welcome needtosleep and MrsAA. Littlehuman and beebee, glad scans went well. And hee hee littlehuman, other husband I like it . Mind you my male dog and I have been together for 11 years and that's longer than me and OH, so maybe my dog is my first hubbie!

Went shopping for a baby pressie for my friend, was due yesterday, but as I'm not to the shops much, thought I'd get a unisex outfit - good grief what a nightmare that was, we've only one shop that sells baby clothes, and almost everything was either pink, extremely girlie or blue. Finally found one cute sleepsuit, bodysuit and bib set in white and yellow.

I have a new symptom to add to pg list. For the last few weeks I've had episodes of choking on my own saliva. It happened today again, luckily I was parked, and it was a really bad one. Had a look on the net, and have found that is acutally "normal" in pg due to increased saliva. If anyone gets it, it's suggested you look up to open airway more, and also not to panic - ha, hard to do when you think you are choking.

mummychicken · 30/06/2010 20:26

Regarding non-helpful pg advice...

When pg with DS I had really bad heartburn, got used to the "it'll have alot of hair" comments but wasn't ready for the - "oh, heartburn means a greater risk of learning difficulties" WTF!!!! Utter load of bollocks and just made me unnecessarily worried. DS is of course a small genius (although I MAY be a little biased!)

mummychicken · 30/06/2010 20:32

No superstitions here except for not telling anyone till first scan..WHICH IS TOMMORROW!!!!

If you think about the superstitions, only a few decades ago there were no scans, pg tests etc you just hoped for the best so I can understand older folk having them.

Gently remind those who butt in give advice that things have moved on since having to inject a toad with wee to test if you were pg!!

littlehuman · 30/06/2010 20:51

hi funkymonkey
i would not listen to people advise tbh
(especially if they dont have experience),
when we got married everyone was giving their own opinion and that p.. me off so i decided that for the pregnancy it was just me and dh, in our little bubble
and also my edd now on 31st of dec so not same as u anymore thought u never know when the lo decides to come out.

defo wants to know the sex , both of us way to curious lol!!!

During the aquanatal i taught tonight i met a girl(very friendly) that is due on the 30th of dec, i m so excited to know someone living near me with nearly the same edd!!!

LadyBuzz · 01/07/2010 07:43

mrsfrisby great news glad it went well.

Heartburn and learning difficulties - NEVER heard that one what a very strange thing to say!

mummychicken good luck for today.

Welcome needsleep

I won't be finding out the sex because I didn't know with the boys so a surprise for me!

deedee321 · 01/07/2010 08:47

So lovely to hear about all the scans - best of lucky today mummychicken, I have mine tomo, so massively excited!!

sarrita · 01/07/2010 09:12

Had my nuchal scan yesterday. It went fine. The nuchal sack was 1.4mm and anything over 3mm is a worry. So 1.4 is good and small.

Although expensive, it was great having a really good look at the baby. We could see her stomach and bladder! Her brain (did I say her???). All her fingers and toes. It was quite brilliant, and I got about 5 pictures. My DS enjoyed it too. Shame my DH was at work .

I have my booking scan on Friday. Good luck everyone with the scans. It is amazing. And yes we all never knew before scans - we are very luck!

Hope the sickness and tiredness is beginning to ease. Mine is still here, but seeing my little one makes it seem much better .

If you think pregnancy advice is annoying from someone who never had a baby, wait till you get parenting advice from the same sort! Infuriating.

Follow your instincts - they are usually right.

littlehuman · 01/07/2010 10:55

off to buy a pair of maternity jeans soon...
all my jeans are becoming very tiiiiiight!

for the ones that i had scans already , nobody with twins then for january?

LadyBuzz · 01/07/2010 11:35

littlehuman mummychicken sis thinks she is and my SIL thinks I am. (crosses fingers)

With this many people on the Jan thread there will surely be 1 with a multiple!

I have caved in this morning and hunted a pair of mat jeans out. Nothing fastens any more! I wanted to wait til after my scan but it is just not gonna happen I forgot how comfy they were

HopingCatPlusThree · 01/07/2010 12:19

Congrats all those who've now had scans. Hope everyone starts to feel better now. I'm not as tired and not feeling as sick. In fact I'm hardly feeling pg at all sometimes which seems odd. I have noticed tiny little movements though. I thought it was too early but mw says people who've had babies before can recognise baby movement very early. Plus if baby is on bladder or bouncing on outer wall of uterus you can feel movement early. I was 22 weeks before feeling anything with dd. Can't wait to be more certain that I'm really feeling baby move.

And yes we will find out if it's a boy or girl. We didn't find out with dd or ds, but this time I'm looking after 2 toddlers so I've less time to organise myself and it will be easier if we know. Also, DD has decided it must be a girl, so if we find out it's not we may need to spend rest of pregnancy convincing her! And I am feeling quite impatient this time, which I didn't really feel with other pgs. Good job Christmas is between now and EDD. I need to focus on something else rather than count the weeks down!

littlehuman · 01/07/2010 13:05

hey hopingcat i thought i was being paranoid when i could feel some move in my tummy when all was quite and i was lying down in bed. but it might have been my little human then! he/she is 3 inches, is that big enough to feel something?

splodge77 · 01/07/2010 13:18

ha ha no twins for us, Both boyf and I have twins in our families so there was a possibility. (i am actually rather relieved!)My friend is having twins at the end of Dec. She calls them her 'bogof babies'
Am very pleased for her because she had 3 miscarriages beforehand.

builders are currently replacing our bathroom window which is very inconvenient considering how many times a day i have to go to the loo at the mo (i work at home). I just cycled to sainsburys to use their toilet! ridiculous.

stillsurprised · 01/07/2010 13:33

stenogirl I had never heard the not wearing green thing, have a green top on at the moment. I did wear the same one with DS and it doesn't seem to have done him any harm .

funkymonkey I'd agree the parenting advice is a lot more annoying than the pregnancy advice. It does seem to be people who've never been through it who have the strongest opinions.

littlehuman I think it is possible, depends on the position of the placenta and the baby but it could be movement...

I had my scan on Tuesday, very exciting seeing the little person and everything seems to be going well. Was a bit nerve-wracking though as this baby didn't move at first and they didn't turn on the volume for the heartbeat thingy straight away so we were looking at this little still shape who didn't appear to have a heartbeat, was utterly differnt from DS who was dashing about, waving frantically and heartbeat on straight away. Huge relief when the sonographer finally flipped the switch and we got reassuring noises and then a little wave.

So glad we can finally start telling people!

mummychicken · 01/07/2010 19:58

Hi all, thanks for all the best wishes - only one little baby wiggling about I am weirdly relived but a little disappointed at the same time. HOWEVER, monumentally over the moon that there was heart beat etc and everything was were it wsmeant to be.

sarrita Thanks for that info (mine was 1.6mm). With DS they did the calculation there and then and told you the risk, they've changed it to include the blood test which is a bit annoying for an old bird like me as it is another week of worry.

littlehuman · 01/07/2010 20:18

splodge that s so funny!dunno what u look like but imagining u going to the shop for a pee its hilarious.
no nice neighbours around to let you use yours?that s what i ve done when i changed my bathroom window.

mummychicken · 01/07/2010 21:49

I thought this was rather sweet.

I took DH and DS (2.8) to scan today

Mummy "we're going to the hospital to see if there is a baby in Mummy's tummy"

DS, after long thoughtful pause "or a kangaroo"

NeedToSleepZZZ · 01/07/2010 22:04

mummychicken, you might feel as if you have a kangaroo in there when he/she starts kicking!

Must admit I'm a little jealous of everyone having their scans, have to wait till next week because of the waiting list and the fact I didn't realise I was pregnant until 9 weeks (now 12, I think). Glad everyone's doing okay though, I can't wait to see lo so I can relax a bit.

Very embarrassing thing happened today- I was in the local park and suddenly had to go for a wee... gave my handbag to my mum and popped into some bushes (really was that desperate, I have never ever done this before!) only to discover that the rest of park could see me on the other side so ended up running home whilst holding on, only just made it. Luckily I've been doing my pelvic floors, think this is a warning for me to be prepared later on!

mamasunshine · 02/07/2010 09:32

Hello lovely, chatty ladies! Congrats for everyone who's had their scan's and seen their bouncing beans

Welcome and congrats beebee, Needtosleep and mrsAA
needtosleep - thats so funny I nearly had to pull over and wee on the motorway the other week don't know how I made it home it time!!
funkymonkey - glad you're staying The advice gets worse once baby is here...used to drive me mad, then I learnt to smile, nod and ignore!!
ladybuzz - ds2 had a lovely bday thanks, just a few family and a great big coc cake!
hopingcat - will you be able to apply for maternity allowance? i may have to if I'm not going to be paid maternity from employer.
walkthedog - ds1 was only 3lb6 born! We have an attic full of 5lb and under clothes and they're TINY!
mummychicken - 'learning difficulties'?? What nonsense..and what a thing to say Kangaroo!! I hope not what a cute things dc's say!!

My scan is on Monday - at last!! Still no booking appointment though and 12 weeks now Will sort it for next week hopefully. Is anyone else still waiting for their 1st scan? I've loved the weather, have had paddling pool out every day! Still haven't told family/work about pg, may tell my parents after scan depending where they are? Found out the sex with ds's and really don't mind if ds or dd but still haven't decieded what to do? Will probably find out knowing me, although a suprise at the end is supposed to be nice! I am hoping it's not me who'll be having twins [confusd] Work has been pretty demanding the last week or so, and we've been housebound for last 10 days as ds1 has got chicken pox...still. Can't wait to get out with them, hard to entertain now!

Hope all is well with you all?

crumblequeen · 02/07/2010 12:41

Hi all - sorry I have not been on for a while - been following but not really had much to say, getting a bit impatient waiting for scan now - haven't got a date yet but I am only 10.5 weeks. Congratulations to everyone having scans - so glad they are all good news! And I hope the sickness is tailing off now for those who were sick.

Had booking on Sunday and have a very impressive bruise where the inept student messed up taking blood - most people have been too polite to ask what it is from thankfully as its much too warm to wear long sleeves to hide it!

I think I really want to find out the sex (didnt for DS - but now have 8 boxes of boys clothes to dispose of if its a girl!) but I also loved having a surprise for everyone at the birth so I am wondering if we can find out and manage to convince everyone that we didnt so I dont get asked all the time (would tell on here of course!)

Reb01 · 02/07/2010 19:45

Hi ladies,

Sadly we had some bad news at our 12 week scan which was about 10 days ago. Our baby is poorly with severe megacystis. We've been monitoring the situation and its progrssively getting worse. We'll have one last check up but its now really at the point whereby irreversible damage will be one to the little ones kidneys, and eventually lungs. So, very sadly and with much regret we will have to end our pregnancy.

So I'll be leaving you now. I sincerely wish you all the best of luck, I've been on this forum most days and have enjoyed keeping up with all your posts.

All the best.

mamasunshine · 02/07/2010 20:00

Oh reb01 - I am so sorry to hear your sad news What a very confusing, difficult time, I can't begin to imagine what you're going through. I hope you and dh have good support around you, please be kind to yourselves and I wish you the very best for the future x [big hugs]

sarrita · 02/07/2010 20:04

Dear Reb01

That is terrible news. I am so very sorry. Tough times ahead; I know as I lost my last one at 10.5 weeks.

Sending all the good vibes I can, and wishing you and yours a little time and space to grieve, and then try and enjoy the sunshine, and get on with getting pregnant again when you are ready.

Sarrita.

LadyBuzz · 02/07/2010 20:27

reb01 I'm so sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself x
