Woohoo halfway today! Thanks you for all the drinks ideas - think I will try the cranberry, ginger beer and soda one. Luckily I have a pregnant friend who will be coming to the BBQ so won't be the only one not staying up drinking til all hours.

The rain was a relief this weekend as I got far too hot and bothered on saturday at a village fair. Roll on thursday and scan time. Good luck to all those who have theirs today - it's so exciting!

Once that is done I will start thinking about shopping, though we have lots of stuff from dd. I am going to treat myself to a new pushchair though - probably an M&P Sola as I want one that will work with a buggy board for the walk to school.

Morning all- back at work and it feels really quite stuffy- We're on the top floor and its freezing in winter and boiling in summer. The thunder and lightening on Saturday night was quite something in Lincolnshire, forked lightening. I got up in the middle of the night to go to the loo and jumped out of my skin at the lightening flash!

Nymph- I hope your baby movements have been more obvious- it is concerning but I do believe that the position shift at this stage is the biggest culprit. At my scan last Monday, the baby was mmoving loads and I could not feel a thing. With the scan on Friday it was moving loads and I could (it had its legs totally over its head in the breech position with the spine on my right hand side), but I deliberately had an ice cream before I went in . Something sweet does seem to help if you want to feel movement.

Floozie- I have an upright dyson all floors which I've had for 6 years and it goes well. You do have to rinse out the spongy filter to keep the suction, but thats not hard to do and it is a little work horse given that our house in lincolnshire is a dusty building site. I recently bought a follow along brand new dyson for our rented house in bucks and it is very good, but the 'max' fill level is very low and fills up in no time and you find yourself emptying the cylinder twice in a hoovering session, whereas with the upright its emptied twice in a month. The follow along has a different head for hard floors which is very good but a faff to change whereas the upright adjusts itself automatically. The follow along does have a tendency to fall over, but the automatic flex winder is cool. Dyson's are really easy to take apart and clean and most of it can be washed. It is however rubbish that it doesn't lose suction. It does; especially if you've been hoovering up fine dust particles as the filter gets clogged easily. A quick fix is to take the filter outside and bang it vigorously, or if you have time a cold rinse under the tap and leave it to dry is best.

I hope that is helpful!

Back to routine today. Took kids to school in the car then back in my chair eating & day time tv.

Workman coming tomorrow for a couple of days so have to clear out a bit. though will be just sticking stuff in baskets for dh & kids to carry up for me.

Elsa123 · 07/06/2010 09:45

Chin up nymph- at least you have online access I suppose and can go shopping....

nymphadora · 07/06/2010 10:02

Spent a bit too much time on ebay lately. V rarely win anything though as I'm too tight to pay much its fun tryingthough

Not bought any baby stuff yet and can't quite bring myself to.

sam12 · 07/06/2010 10:44

Hi just thought I would say hello as it is a while since I posted. Am 22 weeks today although that means only 18ish to get the house done . Had great fun yesterday tearing down a wall with a big hammer- though not sure it is the type of thing I should be doing!!
I cannot stop eating in fact as I type I am eating my lunch already because I am soooo hungry all the time- I am going to be huge.
Hope everyone is ok and good luck to those having scans today xx

nymphadora · 07/06/2010 11:32

sam I LOVE the demolition part of doing up. unfortunately we are on the other side and both of us are suffering lack of interest/time/energy in finishing off. Have a very good handyman who comes and does jobs and can always recommend others to help too.
We need to finish downstairs and then start the cellar but thats waiting til my house is sold.

Elsa123 · 07/06/2010 11:47

I too have the lazy bug when it comes to dealing with the house- so this weekend, must make concerted effort!

I haven't bought any baby stuff either Nymph and am thinking of making a token gesture of getting a MerinoKids swaddle as they look really comfy and easy.

shieldbug · 07/06/2010 12:15

elsa glad to hear everything is ok. You had us worried for a while there!

Floozie I have an upright dyson that has taken many knocks over the years but is still functioning well. I have very long, strong hair which usually clogs up most hoovers but the Dyson seems to be able to take it, although as others have said, it does lose suction as it fills up. I would recommend one.

No thunderstorms this weekend in our part of NI, but the weather is definitley cooling down. I managed to sunburn my feet on Saturday at the beach (d'oh!). I put suncream on, then went for a paddle and forgot to smear on some more. Stupid or what?

Good luck to all those with scans this week.

nunnie · 07/06/2010 12:23

Morning all, had my scan this morning. Renal Pelvis slightly over top marker on the left side. So have to go back at 32 weeks.
Bump had a willy.
They had new scanners fitted a couple of weeks ago and everything was so clear it was fab.

Anyway off to start my assignment. Have a lovely day

shieldbug · 07/06/2010 12:59

Congrats on your little boy nunnie! Was the issue with your kidney or bump's? If they don't want to see you again until 32 weeks, I assume it's nothing too serious? Hope all is well.

nymphadora · 07/06/2010 12:59

LOL at 'bump had a willy' congrats on your little boy nunnie

nunnie · 07/06/2010 13:15

It's little mans kidney. If still on the top end when I go back then he will be scanned after birth and given antibiotics when born.
Thank you secretly wanted a boy one of each flavour will be nice

shieldbug · 07/06/2010 13:27

I'm feeling altruistic towards a fellow student. If you are pg for the first time or have a single lo under 3 (I think that was right) then please do this survey that I found on another thread. Cheers!

DillyDora · 07/06/2010 13:27

Hi All,

Just marking my space. Thrilled that you're ok Elsa Hope scans are going ok, and that back to work is ok Sam. Sorry about the nausea Hermya I still get it sometimes and I yacked up at the airport coming back from Spain last week...class. Sorry about the MIL Tyson.

We had a downer yesterday. Finally saw the DSS first time at ours since mid-April, told them about the baby and they were well chuffed, then DH told their mother who was VILE about it and said 'O, it's a boy, it'll probably be autistic then' (because her boys are - though only mildly). How can anyone be so vile? (And so misinformed, the genetics consultant said we have a higher risk than other couples but it's still low less than 5% rather than 1% in the general population) So, we don't expect to be allowed to see the kids for a while as you might imagine....

People can be so mean.... I wouldn't mind but she and DH split up almost 11 years ago before she even knew she was pg and he tried to go back to her... but couldn't stick it!

piesey · 07/06/2010 13:37

Hi everyone

I see we have a new home which is good! Not been on much recently but all is well with me. I'm 20 weeks on Wednesday yay!

My scan is next week but I have a meeting with the consultant on Thursday just for a thyroid check up. Had to have a blood test last Thursday which ended up taking all morning even though I got there at 8.45! Don't ask why - just the bizzarre queueing system them seem to have there.

Congrats on all the scans and good luck to everyone having one soon.

Went to see some friends who have just had a baby (3 weeks ago) which was nice but also odd to see them with a baby! I had a cuddle and managed to send her of to sleep so I was quite chuffed.

The heat is not doing me any good at all and I'm stuggling a bit - thank goodness work is cool with air conditioning.

Hope everyone else is ok!

DillyDora · 07/06/2010 13:47

Yay Nunnie congrats on your little boy (and his willy, of course). Sorry about the dodgy kiddley, hope it resolves itself.
x

mamjo · 07/06/2010 14:26

Congrats nunnie on your little boy!!! and his willy!!

I had my scan this morning and got a trainee sonographer who was absolutely lovely but it took her a little longer than normal to do the scan and then the "real" sonographer came in and did it all again so that we were sure that everything had been done right which meant that I got a whole hour of watching my beautiful baby on the screen - it was amazing!!

We had decided not to find out the sex so told them this when they arrived and asked them not to ask me when doing the scan cos I wasn't sure I would be able to say no. she laughed and said she understood and then asked me twice more during the scan, it was really hard to stick to the plan. i am absoluely convinced that its a boy and DH is convinced that it is a girl - so one of us is going to be right.

anyway back to work!!

DillyDora · 07/06/2010 14:30

Congrats mamjo a whole hour! How lovely!

Elsa123 · 07/06/2010 14:32

I feel so excited for you nunnie and mamjo! Congrats and I'm sure the kidney will be fine nunnie.

Dilly- your DH's ex is just being a jealous ratbag. Anyway, its your child, not hers and it has 50% of your genes not hers so yah boo sucks to her...though I am sure your DSS's are delightful x x x

At my FMC scan they saw a single soft marker on a bit of heart muscle and said not to worry and the risk was not higher as it was not more than one marker. Has anyone else had anything similar?

DillyDora · 07/06/2010 14:36

Cheers Elsa
Sorry, don't know about that marker thing...hmmm...

Elsa123 · 07/06/2010 15:08

Just did an ill advised google but came up with some positive stuff, agreeing that single markers are not concerning and almost all resolve themselves.

"Golf balls appear as small white balls attached to a muscle in the heart, most commonly in the left lower chamber (ventricle). This may mean a baby has a heart defect or chromosomal abnormality, but they are common (about four per cent of babies have them (Pilu and Nicolaides 1999)). They are spotted more often in babies of slim mothers, whose scans are clearer." (I am slim)

mamjo · 07/06/2010 15:10

Thanks Dilly

I forgot to say that my scan pics are rubbish though because BB kept pulling his/her feet in front his/her face all the time. Cheeky chimp is just like mummy and hates cameras!

sorry to waffle on but I am still SOOOO excited!!

Elsa123 · 07/06/2010 15:20

Waffle away mamjo- thats what this is for! On my NHS scan the baby was hunched over, transverse face down asleep so the pic was rubbish too! On the FMC one the sonographer did a realy good job as the baby was doing fast yoga. So I know what you mean x x

DillyDora · 07/06/2010 15:27

I was like you after my 20w scan Mamjo just beside myself so enjoy! Lovely to see the LO isn't it? I was surprised by how chubby he looked, so round and snuggly. Can't wait to meet him in 'real life'!
