bouncingblueberries · 30/06/2010 09:19

Crikey! And chulita!

ElusiveMoose · 30/06/2010 09:29

Aarrrgghh, stop talking about babies arriving, you lot!! I'm definitely going through a head-in-the-sand couple of days at the moment . Still, you've at least prompted me to move PACK HOSPITAL BAG YOU SILLY WITCH to the top of my to-do list. It will be done today, I promise.

LittleMissSnowShine · 30/06/2010 09:36

I'd be happy if my transverse baby would just shake a leg and get him or herself turned around - don't want them to decide to arrive early and need an emergency c-section!!

bouncingblueberries really feel like baking something today as well which is funny because although i usually love cooking/baking i've done bugger all in the last few months, except when we've had people round!!

Cherrypie At least your post-birth picnic sounds practical!! There's a drive thru mcdonalds opposite hospital i'm going to so will prob either send DH over for some guilty pleasures or demand mum and sister bring me some sandwiches, fruit and those Lindor chocolates sound like a bloody good idea as well! Wonder can we put our post-labour recovery meals into our birth plans?? ;) You'd better look into that cos it seems like your LO is going to be arriving sooner rather than later!!!

Dibbydab · 30/06/2010 10:00

Morning ladies, loving all the post baby fantasies, really made me giggle!

Mine - Fantastic homebirth lasting not more than 3 hours (and she did it all with breathing exercises, don't you know?) After I have bathed, baby will be brought to me in beautiful white sleep suit wrapped in the softest cashmere blanket. I will then be propped up in bed surrounded by my crisp, freshly laundered White Company bed linen. DH will be in complete awe of me and regard me as goddess for the rest of our lives for providing him with such a wonderous gift. I will breastfeed with no problems and wonder what all the fuss was about. I will write out my thank you cards within a couple of days of the birth, greeting visitors with home made cakes which I have had the foresight to make and freeze.

I will be pushing the baby around the park in my Cath Kidstonesque tea dress with a jaunty corsage attached to the lapel, and fab 1940's heels. All will admire my rosy cheeked cherub, having never seen such a stunning looking child - old ladies will have to sit down on a park bench to catch their breath after seeing said baby, such is the beauty it radiates...

Bump, OK, I'm back in reality...off to hang out the washing and sort out car tax.

Cherry keep us up to date with any progress - who's going to update the lists if you go AWOL?

pamplem0usse · 30/06/2010 10:13

Sooooo pack your hospital bags ladies; lady at my NCT class just gave birth at 36 weeks! I'm now attempting to manicly order the rest of the stuff that I need online. Had a VERY embarassing shopping trip on Monday on my lunch break when a lady in Mamas and Papas offered to give me her fan because I was sweating so much. Think I'll never be able to show my face again in there! Decided that was definitely my last 'real' shopping trip till post-baby.....
Also desperately need to order new carpet for the babe's room now we've decided to do it but just so tired. Congrats on the new bathroom alice and the loft extension being underway elusive.....
Off to do some work and then will post about the rose/ card/ pot / charity fund for Caz. Has anyone heard how she's doing? xxx

Alicetheinvisible · 30/06/2010 10:15

Did someone on here link to a site that helped you figure out which way your baby is lying? Or did i imagine it? If so can i have the link please?

I have the MW next week, but really don't trust her. Out of the 4people i know who had her, 2 had breech babies that she failed to diagnose, one had severe pre-eclampsia that MW ignored and refused to see friend, and one thought she was wonderful!

Not much confidence in her

LittleMissSnowShine · 30/06/2010 10:24

Was it this website? www.spinningbabies.com/baby-positions/belly-mapping

I've been trying to use their technique to figure out if baby is any closer to moving It's not!!

Good luck with MW, alice. I have an appt on Monday and my MW is a bit the same - last two appointments she's been away tho and the MW who was filling in for her was great so going to be especially crap to go back to the sour one!!

Alicetheinvisible · 30/06/2010 10:39

Thanks LittleMiss seems to have answered some questions.

My Midwife is nice just doesn't seem quite as competetant as i would like. Especially as i am hoping for a VBAC. Seems pointless going through labour only to need another emcs, if i could/should have been booked in for an elcs iyswim?

ElusiveMoose · 30/06/2010 10:51

Pample, now you're just trying to scare me!! Though actually.... I just went to the loo, and noticed when I sat down that my bump was really squashing down on the tops of my thighs, which it definitely hasn't before. So either I've grown a lot overnight, or my MW is totally right and the baby's seriously beginning to drop . So yes, I will DEFINITELY pack my bag at lunchtime.

Alice, your MW sounds a bit crap, frankly - poor you. Any chance you can get a second opinion (any hospital appts scheduled before the birth)? If not, then definitely get them to have a proper feel around as soon as you go into labour. I feel very lucky that my MW is such a total star (she felt my bump for ages yesterday because she knew I'd been breech for quite a while and she wanted to be 100% sure that the baby was head down). But the time I'll really want her is in labour - when I've probably got about a 1 in 40 chance of her actually being on duty .

Quick question - what have you all packed as snacks for labour/post-birth? I've got some dried apricots and some Tracker bars (trying to convince myself that these are actually healthy ), but wondered if anyone else had good suggestions?

bouncingblueberries · 30/06/2010 11:03

Oh, I need some healthy snack suggestions too! I didn't feel much like eating last time but poor dh will fade away to nothing if I don't put some snacks in for him. Trouble is, being a runner, he tends to stick to homemade super healthy flapjacks - which will probably go stale if I pack them now! Might go for a scout round Tesco later and see what I can find...

Alicetheinvisible · 30/06/2010 11:04

Sweets Elusive I have been doing some research, and the mini Percy Pigs from M&S are so far the favourite.

No chance of being seen by anyone competetant unless MW is away i'm afraid!

LittleMissSnowShine · 30/06/2010 11:18

blueberries, elusive - holland and barrett do a great range of power bar, pre-packed flapjacks, cereal bars, sugar free pastels etc if you and DH are in the market for some healthy snacks

I've shoved a few of the above in my hospital bag and a couple of cartons of capri sun (love that stuff!!) but I think I'm also going to stick in some chocolate and jelly sweets. you need the glucose to give you some energy after all, and a bar of green and blacks might just motivate me to get through the final stages without calling everyone in the room some horrible names!!

pamplem0usse · 30/06/2010 11:19

Can someone help?

I seem to have been tested for Rhesus antibodies twice, once in my booking in bloods and again at 28 weeks.

Idiot hospital have just written to say that they've not bothered to test the sample at my 28 week appointment because my NHS number had been left off the tube. Very annoyed because it's taken a total of 8 attempts to get two lots of blood from me; even the phlebotomist struggled last time and it took about 20 minutes of wiggling needles around in me.

Does anyone know whether I actually need the second rhesus test? My blood group is A+......

Thanks!
xxx

sparkle101 · 30/06/2010 11:24

Morning ladies,

Had 31 week growth scan yesterday - baby all growing okay although it's still breech - can't remember who wrote that their baby was breech and it explained the severe pain under the ribs but I totally agree! Appparently the blood flow is the high end of normal (about 97-99 - whatever that means)but have been booked in for another scan in 2 weeks so I assume all is okay.

It seems so wierd for me being due at the end of August to hear lots of you getting to 36/37 weeks - having shows etc, (good luck cherry keep us up to date) for me it still feels an age away (joing elusivemoose in head in the sand) but will probably be here quicker than I think.

The consultant asked yesterday whether I was still aiming for a vaginal birth - why did she have to say the 'V' word - I'm still convincing myself it'll just pop out when I'm asleep or something!

Thanks lizzie for voicing concerns over giving birth - exactly what i was thinking - nice to know I am not alone. And big thanks to neenz excellent advice when you put it like that.

elusive there's a thread somewhere on mumsnet I was reading about sweets to take into labour - the overriding answer was jelly babies - jelly sweets seem to come out on top and lucozade sweets. Chocolate and hard boiled = definate no no!

DH informed me last night he "has to go on a diet" as he feels "fat, heavy and bloated" he has no idea does he - and wondered why I burst out laughing! He has half a stone max to lose - try carrying a baby! I don't think they can ever understand.

soontobefatnat · 30/06/2010 11:52

Sparkle that was me moaning about breech baby/excruciating rib pain. Nothing makes it go away Move, baby, move!

Dibby Hector Blueberries your post-birth daydreams have made me chuckle. And they're all so blissfully positive! I'm a bit glass half empty - here's mine...

Several days post-birth and I have rowed with MIL and mummy dearest for being bloody annoying and feeling guilty for being worst daughter/DIL ever. Bad blood to last years. DH and I silent and glaring at each other, wondering why we thought we of all people would be decent parents. Sleeping in separate rooms. Baby pissed off with us for having no clue what to do with him and crying all the time. Health visitor chastising us for the rancid state of our house. Me spending the rest of my days frazzled, in a manky dressing gown. Garden becomes a jungle. Dinner is baked beans every night. Wildebeest stalk the horizon...

Where did the wildebeest come from? LOL, will stop there, I think!

marzipananimal · 30/06/2010 11:56

pample I had the 2 tests for antibodies (at booking in and 28 weeks) as well which I thought was pretty unecessary as I'm A+. The impression I got from the mw was that very very occasionally, rhesus + women produce antibodies. Are they trying to get you to have another test? If not I wouldn't worry about it.

On the subject of post baby food - rare steak and red wine mmmmmm. I don't even normally like wine that much but have wanted it a lot more since being pg - same with brie, maybe it's the allure of the forbidden!

pamplem0usse · 30/06/2010 11:58

Thanks marzipan.... they are because of the lost second test samples. I'm not convinced they were actually lost though because I've had results back for one of the rests they're asking me to repeat because it apparently wasn't carried out(!)

xx

CherryPie3 · 30/06/2010 13:36

Hola...scorching days!!!

Nothing else happening here, still totally irregular cramping/lower backache which is prob a good thing as I have loads to do!! The cot isn't even assembled yet, theres wardrobes to be moved round, lots of clean washing to be put away now that we finally have our new wardrobes up.

Feeling a little out of my depth here...don't ever feel like we're gonna be ready for lo coming!

at all these post-birth fantasies, keeping me very distracted entertained.

ooooops!! My laptop said the first post didn't work!!

hehe loving all these post birth fantasies! I've thought about this but nothing I'm missing hugely, but I'm looking forward to eating pate, drinking a glass of wine maybe with a rare steak and having some sort of naughty cheese! at some point. Can you not drink anything when your breastfeeding

Really busy day today, been running about, baby thinks it's hilarious obviously as it's bouncing around like nothing else! I Don't know who was talking about downstairs twinges/pains but I've just started to get some this afternoon, short but very sharp! not sure if it's cuz I'm overdoing it or if something is getting itself revved up!

cherry how exciting, can't believe there are folk nearly there, keep forgetting I'm 6 wks behind some of you.

I was wondering.. since some of you are only round the corner, do you think it would be easier if we used the augustladies email address to email in the birth announcements? I know that I'd proabably find it easier to send an email than try to login to mumsnet... just an idea.

Dibbydab · 30/06/2010 14:56

Anyone seen AussieNG around any other threads? Haven't seen her posting lately and it seems she's top of our due date list... Am not on FB, don't know if she's posted there.

Off to soak my feet in the paddling pool, 'tis scorchio in Devon today.

Hello - whew 33 weeks and I'm getting uncomfortable with this constant squirming inside....still a little while to go for me yet!

Has anyone used those baby lambskin mats? They look so sweet and nice but an eye-watering £50 at JoJo Maman Bebe - is that a needless luxury or does anyone advise that I should get one for LO to lie on and if so, are there any bargains out there??
