Hello

My scan was fabulous today, we are having a baby girl and are delighted. She was so cool and is just perfect. DH will be completly outnumbered in a household of four women . We need more bathrooms!

The sonographer did find a cyst on one of my ovaries though that wasn't picked up at the 12 week scan. I'm going back for a follow up scan in four weeks. I don't really know whether to be worried or not, she said to wait and see how/if it changed in that time. Anyone have cysts who can offer info?

nymphadora · 07/06/2010 21:19

SamB congrats on the girl don't know anything about cysts though

sam12 · 07/06/2010 21:39

SamB congratulations on your little girl. A cyst was found on my ovary at 12 weeks scan and lots of people on here reassured me that they are nothing to worry about and usually just get absorbed into the pregnancy. Despite that I still googled it- big mistake! Anyway at 20 week scan it had vanished- so try not to worry and be reassured that they are monitoring it

MMooMar · 07/06/2010 22:24

Hi All,

Hope everyone is doing ok today, still trying to trawl through the last few(or more!)posts on the old thread. Congrats on all the boy and girl bumps too.

FLOOZIE so glad the full results were fine, how much better do you feel now? Mine came back ok too and I felt sooooo happy!
Did you decide not to find out what you were having? My family and friends all said I was going to have a girl ,I was the only one who said I was going to have a boy and a boy we are having! Will be in a totally male dominated household now!

Did I miss ELSA post again after she had been to the G.P ,did try and skim over the other posts to see if she had but didnt spot anything.

SAMB Dont know much about the cysts,I have got one too which they will check again at my 20wk scan on Wednesday.Had one when I was having DS2 aswell but that one just faded away on its own,Its all to do with hormones and are very common during pregnancy and most like mine go away without treatment but thats about all I know.

Glad to say that the school holiday is over but only 7 weeks til the big un! Kids have drove me mad.
Been a crap week with my Dad too, they have decided not to fit him a false limb and have instead decided that he needs 24hr nursing care and will need to go into a home so we have to find a suitable one asap, its all rather

Anyway ,dont want to dwell on that too much....so whose been looking at pushchairs yet ,anyone decided what to have yet.I might take a trip to Kiddicare in Peterborough and have good look there. At least I know not to look at anything pink now.

Take care all
xxxxx

Sorry to hear about your dad Mmoomar. Yes I've been to the GP and had a scan last Friday too. All is well! Save for a scary dream last night where I lost the baby.

SamB- I have a cyst, detected at the 12 wk scan and I asked for them to check it at the 20 week scan and its not got much bigger so its being left alone, but as its caused me pain at ovulation for the last 2 years and the pain ignored by my GP as 'hormonal' I will seek to have it removed after the birth. I have heard that its worth keeping an eye on them during pregnancy as if they grow fast and huge they can impede birth. I really don't think its worth getting too worried over as they know its there now and I am sure will have a coping strategy to deal with it.

ILGH- thank you for your reassuring words and example of your son x x x

Mmoomar- I think I will be heading to Kiddicare one Friday afternoon on my commute up North- I hear its very good for a bargain.

SilverSky · 08/06/2010 10:34

Morning ladies, congrats to all with baby gender news. Very exciting !!

I still can't bring myself to buy anything. We have decided to wait til week 30. I can see the baby arriving and we will have nothing for it!!

elsa if you ever fancy meeting up when you are in my neck of the woods, then just say! Totally understand if you prefer not to.

Have bought couple of preggo books. One is the day to day one with pics and Husband will be in his element as he already enjoys telling me little facts about he baby and why I might be feeling a certain way. It's his way of being involved.

Husband can't feel any of the prods or pushes that I can yet.

I am forbidding myself from googling anything. One way to scare the living daylights out of me.

Have also heard stories of parents and IL's being pushy and taking over. Even when the mum is still in the hospital. Like a new mum needs any of that aggravation!!

nunnie · 08/06/2010 11:18

Congratulations on lady bump. I had a cyst found on an early scan with DD, they monitored it throughout pregnancy it was 8cms and never changed size, so they left it. Scanned me post birth 6weeks, and it had gone, so I was told it is common and it probably burst during labour. So try not to worry. I was offered surgery at my first consultant appointment, which would have involved removing the ovary as he sais they don't have time to fiddle about when there is a baby inside, so they do the quickest option of removal. I oopted not to, and was told I had made a good choice, but he can't be seen to advise me it had to me my choice. So don't panic if they do offer surgery it doesn't mean you need to have it.
What they will tell you is if you get severe not being able to move as in so much pain and screaming agony, phone an ambulance (which apparently you will do with this pain as it is that bad), as the cyst may have twisted. I only ever got dull aches from mine that's why they thought I was ectopic and did the early scan.
They will look after you. Hope that helps a wee bit.

nunnie · 08/06/2010 11:21

That message was for SamB sorry.

I have been offered lots of baby boy clothes and bits for courier cost only under £10 most not worn as her baby was a big one and missed newborn. So I have snapped her hand off, so I suppose I am starting to buy things now, but I have nowhere to put the items I've bought yet
With DD I don't think I bought anything until I was 30 weeks or so, mainly for storage reasons.

RooBear · 08/06/2010 11:49

morning, ref when to take leave, I think I'm doing the same as mamjo taking 2 weeks leave from 36/37 weeks, before my 6 months of maternity. I'd rather work before than after, so I can spend as much time as possible with the LO, health dependant of course! work up with another nose bleed this morning at 4am wonder if its worth getting my blood pressure checked out?

nunnie · 08/06/2010 12:36

RooBear, I would if I were you to be on the safe side.

nymphadora · 08/06/2010 14:11

May as well Roo, I just get mine done by the nurse at the GP then they pass me over if there is a problem.

floozietoozie · 08/06/2010 15:53

Afternoon ladies. I'm just back from my sweaty office to pick up the present for my niece and swimming gear then it's off to collect ds and drive to nieces swming party for her 8th birthday. I've been in work since seven and have a dodgy stomach, went to the loo three times in 20 mins or less last night! I'd rather not have to get into a swimming pool but ds can't go if I don't so there we are. It's a 30 mile drive there and I have to come back tonight as he's got an appt first thing.

SamB I've got a 5cm cyst on one ovary. I've had a small cyst for two years or more, endometriosis related as I've had them before, but it has grown from week 11 to week 17 so I'm hoping it's not going to get much bigger. I've had two cysts removed in the past, one 8cm, one about 3-4 and they were touching at the back apparently. Are you having extra scans?

Elsa123 · 08/06/2010 17:01

Silversky- thats a lovely idea- I'll have to see when I'm around and if this fits with you! x x

mamjo · 08/06/2010 17:12

Sorry girls but it's moan time!!

I am in so much pain today following yesterdays scan!! It is kind of a wave of pain every few seconds moving across my lower abdominal/pubic area from left to right. I knew that it hurt at the time but was so focused on LO that I must have blocked it out.

god knows what I am gonna be like with labour if I can't handle the discomfort of the scan

Roo I had a few nosebleeds last week and went to the doctors who just said "your pregnant, it happens" I then asked him to check my blood pressure to ease my mind and he rolled his eyes at me (the cheek), everything was fine though so don't worry, but I would get them to check it if I were you.

piesey · 08/06/2010 17:17

I'm planning on working up to 38 weeks but I can change my mind later on if I feel that it';s getting too much. I'm worried I might be a bit bored if say the baby is a week or so late. My sister had a month off before her baby actually came and she was climbing the walls - I had to lend her all my DVD box sets as she had watched hers over and over!

On another topic - does anyone know if having an anterior placenta would mean you can't fly? I'm supposed to be going to the US at the end of July when I'll be 26/27 weeks and I saw on another thread someone mentioned this being a problem. I know from my 12 week scan the pacenta was anterior then but my 20 week scan is not until next week so I'm not sure if I still do.... There's plenty of time until I go, but I'm just interested...

DillyDora · 08/06/2010 17:27

Hi All, thanks for all the info about when you're going off. I am about to sit down with pen and paper (and my tongue sticking out the corner of my mouth) and work it all out.

Congrats on boysy and girlsy news!

Silversky you make me feel better - still can't bring myself to shop!

I had a cyst found in my 20s and presume it's still there as it hurts every month but no one has mentioned it on my pregnancy scans so assuming it's fine... hope I wasn't supposed to mention it!

mamjo sorry about the pain thing - what's that all about? Is it you who has SPD? So sorry if it is.

Sorry about your dad moomar

xx

Tyson86 · 08/06/2010 17:40

Hi all, its my ds' 2nd birthday tomorrow and looks like it might get cancelled or put back a day as he has a poorly tummy and our plans are nowhere near a baby change and involve him getting soaked. Although its weather permitng aswell.

mamjo · 08/06/2010 18:00

That's a shame Tyson. probably best to wait till he is fully fit anyway so that he enjoys it more.

AbFabT · 08/06/2010 18:17

Sorry to hear about the pains and cysts, and MMM, sorry to hear about your dad's situation.

I'm still off work with no resolution forthcoming, so I am a bit up in the air about telling them when I was going to work up until. I had always thought I'd work up to as late as possible (EDD is a Monday - I thought I'd tell them I'd work up until the previous Friday!!! ) - I work a five-minute walk from the office, and pre-nightmare situation, had a stressfree job I could do with my eyes shut. And first babies are often late, and I just wanted my maternity pay/leave to last as long as possible the other side.
I've also still got 42 days of annual leave to take before March, no idea how that works, if they add it on to my maternity leave, or pay me if I don't use it. Hm, I should find out! ILGH - any advice, or is it all very different from employer to employer?

DH felt our baby move this morning for the first time. It was a gorgeous moment.

nunnie · 08/06/2010 18:25

Not sure about the flying thing, not something I've heard about sorry. Ask your midwife they will know

DillyDora · 08/06/2010 18:43

AbFab you need to let them know when you want to start mat leave no later than 15 weeks before bubba is due, you're not obliged to tell them before that but you must tell them by that date to qualify for your maternity leave.

Hope that helps - HR should be able to help re annual leave and stuff, I'm hoping to tack it on the end so I can go back 'part time' for a bit using AL days (our year runs from August to Sept).

Nice about DH

Sorry about the party Tyson

nunnie · 08/06/2010 18:44

I think I have found the thread you were referring too piesey, and from what I gather it is if it is low lying. Is yours low lying?
I have an anterior placenta and I only found out when I checked my notes from the scan, it wasn't even mentioned, so I presume it is high.

nymphadora · 08/06/2010 19:40

abfab mine is april to April and I can carry over 3 days and thats it so am finishing v early. When I go back I will have 5 months worth then to use more or less straight away to ease myself in gradually. (assuming I take a year).

piesey · 08/06/2010 19:53

Hi nunnie - not sure what mine is at the moment - but I'll find out next week so fingers crossed it's not too low lying. I'm a bridesmaid at my SIL's wedding so not being able to fly might cause a few problems!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 08/06/2010 19:58

Hello everyone!
Congrats on the scans it really starts getting real now!
I still have not bought anything for LO, last time I didn't get anything until after 30 weeks, I get strangely superstitious about it-really out of character I really need to get ready.

Mmoomar your poor dad. I hope you find him a comfortable home soon.
No idea when I'll finish work- it was 30 weeks last time due to relocation and a tough job, this time it may be more like 34 or 36 weeks, I'm not really sure! I need my mat b1 form sorted though.

Nothing really to report- I'd like to feel lo more, and ds is running a fever thanks to pesky teething so another broken night ahead, poor little man
