wow, bargain justbeme

csws - i'm definitely not feeling up to the baby show. don't think i'd even be able to get around a couple of stands before collapsing in a heap.

Sunworshipper · 16/05/2010 22:00

Congratulations Meggymegmegs on the birth of baby Jimmy. How wonderful.

Hope scan goes ok tomorow justbeme

mampam · 16/05/2010 22:05

A BIG congratulations Meggy xxx

MrsDmamee · 16/05/2010 22:12

big congrats to MEGGY and welcome baby James(Jimmy

playftseforme · 16/05/2010 22:19

Congrats meggymegmegs, lovely name too

madamefreckle · 16/05/2010 22:31

Fantastic news meggy! Welcomme to Jimmy! How exciting!

I'm feeling like baby is twisting her head against my cervix at the moment...won't stop moving...and is feeling quite uncomfortable. Hoping this isn't a sign as not ready at all yet!!

GibberingGinger · 17/05/2010 00:34

congratulations meggy. great weight, hope you get home soon

I am very annoyed to be awake at this time of night. I just can't sleep. Too hot, too itchy and babies too active. twin1 (the breech one) seems a tad confused and to be trying to engage his head into my ribs and its really not comfortable!

Only two more days at work though . Unfortunately its two very manic days, but soon it will no longer be my problem. Then its all the tasks I've been meaning to do for ages like pack a hospital bag and buy nursing bras. You'd really think I'd be more organised but seem to be very blase about the babies not arriving early

Best wishes to all those with scans etc this week

poguemahone · 17/05/2010 03:57

Congratulations Meggy! And congratulations too, to SunshineDay! (Yes I'm a bit behind).

Good luck to those having scans this week. (Summerhols, when I had a late scan I told the sonographer I didn't want to know the sex so she told me to look away whenever she got too close.)

Justbeme have you tried to coax the baby to turn yourself? My baby turned to transverse last week (having previously been head-down), giving me an almighty fright. It was quite quite painful, and I did think I might be going into labour (am I a wimp?) I've been doing all sorts of contortions recommended on spinningbabies.com and I think it might have turned back but I'll get the doc to check tomorrow at my appointment.

And while this was going on DS (2) slipped on a patch of water and split his head open on the side of the bath, needing stitches . Honestly, if I can't be trusted with the DC I have, should I really be allowed to have another one??

LittleRobbo · 17/05/2010 08:35

Wow what lovely news to start the week meggy congratulations on the birth of little Jimmy Cant wait to see a pic and read birth story!! Hope your recovery is going well

MonkeyMargot · 17/05/2010 10:23

CSWS you are a veritable nut job. Even contemplating trekking around a baby show in Brum whilst heavily pregnant makes me want to lie down....you are what my mother would refer to as a trooper.

Saucepanman · 17/05/2010 10:35

meggy and sunshine HUGE congrats on your arrivals (but can people stop having them before me please?!)

CSWS wow, I would love to go to the baby show but I cannot even walk into another room without grimacing! Walk to school is between 5-10 mins and I am in the process of trying to palm each and every run this week off on dh/friends! I can't believe how immobile I am, maybe after 4 pregnancies my body has just given up.

I am feeling less frustrated and a little bit smuggy smug because we have had a busy weekend, our bedroom is lovely ands tidy, uncluttered and streamlined ready for the crib to go up hopefully later. Car boot is packed with crap for dh to take to tip when he gets back from work. Downstairs loo is now a loo again instead of a junk cupboard (better late than never I suppose). Today I am packaging ebay stuff up and hanging clothes, then packing hospital bag! My smugness just dissolved a bit as I spied the hoover upstairs, I forgot to ask DH to take it down before he went to work. Flip side of the bedrooms being all lovely is that downstairs now looks tornado ravaged!

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/05/2010 11:31

at me being a nutjob! Just trying to make the most of opportunities whilst dh has no excuse not to help!

Back from scan and consultant appointment. Think I must have misheard them at last scan, as I thought that they had said baby was 5lb 11 oz then, but think it must have been 3lb 11oz that time, as 5lb 14oz now (at 33+6).
Still breech, but consultant wasn't remotely worried, so on that basis neither am I!! He said that 25% of babies are breech at 32 weeks, but only around 2% by term, so hopefully I won't be part of that 2%! Might contact the acupuncturist in the village to check if she can do moxibustion at short notice if necessary if I don't feel it turn in the next couple of weeks. Next scan in 4 weeks at 38 weeks.

Oh and my iron is a little bit low (around 10 I think), so have been given a sachet of spatone to try. M/w was struggling to think of a good source of vitamin C that I can take it with though, as I can't have fruit juice due to diabetes. Anyone got good suggestions?

LaTrucha · 17/05/2010 11:46

Morning all

Poguemahone - you are not being a wimp. DD turned transeverse from being head down and engaged at 37 weeks and it was extremely uncomfortable!

Saucepanman - I have to confess, apart from the real hygiene bits like bathroom and kitchen, I've pretty much given up on housework.

I'm very glad it's not just me who is completely knackered. DH hasn't had a weekend off in ages, we've all had a rotten cough this weekend and I'm definitely pacing myself when it comes to just about everything I have to do. Just done sticking and stories with DD and she's having a Teletubby episode while I now have a break. ROll on the next few weeks.

I've decided to fit in a trip to my Dad's in half-term week. I'll be 35/36 weeks and it's 7 and a bit hours on the train. DH is going to help - he can't stay but he's doing both journey there and back with me. Is it a bit mad though? The thing is, we never know quite what is going to happen after the birth so I definitely want to try and see him before.

fillybuster · 17/05/2010 12:24

Wow, Megs and Jimmy, congratulations!!! Welcome to the world Jimmy, and hope you're both doing ok! Can't believe we now have our 2nd baby on the June thread and we're not even in the last week of March!!!

CSWS, you so are a nut job, but in the nicest possible way . Even the mere thought of visiting the baby show leaves me feeling utterly shattered!

WWISA, I swaddled both ds and dd with great success - full swaddle for the first 8 weeks or so, then a half swaddle (arms out) until about 12 weeks when they moved into sleeping bags. DS was born during an August heatwave and I found the easiest thing to use was a plain flat 100% cotton cot sheet: it was big enough to allow lot of 'wrapping' room, and thin enough not to let him overheat. Kept him in just a nappy and vest when it was really hot. For DD (born in Jan) we used a cot-size cellular cotton blanket, which was warmer and also very effective. The main trick we found worked was swaddling them both really tightly - they really do wiggle a lot but would get very unhappy if they could get an arm free. I've tried pre-made swaddles but didn't find them as good HTH

Hope your scan goes well today, Summerhols, and has put your mind at ease. Generally as long as you're getting loads of movement and a good heartbeat, there's not too much to worry about.

Hope you're feeling better, LaT I'd definitely go and see your dad now, whilst you can deal with the journey; if you can do it again after the baby arrives, then great, but if not at least you know you'll have seen him fairly recently....

I know what you mean about nursing bras in 'silly' sizes - the Elle McPherson ones make me snigger too . And I'm 'only' a 32E normally...very excited to check out all the lovely bra links you ladies have been posting, especially the underwired varieties which may completely revolutionise my life! Going to wait until after my milk comes in tho, as I have a couple of old royce and m&s feeding bras that will take me through the first week or two....

Had a lovely weekend, despite first DD then DS running high fevers (no other symptons of anything tho, and both back to normal this morning), but had a total mad panic hormonal stress rush thing last night as I realised how utterly un-ready for this baby I feel. Now, I know logically that its #3 and that we've got almost everything we need put away somewhere (and could always buy/borrow anything missing if it turned up tomorrow) but somehow...I don't know....I just panicked last night!! Poor DH went out to play tennis after the dcs went to bed leaving me manically trying to empty all the cupboards and drawers in the nursery...they should be empty as DD moved out 3 weeks ago but there was loads of 'stuff' to deal with. Now everything is clear and I can see how amazingly dusty/dirty the drawers, cupboards, skirting boards etc etc are...so that's the next job, once I finish work at the end of this week

Only a few more work days to go, thank goodness

Of course, I still haven't started on my hospital bag....

Where have Gizmo and LittleRobbo got to?

virgo1979 · 17/05/2010 12:39

am off to the baby show this weekend (will be 36 weeks!) am hoping to buy loads of stuff so i can just relax when i go on mat leave the week after!! if you someone lying on the floor in the corner having a snooze about 3pm, that will be me!

Summerhols · 17/05/2010 13:14

Hello all.
Congrats Meggy - how wonderful to start reading about births already, makes me very excited!

Well had the scan and all good Baby is fine but only on the 15 centile so the Dr put this down to why I am measuring small. Liquid and placenta looking good. Also when they took my BP it had dropped right down to 85/50

The only really annoying thing is that the Dr wants to do another scan in 2 weeks time to check that growth stays at this rate, which I was fine about until they realised that it was BH Monday in 2 weeks time so instead I am having it in 3 weeks (the STUPID system won't let me have an appointment in 2 weeks and 1 day!). A bit annoyed about this as hoping for a HB so want the home visit with MW to book this in, which I can not do while still being consultant led. Wish I was a bit more pushy and had just said no don't bother but I am useless when faced with Dr's!

poguemahone - hope your DS is doing OK after his slip! Don't worry about it I remember falling of a chair and having stitches!

Huge congtratulations Meggy and Jimmy . Its so exciting having babies born on here now, although it is also very scary.
Had my 38 week check up today and now my next appointment is after my due date! The baby's head was 4/5ths enaged so I am excited. Had loads of braxtons hicks last night when I was attempting to sleep.

Had nice quiet weekend and got lots of things in house/garden sorted out, I even managed a wee bit of weeding so I felt quite pleased with myself.

BTW how difficult is it to get the hang of swadling, would erally like to try but am worried I wont be able to get the hang of it?

perkster · 17/05/2010 13:48

Congratulations meggy! Lovely name and hope you are recovering well

I have been considering going to the baby show as I live in brum but don't know if I will just be depressed at all the stuff I cannot afford to buy!

I came over all unnecessary (to use an old phrase) in M&S at the weekend, all very embarassing, I was just waiting a bit too long to be served and it was REALLY hot in the department I was in and consequently found myself with tears running down my face at the counter! All I could think is 'hormones why now?' You know, in public when really I was fine just clearly I had done a bit too much, the poor staff were worried I was going to faint! If you do have a turn I highly recommend M&S they sat me down at the counter, got a glass of iced water, asked if I was on my own and what other shopping I had to do, my answer? A pint of milk and a lemon! One of the ladies went downstairs and got these for me, the first aider then walked me to my car once I had regained my composure and called me today to make sure I was OK.

I didn't think I had over done it as I didn't feel that tired but when I got home I slept for a couple of hours so clearly my body is telling me to drop down a gear.

Oh well, a lesson learnt and I thought I would share to give you all a giggle!

MonkeyMargot · 17/05/2010 14:45

Oh dear perkster. What a palava. Good job M&S are as reliable as their knickers. I don't think you realise sometimes how knackering it is carrying another person around with you 24 hours a day.

goodname swaddling is really easy. The Gina Ford book has a good picture of how to do it. It does work really well - I am just worried this time around about overheating in the summer.

csws glad scan went well and that your baby isn't too enormous as you thought it might be!

I am at work but my back is killing me. I keep having to lie down on the floor. I have literally had back to back conf.calls all day and am really missing my lunchtime nap. Only 9.5 working days left...

DH home tonight which I'm pleased about. And 34 week growth scan tomorrow which I'm looking fwd to.

any more babies arrived today perchance?

greensnail · 17/05/2010 15:20

CSWS - how about peppers as a source of vitamin C? You could eat some pepper sticks when you take the spatone. Vegetables like brocolli, brussel sprouts are good sources too but I don't know how often you have to take the spatone and whether you can face sitting down to a plate of brocolli each time!

LaT - I'm sure the journey will be exhausting, but its obviously important you spend as much time with your dad as you can so I would be going too if I was you. Don't think you're mad at all.

goodname - i was really rubbish at swaddling except with one of the blankets you can buy especially shaped for it, but I know other people find it really easy. Its obviously just something I have a mental block about. Make sure you ask a midwife to show you how to do it once the baby is born.

perkster - how embarassing, but good old M&S for coming to your rescue!

fillybuster · 17/05/2010 15:22

Oh dear Perkster, that sounds quite traumatic, but good to hear how nicely they took care of you Remind me of bursting into massive floods of tears in John Lewis at the 38 week mark before dc1 was due as I utterly and completely failed to get to grips with collapsing the buggy we were looking at. I was in a complete state, convinced that this meant I would be an appalling mother if I couldn't even fold a bloody buggy.... They also sat me down, gave me water and tissues and were very reassuring Lesson learnt? Don't try to buy a new buggy when you're so massively pregnant you can't even see your feet!!

Swaddling is easy and (I think) there's lots of demo vids on youtube and stuff. I also vaguely recall it being one of the only useful bits of info in the GF book....

Hope all you ladies still at work with sore backs are trying to take it easy...I'm struggling to get much done today: I should be writing my handover notes ahead of a series of handover meetings tomorrow but am fillybustering on here instead....oops!

fillybuster · 17/05/2010 15:23

Oops, xposted with greensnail and didn't mean to say "swaddling is easy" straight after someone else said it wasn't !

What I mean to say is that dh and i found it easy once you get the knack....diagrams definitely help!

greensnail · 17/05/2010 15:26

Don't worry filly, I agree it should be easy, but its just one of those things I can't do!
