The midwives taught me. I just put DD down with her shoulders level with the long end of a triangular blanket, put her arms by her side, brought one 'wing' across and tucked it under her bottom very firmly and then the same with the other side, then folded up the bottom bit. You can do the feet more securely too but we never did so I'm not sure at which stage you tuck the flap under for that.

I did usuall have the 'wing' that I tucked under first shorter than the other wing (ie. DD wasn't slap int he middle of the blanket).

I thought that would sound easy, but now I've written it, it's probably as clear as mud.

Greensnail - DH could never do it either!

imkeepingmum · 17/05/2010 17:23

Ooh congratulations meggy!!! Hope you and Jimmy are doing OK! Told DH the other day that baby number 1 had arrived on this thread and he realised it's not long to go now really, and now another one has arrived, he is going to be even more worried! Gets particularly excited/nervous if I say I think I'm having braxton hicks

CSWS thanks for link the the bra I actually have that one in a non nursing style and v comfy so may try the nursing one.

whenwillisleepagain · 17/05/2010 18:56

meggy and jimmy - big contratulations, lovely news, and so exciting.

thank you everyone for all the advice on swaddling, am now searching the flat for something suitable / about to order one from internet, as not long to go now - off to hospital in just under 24 hours. I will definitely try swaddling though.

Had a first round at our place today - got the carpets professionally cleaned, rather amazed at results. Now just need a guy to come in tomorrow morning to finish off some doorhandles from 2 years ago... and I can relax and have a baby. Will try and have one more look at the thread before I head off.

RubyReins · 17/05/2010 19:28

Hello ladies - may I join? I only just found this

I'm 31 and my first baby is due on 26 June - no idea what s/he is. I think it's a boy but I'm alone on that front and the book has now closed on LO being a wee girl!

I've been pretty well apart from GD which sucks but I'm coping well enough.

Having a dry run on the labour bag tonight and I'm now allowing myself to get excited.

Very glad to have found this and best wishes for the next few weeks!

AlwaysHopeful · 17/05/2010 21:44

Yey Meggy! Congratulations to you and little Jimmy. You were due the same day as me, so I am now beside myself with excitement that there's a possibility that my baby might decide to move out soon too!

Have been very off this past couple of days. Can't explain what's wrong, but mainly I feel overcome with tiredness like I did at the beginning of this pregnancy. Also, (TMI alert) discharge has really changed to very gloopy and lots of it, so I think I'm experiencing some hormonal change of some sort. Baby's wriggling around like usual and Braxton Hicks contractions are getting stronger.

I have a wedding to go to tomorrow - couldn't feel less like a party if I tried! Haven't got anything special to wear because I couldn't pursuade myself to buy something for a wedding I might miss if baby came early... Will see what the weather's doing and find something appropriate-ish. Being 38 weeks pregnant has to be a good excuse for not having the perfect outfit, I think!

Hello to RubyReins and all the new ladies! Most of all, GOOD LUCK to WhenwillISleepAgain... hope to hear from you again very soon.

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/05/2010 22:33

AlwaysHopeful - not a show is it?

Good luck whenwilli - we need those planned c-sec dates on the stats so that we can see them all and go eek!

Welcome RubyReins - I have GD too (since 12 weeks this time, and 17 weeks last time). Are you diet controlled or metformin/insulin?

earlyonemorning - as long as you are happy about the consultants making decisions for you then cool - I just don't like to see people being pushed into things because they don't realise that they have choices, but I guess that by your 4th baby you know what compromises you are prepared to make and when to speak up for yourself and when not to bother .

Saucepanman · 18/05/2010 00:16

Damn my smugness this morning. Despite a productive day today I feel low again. And I have the runs. And what I think is my first ever pile [grr]oh and can't sleep, obv! Heartburn/legs/tummy pains

herewegrow · 18/05/2010 10:44

Congratulations Meggymegs hope you recover from your ECS soon and are enjoying getting to know Jimmy!!!

So exciting that we already have two new babies on the thread.

greensnail · 18/05/2010 12:56

Good luck whenwillisleepagain, you must be getting really excited/nervous now! Wonder if you'll have baby no.3 on the thread or if someone else will sneak in first!

I've had my induction brought forward by 2 days - now booked in for monday 24th. Can't wait to get this baby out now, but now its less than a week away it feels a bit real and scary! Just have to ring my mum and rearrange childcare now.

LaTrucha · 18/05/2010 13:29

So exciting WWISA and Greensnail.

I am green with envy.

I cannot WAIT not to feel sick. 8 months of it: enough already.

Suzy1975 · 18/05/2010 13:48

Hello, I've just seen this thread - can I join too?

I'm 34 and my first baby (a boy) is due on 4 June.

Good luck for the coming weeks, everyone!

greensnail · 18/05/2010 14:02

Welcome Suzy

I'm sorry LaT. Hope your sickness goes away quickly after the birth. I can't wait to feel better again either.

mampam · 18/05/2010 14:39

Hi all, hope you're all ok (ish)?

I've just come back from my pre-op assessment this morning. All is looking good for my CS next week, I'm 2nd on the list so should be in theatre by 10.30am which I'm pleased about as I was worried about not being able to eat from midnight on Monday!!!! (I know, all I ever think about is food!!).

I haven't been coping so well at night recently, I'm in agony (pelvis) and bump really hurts when I lay on my side too plus I've literally been getting up every hour on the hour for a pee It's so hard not to cry in the middle of the night when I'm so tired, fed up and in pain. (Am willing this baby out before next Tues but I don't think he/she is going to comply!).

Did anyone see 'Escape to the Country' yesterday afternoon? It was filmed in Devon where I live! The couple had £1,000,000 to spend and wanted a place a stones throw from a beach but not even that amount of money really got them what they wanted!!

greensnail that's good news about your induction being brought forward, so you will be giving birth on either 24th or 25th. When I was induced with DS it was the 7th May but I had to have a 2nd pessary at about 5.30pm, things got going at about 8.30pm and he was born at 12.30am on 8th May.

Goodluck whenwilli xxx

Someone is having an ELC on the 24th but can't remember who???????

welcome newbies

LaTrucha · 18/05/2010 14:46

Bah. Ignore me moaning or I'll never stop!

Hi Suzy. Hi Mampam.

I am seriously stuggling with DD now. DH is staying home from work in the mornings to look after her and coming back later in the evenings for a few days to see if this improves things for me. I'm a lucky lady. Even a little play in the garden today - with me mainly sitting down and throwing a ball with poor DD playing fetch - had me feeling wretched.

I'm really hoping it's the cough I've got as 6 weeks of this (potentially) is going to be frightful.

Those of you working on DC3 - any tips on the last few weeks with a toddler?

Also, those of you with toddlers: how long do you leave it before going to the GP about a rash? DD has had one for 10 days or so now. Until today, it hasn't got better or worse (despite addition of various hopeful creams) but today it has spread. I don't want to be PFB as I know kids get rashes all the time but it seems a bit long to me. WWYD? (BTW - it doesn't seem to bother her)

Oh! and for CSWS. Vauxhall Astra being fetched tomorrow. Exciting!

fillybuster · 18/05/2010 15:05

Good luck WWISA

I'd take Sabela to the doctor soon, LaT, 10 days is hardly being too pfb about things In terms of 'tips', I have the advantage of being in London, but I do find that softplay type things, where dd/ds can run around whilst I watch (they seem to make new friends there every time) and tire themselves out, are great. Same with playgrounds/parks, although I'm now reduced to driving there, so this may depend on you having access to a car. I also find baking/craft activities are a great way of keeping them occupied without too much movement from me, ditto for playgroups....

On my 2nd last day of work....panicking at how much there is to do before I finish (ok, I will definitely be working next week, but not officially) and very very relieved to be stopping soon....the journey in this morning was bloody awful and my SPD is awful even with loads of co-dydramol. And I have an eye infection - went to see the gp yesterday who a) bollocked me for not being checked up often enough and b) prescribed antibiotic cream for my eye but told me I'd probably need a full course of oral abs later in the week.....sigh....

Also very tired, grumpy and hormonal. DH tells me i'm being a nightmare...!

greensnail · 18/05/2010 15:06

Good to hear from you mampam. Glad all is looking good for the CS, are we allowed to say "not long to go" yet?

I didn't see escape to the country which is a shame as we'll have to push on with our own devon househunt soon - sadly our budget isn't quite that high though.

I have my fingers crossed that baby will arrive on the 24th, I managed to get DD out on the actual day of induction so hope I can do it again. I suspect the fact that I was desperate for her not to have her birthday on christmas day gave me a big psychological push to get things moving and she was born at 11.05 pm on christmas eve. Will need to think of some reason why I don't want this one on the 25th to see if I can manage it again!

I think it was Meggymegmegs due to have CS on 24th, but obviously events brought it forward a bit!

Not sure about the rash LaT. I tend to think if its not bothering her and she seems well in herself there's probably not too much to be worrying about, but perhaps if its spreading it should be looked at. What does it look like and where is it?

goodname · 18/05/2010 15:08

Ahh! I am getting rather panicky feelings in my stomach now with all this mention of babes being born, esp seeing as I am at the top of the due date list. I have just presumed this baby will be late all the way through but am now scared. We have friends from Austrailia staying this weekend so hope baby fergus doesn't come before then.
Also have not finished all my work yet for maternity leave, cant quite seem to focus on it though and my back and pelvis get really sore if I sit for too long.

My sister organised a baby shower for me last night at a friends tearoom (despite me insisting I did not want one as I hate being the centre of attention!). In the end it was lovely, tea and scones and cream and lots of chocolatly stuff and even non alcoholic cocktails. I am feeling a bit sad though today as although I have lots of great friends and family around me, I dont really know anyone round about who is having a baby at the same time, all my friends have either finished having babies or are thinking about having them in a couple of years or so. I always seem to get my timings wrong. I also really dont like meeting new people all that much (just too shy), so not that keen on making new baby friends. Anyway enough moaning, think I am just a little over tired and emotional as I realy did not sleep at all last night.

Hope everyone else is well and the C-sections or any other early births go well. Hope everyone is going to put up pictures soon

greensnail · 18/05/2010 15:08

Filly - we seem to keep cross-posting with contradictory advice

goodname · 18/05/2010 15:26

Oh and thanks for swaddling comments/advice.

Just wanted to ask filly or anyone else who did baby whisperer routine. Did you do cluster feeds in the evening and was that not quite a hassle? Did you have to wake the baby up from their nap to feed them? Sorry I have so many questions

LaTrucha · 18/05/2010 15:41

Thanks for tips Filly - soft play etc good for the days I'm up for the walk but it's a good 45 minutes. Any new crafty tips appreciated. We've done gluing, sticking stickers and painting almost every day this week.

Greensnail - the rash is on her leg, towards her bottom. Her nappy cuts across it but doesn;t seem to aggravate it. It's small, raised red bumps.

LaTrucha · 18/05/2010 15:44

Will now attempt to build DD's sandpit!

herewegrow · 18/05/2010 15:50

LaT bit of silly question but i'm not a label or the stitching holding the label into her trousers rubbing her giving her little red blotches is it?

herewegrow · 18/05/2010 15:51

hahahaha sorry that didn't make any sense. I ment it's not a label. I am sure you are aware that I'm not a label

greensnail · 18/05/2010 16:04

lol at herewegrow possibly being a label in LaT's DD's trousers . Will put my thinking cap on for any bright ideas on what might be causing it! If nothing else, a trip to the doctors would take up a bit of time that you don't need to think of an activity for . Don't envy you at all not being able to drive with a toddler at this stage. I've even been driving DD to the village swings the past few weeks as I really can't face the walk.

LaTrucha · 18/05/2010 16:27

I did wonder

We are using a new brand of nappies at night (we use disposables at night) but I THINK the rash started before then and it doesn't follow the nappy line.

Sandpti halfway there! Stopped for a breather. DD is putting in a bid for building castles. Best go.
