didn't even think of that!!! You genius! [off to rummage through DH's drawers - sure he must have apair somewhere...]

swordfish - I am wearing maternity pants and normal pants, depending on what comes to hand. All of them fall down! Sometimes they manage to be falling down and yet riding up at the same time - a miracle of physics!

sassy34264 · 22/06/2010 12:38

picklesarnie Laughing, i'm constantly hitching and the braces idea has crossed my mind too. Seriously been thinking of bringing out a range that stays up! You've reminded me, i've actually bought 8 different types of pants- forgot about my leggings. They are the worst offenders. They pull my huge knickers down with them! I gave them to my mum last week and asked her to sew some elastic around the top:see if that works.

swordfishtrombones I was struggling from 8 weeks to fit in my pants. I suppose if you can fit them under the bump and they fasten, or you wear baggy you might be ok. I actually look freaky now as my bump is getting beyond what you would ever see for a 9 month pregnant woman with a singleton. It's taking on abnormal porportions! I've taken to looking up triplet pics now to make myself feel better with my twin bump!!!!!

Bessie123 · 22/06/2010 12:58

are you all talking about trousers or knickers?

sassy34264 · 22/06/2010 13:03

Bessie123 Pants up North means trousers, well it does from my neck of the woods anyway!

sassy34264 · 22/06/2010 13:09

ha ha, just read all the comments back and think we're at cross purposes!!!! I mean trousers when i say pants and it would seem you all mean knickers!
Not got maternity knickers, just normal huge full briefs......that don't bleeding stay up either!!!!! LMAO. It's a wonder no-one has seen my arse! Laughing that hard, i've got a braxton hick!

Dixiebell · 22/06/2010 14:26

So HIP grant abolished...but not until Jan 2011... "Mothers that are already pregnant should not be affected". Phew - just sent my form off!

Also child benefit frozen...assume that means you still get it, just won't go up. At least until the review of child ben finishes.

And I also get a pay freeze as a public sector worker. Hmph!

cinnamongreyhound · 22/06/2010 14:49

Not too worried about the child benefit freeze as I'm always shocked when I get more all of a sudden and it's usually 20p a week.

Tax credits reduced for household incomes over £40,000 is not as bad as the total cut over £24,000 that was predicted and not til April 2011. Apart from our own tax credits I'm a childminder and a lot of my parents rely on them to pay me so I'm relieved on that!

Pay freeze is better than paycut Dixiebell but I agree it's not ideal! My husband works for a university so not sure if it applies to him or not.

comixminx · 22/06/2010 16:59

Re pants / trousers / braces - I use belts. There's no way my actual zips will fasten and it stops me from having to hitch them up too much.

Hmm, must check out the budget stuff - have been giving a training course this afternoon so I haven't been looking at the news yet.

Anyone else struggling in this heat?

This afternoon I had to have a nap as I was wide awake at 4am today, so I napped by laying down on a damp towel with a fan at the side of me. I have no energy at all today!

(apologies for the moan)

Monstermuncher · 22/06/2010 21:00

Am definitely struggling with the heat too Sazziej, its been about 25 degrees here today and I can't handle it. Seriously wanting a pint of ice cold lager and lime :-(
I am also having the knicker/trouser keeping up problem, it's not so bad when I'm at home (living in sundresses at the moment) but when I'm at work I spend half of my day pulling the darned things up

PickleSarnie · 22/06/2010 21:50

I'm just struggling to find the motivation to do any work when it's so sunny and lovely outside. Even worse, I can see a roof-top bar from my office window so end up enviously watching pimms drinking, work shirking, lucky buggers spending the afternoons up there.

sassy34264 · 23/06/2010 07:27

Just been woken up in the worst possible way.........leg cramp. Forgot how much it bloody hurts. Any remedies for not getting it in the first place?

bananastew · 23/06/2010 08:35

Ouch sassy I've been getting those too although I usually manage to catch it before it goes into full blown cramp! I know this is pregnancy related but usually cramp can be caused by not drinking enough! You could try that! No other suggestions I'm afraid.

I'm not too bad in the heat as long as I don't have to work! Only 2 days left!

30 weeks tomorrow. Was discussing labour yesterday. I know I've got to get the baby out but thats as much thinking about it I like to do. Why, when you're pregnant do people insist on telling you labour horror stories? I had a pretty rough time last time myself but strangely enjoyed it & am looking forward to doing it again.

Bessie123 · 23/06/2010 08:47

bananastew it's very strange about the birth horror stories, I have no idea why anyone would say anything negative about birth to a pregnant woman.

Does anyone know when you have to stop eating pineapple?

26+4

PickleSarnie · 23/06/2010 09:10

Bessie123, you have to stop eating pineapple?! Is this yet another thing banned by the fun police? What does it do if you eat it?

Bessie123 · 23/06/2010 09:16

It can bring on labour. But only if you eat it towards the end of your pregnancy. I was just wondering when was near enough the end for it to maybe work.

Bessie123 · 23/06/2010 09:17

(I had pineapple for breakfast and was wondering how long I could eat it for before it was a bit risky)

Although, I ate loads of pineapple last pregnancy, trying to go into labour, and it didn't work.

PickleSarnie · 23/06/2010 09:32

Oooh, I didn't know that about pineapple. Probably a bit more appealing at 9 months gone than getting jiggy with OH in an attempt to get it out!

Dixiebell · 23/06/2010 09:41

Sassy I am v.prone to cramp - when my feet are too hot/too cold or been wearing the wrong shoes...!! But weirdly haven't had it much since becoming pg. Is agony, especially in the leg, I'm hoping labour is going to be a different type of pain as I the thought of that kind of pain for more than a few minutes is not worth thinking about! Apparently quinine is supposed to help - which is in tonic water. At one point I started having a G&T before bed ;). However for now I can recommend tonic with a squeeze of lemon or lime! Also doing a few stretches of your calves before you go to bed supposed to be good.

SkaterGrrrrl · 23/06/2010 10:30

comix my top tip for making a sleepy baby move is to drink ice cold water - the baby tries to move away from the cold stomach!

No heartburn here yet thank god

Sassy I am also shopping for England - enjoying my last couple of months before I go on crappy statutory maternity pay! Am buying things like nipple shields & maternity pads too. Also a changing bag and some audio books to listen to during night feeds!

Grooming: certainly can't do feet, need to book another pedicure. DH has been tidying up my bikini line with his beard clippers. Can just about shave legs in shower although requires precarious balancing.

Relieved about the HIP grant as we had that earmarked to go towards a sofa bed.
