greensnail I have been eyeing up the Hotmilk bras as well after having horribly unattractive ones with DD! I didn't realise anywhere local stocked them - where did you get yours?

mampam · 15/05/2010 18:02

LaT I'm still here!!! Have been reading just not typing.......too bloody knackered to be honest.

whenwillisleepagain · 15/05/2010 18:18

Hi everyone

Like many of you I'm feeling under the weather (sore kicky bump and sore throat, which I badly need to get shifted before cs next week), and worrying about whether DS will be ok in my absence, not that I'm doing a very good job of looking after him at the moment.

anyway apologies if we already had this discussion on an earlier thread, and I will search MN for more info, but have any of you done swaddling with past babies? I think I heard that it suits some, but not others, depending on their temperament. Also, just seen that the weather's due to get warmer next week - would it be ok to swaddle in summer (ie increase SIDS risk?), or do you just use something really light to swaddle with? thanks, will be really interested if anyone has views. I'm seeing MW on Mon so will try and remember to ask her what she thinks as well.

greensnail · 15/05/2010 19:38

mrsalwaysright it was the lingerie shop in Abingdon, its on Bath Street and I think its called Marie. They only had one hotmilk style in, but they had some other pretty ones too.

sunworshipper I have a widgey pillow and love it. Have been using it during pregnancy to help get comfy and it worked really well as a nursing pillow too. Also great for propping the baby up when they're learning to sit as well. Have never used a normal v pillow though, so can't really comment on whether that would be just as good.

whenwillisleepagain I have some swaddling blankets that I'm planning to use. I was thinking if its quite warm I could have the baby in just a nappy under the swaddle. I also have a really huge muslin which my cousin sent me from australia when DD was born, and I was thinking I could try swaddling with this in the warm weather as well.

greensnail thanks, I know the one you mean.

madamefreckle · 15/05/2010 23:22

Goodname - These nighties are possibly not the prettiest you can get, but for comfort and practicality they are fantastic - with popper opening at front. Alternatively, just any old jim-jams!

madamefreckle · 15/05/2010 23:32

Oh, forgot to say Summerhols - Good luck for Monday. It seems to me to be a very inexact science - varies depending on how the baby is lying, which m/w measures it, how you are positioned on the couch etc etc. Also, don't worry about not wanting to find out baby's sex, just mention it to the sonographer. I had a scan on Thursday and really couldn't work out at all what I was looking at!! - So much less clear than the 20 week scan actually.

LaTrucha · 16/05/2010 10:06

HI all - coughs and colds here so not much to say.

But I did want to say not to worry about fundal measurements. They are really inaccurate, especially if you are tall. We even had a scan the day before DD was born and it was a kilo out!

Summerhols · 16/05/2010 10:25

Thanks for your messages, going to keep busy today with gardening and cinema

On the nighty front (sorry can't remember who started the question) - I got a OKish one from M&S for £12 that buttons all the way down the front. Also got 2 not so nice ones from Primark for £3 each that button down some way. Figure they will do for hospital and then can be chucked if necessary.

LaTrucha hope you get better soon!

imkeepingmum · 16/05/2010 11:51

Hi all have just been trying to catch up on thread. We've now got hospital bag packed, except for a few bits like clothes for me to come home in. DH was determined this was going to be done as soon as we were given a list at the ante natal class just in case baby makes an early appearance! Still just under 6 weeks to due date so think we are well prepared

Also need to get nursing bras but believe I need to wait until 37/38 weeks for that, goodness knows what size I am going to need though, was a 30F before pregnancy, now in a 34H...suspect I am not going to have an awful lot of choice...oh how I laugh at the ranges that go up to D/E cup...

madamefreckle · 16/05/2010 14:51

I'm the opposite...I find that pregnancy and afterwards is the only time that I can find bras to fit me - normally I'm a 34B or 36A and lots of bras don't come in an A cup. But i reckon I'll be up to a 38C in a couple of weeks which will open up my options dramatically!!

meggymegmegs · 16/05/2010 18:09

Congratulations meggymegmegs - hope you recover quickly from your c section. So exciting to have a little one born already (I have same due date) but also bit scary as so behind on my preparations!! Will now quickly get my arse into gear! xxxxxxxx

MrsAlwaysRight · 16/05/2010 20:25

Congratulations Meggymegmegs

Anyone else getting slightly scared now babies are starting to arrive?!?!?

LaTrucha · 16/05/2010 20:32

Congratulations Meggymegs! Welcome to the world little Jimmy! Hope you're recovering well and enjoying lots of lovely cuddles.

6 weeks to go here, so a couple of weeks early sounds like a very good idea right now! (obviously an emcs is not a walk in the park though: had one myself).

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/05/2010 20:36

Oh congratulations meggymegmegs - really look forward to hearing the details once you're up to it.

imkeepingmum - I was an H cup before I had dd, and thankfully didn't increase much after having her (and have not had any time not breastfeeding in the 4.3 years since) - think my biggest bras are a J cup. These are prob my favourite in such a big size .

earlyonemorning - why will it all be out of your hands if the baby is still breech at 36 weeks? There is still lots that can be done after that to try and turn it, so please don't be pushed into anything that you aren't happy with.

whenwillisleepagain - I swaddled for a long time with dd, including through the summer 06 heatwave. I just used a flannelette or cotton cotbed sheet which I cut diagonally so that there wouldn't be loads of layers wrapped over her, and put very little on her underneath.

Summerhols - good luck for your scan tomorrow. The other factors are very encouraging, so hopefully the scan will show that your midwife simply needs a new tape measure . It's perfectly easy to have a scan this late without finding out the sex by the way - just mention that you don't want to know and they can avoid going over that area, as they don't need to look down there to check the measurements.
I too am having another scan tomorrow morning (have had them every 4 weeks to check growth due to GD) and we also don't know the sex.

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/05/2010 20:53

Is anyone going to the babyshow in Birmingham this weekend coming btw? Think that dh is going to look after the dc for the day on Friday so that I can pop up unencumbered, and have a good nose at the nappies and other stuff that I don't really need but will buy anyway.

LaTrucha · 16/05/2010 21:02

Ooo swaddling. Yes, we did it with DD. Midwives always seem to say not to but hospitals always seem to do it. DD was a January baby so not too many worries about heat. I've bought one proper swaddle sheet this time - just jersey cotton really - and I have a couple of flannel sheets and a cotton blanket. I'll see what seems best at the time.

Big fan of swaddling here. DD liked it for 5 months then went into sleeping bag.

justbeme · 16/05/2010 21:20

Many Congrats Meggymegmegs!!
My due date was the same as yours but has been moved to 30/5 - so now I'm getting scared!!

CSWS - I wouldnt want to contemplate Birmingham!!! You are a real wanderer arent you!!

Im having a scan tomorrow too - as last one showed - too much liquor/transverse lie and they need to check position of fibroid.

Oh and got 2 brand new Motherease wraps today at car boot sale - still in boxes for 50p each!!!!
