Am get sooooo bored now being off and not up too much. Just chased a cat out the garden and had to sit for 20mins afterwards before I could stick a pizza in the oven.

Been to see my Grandad cos my Mam is away. Hes pretty self sufficient but cant see v well so tends to spill. House isnt in a very good state after a few days of this and I just kept bawking and couldn't do anything about it. Going to have to find someone to go & clean for me.

Oh and if anyone has any idea here

SamanthaB123 · 13/05/2010 18:09

Hello ,

I have been absent due to tiredness and overwork but have been reading the thread most days. It moves so fast I never feel I can post quickly so seem not to.

I am glad to hear that everyone is well and that the 20 week scans are starting. Mine's not for a few weeks yet but we are going to find out the sex, DH and I both want to know and can't wait to find out. We are also going to have a 4d scan a little later on.

I'm still really tired and in bed by 8pm, who knows what evening time tv is like these days! I also still feel nausous a bit of the time, usually when I haven't eaten for a while. I don't know if that will ever go now. Most of the time I am just starving and eating huge quantities of food - anyone else? I've put on about 9lbs so far is that the same as everyone else? Maybe I've put on more because of all the eating! My bump is a good size and there is no mistaking that I'm pregnant, it's all out the front though which looks more appealing!

I sometimes feel the baby moving but only tiny tickling feelings and then often nothing for days. I am trying not to worry about it...the sensation always comes back so I guess that's a good sign. I'm only 17 weeks so I think that it's ok at this stage.

Hope all well and looking forward to the weekend, SB

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 13/05/2010 18:10

Shield bug- I have a zoology degree. What are you doing? I miss uni- found it fascinating

I have definate preghead. Given the state of mind prior to pregnancy, it's getting serious

my ds is being very cute today, makes me looking forward to number 2

Katy86 · 13/05/2010 18:56

I am 18 + 4 today and after many flutters that I thought were baby I got a proper wriggle and kick today felt very good! It was after I ate ice cream I don't think he likes the cold lol...
Everyone who hasn't felt anything yet you def shouldn't worry I felt absolutely nothing not even a flutter until 21 weeks with DD xxx

BionicEar · 13/05/2010 19:58

Hello!

Sorry not been on for ages am shattered most eves and just want to go to sleep still!

Have pgbrain on at mo as have gone blank as to whether I am 16 or 17 weeks pg! Oh dear! Am sure I'll remember later... I hope!

Have been feeling the little un wriggling a wee bit so that's been nice but trying not to get parnoid when don't feel anything for a day or two as know it still early days yet to be feeling baby moving.

Went to see a friend earlier and got to cuddle her 4 weeks old baby - so cute and makes me feel more excited about baby coming - just wish didn't have to wait so long!

sam12 · 13/05/2010 20:14

SamanthaB I have been the same I just want to eat and eat. Not sure how much weight I have put on tho.

VMumToBe · 13/05/2010 21:50

Hello all - wow this thread goes so fast I can't keep up!!! It is lovely hearing all the news though and also very reassuring to know that it's boring normal to be tired/sick/stretchy etc etc - thank you ladies!

Know what you mean especially about the pregnancy "brian" as we are calling it in our house. DH found my toothbrush on the dashboard in the car this evening - seems I thought it was vital to take it to work!

Our doppler dilly was angelsounds basic one which we bought on amazon for 30quid. It is really hard to find the heartbeat, but quite cool once you have although a lot lot quieter than the surgery one. But quite fun!!

Just looking at travel systems. need something rugged to get across the fields by our house. Looking at the Jane Slalom - sooo expensive though. Hmmm....anyone come across any other "rugged" ones?

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 14/05/2010 07:06

I love my jane slalom Vmumtobe. it is amazing and it is still in really good condition for number 2 desipte being on beach/muddy field/bog etc. Downside is its huge in the car boot so the dog has to curl up very small but I think all the travel systems are like that. I now use a stroller alot of the time round the shops etc and save the jane for bigger trips (though ds is now 18mths and tends to walk or get cazrried in a back pack everywhere)

Mountain buggies look ok, P+T, but the bugaboos are not so good on rough ground (even gravel) you have tomake sure its spun round so big whell first)

I am NOT a pram hun, would just like to clarify that!!

Hermya321 · 14/05/2010 08:43

Seashells I've got a neighbour who has a bugaboo, I always sort of think they look like shopping trolleys for some reason. I like the Jane Slalom Vmumtobe, looks very sturdy.

I've recovered from my hormonal trouser induced strop for the most part. But thats only because I've hidden them. If I don't see them they don't exist.

Nymphadora · 14/05/2010 09:07

Dh asked me a question when I was typing (on here )last night & I sobbed for 20 mins as I couldnt concentrate on both. have been finding this more lately though. Usually I have TV on, MNing & talking to dh etc am now getting so I can only do one thing at a time. Is this what its like being a man ?

Doctor in half an hour, hope they have some answers didn't think I'd get home from the school run this am

Katy86 · 14/05/2010 09:39

Good luck at the doctors Nymph I
hope it goes well!xx

Tyson86 · 14/05/2010 09:42

Hello everyone.

19 weeks today and feeling ok, went to Ikea and the big George yesterday and did some more shopping, cant seem to stop

MMooMar · 14/05/2010 09:55

Hi Ladies and all those expanding bumps!
Hope everyone is well today.
Its taken me ages to read through all the postings that I have missed, havent been on for a few days or so and already there was a new thread!

Vmumtobe like Seashells I have got Jane pushchairs ,for DS2 I brought the Nomad, its great but yes quite big in the boot of the car but will stand up on end so our dog is normally ok to go in with it,dont use it much anymore as brought a Jane energy stroller for the school walk etc which is soooooo light! For DS1 we had the Jane carrera which I loved but used it to death!
Did buy a P&T Sport before the Nomad and only stuck with it for a few months as it was so heavy even with just DS2 in let alone DS1 in the add on seat do sold that and brought the Nomad with a buggy board which was great for DS1.

Floozi Glad everything has turned out well in the end for you with getting that doc and good luck for next week.I am sitting on my backside all day again today as I had my amnio yesterday.Wasnt half as bad as I had thought it would be,was there for a couple of hours as they were a bit late doing it then they make you rest up for a bit before you leave the hospital.Came home and did nothing which was hard but knew I had to.DP did the dinner, and kept up with DS2 etc and my best mate picked up DS1 school, took him home, gave him dinner etc and brought him back an hour before bedtime...bless her.
The area has been sore where the needle went in and I have had a bit of cramping but nothing major.
So should expect the PCR results monday because of the weekend now then the full result in about two weeks with the SEX of baby bear!
Glad that the actual amnio is over and trying not to think to much about the results just trying to consentrate on knowing what we will be having

Sorry for the long post guys, love to all
xxx

Katy86 · 14/05/2010 10:20

tyson I keep shopping aswel!!! Blue everywhere in my house!! Don't know where to keep it all lol
xx

Nymphadora · 14/05/2010 10:54

All bloods back as normal except thyroid which was only borderline underactive (so shouldn't be affecting me like this). Urine normal so no ifection to account for it. BP low but similar to Tues and last week so fairly stable. GP says rest & don't do too much

RooBear · 14/05/2010 11:26

are you getting bored nymph!

shieldbug · 14/05/2010 11:29

seashells I am doing a PhD (which is interesting with pg brain) investigating female reproductive success in an invasive FW amphipod in NI. I'm enjoying it and it covers areas like male-male competition, sexual conflict and parastism. The poor things get some really cool acanthocephalan parasites which can be up to 17% of their body mass, so it's all rather impressive. Sorry, you got me started there. Apologies to the rest of the thread who have fallen asleep by now! My degree was in Zoology too.

shieldbug · 14/05/2010 11:32

nymph glad they can't find anything too wrong, but it must be so frustrating. sounds like you need a really good book to stave off the tedium. Perhaps other MNetters have good suggestions. I'll kick off with The time travellers wife- you are almost guaranteed to cry though!

Nymphadora · 14/05/2010 11:33

Just a bit
Also realised this morning that I'm going to have to give up on a hort course I was looking forward too which starts in 10 days. Its only 2 UNi days but at the other end of the county. Nooone to travel with and if I get the train I would have to leave home at 6ish which negates the benefits.

DillyDora · 14/05/2010 11:47

Nymph sorry about the course, that's a shame.

Books, anything by Elizabeth George (Inspector Lynley stories soooo much better than tv) and whoever wrote the Dalziel and Pascoe books also a million times better than tv, Nora Roberts for romancey adventure, Marion Keyes - essential as oxygen, Rose Tremain or Mavis Cheek if you're feeling a bit more serious, Raphaela Barker - anything by her, light, funny, poignant and lovely and very funny about stressed out mums! Carlos Ruiz Zafon (in English!) for halfway to scary adventures - wonderful. Pat Barker - says my Mum...

Blimey, I didn't know I could remember that many with pg brain! Can you tell I live 5 minutes from the library?!

A parasite that takes up 17% of their body mass, eh? Don't we have one of those? Not really, of course LO isn't a parasite (and can I just say I didn't know my bump could hear my thoughts but she's kicking me right now!!)

xx

sam12 · 14/05/2010 12:00

Pat Barker is really good but don't get me started on books or I will be here all day. Had the worst tooth ache ever since yesterday is driving me crazy- spoke to the dentist who said I can go in and they will take a look but it is unlikely they will do anything so now I am going to go and sit for ages in the waiting room for them to look at my bad tooth!!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 14/05/2010 13:42

Dilly- actually pregnancy very closely mimics parasitism, so there is an argument there

shieldbug- you seem to be covering my fav theoretical areas. I did vet and zoology. My final project in zoology was on monogeneans and trout- many hour spent counting gill parasites!! We will bore the thread soon, but fair play. I turned down a phd in tool use beh in primates to complete vet, but sometimes regret it, some times not!

Nymph, currently reading Norwegian wood and can recommend it!Sorry they can't give you more of an answer, so frustrationg.

Mmoomar hope results are ok and the soreness settles- how exciting to know the sex soon!

shieldbug · 14/05/2010 14:26

seashells your project sounds like fun. I did some work for my MSc on Margaritifera (pearl mussel) glochidia, which were removed from trout gills. I was trying to carry out an analysis of their genetic diversity using microsatellites, but they proved a little to small to extract sufficient DNA from. I eventually got permission to sample adults (you need a licence cos they are seriously endangered) and this was more successful. Still trying to publish though!
The primate tool use PhD would have been cool, but it's so hard to get the scientific rigour into observational studies and experimental work on chimps probably suffers from lots of artefacts as a result of however they are kept. Are you a practicing vet at the mo? Do you have a specialism?

Sorry to everybody else!

nymph (and others) have you tried "The book Thief"? Absolutely amazing book.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 14/05/2010 14:45

Shield bug- I wrote my final essay on tool use and learned beh, and agree the limitations would have made it a difficult phd. Not been working for the last few months due to health pregnancy and relocation, but planning to go back early next year. I do small animals, and love my medicine and acupuncture. Hard to juggle with the changes in my life at the moment though! It must be hard to do a phd and juggle family. Dh finished his a year after ds was born- that last year was very very hard, but so worth it!
