Well I came on this morning to have a chat with the laydees and there's nowhere to go

So here we are, new room, new danishes (thanks Laurie) and hopefully soon some new attendees.

All welcome, come in, come in and enjoy the brie, Krug and softly cooked eggs (not necessarily at the same time).

Oooo new digs, nice! Thanks rots! ski I think I'm suffering both wind and ligaments, though the wind is easily identifiable as its somewhere under my boobs (that's not as odd as it sounds, they are in fact hanging quite low...nice!). Nice NOT LIST btw F

moo I too have been subjected to the "don't take the pram into the house" scaremongering from both my neighbours and my mother. But you know I've walked on cracks, under ladders and across the path of a black cat and nothing untoward has happened yet. My mum was like, ooh you should leave it at the shop until you need it, but that's not very practical now is it? And the only reason we're appearing organised is that we were on hold for a good fornight and felt we needed to catch up... so actually purchasing stuff for the baby now is our way of rebonding with the whole pregnancy thing... I say take your time and enjoy picking and choosing, we will be from now on! Though I do need to get some storage boxes to start orgainising things so I don't go baby crazy and end up with 10 of everything I don't need 10 of... In relation to baby monitors we're getting ours now because my aim will be to have baby in own room fairly quickly and even when they're in our room to get them to nap on their own, so the monitor will help me keep an eye whilst baby relaxes and I am doing frantic chicken impressions downstairs...

silver good luck with consultant appt - I'm waiting for mine with the fat chick preggo doctor to come through so they can figure out how to cope with my ample masses when I end up in hospital, I'm kinda hoping it's the woman who did my amnio as she knew her shit and didn't mess around. I think I'll need someone bossy like that when I give up pusing after 20 hours of not getting anywhere and I'm queuing up for my very own convertable belly top.

donttry good pointer on the wifi interference, I'd not thought of that. Will have to get OH to add that to his list of must nots when we shortlist the favourites... I like the sound of the clip on the nappy thing too, I wonder if that'd be better than the thing that goes under the mattress... Glad for you recommendation on the disposables as well, I started looking into that particular area of baby requirements and felt immediatily lost in the sea of information and choices, so I'll be looking at the bumgenius today.

lorry hmm danishes, I'm eating this one for you Mum (who has just spent 30 minutes telling me to stop eating as I've enough fat to feed me and the baby for 3 years....)

... Ok she might not have been that direct but that's what my preggo ears heard....

skihorse · 14/06/2010 10:35

reggie Your man will be in his absolute element researching baby monitors vs. WIFI! That'll keep him amused for hours and hours - a mini-project if you will.

I didn't even know I was at risk of killing my baybee by having the pram indoors. It's been there since when? January? I don't even see it anymore - which is just as well as the sight of it used to make me cry.

Right, so about 90 minutes ago I got a phonecall from the Town Hall (oh ye who must be obeyed). In addition to 'proving' we've never been married we've now got to prove we're erm... British! You'd have thought the birth certificates, passports with "town of birth" stated, languages etc., etc. would've given some sort of clue... Now I could almost understand it if we were from outside the EU and would be claiming Dutch nationality - BUT our baybee is entitled to British citizenship and that's that. That's actually all he's entitled to.

Am tempted to drive to Calais in early labour with plan of giving birth in Dover - which is probably the worst hospital in all of Englandom. But knowing my fucking luck Julian would fly out approx 4 miless off of Calais and be born in international waters and ergo become property of the UN and citizen of nowhere.

reginaMonologue · 14/06/2010 11:28

ski you could always be visiting me just before your due, that way I can run you over some speed humps and stuff you full of curry before ringing the ambulance and whisking you away to the hospital.... OR, you could just lay it out on the carpet in the lounge... really any amount of staining wouldn't ruin it!

Did anyone else notice that their appetite declined in the second trimester? I'm really just not feeling that hungry these days, especially by tea time, really the last thing I want to do is eat, I feel full with out devouring a morsel, which is most unlike me, especially when you consider I ate for england in the first trimester despite the morning sickness... Also, belly buttons. Anyone else notice they got a weird sensation from the belly button pit into the groin region when they pee or bend over?

TwinkleToes76 · 14/06/2010 11:38

Hi all - anyone remember me? It's been 6 cycles since my miscarriage in January but finally this morning got a very light 2nd line on a test! Am over the moon but bricking it in case it all goes tits up again. But while I remain pregnant - can I come back in and join the deli? Pleeeeease?

Congrats Fannypriceless (were you PM before??)

rots · 14/06/2010 11:59

Ooooh, congrats to twinkle (I'm not a very silent lurker, am I?)

Exciting times - you crazy fools, youse lot having baybees! Tis very, very exciting......

reginaMonologue · 14/06/2010 12:03

twinkle yes, many congrats to you! Here pull up a chair, have some brie and I'll just mix you up a cocktail or 3....

skihorse · 14/06/2010 12:12

Congratulations twinkles! You are right about Fanny. So glad you're back with us.

reggie Yes, my appetite definitely abated in the second trimeter and although I still eat a lot I'm mostly done by mid-afternoon and by the time I get home can't be tempted by much more than weetabix.

donttrythisathome · 14/06/2010 12:30

Congrats twinkle!!

Who asked about eh monitors - baby brain can't remember. Anyway i only got mine last week 912 weeks) as before that we were spedning most of the evening getting her to sleep and then as paranoid first-timers one of us was staying up there with her. Believe me no-one else I know was this paranoid so don't do it people!!! Regina I got the clip on thing as I have a narrow hammock for her to sleep in and the breathing mat wouldn't fit. I used have a huge appetite at lunchtime and hardly any at all in the evening which was a right pain as I never felt like dinner.

The bumgenius are washables not disposies BTW,

Waves to laurie me ole mucker on the TCC thread and fellow noser on this thread.

donttrythisathome · 14/06/2010 12:30

Feck 0 thats 12 weeks not 912 unless I has her when I was a toddler.

reginaMonologue · 14/06/2010 12:36

dont doh! I meant reusable/washables... being a dumb ass as normal! T'was me and moo asking about monitors and associated paranoia... of baby spying. I've no doubt for the first couple of weeks I won't believe the monitor or OH for substantive proof all is OK with baby... so I'll be up and down the stairs as frequently as I'm currently visiting the bog.

I am glad to see the consensus on 2nd trimester eating habits... maybe my lack of appetite will abate the incoming tide of weight gain from the first trimester I have undoubtedly subjected myself to. I have to say, I am mucho feeling pregnant now, even when I'm walking I can feel that my posture has changed and the waddle is developing nicely...

skihorse · 14/06/2010 12:47

reggie You'll really know you're pregnant when you start going "ooof" when you sit down, when you really waddle like a duck and when you place one hand on the small of your back as you waddle.

I tried to buy some washables on ebay and the bids for second hand stuff were ridiculous. Here in NL the prices are beyond exorbitant - it's probably cheaper to just buy a new baybee each time it poos - so I'll be using rots shop.

Btw - things are looking very promising over in the Palace - I expect we'll have a couple of new joiners in the next week or so.

FannyPriceless · 14/06/2010 13:08

Congrats twinklestar!

I have spent the morning developing a very complex detailed weight loss target spreadsheet for the year ahead. Have only just realised that I have eaten an entire packet of M&Ms while doing this, without even thinking. Doh!

rots · 14/06/2010 13:12

Hey laurie. So what's this news, then???

OP posts:
rollerbaby · 14/06/2010 13:29

reggie I got that funny feeling too when you bend over or go for a wee!! It feels like there's no space to bend over, or like everythings shifting when you wee... Most odd. Still haven't felt much definite movement - the odd twinge here and there. Come on baby!!

I know what you mean about buying stuff too. Went a bit mad last week but was lovely. I was literally weeping in mamas and papas looknig at all the ickle stuff, not actually believing this is for MY baybee and not a present for someone else like usual.

CONGRATS Twinkletoes!! very good work. Enjoy weeing on sticks every hour for the next week cos you can't believe it! I was such a nutter in that regard.

My appetite has definitely gone down a bit I'd say, and also not really craving so much crap any more and much more consicous of having healthier stuff (as well as biscuits and brownies of course). It's a nice feeling, and I even walked up the tube escalators this morning. WOOOOOAAAAHHHHHH get that.

By the way - I'm actually due 31st October now... creeping up the charts! Silver when is you due again - is it def 21st?

skihorse · 14/06/2010 13:30

Yes honey! There is a definite shift from "I want a big mac and I want it now followed by a supernoodles chaser" to a "hmmn, you know what I'd like? a nice, fresh rocket salad". And yet, none of us who lived on onion rings & custard creams have broken the baybee yet.

Backinthebox · 14/06/2010 13:53

Welcome to Twinkle about time there were some more new people round here!

Ski I am remembering now that the Dutch are actually the most laid back and chilled xenophobes on the planet - but xenophobes nonetheless! What a faff.

Talking of faffs - well done and good luck to everyone trying reusables! I had a couple of Wee Notions with DD as emergency I-haven't-been-to-the-shops-and-bought-disposables-yet-this-week back-ups. Very pretty, but a faff. On the one hand, with disposables you are filling up landfill, but on the other hand you are not using gallons of water and detergent. My washing machine outflows into a 300 year old cesspit (but don't tell the environment agency that! We are not on the mains for sewage at all, and only the loos and shower drain into a septic tank,) and I use it as little as possible as the overflow goes into one of my fields, and I don't want loads of grey water splashing around down there. My sister used those washing nuts that you can get, but apparently they have a bit of trouble with really wet-pooey nappy stains. It's swings and roundabouts really.

This week's new symptom is rib pain. Ah, yes, the feeling comes flooding back as if it were yesterday - last time I got really bad rib flare, which started as pins and needles along the top of the bump just below the ribcage. Last night I got pins and needles.... It was fooking agony last time and I had it till about 39 weeks. So just another 2 and a half months of it to go then. On the plus side, OH has noticed I haven't swelled up as much yet as I did last time. And I'm not complaining about my feet hurting as much.

Cosmosis · 14/06/2010 13:56

Oh yay twinkle what a fab way to start new fred

is any of you preggos soppy enough to do anything for Fathers Day on Sat? Am thinking of buying a book to put all scan pics in of Artie for TGO (and god knows we have enough of them!). Is that naff?

rots · 14/06/2010 14:29

As long as you wash at 40, avoid tumbling where possible, and don't (get this, this is actual government advice) don't IRON your nappies (I mean, Jeeeeez), washables are always better for the environment (consider the amount of water/chemicals/bleach used to make sposies, plus transportation - it's not just about landfill).

I use soap nuts for baby/kids clothes but not nappies. They just don't cut the mustard, as it were. I just used our Bio-D (which is non-bio) for nappies but any non bio is fine, or Ecover etc.

Obviously if you have specific drainage problems like box then it's a problem, but if not, then they're cheaper, better for the baby and for the environment. Thasafakt.

And ski don't forget to use the checkout code for your 10% discount, if you do buy from me. It's "mumsnet".

CurlyCasper · 14/06/2010 15:07

Hello, hello, hello!

Congrats to twinkle great to have you back!
And welcome to laurielurker - what's new with you?

Well, after buying some eco 'sposies for the hospital and receiving a rather large 'sposie filled nappy cake yesterday, I now have plenty of both options to be going on with. Ebay is good ski, but we were very lucky with our job lot of washable paraphernalia.

I has news on the "potentially growth restricted" BabyCass - SHE IS FAT!!!!!
Scan today showed my 34+5 weeker has the belly of a 37+ weeker! Head and legs pretty average, but belly huge. I have been feeding her well (guess she likes pizza as much a mummy then)*
However, they still want another growth scan and consultant app in four weeks, after I have seen my rheumatologist again, and they still won't entertain the idea of me actually giving birth in water. ("maybe you can use the pool for early labour..." - BAH!)
I just wish they would tell me what exactly they are anticipating happening...
Anyway, I'm still hoping and wishing she'll arrive within those four weeks and I'll be shot of all those annoying doctors sooner rather than later.

sorry reg* I've been scoffing non-stop throughout. Never had the urge for anything healthy.

Thanks for startign the new fred rots.

TwinkleToes76 · 14/06/2010 15:36

Fanks for the welcome back youse lot, hope I stick around for longer this time. I have just been in France eating much pate and brie, which I never normally eat, and drinking lots of wine, so I must have known I was heading back to the deli.

I'm not actually due on for another 4 days but already the time is dragging! It's so boring this early bit isn't it? Other half is on other side of the world for the next month so I've no one but you lot to get excited with!

I'm off to read up on what's been happening with you all while i've been in the pit of doom these past 5 months...

rots · 14/06/2010 15:53

Hey twink you know what they say, a line is a line...

cas I don't understand, if you're asking them directly why they won't allow you to deliver in water, they are just not answering?

Great news about baby size!
