I googled when I got home too, it's a bad bad thing. I have read that single markers are not usually anything for concern. No more googling allowed, especially here
Hope your little bump is okay.
I keep telling myself there is nothing I can do about it now and worrying won't help.

Waffle away, I love waffle especially excited waffle it's the best

DillyDora · 07/06/2010 15:39

No! Googling is forbidden! Remember the state I ended up in over that rash?! Gosh! Let the medics figure it out. Also, all sorts of startling things can show up and then go again don't forget....

nunnie · 07/06/2010 15:55

Exactly Dilly, I try to only read the medical journals, but then they can be scary as I don't know what all the words mean. I try to avoid the threads from sites I don't know, as I do find the only time people write on certain threads is with negative experiences, and then the reader is only seeing the negative.
I got the impression that my 32 week scan, is being made during a clinic time as the receptionist said he runs a clinic on a monday but it will be a BH when I am due scan and would ahve to come at 33 weeks not 32, I didn't know who he was, but presume he is a specialist of some kind. She did say there is an emergency clinc on the thursday before the BH, but she said I wasn't classed as an emergency so it wasn't necessary for me to come that day, which was nice to hear.

I am waffling now sorry.

DillyDora · 07/06/2010 16:03

Don't worry nunnie you're not waffling. The thing about medical journals is that the authors are trying to prove their point, not present a balanced p.o.v. - the study that scared me so much was a 'proper' study but on v small numbers and when I finally managed to get myself to really read every word I could see how ridiculous I was being. I read scientific papers for my job so should know what I'm doing but I still really freaked myself out. If it was an urgent/scary problem they would have you in urgently or be scanning every couple of weeks.

You're bound to feel freaked out now but hopefully that feeling will calm down over the next few days and you'll feel better. You could always ring your mw if the worry won't go away a bit in a few day's time (like, if it's keeping you awake at night)

shieldbug · 07/06/2010 16:05

mamjo congrats on the great scan. I am sooo jealous of you getting an hour's viewing time of lo though! Well done on remaining firm about not knowing the sex. I think if I had been given the option, I might have caved in, but the hospitals here in NI don't give the sex in case they are sued if they are wrong.

nunnie and elsa I think you can get your cues from the medical folk; if they don't think it is an emergency or anything to worry about, it's fine. They have to be so careful that they will be taking any precaution necessary ifywim.

dilly sorry to hear dh's ex is being rubbish. Sounds like your risks are pretty low anyway so don't worry. Love the sound of your chubby cuddly baby!

nunnie · 07/06/2010 16:09

I never looked at journals like that makes sense.

I don't think I am overally worried really, as if I had gone for my 20 week scan in 2 months when the guidelines change, then I would be none the wiser as 6mm is in the normal range then. The fact that the guidelines are changing is a good sign I am thinking.

Thank you for your kind words and advice DillyDora

DillyDora · 07/06/2010 16:12

Cheers shieldbug Didn't realise you were all the way in NI!

nunnie you've proved your own point, see! Don't worry about it, that's what we're here for!

xx

Just flicked through the pregnancy plight thread on discussion of the day and found the stretchmarks on the arse very funny- I'm sure I'll be laughin on the other side of my face in a few weeks time.....

The baby was kicking/prodding my cervix this morning. My, thats a sensitive muscle isn't it?! I kept jumping like I had a nervous twitch!

RooBear · 07/06/2010 16:26

think I may have felt first movements! like a belly rumble? (congrats mamjo)

DillyDora · 07/06/2010 16:28

Maybe roobear though I'm not much of an expert - most of what I feel seems to be gas hope so!

mamjo · 07/06/2010 16:46

Hi RooBear I would say that a belly rumble is a good description. Thats what I was feeling anyway. They have started to get a bit stronger and a bit more kick like now although not often enough for my liking!! (sure i will be taking that back by 36 weeks)

Hubby was laid with his head on my belly last night talking to LO and LO was kicking his head as if to say "get off" but unfortunately hubby couldn't feel it. I think we will be trying that exercise again tonight though

nunnie googling is a sure way to nuerosis! as everyone else says take your lead from the medical staff, they aren't panicking so neither should you. (i know this is all easier said than done, and if it were me I would have done exactly the same.)

DillyDora · 07/06/2010 17:21

Potentially daft question - is anyone staying at work till the 'last minute'? I need to write to work about when I want to go on maternity leave and I was going to say 38 weeks but am I totally mad? I have no idea when to say....!!

nymphadora · 07/06/2010 17:33

dilly depends on what you do & if you have much commute. I've stopped at 37 & 32(school hols) before. This time I'm on leave from 30 ish then mat leave from 38

DillyDora · 07/06/2010 17:35

Cheers Nymph...hmm...1 hr commute each way but then pretty desk based until teaching begins which wouldn't be till after week 38 so with some wfh days I could string it out. I have 5 days leave left which I could ask to carry over and take an extra week.

Hmm...I can see I'll have to sit down v slowly and work this out on paper, I'm not great at this stuff.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 07/06/2010 17:54

dilly, I'd go at 36 or 37 weeks. At least you'll be sure of a couple of weeks rest if baby turns up a wee bit early.

Congrats on your bump's willy nunnie! That made me laugh. Hope all is well with his kidney.

Elsa, DS3 had a soft marker at the 20 week scan (also at FMC). It was in his brain - a chorionic plexus cyst. Sonographer was great and spent so much time looking at other parts of anatomy to double and triple check for any other markers. There were none. Apparently CPCs seen alone are now considered nothing to worry about - possibly the same with other soft markers. Of course I googled and scared myself shitless but all was fine.

Right, off for a bath to see if this horrendous back pain will calm down.

DillyDora · 07/06/2010 17:56

Cheers ILGH sorry about the bad back. Do you do pilates/yoga type things? They are genius for backs. Hope it gets better.

mamjo · 07/06/2010 18:26

Hi dilly I am planning to start my maternity at 38 weeks but to take 2 weeks annual leave before that so I can leave work at 36 weeks.

BackAgain · 07/06/2010 19:06

Dilly I am leaving work as early as I can at 28 weeks - One week will be holiday and then maternity. Nothing to do with the actual pregnancy - more about being around in the summer to spend time with DD before she starts school. I will be made redundant while I am on maternity leave and plan to take 2 years out so don't have the incentive of spending more time with lo after the birth.

With my first one I left work at 33 weeks - mostly because we were moving house (about 150 miles away) and it wouldn't have been practical to commute. I did find the last few weeks frustrating mostly because there was so much to do in the new house and I couldn't do a great deal. But I was pleased I wasn't at work due to the heat and general tiredness.

nymphadora · 07/06/2010 19:27

backagsin I'm getting frustrated not being able to do much at home. We have loads of stuff to go in the skip & I can't lift it

am exhausted tonight, just waiting for brownies to finish then bed

sam12 · 07/06/2010 19:58

Dilly I am planning on working up till 38 weeks as well- I too have no idea if this is practical but with the six weeks hols before am figuring I'll only have a couple of weeks back so should be pretty rested beforehand.

nunnie · 07/06/2010 20:10

Dilly I don't work (haven't gone back after dd yet) but I am doing a degree from home, and will be sitting my final exam when I will be 38+6 so I will start my relaxing wind down at 39 weeks

BackAgain · 07/06/2010 20:13

Nymph I sympathise and hope they get your medication sorted so you feel better. I have been managing OK so far (20 weeks) but had to ask DD to get out of the pushchair and walk for a bit today as the pushing was wearing me out. I am trying to avoid lifting but sometimes it is not possible e.g. getting DD into car seat.

Hope you get a good night's rest

nymphadora · 07/06/2010 20:23

At least my two are old enough to help, when I had dd2 dd1 was 21 m so quite hard work.

In bed and feeling bit more alive ( bit) baby is hyper again. Think they is a correlation between my lack of energy & baby being lively. Dd2 all over again. >>
