lol

Cute name though

I say if you want it, have it!

SkaterGrrrrl · 26/07/2010 14:34

Fantastic news skyeplus - does that mean no c-section?

parkj83 · 26/07/2010 14:37

My foot, well, it's swollen still and occasionally painful. It gets more swollen as the day goes on, which is annoying. And whenever I take a step with it, I can feel stuff wobbling on the top like jelly

I'm getting slightly concerned about it, as it's starting to look horribly like a condition my dad has, where the lymph nodal system in his leg doesn't drain properly, and he has very bad fluid retention. He was about my age when it started off, and 25 yrs on, his foot is no better, and now his hand is swelling

I really really hope it's not that.

skyeplusbump · 26/07/2010 14:45

park oh no! keep pressing that doc for answers!have you mentioned your dads condititon,we have a weird heriditery joint condition in our family...sucks! hoping for you too!

skatergrrrrl YES no c-section,no hospitals! i can have a birth center birth! witch is fantastic as im terrified of operations/hospitals!

parkj83 · 26/07/2010 14:52

Skye actually I forgot to mention it to the A&E dude; it popped into my head a couple of days ago, and DH is begging me to forget it, as he doesn't want me to stress about it (possibly) being that.

I will mention it at my next appts, and see what my m/w thinks too - hopefully it won't affect my plan to have a home birth

I'm really pleased you don't need a CS now though I can sympathise with not wanting to go to hospital!

BooStar · 26/07/2010 15:05

cinnamon very jealous of your sleeping abilities - I was like that once - sigh! Don't envy you your restless legs though - my best friend had that throughout her pregnancy and it sounds much worse than the name suggests?

Picklesarnie with regard to being able to pee in the car - it didn't come naturally - had to practice for ages before glastonbury to be able to get over the psychological block of peeing in any other position than sitting on a toilet. And I must admit I was absolutely on the point of peeing myself before i could use it in the car!

Skye I'd say go for it - they're both adorable but the grey one is particularly beautiful? and no c-section is definitely a cause to celebrate!

LadyRabbit · 26/07/2010 16:14

I vote YES for the kitten skye. If you're going through childbirth, you deserve a present to yourself.

Get both. They will enjoy the company, especially if you're going to be busy with new baby. At least that's one way of justifying it.

sassy34264 · 26/07/2010 16:19

Sorry to hear about your foot parkj83.
I'm getting increasingly more swollen as the days go on. Anybody itch on their feet when they are swollen? What with that and bloody carpal tunnel syndrome getting worse, i'm going around the bend. It's waking me up in pain ever 45-1 hour at the minute. Feels like there is no blood going to my right hand and i have to massage it to get the feeling back. Looked it up today and it says a splint might help. Got hospital appointment thurs, may ask for two of those wrist straps they give for sprains etc.
I'm glad DP's not here at the minute cos all he would have to look forward to is me moaning! I can't breath, move, stand, sleep..............URGH!

Boostar mine are hiccuping alot. Especially twin 1. It was regularly once a day, but it has increased to 2 or 3 times recently. I keep getting what can only be their bums sticking up as well. I just say hello and give it a little rub and a pat.

sassy34264 · 26/07/2010 16:23

Skye Good news on the placenta.

Dixiebell · 26/07/2010 16:37

Hello everyone, can't believe we have our first messageboard baby - congrats L2D! Must have been so scary. Makes me think I must get on with buying for & packing a hospital bag; I think I'm only a week behind you, bit of a wake up call to think there could be an actual baby here with us at any moment...

I have lots of hiccups too (the bubs, not me!). And hip pain like nobody's business. Only during the night. Who needs to sleep anyway? Def wake at least once an hour, and turning over is sooo hard. Currently doing pillow between the legs, plus an extra duvet and sleeping bag under the sheets on my side. Nothing helps. Usually end up practically sitting up by about 4am, which does ease pain but not so conducive to sleeping. Another 2 months of this, you cannot be serious...?! How come I never heard of this before getting pg??!!

parkj83 · 26/07/2010 16:56

Hi sassy, yes, I'm getting the whole itchy thing with my foot too lol

And push for some splints, I was given some as I started to show symptoms of carpal tunnel earlier on in the pg. They're annoying at night, but they do help.

I'm double cursed, as I get tendon issues anyway, then I also find myself lying on my forearms (much like a dog or cat, don't ask me how!!) so I end up cutting off the circulation to my hands by myself, let alone with CT too lol

comixminx · 26/07/2010 18:16

I'm getting some itchy feet feelings too - not made better by a touch of athlete's foot! sorry for any TMI... I've been trying to keep socks & shoes on to keep the pressure around my feet & stop them swelling as much, but while it might make a positive difference for the swelling it makes a negative difference for in between the toes!

When's everyone going on maternity?

I'm only stopping 2 weeks before EDD as I'd rather have the time at the other end with the baby. So 3 weeks of work left.

PickleSarnie · 26/07/2010 20:40

I was going to technically start mat leave on my due date and use up two weeks holiday beforehand. I was all smug about how this pregnancy lark was going to be a total breeze. That was until about 2 weeks ago when I stopped sleeping and baby started using my bladder as a trampoline and giving me the worst acid ever and causing me not to sleep for longer than an hour in a row since then.

So I changed it to leave at 37 weeks instead of 38 but now I'm considering leaving at 36 since I have a 1.5 hour each way commute and am apparently incapable of functioning without sleep. I'm going to be so bored though and I feel like I'm a total failure for not being able to cope with something that apparently millions of other women manage to cope with.

parkj83 · 26/07/2010 20:48

I unfortunately lost my job 3 months ago, due to other health issues, so I've been sat here twidding my thumbs, looking after DS, and worrying about making ends meet.

I'm waiting to see if I'm eligible for MA, and I will scream if I'm not

Jaysfourth · 26/07/2010 21:09

hi all,

loads of things happening to everyone, but mostly, LOVETODANCE.. woweeeeee!! Many congratulations on the birth of your little one and what a story. Good job those in the know were on their toes!!

i cant believe there is 90 of us due to give birth... i mean, and thats just counting those that are on MN...... imagine counting up every birth in the country... jeeez is the world big enough!

those of you talking about hip and back pain....i sympathise. I suffered really badly with SPD with all three of mine, progressivly getting worse with each one... this one, the SPD hasnt been too bad ( untill this week) but i am unable to lie for any longer than an hour or so as my hips feel like someone has a red hot poker through them, sleeping is a real mare at the moment, i end up being propped up in an almost sitting positiontwiddling my thumbs as i just cant get to sleep....ah well not long to go now ( hopefully)

wish i was starting maternity leave.... can someone tell my husband/family please, then i can start mine in about two weeks please

congrats skye re the placenta moving. good baby growing! i had that worry last time, 9 out of 10 times ( apparently) it does move round, but i guess its just pot luck if it does or doesnt.

another yes vote for kitten.... given that they are housetrained, and utterly gorge.... in fact, go for two

BOO i had something similar to your 'whizaway' its called a 'shepee' used it at glastonbury a few times.... very strange but when you get the hang of it, it can be a life saver. RE hiccups, i believe currently, the baby is ingesting about a pint of anmiotic fluid a day.....i think frequent hiccups is a given! my bump has them at least twice, if not more a day.

I have swollen feet all the time now, quite sore and painful, almost like they are going to split at the worst times no real let up. I have a pair of fitflops, that fit me, and thats it... good job its summer and i can get away with wearing them all the time.

Next thing for me is a growth scan on Friday, one to see what way round LO is ( consultant couldnt tell a cpl of weeks back) and also to see how big this monster is going to be.given that the last two were over 11 lbs, they want to make sure this one isnt going to be bigger :O

sorry for the epic.... i should post more frequently , then the content would be smaller!

sassy34264 · 26/07/2010 21:11

I resigned from my job last June. (end of college term) Had money to take me up to Sept (deliberately stashed it away as i wasn't sure DP would go along with my plan to resign from a well paying job in the middle of a recession ). Softened the blow by saying i would temp when college started in Sept.
DP had been away for 6 months, back 1st Dec. When he got back we had a discussion about my not getting any younger (36 in Oct) and should we try for a baby while i'm not in a permanent job, he said yes and 2 weeks later i'm bleeding pregnant........with twins! (I think we both thought it would take a while.)
I told him (years ago) i would not work like i did with DD. It's like being a single mum when you're not cos he's away all the time and you're pretty much on your own with a full-time stressful job, a child and a house to run. I'm not signing up for that again. Don't envy any of you in work. It must be hard.

Dixiebell · 27/07/2010 08:28

I was planning to work up to 39 weeks....is that just silly? Ideally would go up to 38, but I've got a week's holiday booked (for a family wedding) at 37, and didn't want to have a whole 3 weeks off before EDD (then potentially another 2 weeks of waiting...), so thought might go back to work for a week before starting mat leave at 39. Beginning to think sod it, might just take that week as leave too! If not, would def only work from home, as also have 1hr30 commute into London. Not so bad on the travelling at the moment, but the thought of going into labour at work...and then trying to get home/to hospital on train sounds horrendous...!

Dixiebell · 27/07/2010 08:35

Ooh, can I ask, anyone recommend a great babycare guide for first timers? DH wants something he can read on the morning commute!! Was v.surprised at that, but want to encourage! I was going to get the babycare bible as have the pregnancy one, and it's quite a good reference book. But he wants something smaller in paperback he can take on the train. Were looking at Gina Ford - the contented little baby book. Anyone found something great?

parkj83 · 27/07/2010 08:48

lol, I would have suggested the Haynes manual for babies

Aimed at men, but it's not compact unfortunately.

I picked up a used one ofthese for a penny plus postage. It's brilliant!

cinnamongreyhound · 27/07/2010 08:53

Dixiebell I had Your Baby: week by week. Found it very reassuring at first as it gives you rough ideas of how many feeds, nappies, hours crying, hours sleeping your baby should have. My first baby cried a lot a only really cat napped and the book really made me feel it was normal. Especially when at 6 weeks it got worse and my mum helpfully chipped in (having given no advice at all throughout) that he was restless because he wasn't laying flat during the day. It has weeks 1-24, although there are less pages per week as you get further in, in it with tips for weaning later on too. It's by Simone Cave and Dr. Caroline Fertleman.

Jaysfourth · 27/07/2010 08:53

Dixie, i think if you find it you need to let us all know!!!!

They (authors) all profess to have the answers and solutions to this and that, but IMO until you have your LO and get stuck in, i dont think any book can give you what youre looking for. Having said that, i suppose it depends on if you know HOW you want to parent, ie, routine routine routine or very relaxed and take it as it comes. Then i think you will find a few to cater for yourself.
Sorry I cant recommend a particular book ( i am sure others will have ideas) but i will say.
Common sense prevails.
If your baby is crying, its (NORMALLY) hunger, dirty nappy or tired.
If in doubt seek help.
Dont put pressure on yourself to do anything you dont want.
Sod the housework
Dont worry about getting everything right first time.
Do what makes you and your LO happy

36wks today - yay!!

sassy34264 · 27/07/2010 09:04

I think i would stay away from Gina Ford! She gets slated on here. She is very rigid and inflexible. It comes across as a manual to train babies and then when the babies don't play ball ( which inevitable they don't) the mum feels like a failure.
I haven't read it,(but i did study child psychology and teach Btec childcare and no-one held up Gina Ford as a expert on child rearing) so my comment comes from articles and views on here.

Here's an example of what i mean:

*The baby must be woken and fed by 7am, and parents fed by 8am. Then the baby must be fed ? always in the nursery ? every four hours and given naps at certain times up until the last feed (in a dimly-lit nursery) at 6.15pm, during which parents should not make eye contact with their child in order not to excite it before bedtime.

Ford also advises parents to sometimes leave their baby crying for up to an hour so it will learn not to expect to always be picked up. Devotees of the method rave it helps their infants sleep 12 hours a night from when they are just a few weeks old. Television presenter Eamonn Holmes and his partner Ruth Langsford sang Ford's praises for giving them a "clockwork baby".

But detractors, including the Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg, who at the weekend lambasted Ford's routine as "absolute nonsense", report ending up in tears at the stress of trying to force their child to conform. For her part, Ford said Mr Clegg had "insulted the parenting choice of more than 2 million British voters".*

Jaysfourth · 27/07/2010 09:27

sheeeesh... who wants a clockwork baby....why not just get a train!

I am not saying no to ANY routine, but the 'ridgedness' of some of these 'guides' is what can contribute to a lot of women feeling like failures - if it doesnt work for them.
I just dont like the idea of building up hopes and expectations for something that is totally unpredicable ie a baby!!

i did like to have a semi routine for bed time though, which just involved doing the same things everynight at 'approx' the same times. This just meant that i did get a few hours with DH of an eve and i think you need that!

Every baby is different, as is how you adapt to each baby. Factors you never thought of can influence how you feel about how to bring up your baby, you will get all sorts of advice from friends, family and even strangers in the street. Just remember to take from it what you want, not what you think you should do!!

Dixiebell · 27/07/2010 09:41

hmmm, interesting, thanks for the views. Think I'm after something more like 'how to do X (if you want to)', rather than a method/routine. Maybe the Idiot's Guide is the way to go...?!
