Ahhh a thread that I don't have to wait 2 minutes for. Thanks AbFabT

I Have just wandered off round some of the other threads and am now having total labour panics!!! I am totally petrified of all things medical and can't even watch casualty without coming over all faint. So the gooey yucky stuff is really freaking me out!!! I think that I am going to treat myself to a weak wine and lemonade and stick my head back in the sand.

SamanthaB123 · 05/06/2010 17:32

Hello, thanks for doing the new thread AbFab!

All well here, not really looking forward to going back to school. The summer term is long and hot especially in a south facing classroom with a large amount of glass , not made with the pregnant in mind oddly enough! It's always really busy too.

Can't wait now for my scan on Monday, DH is still insistant that it's a boy, I still think a girl although I have my suspicsions (how do you spell that???) that it might actually be a boy too. We'll see, the suspense is killing me, it had better not be proud !

Elsa I am really glad that you are ok, I was really worried. Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine, it's roasting here...SB

SamanthaB123 · 05/06/2010 17:36

Mamjo Don't worry about labour, there is nothing you can do now. Your baby has to come out someway somehow. Bear in mind too that you are at the 'head end' and all the yucky stuff tends to happen where you can't see it. I don't remember any of that part nor do I remember seeing anything yucky. I was rather sidetracked with everything else I was feeling. Book some good ante natal classes and read as much as you can about the actual process - but not horror stories. Feeling prepared and in control makes a massive difference. It will be fine .

Xavielli · 05/06/2010 17:40

Mamjo ~I second what Sam said, I can't remember anything medical after I had those babies in my arms. Never saw any nastiness, you really have better things to be looking at/interested in by that point!

mamjo · 05/06/2010 17:43

Thanks sam it was the state of things after the main event that has me feeling wobbly kneed but I am sure that I will take it in my stride when it happens.
I have booked the whole suite of NCT courses in August/September as I figured I had better face upto all that stuff at some point. Thanks for the advise.

mamjo · 05/06/2010 17:46

Thanks xav I am sure you are right. This being the 1st I need all the reassurance I can get

floozietoozie · 05/06/2010 17:47

Well done AbFab!

Aw Mamjo, don't be worried about labour. There's no reason it need be medical. Be confident in your body's ability to do its stuff and go with your instincts on the day. Labour is the most amazing experience you'll ever have because you will have your very own new life at the end of it. The more relaxed/confident you are generally, the easier your body will find it. There, do I sound earth mother ish enough ? I do mean it though. And don't let them keep you on your back!

floozietoozie · 05/06/2010 17:53

Xposts with the others, and you're doing the right thing, as Sam said, getting as prepared as possible - if you know what's happening at various stages, you'll feel much better.

AbFabT · 05/06/2010 18:27

No worries!

mamjo, this is my first, and I've read LOADS of birth stories, but I've read lots of positive ones too. My friend recommended this book, which I have ordered - she (my friend!) raves about the mindset being very helpful, and that this book really stops you dwelling on the pain! Can't hurt!

marking my place!

ILoveGregoryHouse · 05/06/2010 18:33

Evening All. Just marking my place.19 weeks today.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 05/06/2010 19:00

Just marking my place, 23 weeks today

re labour- sam speaks wise words.

ok, back to our day of fun, BBQ done, now chocolate and trash tv as ds is in bed!

Hope you are enjoying your weekends

NinthWave · 05/06/2010 19:06

Lucky you SeaShells getting your DS in bed already! I let mine sleep for an hour this afternoon, and he is currently 'helping' DH water the plants in the back garden...I have a feeling bedtime is still some way off...!

mamjo I found this book really helpful and entertaining last time round - agree with previous posters that you really don't notice the 'medical' stuff as you're concentrating on contractions etc. I was always a bit squeamish about having to pass the placenta, but actually don't even remember doing it as I was on such a high after my DS was born - I chatted nonsense to the MW as she delivered it!

mamjo · 05/06/2010 19:48

Thanks for the book recommendations ladies, I will get them ordered this week.

Vikks · 05/06/2010 19:52

Lovely new thread, all this space!

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekends. I?m de-stressing nicely after all the fun and games of last week at work.

Mamjo I?m another labour virgin, I think we?ve got loads of experience on this thread for some serious ?hand holding?, I?m gonna need it too! I?m trying to block it out for the time being, he?s coming out one way or another.

Ninth I might give that book a go; it looks like just what I need.

TMI alert! This being my first PG I was very freaked out this morning when I woke up with wet boobs. Call me naive but I wasn?t expecting that this early. Perfectly normal?

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 05/06/2010 20:04

Vikks- leaky boobs perfectly normal, as long as there is no pain or smell. Welcome to the world of breast pads! You can get disposible or washable- both good, boots have them.

Get lanisoh if you are hoping to breast feed! You can get it on prescription foc post natally, it's that good

ds is in bed as he is 19mths and has had a very exciting day! He sleeps for 2 hrs each pm which gives me a good nap time, hope your ds goes to bed soon!

NinthWave · 05/06/2010 20:21

My DS is 2.10 and doesn't really need his nap anymore, but I can't resist the opportunity to lie on the sofa for an hour

Hermya321 · 05/06/2010 20:44

marking my place. Hope you're all well.

AbFabT · 05/06/2010 21:19

9th, I've just ordered that book too! Thanks! They'll be wondering why the sudden flurry of interest!

tiredfeet · 05/06/2010 22:04

ooh thank you for the book suggestions, I've done a bit of reading about labour but was wanting to know more about active birth/ hypnobirthing, to go alongside the more medical information. I've mainly got my head in the sand about that aspect of getting a baby at the minute, but know I will need to start facing up to it soon.

anyway, I'm heading off for a little holiday tomorrow, so hope you all have a lovely week

SilverSky · 06/06/2010 07:41

Reporting for duty! 21wks tomorrow.

It's forecast to rain today and it's already feeling muggy. Perhaps there is a storm brewing!
