Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

LCR i have a lambskin to go in the buggy. It was my friend's and i am buying it off her. Apparently it helps keep baby cool in summer, warm in winter. Worth it i think.

Is Aussie moving house? Or have i got her confused with someone else?

soontobefatnat · 30/06/2010 16:37

Hmm - something went funny there...

Apologies if I end up reposting, but Frugi have got a 70% off sale on for the next few days!

Alicetheinvisible · 30/06/2010 17:19

Having a bit of a wobble this evening.

There are 5 weeks 5days until this baby is due. My house is in chaos. I am tired and achy. We need to have a huge clear out and rearrange. DH is not going to be able to have any time off before baby is here, and only gets very short weekends (basically does calls on both days). I don't know where this baby is going to go. And i have to somehow get it out and i am not sure quite how

cakeywakey · 30/06/2010 17:37

Afternoon ladies - I may have a moving date! Am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be confirmed tomorrow. If it is, I'll be 36 weeks when we move My DD arrived at 37 weeks so could be cutting it a bit fine.

Alice don't panic. All will be well. Babies are dinky and don't take up much room at first. Get a few friends round to help you start sorting - they'll help you be more ruthless than you would otherwise be, and can do heavy lifting/sorting for you. And don't look at everything you have to do as a whole, break it down into manageable chunks. Slowly but surely wins the race.

As for getting the baby out, again, all will be well. Babies are meant to come out and come out they will, aided and abetted by people who do it everyday of the week. You'll be fine

Just need to have a quick moan, it's flipping boiling here today and I can't open my front room windows because of the smell of rotting fish coming from next door's bin. It's rank and the bin men don't come until Friday. Boak!

LilyPad72 · 30/06/2010 18:59

Hello all.

Having finally succeeded in setting up a paypal account, have just sent a donation for Belle - hope not too late?

Have just been told be the GP my BP is high-ish - 140/60. But - it's strange - whenever the midwife or the hospital take it - it's fine, down at 120/60 - but the 2 times she's taken it, it's high. Maybe it's her machine...

PLEASE can this heat go away? I remember when I used to work in a kennels as a saturday job as a kid - we used to keep the dog food in those huge old Beejams chest freezers, and when it was hot we used to climb in them and just sit there.... that would be heaven... If I went back there now - 20 year later - do you think they'd let me cozy up with the dog food again?

Question for all those mums who've done this before - water births... are they as good as everyone says? Are there any down sides?

cazzybabs · 30/06/2010 20:15

Lillypad - high blood pressure - to me that is positively low!

I saw the docotor today and I some drugs to hopefully bring mine down to below 160/90

Went to see my friend today and she has 9 golden retriever puppies - so sweet!

LizzieA · 30/06/2010 20:38

My fantasy:

After letting out a delicate ladylike sneeze our healthy, happy baby will pop out smelling of baby powder and fully dressed in a brilliant white sleep suit. DP will bring me mussels in white wine sauce with crusty bread for dipping followed by a rare (almost blue) steak with home made chunky chips. Rose Champagne will be served and I'll finish with a bellini rather than dessert. I will then pop to the loo to find that all of my lady bits are exactly as they were pre pregnancy and breast feeding has actually given me a natural breast lift. When we get home, it becomes apparent that I am a completely natural mother and bubs sleeps until woken by the alarm clock each morning. On our first morning home I receive a letter from work telling me that my maternity leave has been extended to 12 months on full pay and requesting that I return on part-time hours for full time pay.

What do you reckon? I didn't want to set my sights too high

cakeywakey · 30/06/2010 21:13

My fantasy is to be able to emit a delicate ladylike sneeze without having to worry about stress incontinence

Am now past the point of caring when the nice young men at Sainsbury's checkout pack my Tena Lady liners for me. It was never this bad with DD1!

driedapricots · 30/06/2010 21:24

evening all
loving the post birth fantasies too..LOL LizzieA
well it was my last day at work today, hurrah, and yesterday I got a date for my c-sect - another hurrah. so this baby is now going to be arriving on 2nd Aug..that is unless it decides on an early appearance (which'll be just my luck!)
DH really p'ing me off at mo..long story, i posted on the AIBU thread but the general consensus was that i was (dont you just love it when female solidarity lets you down!!)

starshaker · 30/06/2010 21:59

Hey all. Just thought id pop in and say im about to head to the hospital to see if things are kicking off or if its a false alarm. Will keep facebook updated when i know anything

cazzybabs · 30/06/2010 22:03

My birth fantasy is that I don't have another cs; don't have monitoring that sticks me to a bed, no tearing, my blood pressure drops straight after birth and that I can go homw straight after birth

ohh and if I coud not bleed to much post birth that would be great

LittleMissSnowShine · 30/06/2010 22:15

Alice - I have 8 weeks to go but in a similar situation! We were doing great on the organisation/DIY front but me and OH are both drowning in work (his is over time and mine is trying to wrap things up before maternity leave starts) and trying to catch up with friends for what might be the last time for foreseeable future!! So house has kind of stalled - cot needs assembled, nursing chair put together, various bits of general DIY all need attended to. But as long as you have a car seat, a few baby grows, a changing mat and a basket for LO to sleep in I think that's the main bits covered and anything that you don't get sorted before the baby arrives can be dealt with even after it's here. I hope. Argh!!!

starshaker - fingers crossed, good luck! Will be checking back tomorrow to see if there's been any updates during the night - exciting!!

All these post-birth, Cath Kidston, idyllic fantasies actually inspired me to make some lovely tea bread tonight. Ok I did it in bare feet and a denim mini skirt instead of a vintage dress and a floral apron but it smells lush! Can't wait to eat some tomorrow - think I'll bring it with some apricot jam round to have a cup of tea with my mum and sis tomorrow morning so they can marvel at my domestic goddess skills

soontobefatnat · 30/06/2010 22:16

Wow Star - good luck and fingers crossed!

ElusiveMoose · 30/06/2010 22:18

Oooh, Star, how exciting!!! Do keep us posted when you can!

My birth fantasy is that this time, both baby and placenta will exit my body without having to be manually dragged out .

ElusiveMoose · 30/06/2010 22:20

Oh, and guess what - somehow I still didn't manage to get round to packing my hospital bag today. But I'll DEFINITELY do it tomorrow .

starshaker · 30/06/2010 22:22

Join the club. That was my plan today lol. Wish i had done it now. Just gonna turn up with pjs in the hope i dont actually need anything and will get to come home tonight

neenz · 30/06/2010 22:32

Good luck Star. Hope all goes well if it is labour!

How exciting Apricots! Aug 2

MrsZac, I didn't get into the first half (birth stories part) of Ina May. It was a bit repetitive. The second half is better. Just read the section on Sphincter Law if nothing else! It goes well with the hypnobirthing philosophy.

BTW I didn't pay for hypnobirthing classes, I just bought the Marie Mongan book for about a tenner . Just in case anyone was interested in it but didn't want to fork out hundreds. Reading the book gives you a good idea of what it's all about. Classes are great too but expensive.

soontobefatnat · 30/06/2010 22:38

Neez - totally agree about the Ina May book. Birth stories faaar out, man, but the second half of the book had some pretty useful stuff in it (Sphincter Law, etc).

weehector · 01/07/2010 01:04

starshaker ooh, good luck! Will keep my fingers crossed that it's a false alarm & you get home to your own bed tonight. But those babies sound big & you'd never go to 40 weeks anyway so who knows...how exciting! cherry you're not off the hook either - my money is still on you to go first (I say first with a heavy heart for obvious reasons..hope caz is doing ok).

My money is also on Aussie being mired in handover/project end hell in her last few weeks at work > her lack of chat. Not long for her now either...

alice hope wobble is passing. cakey speaks wise words re breaking tasks down into chunks. Doing a list, prioritising it, then tackling the one that's critical/worrying me most usually makes me feel better. Oh, and giving myself permission not to be perfect works wonders - how many jobs on your to do list are absolutely essential pre-baby? Glossing skirting boards in a few rooms is still on my list but realistically I'm too weebly to manage them, DH's free time could be spent making the most of our last few weeks alone together & Rome won't fall if they don't get done...not putting pressure on myself actually means there's more chance of me attempting them when/if the nesting energy kicks in!

Did you hear that? That was the sound of my weight breaking the sonic boom barrier of the expected pregnancy weight gain limit I'd agreed with myself or it might have been a small involuntary scream when I stood on the scales tonight. I've had it with the homemade cakes just as soon as I'm done with the strawberries & cream watching the tennis & I've finished the Belgian chocs my ILs brought back from Bruges.

And I too promise that the hospital bag will be done tomorrow. It's getting too close for comfort now. The midwife was a bit horrified that I hadn't yesterday and I too have period like
twinges and a few pains. Sure it's just the baby growing or getting into position but I'm not quite so
ready to dismiss them as such anymore.

Hoping but not overly hopeful that I might get some sleep before daybreak tonight. Sleep tight, will do the overnight shift sending postive vibes to star.

starshaker · 01/07/2010 01:53

Well im home. They did this test that i have never heard of before to see whether labour is likely and it looks like it wont be happening for a wee while yet. They think i over did it today and that because everything is stretching so much its giving pains that are like contractions but they actually arent. So just about to head to my bed and try and get some sleep now. Oh and emily is still breech and they recon that there is little or no chance she will have room to turn now.

cazzybabs · 01/07/2010 06:30

I never pack my bag until I am at last 40 weeks....TBH all you really need is a toothbrush and a pint mug (I always get really really thirsty breastfeeding)...the hosptial ha everything else to keep you ticking over. Labour is going to take some time and even afterwards you can always send dh home or to the shops.

bouncingblueberries · 01/07/2010 08:03

So with you girls on the Ina May book - bought it on your recommendation neenz and found it really interesting. A lot of the stuff I'd read about already (Lamaze book etc reference Ina May a LOT) but the Sphincter Law made so much sense. Feel much better prepared mentally this time round to deal with labour and like Ina May, I'm now talking in terms of surges or rushes in my head

Hospital bags - come on you lot! Get a wriggle on! cazzy my hospital provides zilch, you're lucky to even get a maternity pad, so rocking up with just a toothbrush isn't really an option for me. I like to have a few home comforts/luxuries with me to make the whole experience a bit more bearable

Feeling a bit more awake today, which is good. Came over all domestic goddess like last night and plundered our allotment for some freshly grown produce to cook dinner. We had new potatoes (plot to plate in under 30 minutes! woo hoo), peas and a beetroot, red onion and goats cheese tart. It was delish and I've got the leftovers waiting in the fridge for lunch.

star hope those growing pains calm down a bit.

hector it's fine, we'll soon be back into our vintage tea dresses, skipping merrily down the lane to collect blackberries...us Cath Kidston types end up skinnier than we were pre-pregnancy doncha know?

What has everyone got planned for today then? (apart from PACKING YOUR HOSPITAL BAGS!) [yes, elusive, I'm looking a you...]

Alicetheinvisible · 01/07/2010 08:06

Morning

Star glad things are still ok, hang on for another couple of weeks!

WeeHector i think i have it in my head that if i am struggling to get things done with only one child about, there is no chance of anything getting done with 2!

Cazzy i will be asking you lots of advice wrt multiple children

Hospital bag - i packed a staying overnight bag after having to spend a couple of nights in. I only added extra bits for labour/post birth because wwe went away the other weekend and i wanted to make sure i had everything i needed as i was away from home.

I still haven't packed baby stuff (still needs washing and some is still in the loft!)

Feeling brighter today. DH and i got some bigger housework jobs done last night, and i slept better, so not feeling like i am drowning today

Have a good day ladies

thedogwalker · 01/07/2010 09:29

Hello

I am having a good day today, feeling much better than the other day, when I was angry with my DH for doing nowt. Must admit, that I didn't do any housework or clean up after DH and so when he got home, he finally realised just exactly how much I do do everyday. So on Tuesday and last night he has been busying himself as well. Nursery completely finished, garden and weeds all done and he is generally now tidying up after himself and all without any arguing. I am one happy cookie .

apricots welcome to maternity leave. You probably won't rest as much as you plan, as we women can always find something to do, but it all beats going to work. Enjoy, before the 2nd of august.

Star Hope your pains subside.

My hospital bag is packed, just need to add bottled water and energy drinks, which are cooling in the fridge. Haven't packed any snacks yet, but DH can grab them after we get to the hospital.

Well I'm 33+4 and I'm now feeling really heavy, he seems to have moved into a position to cause maximum heaviness effect!!! Plus I feel like I'm saddle sore, cannot describe it any other way, and no I've not been riding any bikes lately, so don't know why I feel sore there, but it is bearable just makes me waddle more, nice....

Well I hope everyone is having a good day and coping with this incessant hot weather.

mrsZaC · 01/07/2010 09:39

Morning ladies!

hope all you ladies approaching b-day are packing your bags this morning

Almost finished the birth stories section of Ina May's book so nearly at the goodstuff! I'm actually quite interested in some of the stories however I do feel they are a little dated and hippyish at times!

neez I do agree the hypnobirthing was expensive, however I justified it as most was covered by the HIP grant. I found it really useful having someone there to guide you through the techniques and ask questions, and really just have a point of contact, is really reassuring. I think DH has benefited most from it, as he's rubbish at picking up the book and still hasn't read past the first 20 pages so at least through chatting to the hypnobirthing lady he has a good idea of what it's all about and how to help without reading the book. I find the methods will really help DH feel more involved in the labour, and it seems to have made him more comfortable with the whole thing (he's pretty squemish!).

insanely busy day yesterday, super busy at work running about after people then my PT session then a pamper event at our local Aveda salon (which I won lots of goodies - yippee) followed by 2 for 1 pizza at pizza express - yum!

got my bargain frugi ducky bibs 3 for £6 odd each so pretty & cheap to boot! keep and eye out because I think they might reduce their sale prices further on Friday after 2pm (in the small print).

star glad your back home safe, I'm with the girls in betting that you won't go to 40 wks but they should probably be cooking a little longer just to be safe

berries so jealous of your allotment veg! very impressed, dying to grow some of my own, maybe when we EVENTUALLY sell the flats and get a house. Speaking of which we are stuck in a bit of a rut with selling up our flats, idea was supposed to be sold by now and have bought a house - very wishful thinking! My flat usually has tenants in but they moved out in April and we haven't had anyone in since managing on a payment holiday from the mortgage, that ends this month and we can only really afford to make two more payments, so I think we're going to have to get tenants in again and just stay where we are for 6 months and pick it back up again then. So frustraiting as we've had lots of viewings and some close calls, but still not sold So finally I think I'll have to give up when I finish work and turn the 2nd bedroom into a nursery, it will be good to get it ready for baby but a bit sad that we're not getting ready for baby in a house, never mind, can't have it all!

anyways I'll stop yabbing, hope your all having lovely days!
