fabric rehab!

growingbump2 · 02/06/2010 10:40

Morning ladies hope all is well with the bumps! I have been quiet for the past few days trying to get organised for inlaws coming to visit today, will be great to have some visitors and DS will no doubt be spoiled rotten! Had a GP appointment at the start of the week as I had some pains in my side, the exact same pains that I had at 30 weeks with DS that turned out to be appendicitis so was a bit worried as still have appendix in. He asked if there was any chance I could be pregnant - hello 29 weeks do you think I am going about with a beach ball up my top for fashion! Never mind went to midwife yesterday for booking in appointment at new hospital since we have moved and baby is engaged, and have only put on 1.5 lbs in this pregnancy!

Bubba, loving the baby dreams I can't wait to have one! Girls and Alice hope you are both taking it easy and cooking those lo's a bit longer. at Caz's organisation I have done nothing and don't plan to for another 4 weeks at least, just don't want to be too ready then waiting for weeks with nothing to do iykwim!

thecoffeelady · 02/06/2010 11:11

Morning Ladies

I feel rough as a badgers a**e today. I have come down with a D&V bug and have been awake since 2:30am.

I am so tired but I promised DD she could go in to her big girls bed tonight so I am going to take down her cot sides later and I need to wash her new bedding. I just hope she doesn't keep falling out of bed, she is such a wriggler in bed. We are going to put a huge duvet on the floor so if she falls out at least she will land on something soft! I know she is 2 and all of the other NCT babes born at the same time have been in a bed for ages but I still think she is too little to be in a big girls bed. I want to get her used to it before #2 arrives so she doesn't think the baby has changed anything.

Hope everyone has a lovely day in the sunshine. I will post tomorrow to let everyone know how DD got on in her big girls bed.

CherryPie3 · 02/06/2010 11:22

Thanks for the link Alice - I couldn't remember what it was called!

GrowingBump How observant is your GP . Can't believe you've only put on 1.5lbs
I'm pretty sure I've put loads on but I'm doing well in not weighing myself!

Cherry and Alice thanks so much.... my googling skills weren't up to finding anything much!

coffee get well soon -- and try and take it easy!!

I'm currently in bed.... we had all of our sash windows renovated (except our room which had already been replaced) and I can't face the mess! Think I'm in need of a rest anyway as had a mad day yesterday.....

pamplem0usse · 02/06/2010 12:21

Ooh and Cherry can you change my age to 26 next time you do the list. I'd love to pretend I was still 25 but unfortunately... !

ElusiveMoose · 02/06/2010 14:16

Hi all,

Sorry, I've come on here for a bit of a whinge/sob. DS's first session at nursery this morning was a disaster. We stayed with him for a couple of minutes and then left (just lingered in the office) - and within about five minutes he was totally hysterical, screaming for us and for his dummy. I'm so glad DH was there as well, because I basically just sat there crying my eyes out in the office for an hour or two. One of us had to stay with him the whole time, otherwise he just got completely beside himself. Even when we were there, he was still crying off and on - totally unsettled. I just don't know what to do . They've said we can take as long as we need to settle him in; we've got another session tomorrow, when I guess we'll stay with him again but also try to keep our distance a bit... It's so hard. At the moment I just can't imagine a moment when he'll be happy to be left - but maybe it will just take a while. Has anyone else been through this? It's so difficult because I can't see him like that without crying myself, but the more upset I get the less likely he is to relax.... Feeling very down and tearful today.

Coffeelady good luck with the big girl's bed. DS has been in his for about a fortnight now, and he hasn't fallen (or climbed!) out once. He does kick his duvet off, but luckily it's not so much of a problem with the warm weather. We've been putting a sheet over the duvet and tucking it right under the mattress (single flat sheet spread lengthways across the bed) so that even when he's kicked the duvet down, at least he's got the sheet over him.

Chulita sorry about your crap day. On the heart thing, please try not to worry too much. We had the exact same thing with DS (ectopic HB diagnosed around the same time). I was absolutely petrified, particularly when they sent us up to Kings for a specialist heart scan. As it turned out, everything was completely fine. The heart was totally healthy, and the ectopic beat resolved itself before DS was even born (apparently about 95% of them do). In fact, I was told that most MWs would not even have noticed the ectopic beat, so I would normally never have known there was a 'problem'. One word of warning, though - my hospital insisted on monitoring DS's heartbeat all through labour, which meant I couldn't move around as much as I wanted. Kings had warned me this might happen, and had said that constant monitoring was completely unnecessary - but of course when it actually came to it, I was not confident enough to refuse the monitoring. In retrospect, I wish I had, but it's very hard to disagree with medical advice when you're in the middle of labour! Anyway, just wanted to say that I've been there, and there's almost certainly no problem with your baby .

Alicetheinvisible · 02/06/2010 14:57

Elusive perhaps if you just go to nursery with him and not attempt to leave for a few weeks (not ideal i know) just til he gets used to his surroundings a bit more, then move to the office etc....So sorry it was hard work. DD nearly had me sobbing in the shoe shop because she was so upset at having her feet measured so i don't think you were being soft

Not really having a good day. My car needs some expensive work done, after spending £400 on it last week, so got a bit hysterical about the whole thing (huge rant at mechanic/garage bloke, including the whole "I am due to have a baby in just over 9 weeks time, i cannot have a car that might decide to not work on the way to the hospital can i?" which set off a couple of painful contractions. Have calmed down a bit now, but a bit on edge still.

weehector · 02/06/2010 15:53

Sounds like a bit of a pants day all round.

Chulita Had started to sympathise re the baby's HB in a post which I left hanging on the screen while my ILs visited..but Elusive has been so empathetic & sensible here since I've been offline, that I'd feel stupid posting anything other than to say what would normally sound quite glib...I really am sure that the baby will be fine but I'm sorry that you've another stress/worry to deal with.

Alice Sorry about your crap day too - normally, I couldn't care less about the car but now its the essential chariot that will take me on the 45min trip to the maternity hospital, its suddened become Important..I'd have freaked at the garage guy too. Going back to the trivial, the Fabric rehab site looks amazing...could almost inspire me to come over all crafty if I wasn't completely handless. More bitching than stitching here, I'm afraid.

Coffee Take it easy..were you the lady catering for a BBQ birthday for 50 yesterday? If so, respect but no wonder you're pooped & pooping today.

I'm having a completely topsy turvy couple of days which are sending me in all directions. We came home from cinema & a curry after midnight on Monday to strange & restrained missed calls from DH's sister & father, who we'd only spoken to hours before we went out - which immediately sent us into a tailspin that something terrible had happened, perhaps to DH's mum. We couldn't get hold of either of them (IL's were on holiday) which meant we had a sleepless night running through potential scenarios and trying to decipher what 'give me a call when you can and I'll update you on what's happened' might mean. Turns out DH's aunt died suddenly - cue a mixture of relief (that it wasn't his mum), sadness for DH's mum who is now home but shocked and upset and now today, logistics with DH's work (he is in charge of a ferry so can't just pop off for a couple of hours for a funeral) to try and make sure he is there at the funeral because he has to take a cord at the graveside, etc. My mild mannered janitor of a husband is currently ranting because his work isn't been particularly helpful despite his entitlement to compassionate leave. They didn't cover him before when his other aunt died and he didn't kick up a fuss but I think this time its praying on his mind that if they are lazy about this with 3 days notice, are they going to be equally unhelpful if I go into labour while he is on-shift?

I've also had a morning of being punted round 3 different DWP departments to try and resolve Jobseekers > signing on > maternity allowance issues and its been a real roller coaster. 2 hours ago, I'd have ranted manically about them too but amazingly, just when I resigned myself to it being up in the air and waiting another 10 days for it to be resolved, a woman from the Job Centre phoned (initially to ask why I hadn't been in to sign on this am) & I gave her the same tale that I'd told the 3 different departments in 1.5hrs of calls this am and whilst on the line, she was able to get someone else to resolve everything between all the departments, giving me 2 tiny admin tasks to do before confirming that my MA would be paid as of 15 May! Hurrah - when Jobsworth 1 this morning told me the NI contributions I'd paid whilst self employed didn't count towards any benefits (hence my Jobseekers being stopped) and Jobsworth 2 told me that my MA application had been suspended because I was receiving Jobseekers (which I wasn't), and Jobsworth 3 told me that I still needed to do a 30 mile trip to sign on despite not receiving anything at all if I was to maintain my NI contributions, I was ready for firebombing.

Have calmed down now due to the MA good news and seeing that my ILs are doing much better today and to celebrate the fact that I will definitely have some cash coming in after all, I've just (finally, I've dithered less over new houses, wedding dresses & career decisions) ordered a Stokke nursery set. If I can get the skirting boards in the nursery painted before going out to my ante natal class, I'll feel I've achieved something today.

Apols for such a long rambling post - you can see just how all over the place the last few days have been in Hectorland.

marzipananimal · 02/06/2010 16:36

I've just posted my claim form for MA weehector - I tried to phone the jobcentre that deals with it to ask them a question about how to fill it in but after 2 days of lots of unsuccessful attempts at getting through I gave up and just filled it in as best i could. So hopefully there will be no problems!

elusive that sounds really upsetting, I hope your ds takes to nursery soon!

Hope you're feeling better coffeelady

weehector · 02/06/2010 16:50

Marzipan I think if your situation is straightforward, they'll be reasonably efficient. But do phone if you don't hear anything in a couple of weeks - I thought they were just being slow but they'd processed and suspended my application without bothering to tell me.

Chulita · 02/06/2010 19:14

elusive thanks for that, it's lovely to hear that someone else had it and it turned out fine. I'm down for constant monitoring anyway cos of previous cs so looks like I'll have to fight a bit harder not to have it. Thanks for the reassurance Hope someone has a suggestion re your DS, my DD barely seems to notice if I leave her somewhere.

hector sounds a bit crazy, hope things start settling down round yours!

alice cars are ridiculously expensive when they go wrong...we're trying to sell our runabout at the mo and even though there's nothing wrong with it, we can't get a buyer. DH is worried that if it sits around too long it'll need something doing and we can't afford to do up a car we don't need!

thecoffeelady · 02/06/2010 21:21

Hello Ladies,

Operation big girls bed is half way there.

We went shopping earlier managed to make it round the out of town Mothercare, got to the shopping centre car park and I felt really rough. Walking to the lifts I had to stop to throw up, not nice.

I still struggled around town as I had promised DD that she would have her big girls bed tonight. DP thought I was mad and kept trying to take me home but he knew better than to argue with a pregnant woman.

We came home and I slept on the sofa, DP went to collect DD from nursery and she came bounding through the door jumped on me while yelling Mummy Sleeping, bless her.

DD is now in her cot with her duvet and not her grobag and we will do the rest tomorrow afternoon

marzi that clain form is a pain, too many questions, I filled mine in on line and I just hope its all ok

alice cars always go wrong when you really don't need them to but an emotional pregnant lady rant always helps to make you feel a little better

Sal321 · 02/06/2010 21:21

Can I join you all? I'm due on 25th August with a surprise (high hopes it turns out to be a baby rather than a real surprise though). This is our first

mrsZaC · 02/06/2010 21:28

Hey ladies,

Spent the last hour catching up on all I've missed, think I'm just about there!

fantastic news about the positive suggestions that you'll go full term cherry that must be lovely to hear after all your worries.

dibby I got my nursing chair from the glasgow pram centre for £99, cracking chair - obviously not used it to nurse in yet but I love to relax and read in it - sooo comfy!

GYA & Alice sending hugs for you guy, dito the other guys in hoping that your resting, muchos sympathy for you, musn't be easy, but your on the home straight now

blueberries what knob-end neighbours you have, it astounds me how evil and inconsiderate people can be, hope they move out soon!

cazEM sorry to hear they haven't got to the route of your DH's problem yet, can totally understand your worry, you poor thing... hope it all gets resolved soon. Neurology is such a complex thing, difficult to understand and diagnose I'd imagine, not much comfort to you though, keep the energy up fighting his corner but try not to knacker yourself out in the process, maybe try some relaxation to help with the stress?

well done pamplemousse you cleaver thing!

LCR echo everyone in saying that your honeymoon looks/sounds amazing! and congrats again

Chultia sorry about your LO's heart I'm sure he'll be just fine though, and better that they found out now so they can keep an eye on it and congrats on your little boy :D

hector sorry to hear your having a crazy time too, and sorry to hear about your DH's auntie.

Re: rib pain/bum's sticking in all sorts of places, totally get what you mean now, I've had a pain in my right side that comes and goes, and sore when I've been sitting down for a while, feels like something is rammed up against my ribs, assuming some part of baby!

Can't remember who was on about constipation, but I've been practicing my hypnobirthing birth breaths/J breaths they are to be practiced on the toilet as they only time your are using your natural expulsive reflex (or something along those lines ) anyways it's supposed to really help with easing out troublesome poops! if you want I can type out that excerpt of the book for you?

Well as for me, after a mega mega busy week last week I went to Tiree for the weekend to visit friends, it was really really great. I did NOTHING on friday which was brill and baby really enjoyed it too - leaping about all over the shop DH even saw my belly move for the first time Really felt like I had a proper holiday, it was so sunny on Sunday I came back with a proper tan too, so even more like a real holiday!

Back to reality but refreshed thankfully, still got viewings but no-one bought either flat yet still keeping fingers crossed for something to happen soon. Personal training session again today, getting harder as my breaths are getting shallower, but it's good to get the blood pumping around and keep my strength up. Last hypnobirthing sesh on Friday, pretty nervous about it as I kind feel like I'll be on my own a bit after that! although I'm sure she'll be fine with the odd question or two! Practicing my breaths/relaxation most days now so hopefully it will sink in.

Made quite a few purchases so far, got all the nursery furniture (2nd hand) nursing chair, some basic vests & sleepsuits, socks etc, and my reusable nappies breastpump & accessories, microwave steraliser and my newest purchase of two 0-3 month outfits from frugi :D Just bits n' bobs to get now really, only big stuff left is baby monitor, moses basket (&kit) I think

talking of fruigi, they have special offers on just now, 30% off till tomorrow morning (9am) then I think 25% for a short while and then it keeps going down, some gorg stuff, but thought I'd best get 0-3 months so the stuff lasts a bit longer, got the ducky's set and the seafari, hope if I have a girl she likes blue!

muchos love to all you lovely ladies!

p.s. I'm confused is the 3rd trimester 27 wks onwards?

mrsZaC · 02/06/2010 21:29

wow that was a long post!

welcome sal321! post your stats on and I'm sure cherry will update you on our list (see below)

ElusiveMoose · 02/06/2010 22:15

Welcome Sal. Your post made me laugh. I've just read it straight after watching an old episode of Torchwood where Gwen is bitten by an alien and becomes 9 months pregnant with its offspring overnight. Here's hoping you haven't gotten too close to any flesh-eating aliens lately .

MrsZac, glad you had a lovely break .

Coffeelady, you are Doing Too Much (I speak as one who knows). Give yourself a rest, love.

thecoffeelady · 02/06/2010 23:12

elusive I will be ok, I am only working half days this week. As you may have guessed I don't do sitting and resting. At the moment I am just hungry but I think I will avoid all food for another 24 hours.

I am now looking forward to getting DD's big girls bed ready for her tomorrow.

DP and I are catching up with Luther on BBC iPlayer, just watching ep2. We also need to watch the last 10 eps of Lost.

I am off to bed soon, so night night ladies and I will be back tomorrow. xx

weehector · 03/06/2010 00:14

MrsZac My discounted organic babygrow radar just went on red alert - re Frugi discount, is it 30% across the full range til 9am? I've been waiting patiently for a good discount so I can invest in the Seafari & Ducky ranges but when I had a look tonight, they're still full price. Have you got a code you could pass on? Thanks.

CherryPie3 · 03/06/2010 08:43

Morning Ladies, welcome Sal321 - got you on the list, but if you wanna post the rest of your stats I'll update it again later.

Pample Changed to 26 for you

coffeelady How are you feeling hun?

Elusive Bless you, it's horrible to see them like that isn't it? Both my children were like this as well, we stayed with them for the first session, then half of the next ione, then left them altogether - this was the advice of the nursery 'teacher' and although it was bloody hard to walk out where they're screaming for you and incredibly difficult bot to cry in front of them (waited til we got to the car) - it worked very quickly - literally a couple of days!!
Hope he gets used to it very soon for you

Weehector Sorry about your dh's Aunt , hope his work give him the time he needs - its unfair, and is it even allowed for them to refuse surely?
Sounds like DWP have been giving you a good old runaround about your MA too - glad it's sorted!!!

Alice Sorry about your car hun. Why is it they seem to know when it would be the most inconvenient time to break??

MrsZaC Yes 'twas definitely good to hear after weeks of them saying theres no way I'll deliver a term baby!!
You sound like you had a lovely time away, and got a tan to boot .

Nothing to update here - just plodding on Got my mw apointment for another BP check. Honestly I think I need a reserved parking bay at the clinic for the amount of time I spend there.
Although it did hit me last night that my baby is due NEXT MONTH!!! How did that happen???? Cue lots of panic and internet searching for the carseat that we've been saying we have ages still to get it - finally ordered now tho .

Have a lovely Thursday girls

Morning girls

Had my 32 week appointment with my GP yesterday. Nothing major to report except that yesterday morning baby moved from head down to transverse and by the time the GP saw me, baby was breech! Little monkey! Think it might have turned again though as was definitely transverse for awhile last night. Oh hum. Plenty of time to get down and scrub my floors to get it to move again

ds bunkbeds arrived yesterday, so we'll be busy trying to avoid divorce assemble them this weekend . Bought some lovely bedding from M&S - it's going to look lovely! ds is soooo excited!

Have my consultant appointment tomorrow morning where I'm hoping I can convince him we can be discharged to midwife care. Had shoulder dytocia with ds but my midwife is convinced it happened because I was forced to deliver flat on my back. I'm preparing myself for a fight, so keep your fingers crossed for me!

Work just crazy busy at the moment and I just want to be at home washing babygros!!!

mrsZaC · 03/06/2010 09:49

weehector I'm so sorry I should have thought to put the code on! You can actually see it on their website but it's hidden well on the right hand side ;) if you put the discount code 'SIX' in you will still get 25% off today

mrsZaC · 03/06/2010 10:36

OMG my frugi package arrived today - I didn't to open it as the package was so pretty Seafari is my favourite!

weehector · 03/06/2010 10:59

MrsZac Thank you sooo much. I've just dropped another £60 on newborn Seafari, Ducky & the plain organic kimonos/baby gowns...mananged to sneak in the 30% offer too & just made the free delivery. I've been waiting on an offer like that for ages..their stuff is gorgeous, isn't it? I got a load of their regular sale stuff on 0-3months about 6 weeks ago. Offer's well hidden on the site though - think I missed the linked below the descriptions last night.
