fillybuster · 17/06/2010 18:04

Congratulations RnB and Perkster

Still no action here (40+3) but I had a sweep this afternoon.

The good news: my cervix is 'nice and soft' which is more than has happened with my 2 previous dcs in advance.

The bad news: Flump has migrated right round over the past few days and is now firmly back-to-back The midwife was quite impressed as how thorougly the baby has wedged itself into that position !

Oh well, I did suspect this might happen...

Anyway, I had a small show as part of the sweep, and have been quite sore/achey ever since. I've got a late booking scan and sweep tomorrow and the mw reckoned that 2 sweeps in 24/48 hours should be enough to get things moving if they aren't already. And I've bought my castor oil (for Saturday morning) if nothing is happening by then!

LittleRobbo · 18/06/2010 08:21

Congratulations perkster i think sidney is a great name,i imagine a gorgeous cheeky little boy

alwayshopeful lovin the pics, your dc's are so cute!

Filly here's hoping you don't get to the castor oil stage,i will have my fingers crossed for you today

MrsAlwaysRight · 18/06/2010 09:53

Hi Ladies,

Just a quick update from me while DD1 in front of TV and DD2 sleeping!

All going well so far with feeding and managing to get some sleep as well apart from the 2nd night which was horrendous! Caitlin loves her new little sister and has been very good with her.

I've put a couple of photos on my profile.

Congratulations to all the new mummies (sorry haven't had chance to completely catch up on thread to see everyone who has popped in the last few days!)

Good Luck to those with imminent C/S, inductions and due dates.

Can I also recommend taking Arnica (used 200c) it has really helped with swelling/bruising.

Will try and catch up properly soon.

fillybuster · 18/06/2010 11:05

Still no action here...I obviously made it far too comfy in there !

Anyway, mucal plug/show still emerging and off for my 2nd sweep and late scan (and (boo!) induction date setting) at the hospital now....I've told DH that I intend to go into labour tomorrow evening, as parking in Central London and Congestion Charge are free after 6pm tomorrow until Monday morning, so it will make everything a lot easier. Not sure that he believes me though !

Hope all the mummies and babies are doing well, feeding nicely and getting some sleep and that all the rest of the remaining bumps are behaving themselves

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/06/2010 11:17

Congratulations perkster! I keep smiling about the name as I hear that great dirty laugh that Sid James had in my head every time I think about it .

I guess no-one's allowed to go into labour again tonight due to the footie then? Tomorrow sounds like a good plan filly, except that (round here certainly) you end up missing the newborn hearing screening if you are in on a weekend, which meant lots of faffing about with appointments for us last time.

Lovely pics MrsAR.

I guess I'd better start taking some arnica just in case this baby actually turns up early or on time .
Off for a heartbeat trace at the hospital this afternoon, which will at least mean that I get to sit with my feet up and a book for half an hour whilst my friends and their dc trash my house look after my dc.

MerryMarigold · 18/06/2010 13:35

MonkeyM had twin boys apparently...saw on FB. In case any of you were dying to know!

greensnail · 18/06/2010 14:26

Newborn hearing test might not be a prob over the weekend, I suppose it depends on the area. I was quite impressed that DD1 got hers done on boxing day!
Alice failed her hospital one anyway, so we still had to go for another appointment for her.

Hope the trace is ok CSWS - I used to quite enjoy going for mine as well as it was a lovely chance for a lie down in the day and the sound of it was the only way I could get DD1 to sleep during my hospital appointments!

Looking forward to hearing some more birth stories soon.

Summerhols · 18/06/2010 14:40

Well I am offically overdue by 1 day! I like fillys description of a chill out room style womb. Though today I have hoovered (again), scrubed the skirting boards and washed the cat flap . Surely this is nesting?

pesker - love your boys name, think it is cool.

Looking out for the birth announcements from the ladies who went for inductions a day or so ago.

Sunworshipper · 18/06/2010 15:28

Gosh, what a lot has happened in 10 days - well I think it is 10 days. I seem to have been put to sleep in one world and awoken into a parallel universe where day and night blur into each other!

Congratulations to AlwaysHopeful, Woofie, LittleRobbo, Poguemahome, MrsCO9, MrsAR, Boobz, JustbeMe, MOnthlymayhem, Roundabout, RnB and Perkster on the birth of your babies.

I am a Mummy at last!!! Our wondrous little daughter, Romola Ann Bettina, arrived on the 8th June weighing in at 5lbs and 15oz. She was born by elective cs under general anaesthetic. I had a couple of problems afterwards so spent some time in the high dependency unit in the birth centre but thankfully Romola was unaffected by the GA and did some serious bonding with Daddy. The day of her birth was a bit of a blur and I was only able to touch her little face with my nose. The midwives were fantastic though and made a little nest in the bed so she could be next to me. We're home now and still struggling with breastfeeding although I seem to be producing gallons of milk. It takes her about 45 mins to latch on every feed - the main problem seems to be that her tongue gets in the way every time - but she is putting on weight and the community midwives have already discharged us. Have nearly gone bonkers from all the conflicting advice I have received and like Greensnail am trying to listen to my own instinct and not take on any poor advice. Difficult to know with your first. Just taking things day by day.

LittleRobbo · 18/06/2010 17:00

Many congratulations sunworshipper it sounds like you have been through the mill, but all worth it what a truly beautiful name, gorgeous.

fillybuster · 18/06/2010 20:17

Congratulations sunworshipper, really fabulous news Glad you're both home safely and enjoying your time together

Went for my 'late scan', cervix scan, 2nd sweep and induction-date-agreement meeting today. So...late scan suggests everything is utterly fine and (no idea how they can possibly do this bit...but anyway....) apparently there's a 67% chance I'll go into labour in the next 7-10 days .

Cervix scan confirmed that it's long, baby scan confirmed flump is firmly posterior (back to back).

2nd sweep wasn't really a sweep, more of a bloody uncomfortable wiggle around my cervix as its still shut and too long for the mw to sweep inside

Induction is now booked for Monday morning. I know they would happily let me go until the end of the week but I've had enough now anyway, plus DS's birth was extremely traumatic (for me, anyway), and I've agreed with the consultant that 7 days is as late as its a good idea for me to go....

So its curry tonight, castor oil in the morning and castor oil again on Sunday mornign if there's still no action....!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/06/2010 20:37

Congratulations sunworshipper . I've not come across that name before - what are its origins?

What does the castor oil actually do filly?

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/06/2010 20:38

Oh, and all fine with my CTG this afternoon, so back in next Friday for another.

fillybuster · 18/06/2010 21:38

Castor oil basically irritates your uterus as well as your bowels, so gives you the runs (not nice, and creates a risk of dehydration, so you need to be v careful) but also 'gets things going' if they're pretty much ready to do so.

This has now been confirmed to me today by several midwives and 2 doctors, although everyone is very careful not to actively recommend it as an approach to kick-starting labour

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/06/2010 21:41

Oh I don't think I can face that tbh - I hate having the runs, and am prone to them anyway.

fillybuster · 18/06/2010 21:54

Glad the CTG went well - hope you had a nice rest at the same time

If you don't like having a dicky tummy I strongly recommend avoiding the castor oil approach to self-induction . On the plus side, there's certainly less left to come out along with the baby, when you get there....!!!

Sunworshipper · 18/06/2010 22:53

Filly hope the curry and the castor oil has the desired effect over the weekend.

CSWS my Dad's girlfriend lent us a very old book of baby names from the 1920s and Romola was one of the names and my DH fell in love with it. It's from the Italian renaissance and apparently is one of five girls' names from that time including Laura, Alma, Aurora and Diane. It means woman of Rome. 'Romola' was also the title of a novel by George Eliot and the name of its rather unique heroine which I loved studying at uni and reminds me of Florence where DH and I had a v romantic time and there's also the actress 'Romola Garai' who is rather beautiful and bounds around in lots of period dramas!!! Our Romola is variously Romy, the Romster and Rom the Pom (my DH being an Aussie). Glad your CTG went well. Fingers crossed for you.

playftseforme · 18/06/2010 23:23

quick update - Rory and Fergus were born on 15th June, 6lb 4 and 6lb 8, by planned CS, got home yesterday evening. They're gorgeous and we can't tell them apart so they're still wearing their hospital name bands.

Congratulations on all arrivals so far (thanks for the updated list) and good luck to those still 'cooking'

GibberingGinger · 18/06/2010 23:46

Congratulations PlayFTSE, great names (very scottish - not that I'm biased!) And brilliant weights.

Filly, hope the self induction goes ok. 'Tis very frustrating being overdue - I know I went a bit crazy with DD when I was overdue.

Had a lovely evening quaffing wine with one of my mates. Unfortunately was texted by DH to say the twins are really fractious so had to come home a little early. Looks like we are in for a long night!

MrsDmamee · 19/06/2010 11:22

congrats to new mummies sunworshipper on the arrival of your baby girl and playftse and your twin baby boys.

and all new mummies hope you are all resting and enjoying your new bundles

bubs1 · 19/06/2010 11:35

Just to update my details. Had 2 sweeps this week to no avail. I keep being told i am not ready so it looks like i have to admit to myself it will come on Monday as i am being induced (boo hoo) on my due date. Trying everything this weekend to bring it on!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/06/2010 11:47

Congratulations playftse .

bubs - am I right in remembering that you have diabetes, and that is why you are being induced so early? If so, then don't be too surprised if the induction takes a few days. I went in on a Monday last time but he didn't arrive til the Friday!

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/06/2010 12:02

Sorry - distracted mid-message by family arriving home.

Sounds like Romola is the perfect name choice for you then sunworshipper. Am at Rom the Pom!

woofie · 19/06/2010 15:19

Congratulations sunworshipper and playftse- wonderful news! And yet more lovely names.

Laurie's doing well. I was a bit disappointed to learn that he'd dropped a couple more oz at 10 days even tho he's been feeding voraciously and my supply seems ok. I could see the midwife was a little concerned, so hope we're not going to be harrassed now. He sleeps for 5-6 hrs on the trot at night, which is great and so much better than ds1 managed for weeks, but I feed him 8-10 times in the day. Of course the mw is now suggesting that I wake him up at night, but I just can't face it, otherwise I'll have no energy left for ds1. We struggle a little with the latch on the right side, but I think we're getting the hang of it- rugby ball positioning seems to work better. My instinct is that he's fine, as he's weeing and pooing loads and generally content, tho he lets me know when he's hungry. Bf experts- whaddya reckon? Should I be waking him? Thanks
