16+4 Today (Me like too!)

Had my boking in appt with a different midwife as mine on holiday, very impersonal. Heard the heart beat, but only for a few seconds, woukd have liked to have listened for a bit longer.

Also having to have antibiotic cream for my hand as it has got infected (Didn't see the curb coming and went flying, grazed my knee and both hands)

Mrs Frisby I was a little in awe I must say. I have been scanned by him before (this bubs and DS1 were conceived using IUI for which we went to a private clinic where the prof practices. He has done a few of my follicle scans in the past)I was blown away by how much he could see and the ease with which he could manoeuvre to get the angle he wanted, quite incredible.

mummychicken I was 39 when I had DS1 and felt fit as a flea throughout, although I did get gestational diabetes despite having a BMI of 19 pre pregnancy and no family history. It was put down to my age so I know I will have that to look forward to again. That aside, I had no issues at all, so I think it has more to do with whether you are fit and healthy pre conception than your date of birth

One last point, I know there have been a few posts about headaches which I too have had this time and I'm sure I read somewhere that it is due to high levels of progesterone.

littlehuman · 21/07/2010 12:09

arrgghh not happy
called the ultrasound dpt to know when my 20 weeks scan will be, they said i am on the waiting list?!?! is there such a thing as a waiting list for a scan???

sarrita · 21/07/2010 20:36

Headaches. Backache. Sore throat. Still feeling sick in the evenings, and nasty taste in my mouth.

A 3yr old with a temp of 39 degrees, but fit as a fiddle when he went to the Drs. I love the way they do that! Instant cure. But he is also having headaches, and I wonder if it is the bug that is going around or pregnancy that is doing it.

Don't have 20 week scan date yet but did get my maternity certificate, so will go and get my teeth checked.

Welcome all new arrivals to threat. It is nice to share. .

Off to the Highlands for the weekend on a 500mile mad dash with guests and DS - should be fun.

Have a nice weekend all.

mrsfrisby · 21/07/2010 21:12

Can anyone tell me what the 'quickening' feels like? I keep hearing it's like bubbles - what does this mean??!

mummychicken · 22/07/2010 09:54

15w + 5
It's sort of like a little flutter - with DS I didn't really feel anything till way past 20 weeks. When I did feel it, it was a definite movement rather that the "quickening" that everyone was going on about. Anything I had felt previously I had put down to wind!

Saying that - I felt a little flutter last night (wind?) but it might be abit early, the best way I can desribe it is as follows.

Have you ever had a little twitch in your eye? It's not sore but annoying as you can't do anything about it. It is kind of like that but way down low in your tummy and doesn't last as long.

FunkyMonkey1983 · 22/07/2010 11:53

littlehuman I'm waiting on my appointment for my 20 week scan too (I'm 17w + 3) but the midwife said that I probably won't get notification of the appointment until I'm about 19 weeks.

sarrita · 22/07/2010 13:00

I can feel a fullness in my womb. I think it is easier to feel if you have had a baby before. They are most active at night, so you might feel it when you go to bed - that is when I feel it.

I remember seeing the baby by running a bath, and then when I was lying in it sort of lying flat with my hips pushed up I could see the bump moving around. It was the best thing ever and happened about 17 weeks I think.

littlehuman · 22/07/2010 13:09

yesterday, at the aquanatal class i teach a girl due on the 13th of dec turned up.(that bout 2/3 weeks earlier than me),
SHE WAS HUUUUUUUUGE she looks like about 9months pg already.can you possibly have a bump that size so early? i felt very "unpregnant" compare to her lol, but relieve too!

beaufies · 22/07/2010 14:42

13w

littlehuman When I was expecting DS1 I remember going to Sainsburys when I was about 27wks and someone saying to me that I must be due any day I was huge, and this time I already have a definite 'football up the jumper' effect and am only 13 wks. I think some of it depends on your pre pregnancy shape. I'm quite skinny so there is nowhere for it to hide After DS1 I went back to my pre pregnancy size and shape without too much work so even if you do have a huge bump don't panic!

I got my NHS scan result through today and to my surprise it was low risk, 1:390. I can only assume that my blood results must have been very good as the nuchal measurement and my age alone would have made me high risk for sure. SO very pleased this, and the results from my private scan, means that I am feeling very relieved

mrsfrisby · 22/07/2010 17:09

Hurray Beaufies!! You must be feeling really happy now. Am happy for you! I still don't know whether to go to the triple test apt. I am 32 but my partner is 42 and the stand-in MW said the age of the male now plays a part. But I still don't know what probability I would act upon if any?? And if not, then why worry myself further iyswim....

readyornot2011 · 22/07/2010 21:56

My Midwife told us at the booking in appointment not to leave the 12 week scan without a 20 week appointment. The receptionist didn't like it much I told her I'd wait and she huffed and did it. Felt daft at the time but I'm glad she told us to now.

Not much help though, sorry...

littlehuman · 24/07/2010 18:11

just a funny thing i remember from b4 i was pg.
people used to say the day you get pg , you ll show straight away cos you r so tiny...
now after 17 weeks and not much of bump at all...(just jeans are getting super tight..)people are like , because you r so tiny you dont show much...
can someone agree?

mrsfrisby · 25/07/2010 14:36

My favourite moment this week was talking to a woman at work, who asked me when I would start mat leave. I said I thought December, to which she responded in a loud voice: "December? You will never make it that far. You are going to be ENORMOUS". Which made me feel great... It does seem to be a fact that pregnancy gives everyone carte blanche to comment on your size, weight etc. And this is before everyone starts touching the stomach!!!!

stenogirl · 25/07/2010 16:31

Week 18

Hey girls, anyone feeling like... ok I've survived the morning sickness, headaches, mood swings and the house is spick and span... so can I have the baby now??! I feel like Dec/Jan is aaaaages away.....

I just feel completely normal now if a little tired. I haven't felt any movement feelings. Some weird pains at bottom of stomach but I'm sure that's just the muscles getting ready.
I've been looking at pushchairs... my pal says "everyone ends up with a Maclaren in the end"... some of them look so space age!

How did you get on at your MW appointment mummychicken?
and that Sarrita you had a lovely Highland holiday inspite of all the pregnancy ailments, there's nothing like mountain air to make you ravenous and dog-tired of an evening. (I also get like that at the seaside too) Probably all that oxygen.
That's brilliant about your low risk result, beaufies, another weight off your shoulders.
Hello mrsfrisby - OMG that woman at your work was quite rude I've already had a few people touch my tummy and it is a bit weird and some girls have asked me if we're creating a nursery and I say no, they look shocked like I've said I'm gonna...I dunno... tie the baby up and flog it... I've also gotta stop telling people what names we like as people's scrunched up faces and looks of disgust are a bit off-putting.

littlehuman · 25/07/2010 18:38

hi stenogirl
i agree with you on quite a few points there.
the more you tell things to people the more you regret you ve said something.

i told a couple of friends that i still have the odd glass of wine now and again with a meal or a weak coffee..
one said i was gonna be a bad mum... well thanks!
the other one said i shoudnt drink at all or my baby is gonna be sick(which "might" be right but the same friend has never wanted to breastfed her daughter even once so...)

i think i just gonna tell people what they want to hear at the end.

deedee321 · 25/07/2010 19:58

how did heartbeat-listening go mummychicken? I'm going tomorrow, can't wait! are you still getting little kicks littlehuman? I only seem to feel them when I am sitting down quietly which is surprisingly rarely, but it does happen...just felt one there

mummychicken · 25/07/2010 20:52

16w +1
mw appt was a bit disappointing. There was no one from the team I had previously and it was all very business like and a bit impersonal. I think the mw was trying to be all efficient because there was a student with her who was only on day 2 and was struggling to find the fundus (?). Student seemed lovely though and told me my due date was Elvis Prestley's b-day!

The important thing is that LO's heartbeat is fine. I don't have HIV or syphillus and my wee and bp are fine!!

littlehuman · 26/07/2010 09:36

hi deedee yes i can still feel little kicks once a day or every 2 days but again like you its only when i lie flat in bed(either in the evening when i watch tv in bed or in the morning b4 getting up)

mummychickenhappy for u that the heartbeat is fine(an the rest is fine too) :-)

HopingCatPlusThree · 26/07/2010 12:29

I am feeling tiny kicks every day now but only in the evening when I'm sat still doing nothing. I can sit for hours at work and feel nothing, so I wonder if I only notice when I'm properly relaxed.

Got my 16 wk appt booked for tomorrow. Looking foward to hearing heartbeat again. And even though I look pg, I still want to check that I actually am!

stenogirl we have always kept baby names completely secret until lo has been born. That way you choose the name you want and people will not have a chance to screw up their faces at your choice.

heard the heartbeat, had forgotten how surreal it is to get proof there is a little person in there!
littlehuman, midwife seemed surprised I had been getting little thuds already and kind of suggested I was mistaking it!! But I know what it feels like, and that's what it is...got them between 15 and 16 weeks, how about you?

berrycravings · 26/07/2010 19:23

17+2
Spent every morning last week being sick again and have spent the weekend feeling very sorry for myself. I just want to glow, but today I am so tired again I struggled to get through the working day.

Now I have a bump am finding people like to comment on my size too, I try not to mind, but if i'm having a sensitive day then it can upset me a little (esp one lady who said I now looked bigger from behind!)

Anyone sorted or thinking about ante-natal classes yet? I am going with the NHS classes (4 sessions in the evening) and have booked on the end of December course. I thought about NCT but we do not qualify for help as we earn too much, but 200 odd pounds is still too much money for us (i want to spend that on the baby).Anyone much experience of the NHS classes?

readyornot2011 · 26/07/2010 19:52

Hi berrycravings hope you feel better

I have been looking at ante-natal classes too. Will definately go to the NHS one but its only one session and its quite soon so am worried I'll forget everything before the birth. NCT classes are £123 for 4 sessions but 3 on them are daytime during the week, which means I'll have to miss work and DH may not be able to come at all. Plus there is a good chance we may move house to a completely different area before then (DH's work)so all in all I'm not sure its worth booking them.

On the other hand I have NO IDEA what to expect, so I think I need all the help I can get!

I've heard the class before is already booked up, so really need to make a decision.

Would be interested to know what other people are planning....

Congrats to all those who can feels heir LO's , I have an anterior placenta so it may be a while yet.
