Hello hello hello hello!!!

Haven't been here in a while (was moving house - hurrah! Space at last! It's brill!)

Hope all are well.

Well that's me at 25 weeks now (I think) and absolutely MASSIVE. I'm not kidding. I have the midwie on Tuesday and I just know she is going to do a double take when she reads my notes and sees how ar along I actually am.

I'm so uncomortable already - I can't believe how long there is to go!! My back is killing me! On a plus side though, the consultant is very very keen for me to have an elective c-section, which I must say after last time is a huge relief!!
I know it's by no means the easy option, but after last time and emcs, the thought of having a plan is quite nice. Especially when I just know that this little lad is going to be, probably, a bit bigger than his big brother (who was a healthy 10lb 9oz at birth).

However, many jollities to get through before then, including two huge weddings, a hen night from hell and someone's leaving 'do.

ERK!!

rollerbaby · 25/07/2010 19:37

Hellooooooo

haven't swung by in ages...far too busy getting really MASSIVE!! 26 weeks today and I reckon I look more like 36 weeks. I am like the back end of a bus.

In a fair bit of discomfort under bump and groin area at the front with mild spd caused by my overexertions... duh. Is anyone else suffering with this? Any tips?

Relieved the heat has settled down a bit and sleeping is easier.

Hope everyone is feeling good... can't believe we've no more scans now. Unless we have a 4d one... but v v £££.

Wallace · 26/07/2010 09:43

Hello all

I feel huge now too. I didn't really have much of a bump at 20 weeks but I am big now at 23 weeks (tomorrow)

sancerre - we share the same due date

Re cloth nappies - I used them for ds2 and it is really handy if you have a shower that reaches over hte toilet so you can rinse off the poo!

Pidgin · 26/07/2010 11:13

Hello all, hope you've had good weekends - I was away for a couple of days so just catching up on the thread. To those with leaky nipples, this must be a good sign for breastfeeding, no? I am quite keen for mine to produce something (though not all over my top, preferably...).

I also feel huge - and is anyone else getting back ache (threelittleducks I feel your pain!)? I'm trying to avoid it but standing or sitting for long periods is a killer.

hmmSleep · 26/07/2010 12:00

honeymoo, tiany, Pidgin and threelittleducks, I'm there sharing in the back pain, and just below my bump, and where my right leg meets my groin. I'm blaming it on the fact I haven't exercised since having ds so my body is just a wreck! I'm sure I could hardly even tell I was pregnant at this stage in previous pregnancies.

Dd finished preschool on Friday, and all the toddler groups etc have finished for the summer, not looking forward to finding stuff to entertain (free of charge) dcs for the next 6 weeks. Have already done painting, playing out, giant jigsaw, making cakes and watching cbeebies and it's only midday. Lets hope the weather improves!

Sabie · 26/07/2010 16:00

Rinnyx; those trousers look great, as do you in them. Sadly, no blooming very convenient to me.

Sancerre; impressive nappy researching! I was kind of hoping for a 'no-messing-about-with-the-poo' option, other than disposables but I think, if you don't go the disposable route then there is no choice but to do some rinsing...luvly! Still there are some very cute nappy covers. What did you decide to go with in the end?

Sympathy to those with back pain, I'm ok at the mo but do feel heavier by the day.

Had a panic today as i realised I had to give my 15 weeks notice for maternity leave in the next two weeks and I hadn't got my MATB1 form - I'm sure you are all more organised than me but just in case you are not....take this as a reminder!

Have also been researching nurseries this morning (as someone told me you had to get register interest very early); there are so few in the Muswell Hill area of London! Perhaps I need to start one...???

sancerrre · 26/07/2010 19:08

Thanks for the shower tip wallace, that sounds like a good plan. Have added 'extra long shower hose' to my shopping list! Good to know we share an EDD - though I'm expecting mine to be late, being my first, especially if it takes after DP, who's late for everything!

sabie I've gone for the bambinex ones but it's the wraps that have become a bit of an obsession, have ordered several different kinds, babykind website has a good variety.

Rinnyx · 26/07/2010 20:32

OMG the office/bedroom looks like a bomb has hit it
The in-laws took the terrapins yersterday so we could make a start on the room and finally move the boxed up cotbed in the room but the mess is driving me mad already, the sooner we get it painted and the new carpet fited the sooner I can get things looking tidy again.
Thankfully DD is off to my mums for 2 weeks tomorrow so we can move all the rubbish in her room while we paint and stuff....haha can you tell this mess is stressing me out

rollerbaby · 26/07/2010 21:04

I haven't got my MATB1 form yet either and i'm 26 weeks and off in 8 weeks! Whats the rules, do you know Sabie??

smokeybacon · 27/07/2010 10:28

Bookmarking, as haven't been on for a while.

sabie are you sure its 15 weeks notice you need to give? I hope not as I plan on finishing work in about 7 or 8 weeks when I'm 30 weeks and haven't told work yet( they obviously know I am pg tho so it won't be a huge surprise to them!) I thought it was 4 weeks notice you had to give. I've not had my MATB1 yet and not seeing mw till 28 weeks now although back at hospital in 2 weeks for another scan.

Pidgin · 27/07/2010 10:52

Re: giving notice, as far as I know, you do have to give them notice of when you intend to leave 15 weeks before your due date (you can then change this date, provided you give 4 weeks notice). That's the policy with my workplace anyway - which means you need to hand in your MatB1 by around week 25. I got mine straight from the GP's surgery (just called to arrange to pick it up), not from the MW/ hospital.

Sabie you would think there'd be loads of nurseries in Muswell Hill! Not that many near us either.

Rinny I know how you feel about mess and needing to organise - I have set aside this weekend for trying to clear stuff from our spare room - we'll see how that goes!

smokeybacon · 27/07/2010 10:56

Oh dear better let them know I want to finish then!! I'll call the surgery to get the MATB1. You'd think I would know all this as its pg #3!

smokeybacon · 27/07/2010 11:08

Just checked the directgov website. here

You have to tell them by the 15th week of your pg that you are pg and your EDD and the date you intend to start your ML, then you can change that date with 8 weeks notice.

Fortunately my work are fairly flexible but perhaps I ought to put something in writing to them just to cross the t's.

CardiCorgi · 28/07/2010 13:09

Hello, another one here who is trying to clear the future nursery of clutter. We've also ordered the pram, complete with snow wheels; I think that this has been DH's favourite part so far.

This morning was the glucose tolerance test. Is this done in the UK as a standard test? I'm glad to say that my blood sugar was all fine, so that's one less thing to worry about. I also had to lie down for 20 minutes with a couple of detectors strapped to my tummy to check the heart beat and movements and then got to have a peek at the baby on the ultrasound.

How are the babies wriggling? Mine seems to have a routine of 5am aerobics and another big session mid-afternoon when I'm at my desk.

Rinnyx · 28/07/2010 15:23

Hey Pidgin and CardiCorgi glad I'm not the only one battling the dreaded baby room.
I'm just taking a rest after putting the first coat of paint on 2 and half walls in the office/come bedroom (I need DP to move the bookcases when he gets home)
Hopefully getting the new carpet fitted Monday or Tuesday, the inlaws have been lovely and said they would pay for the bedroom and stairs carpet and the fitting
Just need to get ALL painting done before then

Not sure if I should put the cotbed up when the room is done then, to soon/bad luck? what do you ladies think? x

Vix7 · 28/07/2010 16:40

Hey Rinnyx, Pidgin and CardiCorgi

at least you have a ROOM to fuss over! we're in a 1 bedder and i'm trying to figure out how to move our bed and other furniture around to fit a moses basket/cot!

is it a superstition thing not to put the cot up?

am STILL debating on the pram. was set on the bugaboo bee+, but then i read about the babystyle oyster and the Hauck malibu in a preggy mag. and now i don't know anymore!

bub is an active one. wakes up every 4h or so and starts kicking around. still find it amusing to lie back and watch the tummy jiggle and wiggle as the bub goes all dutchfootballer inside.

shoppingstar · 28/07/2010 17:17

Vix7 - can you go and try different prams anywhere (maybe while holding a heavy bag/toddler in one arm and trying a one-handed limitation!) ?

I had been eyeing up a Stokke xplory on the internet, reading reviews and feeling quite pleased with myself until I tried taking it apart, folding it and putting the base in the boot . . . Definitely looking for something lighter and smaller now.

Would love to see anyones photos of baby rooms when they are done. We had not long decorated the spare room so have decided not to redo with child friendly decor - so I could enjoy all of your decor instead!

Rinnyx · 28/07/2010 18:01

Sorry to hear that Vix7 I was in the same situation when I had DD

My mum is the superstitious one, she does not believe in having any baby stuff in the house until its born so shes going abit nuts over the fact that we have alot of stuff sitting in our house right now thats also why I am unsure if I should wait til nearer my EDD to put up the codbed and crib

Hey shoppingstar I'll take some photos when its done, already got a photo of the current mess haha

Sabie · 28/07/2010 21:17

I know 15 weeks is written into a lot of contracts/policies; I don't know if it's a RULE everywhere?! Just meant to remind people to check their policies. I'm so sorry if I caused widespread panic.....

I did get my MAT B1 today.

Sabie · 28/07/2010 21:53

Have a decorated room (from before knowing I was pg!), a dresser with changing top & cotbed arriving Friday and am going to get a fitted Ikea adult wardrobe with lots of shelves. (I just don't get nursery wardrobes; they are so teeny and short, why not just get a normal one; though they do look cute and I can see the attraction of the 'furniture sets'.)

SIL has given us buggy with car seat, so that saves some pennies. I have never know a child who is not given toys and clothes as pressies so am not going to go mad on purchasing these.

Am still grappling with the best nappy system to use; want washables for the longer term but am likely to use disposables for first week or so. (Anyone know how long babies are in 'newborn' nappies?).

Still unsure whether to use Moses for first 3 months as it can easily be moved around house and taken in car for visiting. Realise I have no idea how to make a basket/bed for a baby! (No pillows, I am aware of!) I also have no idea how to properly dress a newborn but am reading up fast....!

What else to think about....????

I know the superstitious thing is to avoid all this but I just think I'd go into a complete breakdown if I left it all to the last minute.

Kicking pattern here is 5 a.m (right at my bladder), about 11 a.m., 3pmish, 7.30 pm and then goes nuts when I go to bed at 11pm. Fun isn't it!

hmmSleep · 28/07/2010 22:37

Not planning on decorating the nursery here, figured baby will be in with us for 6 months anyway. After that my other 2 dcs who are old enough to appreciate a specially decorated room should probably get theirs done first (picturing poor ds's bedroom which still has the awful sponged paint effect from when we moved in ). Or maybe I'll decorate our bedroom instead .

Off out to buy the gaviscon tomorrow, if I eat after 6pm it seems to just sit there making lying down to sleep very uncomfortable. After a quick start my bump has really slowed down it's expansion of late as well.

Vix7, we were in a 2 bed flat when ds was born, didn't want to put him in with dd until he was sleeping through a bit better, so he was plonked in our ensuite bathroom until he was 8 months. Thankfully have since moved to a bigger house, but I'll still be stepping over the moses basket to get to the loo!

Baby is pretty still during the day, but come 10pm really starts wriggling, especially if I eat chocolate (which let's face it I'm doing every night). Have had a few nasty kicks to the kidneys though, ouch!

hmmSleep · 28/07/2010 22:44

Sabie, to begin with you just need a fitted sheet over mattress, then you wrap the baby in a blanket nice and securely and lay it in cot/basket. When big enough I switched to gro-bags, so much easier and more practical than messing around with blankets. Means they don't kick covers off, and you can lift them out to feed without them getting too awake and cold. I also found my dcs started to associate getting into their gro-bags with bedtime, which made putting them down at night easier.

OP posts:
dairymum · 29/07/2010 11:24

totally agree about gro-bags. I found these an absolute god send, especially if you get the ones with a 2 way zip that can be used in car seats. these are great if out visiting in the evenings and baby falls asleep on way home. according to www.gro.co.uk the minimum weight to use a baby sleeping bag is 8lb 8oz. This site also tells you the amount of clothing baby will need under various togs in different temps. There are lots of sleeping bags on the market at various prices, but not all will give a tog rating.

This baby seems to be active for most of the day, especially late evening. Lots of painful kicks to bladder and kidneys.

I'm desperate to get babys room decorated but don't feel up to doing it myself. Too much exertion makes bump Really heavy and painful right at bottom of bump. Even pushing trolley round tesco leaves me very uncomfortable. Hoping this is not start of SPD.

I have just ordered a new buggy from boots, dd,s buggy was pink so better not use that! I've ordered a safety 1st Teknika from boots, only£42!!!

Also have a 3 wheeler from dd1, now 7 years old, not in best condition but better for our rough farm track. Too big and heavy to keep in back of car all the time.

I am hoping to leave moses basket in mums loft for another few weeks, and need to get a new cot mattress. I also need to find a smallish chest of drawers, already a fitted wardrobe in room

Mibby · 29/07/2010 16:10

Midwife this morning, all went well. Nice strong heartbeat Got to go back at 28 weeks for the next check up

Got my MAT B1 and the HIPS stuff too

Have been visiting a friend with a 5mo baby too so got some nappy practice

Rinnyx · 29/07/2010 21:41

Quite pleased with myself, just finished painting the spare room all by myself just need to do the skirting once DP pulls his finger out and rips up the old carpet then getting the carpet for the room and stairs fitted Tuesday morning, so excited
Tho all this up and down the ladder has really kicked off that trapped nerve on my lower right side and not seeing my midwife til 17th for 28week app
