Also ... sorry, I really should be more concise. Managed to get a pair of long leg maternity jeans from the GAP. So happy as this is the first time. And I hate looking like a knobend in ankle flappers.

lilllysa · 09/08/2010 19:09

Seems like ages till my 20 week scan!! Keep feeling totally forgotten about (no scan for 6more weeks, no 16week appointment!)

Bleh

Love feeling the kicks Sarrita its very reassuring! :)

Also got some great maternity jeans from Dorothy Perkins . . Nice long leg! :)

stenogirl · 09/08/2010 19:43

week 20 or maybe it's 21

Hello girls,
I'm on my holidays too - in Ireland seeing my folks and yeah you guessed it, it's rainy! Well it was warm today but sure I have no flip flops with me so I'm roasting.

I'm feeling good generally but get tired if I have to walk far or stand on my feet for ages. My tummy gets 'tight' every so often and I googled it and it appears to be Braxton Hicks contractions - feels weird. Haven't felt any kicks as such but maybe that's cos my placenta is anterior and low.

I'm wearing maternity clothes now. Got some tops in New Look, trousers from Next, jeans from Peacocks and work clothes from Mothercare. Love the jeans... think I might wear them all the time with the soft material over the tum!

I've got my scan on thursday - can't wait :)
good luck to all you ladies with scans soon. :)

mummychicken · 10/08/2010 09:22

18w+3
littlehuman I used disposables at night and terries in the day -I didn't like the traditioinal plastic pants but found that most velcroed covers fitted over them. As DS got older I cut terries in half and they fitted into the mothercare covers.

I agree with sarrita with toilet training happening quicker. DS was potty trainned at 1.10 within 4 days (day only - we're not rushing the night as he is still in a cot Blush at 2.10). I had always said that I will move him out of the cot once we have another one to fill it!! Grin

Kicks here to - DH can't feel them yet but I know the LO is saying hello

WalkTheDog · 10/08/2010 12:07

jobi1 welcome :)

littlehuman planning on using resuables. Like the microfibre ones on nappylady site so that they can dry at high speed. Highland region have a nappy group so your local area might have a similar thing, some regions seem to get some type of financial support too.

sarrita oh kicks sound lovely -while they are still small and not kicking out your tummy..lol

Jobi1 · 10/08/2010 12:35

Thanks for the welcome Smile

I hate to ask this, but is anyone else stressing about weight gain? I put on loads last time from word go and only lost some of it, so I'm starting from a slightly higher point this time. I've been trying to be careful because I don't want to end up even larger, but I'm so hungry all the time! Scales friday said I put on 5lbs so far, but today they say +8 Sad which I'm hoping is a blip! It would be great to only gain maybe 21lsb but I'm not sure I'm being realistic. Wish I could stop worrying about it really.

That being said, I'm not in maternity clothes yet, although will be within the next week or 2 I think! I can't believe how quickly this pregnancy seems to be going! Halfway already, scary. Shock

crumblequeen · 10/08/2010 12:37

15weeks! Don't even have 16 week appointment until next week bah!

I used bumgenius washable nappies first time round and they were great - hardly any leaks compared to the disposables other people were using. The only problem I found is that when DS started wearing trousers rather than stretchy baby suits (maybe around 5-6mth) there were quite a lot of clothes that didn't fit well over the nappies as they were so bulky, so we stopped using them around then but I will use them again for this baby so they will probably be worth the money still.

HopingCatPlusThree · 10/08/2010 13:37

18+2 weeks

On subject of weight gain, I've always eaten what I wanted during pregnancy, never weighed myself, ended up looking massivet and then spent months losing the weight again afterwards. I just can't stop eating at the moment, so I just accept that I'll have to make a real effort one baby is here. I've always bf so maybe thats helped get rid of the weight. And I try not to stress for the first few months, as there is little time to exercise with a new baby.

Nappies - I used reusables for DD. Got money from the Council to buy them which I think is still available in our area and we used them from age 9 months onwards. I didn't dare use them until she was weaned because baby poo goes everywhere! We had mothers ease wraps and nappies, which were bit bulky under clothing and as she got older they just did not contain enough she we had lots of leaks. When we got to potty training it took ages, as she just didn't seem to register the fact that she was about to do a wee. I would encourage people to try reusables but I would not recommend the ones we used.

littlehuman · 10/08/2010 15:23

hi
mostly good comments then on reusable nappies,
i think i ll have some disposable as well for if i go out during the day i dont have to carry the dirty ones with me!.
edinburgh doesnt give money toward reusable nappies :( there is just a place you can go and buy a trial pack with 3 nappies for 12 pounds so i gonna go and have a look at that...

and YEESS we want to find the sex from day 1 we absolutly cant wait for the 20weeks scan(well i ll be 21 weeks by then). both of us havent been able to think about names without knowing the sex, at least thats good that dh and i agree on that!

lilllysa · 10/08/2010 17:18

If you arent in maternity clothes yet I really wouldnt stress over it Jobi :) . . and 5lbs is nothing . . I fluctuate by about 6lbs a day depending on what I've eaten and when I weigh myself :)

Same here Littlehuman re knowing the sex! I'm desperate to know . . already looked at names but feel like I already want to start sorting the nursery and start buying stuff :)

Loving that my hair and nails are so good at the moment . . Time to get to the hairdresser and take advantage me thinks :)

Jobi1 · 11/08/2010 09:00

Thanks lilllysa Smile

I seem to be hanging on to those 3lbs at the moment, so up 8lbs it is then. If I can hold steady at that for a little while I guess its not so bad. I should stop obsessing but its hard!

Roll on next Friday, can't wait for scan and will also have a date for babies arrival! I am so excited. (Having a c section because of problems last time - bit disappointing but I have realised that its the outcome that is most important). So, soon we will know when we get to meet our second child - its been a rough ride to get to this point but worth it now Smile

Have a good day everyone x

mamasunshine · 11/08/2010 12:26

Hello lovelies Smile
walkthedog - sorry to hear about the loss of your dog Sad How has your other dog been with it?

Welcome jobi1 - a Xmas baby maybe! I'm with you on the weight gain worry, I've put on 4lb's, but this is my 3rd baby is 3 years so I really don't need to put much on Blush I was naively hoping that I could get away with putting 16 lbs on through whole thing!! Eat when hungry etc, but just more conscious now of choosing fruit.rice cakes etc rather than a chocolate bar Wink What will be I suppose Confused I've also bought a coupl more pg exercise dvd's so need to start those ASAP!
littlehuman - ds1 was only 3lb6 at birth so we had to use disposable's for ages, then it became a habbit! But definately going to use re-usables this time, thinking Bumgenius. Seeing as though I'm littering the planet with 3 children it's the least I can do I suppose Grin!

Well my increased energy lasted oh about 2 days! I think my iron levels have dropped, 0 energy, need to sleep all the time and pale inside my eyes. So have been taking the iron water sachets for the lsat few days, just waiting to perk up a bit! I had acupuncture Monday, it was very good, she said I'll need to see her every few weeks and it should help keep my blood pressure and mentalness down!

Looks like our holiday abroad is cancelled...work just too busy, may get a chance to have a short break at centre parcs (hopefully!) Ds1's potty training going very well, most days no accidents - I'm v impressed with him Smile Looking at hiring a cleaner now, so hopefully will have some help soon as need desperately to sort our home out before this lo arrives. I've still got to wait 4 wks for nxt scan Shock I'll be 21 wks then. Seems forever away. Oh and have a definate bump now, so mainly in maternity clothes...I'm much bigger now at 17wks than I was the other 2 x Hmm Hope you're all well Smile

P.s. jobi1 - yes, important to remember it's the outcome for you and baby that really matter's and not the method! Your body is and does an AMAZING thing whichever way baby comes out, and we should all be proud of what we produce whether via Caesarean or Vaginal birth Smile

Jobi1 · 11/08/2010 14:38

Thanks mamasunshine Smile

3 in 3 years, wow!! You must have nerves of steel!

Can you recommend any pregnancy exercise dvds? I'm not sure I've got the energy, but you never know!

I'll be 21 weeks at my scan next friday, seems to be standard up here at the moment. And yes should have a date then, hopefully around the 22nd, fingers crossed!

Sorry to hear your holiday is cancelled, fingers crossed you get away somewhere.

Jo x

lilllysa · 11/08/2010 16:07

Feel terribly behind only being 16+4 :( . . I think its harder when you find out earlier . . Found out at about 3 weeks so that seems so long ago now! Though how people go to 4-5mths without knowing I'll never get :o

Shame about the holiday Mama but Centre Parcs is one of my fave quick and easy holiday places! I love picking up and going there . . Lucky were only about an hour away from the Whinfell one! Which one are you looking at going to?

Jobi1 · 11/08/2010 16:20

Its only 3 weeks difference, that's no time! I found out very early, 4 weeks to the day after my miscarriage. The early pregnancy centre tried to fob me off when I was 6 weeks, until I said to the woman "I know I'm pregnant please just give me a scan!!"

LadyBuzz · 11/08/2010 17:23

lillysa I'm 16+1 so similar to you, I do feel like I have been pregnant forever though!
Got my 16 week app tomorrow so i'm hoping to hear the HB.

I'm in mat clothes but much much smaller this time round and i've only put on about a quarter of what I did with the first 2!

jobi1 this baby will be my 3rd section, EMCS 1 ELCS. its best to be on the safe side for both of you!

mama sorry to hear your hol is cancelled, I also love centre pars

lillysa you must be relatively close to me then i'm about 40 mins from whinfell!

WalkTheDog · 11/08/2010 17:51

thanks mamasunshine, other dog was 10 years younger so they never really bonded - woud lie near each other but not cuddle up, so she has been fine with the loss. Sorry your holiday plans aren't happening.

jobi1 I've put on 6lbs, but it all went into bump and boobs so have been in mat clothes since 10 weeks! Pretty sure I've lost weight elsewhere, OH and MW def thought so. I was overweight before I started so hoping not to put on too much, but eating if I am hungry.

I don't want to know sex, OH would like to know, because I have much stronger desire not to know then no plans to find out sex. My mum and dad say they don't wnat to find out even if we decide to.

splodge77 · 11/08/2010 18:05

hi all

i'm 18 weeks now and have just started to feel a few little pops low down in my tummy which i think must be little splodge moving about (being a first timer, i've no idea how its meant to feel but this defo feels different to tummy grumbles!)

its v exciting but has also slightly given me the fear as i realize we only really have 4 months left in which to move house, try to save some money, possibly buy a car etc. etc. aaargh! Stressarama.

Do you think we need to get a car? OH and I are undecided on this one. Have never owned one before as we live in london but am wondering if all the added stuff you have to take out and about with a baby will make getting trains/buses everywhere too much of a nightmare. hmmm. would love to hear your thoughts.

developed a craving for sweets this afternoon and just worked my way through a whole pack of starburst and half a pack of fruit pastilles, now - surprise surprise - i feel sick & don't want any dinner. whoops! Don't think i'm going to make a very good role model for this ere sprog! Wink

lilllysa · 11/08/2010 19:04

Oh *Walkthedog" I missed that about your dog :( Poor you! We had a lil dog for many years and when she died we were all so gutted (think there is a pic of her and my DD on my profile) it was 2 years ago and only just felt ready for a new pet! We now have a 10week old jack russel pup named Bob :)

Hi splodge77 Not sure about a car as I live in a town MUCH smaller than London lol . . But I know I couldnt live without one but alot of that is to do with the fact that I look after my DSis DS everyday so have to pick him up from nursery. Do you think are would use it much? I know public transport here is the pits! and with a EDD in jand I guess those first few months we may have snow/sleet/typical british! :)

Hi Ladybuzz that cool we're around the same time . . have 3 real life friends exactly the same as me too! Think april must have been a slow month! Hope the 16w appointment goes well! Wish we got one here :(

Jobi1 · 12/08/2010 08:49

Sorry about your dog walkthedog, its awful to lose a pet.

splodge77, if you live somewhere with really good transport links then I don't see why you should need a car. It depends where friends, relatives and services like children's centres are, and if they're easy to get to. You only really need a buggy and one decent size change bag, that's manageable on foot or public transport. I'm not sure what tube stations are like for access though. Also in the early months a baby carrier or sling is quite nice.

I am so fed up today, went to bed early then couldn't sleep because of horrendous trapped wind and achey hips and pelvis - if I'm like this now what will I be like a bit further on?! I'm trying not to let it get me down, but I'm so tired already and coping with work and a toddler isn't easy Sad

HopingCatPlusThree · 12/08/2010 14:51

Jobi1 my recommendation for pregnancy workout DVD is Davina's Pre and Post Natal Workout. I'm not very good at doing it regularly, but when I have done it I know about it for a couple of days. I don't get tired when I'm doing it, and at times it feels too easy, but it must be doing some good if it's hurting the day after. You do have to get used to Davina commenting on all sorts, but if you like her its ok. The DVD is split into an aerobics section, a stretching section and a relaxation session so you can just choose which one you feel like doing, or do it all.

Also, I know what it's like to struggle with trapped wind. It's so uncomfortable at times, particularly when I've overeaten. I'm worried that by Christmas the only way I'll be able to digest Christmas dinner is by having turkey at breakfast, then a massive gap, veggies for lunch, another gap, then Christmas pudding for tea!

splodge77 · 12/08/2010 17:05

hey jobi1, i feel your pain on the trapped wind front - i'm getting it really badly too -in the morning i hardly look pregnant but by the evening i look about ready to pop. peppermint tea helps also i have found when i go swimming it makes me burp a lot & i feel much better afterwards!! might be because swimming sort of stretches your tummy out a bit! i know what you mean about feeling horrible after meals though - xmas dinner doesn't bear thinking about!!

we prob wont be on tube where we're hoping to move to so it will be more dealing with buses and overground trains if we have no car. my folks are in kent so its quite easy/cheap to get to them on train but my OH's family live in bristol - we normally get coach down to see them but i don't really fancy it with a baby!! I usually cycle everywhere so it's going to be a bit of a shock not being able to do that when baby comes. hmm, we will figure something out. those carry slings sound good, i will definitely invest in one!!

GinLane · 12/08/2010 17:57

hello All

I have been lurking on this thread and thought it was about time to say hello.
My nickname GinLane is a reference to my favourite painting ( by William Hogarth)and not my favourite tipple or drinking habits! I always preferred a good white wine to G'n'Ts - Oh those were the days, Just a connoisseur of Appletise at the mo'!

I am 17+6 and also due mid Jan.

slodge77 I feel your stresses over moving house and getting organised.

I've got to finish my PhD thesis whilst DH renovates the downstairs of our house. All this before the family saga that is Christmas!

Just realised I should add my details to the long list of folks on this thread...here goes, added in the right place I hope. Thanks babybunny for organising the list!:

Any news on dates yet?

verycherry82, IamaLeafontheWind , kiakaha , Charncoco ?

I know that they are just guess dates ( from what I have been reading) but thought I would be cheeky and ask!

My EDD is 15/01 but my Grandmother is taking bets on the birth being 28/12 - this is to continue a family tradition of December Birthdays.
We have birthdays on the 15th, 18th, 22nd, 24th, and 26th in our family - it just adds to the Christmas saga!
Needless to say I am hoping that little one does decided to hang around in the womb until January!

WalkTheDog · 12/08/2010 22:03

I missed that there was a stat list - I started on the Dec list as from LMP due date was 31/12, but dating scan changed that to 7/1.

Big :o today - I am going to be a auntie :), I am already an auntie to OH's neices, but SIL is due 6 weeks after me,so gonna be a real auntie. Shame we have moved away from them recently, but at least when we visit each other, we wont need to cart quite so much baby stuff.
