Hello Ladies
Just thought I'd pop in with my scan results. Being an official 'old' mum (I'll be 41 when baba is born) it was obviously quite scary. We booked in for a super duper scan with the famous Prof Stuart Campbell in Harley Street and wow, what a difference from a normal scan - worth every penny. Anyway, before the scan we had an age based risk of 1:64, but after the scan this was revised to 1:1124
He also checked that there was a nasal bone, that there were four, normally functioning heart chambers, no cleft palate and that all the major organs were present and correct. He was also able to tell us and show us that it's a boy - yay! I was desperate for a boy as the main reason for having this baby was so that our DS1 has a sibling and playmate, so a little brother is perfect.
One downside is that there is (might have the name wrong here) an amniotic band which has normally disappeared by 12 weeks but is still there. The Prof wants to scan again at 16 weeks to make sure it has gone. He urged me not to google it as it would 'frighten me to death' but that it was 'very unlikely' to cause a problem.
The worrying thing is that 3 days later I had my NHS scan. All the measurements that were taken were much bigger, and they didn't spot the amniotic band. As they also don't take into account the other factors ie nasal bone, heart funcion etc they will undoubtedly came back and tell me I have a high Down's risk and try and get me to have an amnio. I hadn't told them about my other scan as I didn't want to intimidate the sonographer (the prof is world famous in scanning)and wanted to see whether they would pick up the amniotic band. I will have to tell them now, assuming I get a high risk result from them, and I anticipate that there will be lots of stress and tension
But still, we go to see the prof again in a few weeks, and we are happy that the baby is normal, so overall, everything is good.
In other news the nausea is still here, but I think it may be lifting a little, and the tiredness is still debilitating but also seems to be improving a little. For those of you feeling back to normal did you just wake up one morning and feel fine, or did it come and go for a while, or gradually fade?
Sorry for the long post, just as well I'm not on here too much eh
