Well LC was a chilled, relaxed little baby boy (and still is very laid back). Slept through from 10ish to 7ish from 3 months. Didn't really do too much tantruming age 2 and has never (yet) pooed in the pool. He did have reflux and vommed a lot but you can't have eveerything.

I am SUCH a fab mother and all of you with screamy babies are rubbish, obviously.

Alternatively (back in the real world), from my observations of people who have had screamy babies, the delivery seems to be the most important part of things, although an easy delivery but a baby stuck in an awkward position before birth also has a huge impact. It seems that a traumatic delivery - anything from getting a bit stuck to ventouse/forceps (esp those) to em c sec just screws up their heads and backs and causes immenses distress. Sadly, this is rarely, if ever recognised and the poor parents have nowhere to turn - it's just called colic - it will pass - etc etc - and in the meantime it's just hell.

A friend of mine who is The Most Chilled Out person I know, mum to 3 little ones, had a horrible time with her first and I can assure you (having spent a lot of time with her) that it was absolutely nothing to do with parenting. Eventually she found out about cranial osteopathy and it worked miracles on the little guy. She'd had a reasonably traumatic delivery with him (3 day back to back labour). Her next two were delivered at home, serenely, drug-free and well positioned. She took them both straight to the CO anyway but they've both been completely different to her first, right from the start.

It's probably true that parents who are stressy themselves will pass that to the baby, but in most cases, there lies madness if you think it's your fault, as it really isn't.

I was just incredibly lucky I suppose.

Incidentally, traumatic birth doesn't always = problems (another friend had a tough time and a real chilled baby). And of course we're all going to have nice easy labours (but the baby's skull/spine may still be affected).

I'll get my coat.

Backinthebox · 24/06/2010 12:34

Just checking in to see if Cas has written a detailed essay on her birth experience yet - sadly not!

But Skates - I'll come back later when I have a bit more time and tell you about slings. Baby Bjorn not great, but mass marketed so popular. There are better and cheaper (and frankly, more attractive!) options. In the meantime anyone else who wants to tell Skate about slings - dive in!

organiccarrotcake · 24/06/2010 12:56

cosmo does your friend have a shop or anywhere we can go to to try slings or carriers? Is she local to us?

CUNextTuesday · 24/06/2010 13:40

Just opened a parcel from my mum and it's a proper knitted going home jacket . Rastus is going to be a right bobby dazzler. When he eventually decides to make an appearance

PollyPoo · 24/06/2010 13:45

Do I take it all has stopped Cunty?

Where is Curly?!

CUNextTuesday · 24/06/2010 13:47

Nothing doing today. Can wait now if it likes, now it's not going to be PESHTWINZ with ghostie's little one.

Poor curls - I wonder if she knows how much pressure she's under to report back

organiccarrotcake · 24/06/2010 13:49

cunty on the other hand this is your opportunity to up the stakes by updating for longer into your labour.

OK, ok, so I'm being competitive by proxy.

Another thought - we need to give our OHs our MN passwords so THEY can update for us!!! Assuming we can't be bothered/are thinking about other things.

CUNextTuesday · 24/06/2010 14:06

Hom won't be anywhere near the internat I can assure you

But I'll get some messages to ski and she can update...

skihorse · 24/06/2010 14:14

cunty assuming I'm not in a 1-2-1 race with you. If I am, I'm passing the mantle to cossie!

What do we think of these? [[http://www.allbabyneeds.co.uk/Shop/ewan-the-dream-sheep-baby-sleep-aid-by-easidream/prod_1773.html ] - I'm finding myself internet shopping for Julian and thems is so cute!

silver Tsk about Pumpkin Patch- I've just had a look, lovely stuff!

I'm a bit worried about curly - anyone within stalking stomping distanct?

rots Jailbait was dragged out using forceps (has a scar above his eyebrow). He was black & not breathing, his mother unconscious - his dad didn't know which one was dying soonest. Needless to say happily back home she dragged him to the doctor because "all he does is sleep & eat, never cries". Doctor said "lucky lady!".

TwinkleToes76 · 24/06/2010 15:25

oh oh oh, congratulations curlywurly! Hope you are snuggled up resting with the new addition. Welcome to the crazy world of parenting!

organiccarrotcake · 24/06/2010 15:25

ski oooh poor JB and mum

As I said, not ALL traumatic births cause a problem . But, it's often the case and I was really just going with boxy that it's not just down to good/bad parenting (and an upset baybee can seriously quickly affect your self-judgement so whatever happens, that's worth remembering).

Course you could end up with the perfect baybee and you have every right to be all smug about it .

organiccarrotcake · 24/06/2010 15:27

VVVVVV delighted for you caspy

Really hope you're feeling ok and all went well. Can't wait to hear your news and see piccies!

CUNextTuesday · 24/06/2010 15:33

Hoorah!!!

skihorse · 24/06/2010 15:35

Hoorah + "oh holy jesus".

Backinthebox · 24/06/2010 15:46

Yay! A baybee! I hope mine is taking note and arrives nice an early for me (not too early though! Cas seems to have planned it just right.) Anyway - well done Cas, hope everything is lovely for you!

Backinthebox · 24/06/2010 15:51

And now that the CurlyCasperShow has finished, plz for Ski to take up residence on this thread for our delectation and delight. I couldn't possibly say anything for fear I will be banned from t'internet forums for life. Anyway - just popping to the fridge to get a nice big glass of Coke and then settle down for the entertainment!

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 24/06/2010 15:56

Huzzah! A PESHbaby! Lots of love Casp, get some rest and then tell us all the nice bits!

Re: relaxed babies - sorry all, seem to have set of a chain of comments, and I was only teasing ski really.... But nice to hear it won't be my fault totally if Clint is the spawn of Satan.

Me no likey workey today - downside of public funding being silly requests from sponsoring depts for huge amounts of information in absolutely no time. Got in early to go home before rush hr and am now stucksky. Hairy bumholes.

skihorse · 24/06/2010 16:00

Fucking hell boxer - you know what? I deliberately avoided that bloody board today so as not to lose my rag with any insipid fucknuts and you go and point me at one. Just like that! Must.Control.Rage. My answer was very restrained... Wtf are these eejits eating and drinking for their gestation?

curly I'm so so so SO happy for you, I've updated Cosmosis who is also delighted. Plz to details?

Backinthebox · 24/06/2010 16:13

Skates a quick Baby Bjorn comment here (although you have to read between the lines about it.) I would say you really can't go wrong with ringing Cos's friend Little Possums and asking them. You can get structured carriers which are very similar in look to a Baby Bjorn but aren't crotch danglers. For me though, I like something you can fold up really small and then whip out and stun people with the ease, beauty and practicality of it . That kind of description could cover any of the slings, pouches or wraps they do. There is a forum called Natural Mamas too which is very detailed (and just a little bit obsessive!) but I suspect they would need smelling salts if you mentioned gin to them!

Ski I aim to please. What did you think to the poodle-horse, btw?

Backinthebox · 24/06/2010 16:14

PS very restrained, Ski. You stick to the food queries, and I'll do the travel ones. Between us I think we have all bases covered.

PollyPoo · 24/06/2010 16:55

Ski I haz been coveting this for the shrimp... here

Can't stop grinning about BabyCasp! Another BESH baybee, yay!

FannyPriceless · 24/06/2010 17:11

Yay for caspy and mini-casp! Me so happy! Hope you are feeling all blissed out right now.
