JodeyLea · 08/07/2010 14:58

What are restless legs?????? Heartburn keeps trying to strike but so far it only lasts a couple of minutes! I know it will get worse as the next few weeks pass by.

Got a call from the GP today regarding my Blood Test results. I have no antibodies for the chickenpox virus so have been advised not to go back to school or to have a vaccine which will only protect me for three weeks. Looked up the vaccine on the net anda lot of sites don't recommend having it so after a few tears (hormones are particularly bad today) due to having to make a decision DP and I decided it best for me to stay off work for the last two weeks nof term. Problem is, I can't seem to relax and enjoy this unexpected time off as I feel so guilty that I'm not in school!!!! I know I shouldn't and I know I have made the best decision in protecting my baby but I just can't help feeling like a fraud being off work whilst everyone else has to cover me.

Sorry folks, rant over.

skyeplusbump · 08/07/2010 16:10

jodeylea restless legs are exactly what they sound like...except they hurt...its a bit like if you've been walking ALL DAY long then you sit down to try to relax and they just ache soooo much you cant sit still...SUCKS!

skyeplusbump · 08/07/2010 16:11

and youre not a fraud, you are protecting your baby! its an important job!

bellabelly · 08/07/2010 16:36

Jodeylea -the last couple of weeks of summer term get so disruptd with one thing and another in any case - it's seriously not worth stressing about - NOBODY will think you are skiving/being a fraud. You teach secondary don't you? So everone's exam classes have left now, teachers should be get in lots of extra non-contact time, there'll be tips, awards day, sports days, etc etc. Seriously you are doing the right thing!!!!

bananastew · 08/07/2010 19:47

Hi all! I'd love to comment on everyones posts but I can't remember who said what!

Catnets-we had one for ds but never took it out the box. Like someone else said we just made sure the cat and baby were never in the same room together alone.

Cotbeds- we had a drop side one from toys r us. never actually used the drop down bit though because it was to stiff & fiddly! By the time we lowered it to its lowest position ds was able to stand himself up so I could lift him out. We used it for a few weeks as a bed for ds but have bought him all new furniture & dismantled it in good time for the baby coming. I don't want him thinking the babys got his cot! an upside is that the cot bed mattress slides nicely under his new toddler bed so I can pull it out as a soft landing for if he falls out!

Breech presentation- one of my friends was breech until 37 weeks and another until 39 weeks so never give up hope!

I can't believe we're nearly there. I attacked Primani and bought myself nighties, pjs, huge pants and slippers ready for my bag. just need a bag now.

I'm also struggling more this time. Infact I had a complete melt down earlier, ds was just paddying, he wouldn't stop. It was over nothing. I managed to stay calm for about 30mins then just snapped. I threw him on his bed, screamed at him, slammed the door & burst into tears! He keeps having horrible tantrums. He's usually so placid. My friend says its easier to cope when you're not pregnant but right now, I don't think I can do another 8 weeks like this!

Anyway, I've waffled for long enough. Take care all!

MudandRoses · 08/07/2010 20:11

Ahh, Bananastew, I do sympathise. mine's 4.5 so he's just past the tantrum stage but my god, he's been pushing my buttons lately!! I've felt at the end of my tether a few times. We've started a star and punishment chart (one side has stars, the other black crosses and he loses tv/sweets/etc - sounds vile but I didn't know what else to do!)

Restless legs - not like you describe, Skye, in my experience...really hard to explain, but it's like an itch or a tension in the nerves - the ONLY thing that relieves it is to stretch or move your leg(s)...it just goes on and on and it wakes you up in the night and i HATE it!! My friend taught me a yoga move (on all 4's, extend leg behind, flick foot as hard as poss as if trying to remove chewing gum!!) which helps a bit if i'm desperate.

Love to all!

parkj83 · 09/07/2010 11:43

Hi all,

Love2Dance DS is 7, so he's firing question after question about when dc2 will be born, where does it come from, where will he be, can I bring the baby to school when it's born, oh it goes on and on!

lol

I remembered this week that I haven't seen my m/w or had my latest set of bloods taken, so I must be a good 2 weeks out... oops

Do you think this'll be a problem?! I'm so relaxed about this pg in comparison to DS's, that I just forget stuff!

I mean, I feel healthy (apart from SPD) and everything seems to be going so smoothly, baby's kicking very well, and I'm just gently looking forward to meeting him/her.

jodeylea, I was worried about my dogs too, but I met my 2nd cousin the other day, she's 9 months old and into everything, and my Dalmatian was perfect with her, she crawled all over him, fingers in mouth, ears pulling all sorts, and he didn't flinch! Perfect. And then the terrier only stuck around long enough for her to pull on his foot, then he just avoided her. He's the one I'm worried quietly about, partly cos he's not well, but also cos he's getting on a bit now, and is more short-tempered than he was when we first got him 4.5 years ago. He was very tolerent then, DS used to chase him round the house whacking him with a cushion! But now, well, I guess just wait and see. He's got enough sense to get out of the way when he's picked on enough though, so I think we'll be ok.

Debs75 · 09/07/2010 11:44

I get restless legs and I just want to stretch them out all the time or jiggle them. I'm not so bad at night but then I don't have covers over my feet, even in winter, which helps.

sazziej · 09/07/2010 11:53

Ahhh! Advice needed (first baby , can you tell?)... i think I have developed SPD, but not really sure and I can't get to see my GP until Monday.

I have developed really bad pain in my hip area and 'under carriage', I can't get comfy whether sitting, laying or stood up, it makes no difference. It is agaony when I walk and getting out of bed this morning I needed help!

Any advice gratefully recieved - apologies for the moan but feeling sorry for myself this morning.

Love2Dance · 09/07/2010 12:39

I don't know much as never had it but from memory of women's physio antenatal class: try not to do anything that requires a "scissor" action in the legs. E.g, when you get out of bed push yourself up with arms afetr rolling over on to one hip. If already sitting in or a chair or a car, keep legs parrallel, lean forward, put hands on thighs and push up slowly with your arms (if in a car swing legs so at right angles to car then stand up).

Drawing up knees in bed as high as you can stops pelvis moving too much and cushion or pillow between knees in bed always helpful.

Rest, avoid stairs if possible. If you swim don't do breaststroke. Exercise to relieve it: Stand barefoot with feet together, one hand holding back of a chair or touching a wall for support. Keeping both legs straight, raise right leg by lifting right hip off so foot is 2 inches off the floor. hold for about 6 secs then lower. Repeat 8 to 10 times then repeat with left leg. The last one is from my pregnancy exercise book.

A good physio at birth hospital should be able to sort you out. Take care.

parkj83 · 09/07/2010 12:42

Hi sazziej that sounds a little like SPD.

I think I developed mine partly cos I have a gammy hip anyway, but my SPD is concentrated more between my legs. I feel bruised most of the time, and I can feel grating/grinding if I walk too much. I also get problems if I do too much in the day, and I can be in severe pain in the evenings.

There's a great support group over on the pregnancy group, here

I would suggest to take it easy as much as possible. Some very good advice I was given

  • to keep your knees together when getting out of bed or in/out of the car. Swing your legs round, rather than lug them in/out one by one.
  • don't feel pressured to do too much round the house. Better to do a little bit here and there, rather than rush around, and pay for it later in the day.
  • don't move stuff with your feet! Sounds daft, and obvious, but I'm a terror for it! I subconsciously move my recycling box, the dog bowls, open/close doors, all sorts, and OMG I really shouldn't!

HTH x

xpost with L2D sorry!

sazziej · 09/07/2010 12:55

Thank you very much for your advice.... believe me I am going to rest it as much as possible over the weekend.

JodeyLea · 09/07/2010 13:12

Hi ladies. Thank you so much for the reassuring comments. Feeling much better today! Been for my check up at the hospital and it has really put the work situation into perspective. BellaBelly, it is secondary and all classes are on enrichment as of monday so you are totally right about not worrying. Heard baby's heartbeat again and it was loud and strong, though growth measurements were slightly above the max line but nothing to be concerned about! Haven't put too much weight on either which is good! Better start eating more chocolate!!! Am so excited to meet our little precious one in September and know I have totally done the right thing in not going back to work x x

parkJ83 I think it's just got to be a case of see what happens where the dogs are concerned. As long as we're careful and never leave the dog and child unattended (which obviously goes without saying really) then I'm sure they adapt. Rufus (he's a weimaraner) is great with todlers so I'm sure he'll be absolutely fine with a baby. As someone else mentioned on here, it's important not to shout at them or make them feel excluded from the family unit as that could result in jealousy.

Not long now most of us are in the third trimester. I wonder who will be the first to deliver out of you early september girls? Watch this space! Very exciting.

parkj83 · 09/07/2010 13:30

very definitely jodey

I trust Archie (the Dal) implicitely but would never intentionally leave him alone in a room with DC2. It'll be hard to do that actually, as my place is tiny, and also cos he either follows me everywhere or lies in his bed

I'm prepared for the whole curiosity thing, and I've got contingency plans in place so neither the dogs nor DS feel excluded from DC2's arrival. (I'm actually more worried about DS than the dogs on that one!!)

I've had the pram sat about the house at varying intervals, and clothes and things too, so they know those smells.

Ah well, let's see what happens

mellymooks · 09/07/2010 21:29

Hello everyone, wow have just tried to catch up on a weeks worth of chat!! So much is happening! Back from a lovely holiday with my family, I have been throughly spoilt by everyone and have had lots of naps and chill out time. Our daughter has loved having her Nanny, Papi, 2 Aunties plus her Mum and Dad all available for playing and entertainment for a whole week - I reckon she'll be bored when it's just me again on Monday

I am getting kicked so much, I didn't think it was possible to have an even wrigglier baby than last time but he is, they're so violent sometimes they make me physically jump or exclaim out loud! He's very active at night so I am getting a lot of practice on the sleep deprivation front

I've had some very full on BH's as well, I didn't really get them last time but they've been pretty full on at times.

2 weeks left at work for me, am looking forward to having one less thing to juggle for a few weeks before the main event.

30 + 1

MammyG · 09/07/2010 21:32

Oh my gosh it is all going on. Took ages to catch up!
Jody - I am a teacher too and had to take a few weeks off, like you found it hard to relax. I also live in a small town so was running into people if I stepped outside the door. Thing is I got really ill and that put it all in perspective for me. I will be a fantastic full on teacher when I get back but for now I have to be 100% protective mum and mind this little one who has only me to look after her. Friend of mine had shingles during pregnancy too and it is not nice. Plus you only get shingles if you have had the chicken pox otherwise you get straight chicken pox.
I had acupunture today. Very strange yet relaxing experience. And yes she said that acupunture has been known to turn the baby around. Also she said it can help with induction later on. I was induced on both boys and horrible experience last time so was nice to know I may be able to do something to help myself. I know of someone who knelt on all fours and used a torch up and down her belly to entice baby right way round?
Off to Ikea next week for shopping. Dh is wildly excited (not!) but I am! and following week two whole nights away just me, my man and a child free hotel room!!

parkj83 · 10/07/2010 10:06

lol mammyG with the ikea... it's t'other way round for me - I hate it, DH loves it!

comixminx · 10/07/2010 10:56

I've been keeping up with the thread regularly but posting is difficult because there's so many things to comment on and it all moves so fast!

I'm finding the baby's not so much kicking as wriggling vigorously - a still-strange and rather lovely feeling! My MW said I'd miss it after the baby's born and I expect that's true. Funny thing though is that when DP gives one of those myoclonic jerks when sleeping - that makes me think a bit of the baby too, as if he or she is doing that inside...

I have a twinge at the back of the pelvis that I sincerely hope is not PGP - but will keep a mental eye on it in case it continues / gets worse. It has stabbed me a couple of times over the past day or two but am hoping it's nothing much - let's see...

I woke up the other morning (4.45am) to the most wierdist (if that's a word!) sound ever coming from the left side of my stomach. It sounded like bubbles in water or something. Managed to reach for my phone and record it. My mum reckons it's my stomach gurgling but i'm 35 years old and my stomach has never ever made that sound before; so i beg to differ!!!!
Ordered my cots last night- amongst other things. Only have 1 bouncey chair, the pram, and a breast pump to go. I'm also on my 3rd load of washing baby stuff (decided i couldn't put it off forever). Just need to concentrate on my bag now. DD is off for a week hols next sat with grandparents- so will use the opportunity to organise everything then. (This is so not like me, usually last minute and late for everything)

parkj83 · 10/07/2010 16:22

Aww Sassy, I'd love to know what that noise is/was

I get clicks coming from my bump. I'll be sitting on the sofa, and Fidget will wriggle, and then I get a couple of very soft clicks coming from that area... not sure if it's where s/he's connecting with me, or what?!

I'm a clicky person anyway, and nighttimes are very uncomfortable - my SPD clicks a lot, and my back and hip, and wrists! No wonder I wake up every couple of hours!

As for getting things together, I think I need to send DH into the loft to start digging out stuff left from DS.

30!

sassy34264 · 10/07/2010 18:32

Parkj83 I get clicks too. I posted about it a week or two ago.
If i was even slightly technical, i might be able to put the noise/sound on here, but haven't a clue!
Sorry about your SPD. I had it quite bad a few months ago- went the physio and was given a belt, ended up in tears a few times with the pain and then one morning......nothing! Don't ask me how-no idea. Just praying it doesn't come back.

Jaysfourth · 10/07/2010 20:59

i dont have any ankles, in fact i have no calfs either, my feet have blended into the things i used to call my legs

Feel for those 'clicking' i have SPD also (although not as bad as i did with other pregnancies) and i have also being getting THE MOST TERRIBLE leg cramps in my inner thighs. My god its bad, i would rather give birth than have them ANY day

Saw consultant on Fri. she reckons i am measuring about, well about full term....great! Booked in for a growth scan on 6th Aug, she also couldnt tell what way round she is laying...great stuff, so am hoping all is well when i have the scan!

Is everyone warm enough!?

babyshoes · 10/07/2010 21:00

Hi, not had the clicks (but definitely read about it somewhere) and have experienced terrible pain in groin and hips. Had it badly with DS1 and then at about 4 months it started again. Feels like someone has kicked you in the pelvis and bruised it, mainly when you stand up and walk??? The hip thing feels like it could be sciatica (can't spell it?). I went to physio at the hospital after they told me that because i'd had it last time it will most likely stay with me and get worse this time! It's stopped! I haven't had it for about 8 weeks now, only explanation is change in hormones again when hitting 3rd trimester. I think the physio exercises helped and definitely making sure that i didn't sit for too long in the day and when manovering myself keeping legs together but i'm soooo glad it's over as it is a killer and last time it didn't go. Apparently it's do with having a flexible pelvis and i was also given a tubigrip thing to wear to help constrict movement but can only wear that under dress/skirt for obvious reasons and in this weather forget it, it's hot! I would definitely recommend seeing someone at the hospital tho, it helps.

babyshoes · 10/07/2010 21:05

leg cramps in inner thighs - ouch! i'm getting them in my calfs in the middle of the night and that's a killer but don't think i could handle it further up! funny how you forget all these things from the first time around. I had a sprained wrist last time (from being too heavy to support myself in yoga i think, and then had carpal tunnel in the other hand so had to wear wrist supports on both at night - sexy! fingers crossed it won't happen again...
