Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MammyG · 22/07/2010 21:59

Hi all
Doctor on tue - all grand thank God. Its still a girl! my bp is finally up and she is exactly as she should be. He also said that while it is impossible to predict how these things go but he would not anticipate labour setting off an attack. And on top of that actually listened to me on how awful my experience with DS2 was and made notes for the hospital. I am anaemic tho and have to take more iron - my body not liking the adjustment.
Just had two nights away in fabulous hotel. It was such a treat. Isnt it funny tho am just home and am shattered!! Bought a few little girl outfits while I was away - making it real.
I was reading the posts about adjusting to another child. I had DS2 when DS1 was only 18mths old. He was still my baby and I just couldnt picture loving anyone like him. When I had DS2 I did love him immediately but maybe not as intensely (I also kept calling him DS1's name!) I had this strange feeling of betraying DS1. I couldnt wait to get home to see him etc. Thankfully there were no issues of jealousy. We were careful to balance our time and I had spent a while before the birth setting DS1 up with certain routines etc that would accommodate the baby. The thing is there was a period of a few months where I was falling in love in DS2. It was slower than DS1 in that sense but it was still a wonderful experience. The more his own little personality came out I fell in love with him for who he was not just cause he was the baby. I hope that all makes sense?

Love2Dance · 22/07/2010 22:14

Can I join the worrier's club? Like some I have been feeling a bit disengaged from everything and lacking in motivation to get on with prep for baby. Perhaps it's down to previous mc last Nov, I dunno.

Anyway, had routine midwife appt at GP's today and found out I am very small for dates and high-ish blood pressure. I told her baby is moving a bit less (I just meant I thought baby's getting bigger) but she told me I had to go straight to hospital. I was there all day. Baby was moving but they couldn't pick up a consistent heartbeat on the monitor, perhaps becasue baby is too small. No scans available today so I have to back tomorrow afternoon.

I explained that due to my job it would be difficult to drop everything and do a scan on Monday but that tomorrow was just about do-able (although I do appreciate that baby's safety comes first). No doubt the Dr was trying to be nice when she said: "In professional jobs like yours and mine people tend to blame ourselves if the baby dies, and we don't want to look back and say if only we'd done something sooner".

Nothing like a crisis to add a bit of focus. Must keep telling muself: Don't panic Mr Mannering...

skyeplusbump · 22/07/2010 22:37

lovetodance good luck for tomorow...do try not to panic!
i was rushed to hospital last week in fear of allsorts only to be told to take some paracetamol and lay down, because what i was experiancing was a MIGRANE! bloody crazy, they also mentioned my bp had suddenly shot up! weird, that, seeing as theyd just scared the s**t out of me!!
i'll be thinking of you tomorow

bananastew · 23/07/2010 09:06

lovetodance thinking of you today. hope all goes ok.

I wrote a bit of a pregnancy diary with ds. Its really strange how everything is so absolutely the same this time! aches, pains, weight - almost! 3lb heavier this time. I got a bit worried last night. I was having a lot of braxton hicks but they were painful. I had period pains coming & going and a lot of back ache. I read my diary & it was the same stage with ds that all that started before & the midwife said it was my body preparing itself!

Gland you had a nice time away MammyG I'm going to Scarborough with family tomorrow morning till Wed. My mum and I have an annual 2/3 days there every summer cos they've got a holiday flat there. looking forward to it cos she'll take over with ds & I can just relax!

sassy34264 · 23/07/2010 09:41

lovetodance Blinking heck! She would of scared the hell out of me. Really hope all is well. Will be thinking of you also. x

sassy34264 · 23/07/2010 09:50

I'm quite happy today. Another week down......i'm 33 today! 3 weeks over from when they wanted to give me steroid injections (they only last for 4 anyway..... or so i've read)
I said to my mum that i've not allowed myself to be 'looking forward to seeing them', cos i've not wanted to wish them early (so to speak). So, if anyone has said 'oh, i bet you can't wait', i've been like 'yeah i can, quite happy to wait actually'.
But this last week i've started to get excited. Just thinking that they will be here in 5 weeks or maybe less is making it very very real!!!!!
Hope that makes sense.

cinnamongreyhound · 23/07/2010 09:52

Try not to worry Love2Dance measurements can be very far out. At last appointment I was measuring 3 weeks over and on Weds I was 2 weeks under! Blood pressure could be for many reasons, mine is always higher when I have it done at hospital than when I have it done with midwife at surgery. I know what you mean about work, I don't consider myself a professional but need to work around my job as best I can but your baby really is the most important thing at the moment. Better to have it today than Monday, saves you worrying all weekend!

A friend of mine did one bananastew but then when baby turned out to be a boy she said it was a waste of time as he would never use it still a lovely thing to have though. Handy to have for the second one though obviously.

comixminx · 23/07/2010 11:40

Love2Dance, I'm sure she was working on the "better safe than sorry" basis, but that was a worrying way to proceed! Good luck with the scan today - let us know how it goes.

Just seen the MW myself and she thought my baby was probably a bit on the small size; but while she said that I ought to keep a close eye on movements and if they slacken off to get me to the hosp for a growth scan right away, she didn't make it sound as worrying. I'm not worried yet anyway - think I was on the small size too. Will bear it in mind of course.

One good thing was that she was very supportive of me wanting a home birth - round here (Oxford) they generally seem pretty keen, which is great.

Evening all,

sorry for the late post.

I've been up to A&E tonight, not for Fidget, but because of my foot...!

It's been playing up for a bit, I think because I dropped something on it. But it's not broken

In fact, they couldn't find anything wrong with it!

So I have to go back to the A&E physio dept in 10 days, to see if it's still swollen/painful etc. Great(!)

On a brighter note, I've found some pics of the weekend we had in Birmingham

here is a link to them. I'm in the orchestra, RH pic at the top, 4th person playing the flute, next to the clarinet - thankfully unfortunately it's a bit fuzzy!!

My friend shot a video of us too, I'll see if she can send it to me, if you'd like to have a listen? x

PickleSarnie · 24/07/2010 08:16

I always wanted to play the flute parkj83 but my mum refused to pay a couple of hundred quid for something I probably would have got bored with after a few days (attention span is not my strong point). So I got a poxy recorder instead and 20 odd years I'm still bitter at my lack of flute! Harrumph.

Hope your foot is better soon!

parkj83 · 24/07/2010 09:02

lol my parents did the recorder thing to begin with, and they caved on the flute only because I was driving them up the wall with the recorder!

I took it everywhere with me - I even remember having it when my parents' car broke down and I played it all the way back in the breakdown truck!

Love2Dance · 24/07/2010 18:08

Ladies: the short version: growth scan showed v little amniotic fluid, almost no blood flow from placenta to baby & slowed growth. Sent to labour ward then had scan with consultant. Dopplers also showed decellerated heatbeat with recovery periods becoming less.

So, they said we have to get baby out NOW! Had emergency c-section ( tho' local not general) and now have. Tiny baby boy (3lbs) in SCBU! Dh arrived just in time. Good news is he is breathing by himself. I'm told he'll have to stay in at least 2-3 weeks. Relieved but feels wierd on post labour ward with no baby. Hospital have very sensitively (and 'cos not that busy) given me my own room. So, though I'm still v anxious about infections etc. If it has to happen to anyone else, the odds are good.

Take care for now all. I plan to stay with y'all on thus thread if that's ok. Still getuing my head around this, but feel so lucky to have a v prem baby rather than a stillborn one.

sassy34264 · 24/07/2010 18:33

lovetodance
OMG! Congratulations firstly on your new little boy. (I'm very hormonal cos i'm crying!!!!!) What a shock for you though. So glad he is alright and hope he grows as he should do with no added problems.
You have to stay on the thread cos we will need to know how you are both doing. Take care and lots of love to the little one. xxxxx

skyeplusbump · 24/07/2010 19:31

lovetodance congratulations on your lovely tiny boy...im sure he will be just fine
(if it means anything at all dp was 6 weeks early in 1979 and he's perfectly anoying fine!)
so glad that they picked it up quickly! and that your dh made it in time!
please stay on this thread,we need to know how you are both doing!
try to rest, love to you all.xxxxxxxx

ooosabeauta · 24/07/2010 19:55

lovetodance congratulations on your baby boy, and well done for getting through the last few days. It must be an emotional shock, but I'm so glad that it sounds like they've managed it all well. I'll be thinking of you and little boy and wishing you well xxxx

cinnamongreyhound · 24/07/2010 20:55

Congratulations Love2Dance goes to show measurements can be useful. Hope you are feeling ok and that you can take your tiny baby home soon. Does he have a name yet or are you still in shock?

LadyRabbit · 24/07/2010 21:41

Wow! Love2Dance a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS!! You must be in a shock but it's wonderful news that he's tiny but ok. A friend of mine had a similar experience, but baby was even teenier and I am happy to report a very healthy and happy 1 yr old. I'm sure the docs have already told you what good news it is that he's breathing by himself. What a trooper - both of you! Hope you're getting plenty of rest and that the next few weeks zip by and you'll be home together soon. Lots of love to you all.

(I had a little tear in my eye reading this news as well sassy34264...!)

coppertop · 24/07/2010 22:03

Love2dance
Huge congratulations
Am sat here tearing up. It must have been a scary few hours between scanning and c-section. Hope you recover well and can spend some time with your lovely little boy.
My friend weighed 2lbs when he was born and he is well over 6 foot now, just you watch him grow.

Again congratulations

Swordfishtrombones · 25/07/2010 10:18

Blimey! I haven't posted for ages and what news there is! Congratulations on your baby boy Love2Dance! What a shock that must have been but great that it was picked up straight away.

Definitely stay on this thread and keep us updated on how he is doing. My DD2 had to go into Intensive Care when she was a week old and was on a ventilator for 2 weeks and I know how weird it is to not have your baby with you. Are you planning on breasfeeding? I found that expressing milk was the only constructive thing I could do as you feel so helpless. I hope you recover from the op quickly. It's a lot easier said than done, but try and get some rest in now if you can.

My news isn't half as exciting. I had a scan on friday and fortunately baby is head down (the midwife told me it was breech on thursday) and my placenta has mostly moved up, but I have an extra placental lobe (nope - I dunno why either!) which is about 3cm away from the cervix so I have to have a consultant appointment to see whether I can go ahead with the homebirth. The sonographer thought it would be fine, but I might just need to be in hospital. At least it's not straight to CSection which I was afraid it might be.

Right, how am I going to survive the summer holidays with a 5 and 3 yr old and a very large belly? I feel exhausted just thinking about it. All tips welcome!

34 + 3

sazziej · 25/07/2010 10:37

Huge congratulations Love2Dance - I hope you and your son are doing well.

One of my cousins was born 9 weeks early and was just under 2lb, he is now 6ft and a strong healthy 24 year old. Good news that he is breathing for himself, and well done to the hospital for acting so quickly.

Nowhere near as exciting or interesting - I had a midwife appointment on Thursday, and I said I felt my bump had dropped, after having a feel around she told me head was now partially engaged, with spine laying on my left side, so still needs to turn... so pleased my hospital bag is packed. Officially I have 5and a half weeks to go.... I'd like to hold on until 37 weeks, but who knows I'll probably still be here 2nd week of September waiting...Good news is that midwife said as long as everything continued to progress normally no reason why i can't have a water birth.

DH is on holiday now so we started to clear the spare room yesterday ready to turn it into a wrigglers nursery, lots of crap, stuff to clear out....

babyshoes · 25/07/2010 10:45

Love2dance That's AMAZING news! Many congratulations.
One of my best friends who was due 2nd October had her first baby on Friday afternoon . her waters broke the sunday before and was taken into hospital indefinitely but then naturally went into labour 5 days later - also a healthy 3 lbs something and breathing on his own. All very scary tho at how suddenly things can change but so far all the stories have had good endings and medical care has been brilliant (some faith in the NHS still).

I had 2 scans last week as placenta really low and 2nd was with specialist who said there was too much down there and wouldn't move in time so has said i need a csec at 38 weeks! i still can't get my head around the fact i'll be a mother of 2 in 3 weeks and i'm still at work for 2 weeks! i need a massage i think....... anyone else getting constant back ache???
